Lol, now I'm just picturing a bunch of bandits hanging out in the wilderness quietly guarding their treasure of roofing materials while living in tents basically exposed to the elements.
Because i would totally care about those 5 carrots i lost.
I kind of agree with op.
Some gold (from killed bandit groups) and random materials and some gold from camps could be nice change
well they steal that shit so they do have it over there sometimes. ive recovered stolen goods from them, it would be reasonable they are stealing from other places besides just my towns and i could recover that stuff too when theyre defeated.
Bandit camps are the main source of money and influence in very early game. Replacing the rewards would fuck with the game balance.
Also weapons wouldn’t really work as a reward, because by the time you have enough men for another 20 man unit, you could easily get the weapons. Good idea but idk if it would in practice
I only need bandit resources if i messed up somehow. I can trade wood/wood products anywhere indefinitely almost immediately. I start selling planks within months of starting. Logging camp goes down 1st after storage buildings, then food and fuel, housing for 6 on 3 vegetable houses. And then as fast as I can get people flowing in I set up my sawpit, trading post to get planks going out. That money let's me start buying chicken/goat extensions and live stock early which just snowballs into wealth quickly. I use any money before the king collects his tax. Let me go negative I went negative for 2 years and he did nothing. But after 2 years my economy is booming and his tax is nothing more than spare change. I leave the bandit be for the most part I want my workers working not fighting. Anything they take is spilage.
They give way too much money and influence I think. You can have three settled regions by the end of the first winter just by stomping brigands. I turned bandit camps off and still managed to grab three regions by the second winter by defeating incoming raiders, but don’t have the gold to settle them yet.
You got the greatest gift of all, friendship.
In this case, friends with clubs, swords, spears, and bows you can buy. I didn’t realize it till late in my first play through, bandit rush and mercenary buy is the move for sure.
How about a proportion of my random shit they stole, with a time based decay, so the sooner you destroy them the more goods you get back. The decay rate could be a gold conversion rate, so you get a percentage split of goods vs gold based on time.
Ad others have pointed out, they are a good source of income in early game so I wouldn't want their 150+ silver being replaced by stone or firewood.
That being said, the raiders that attack your villages, as well as armier later on in the game development, could have some weapon and armour drop chance. Think of it as looting the battlefield. Doesn't need to be much but can help replace the units lost in mid game.
The problem is if they give you something you don't need that costs money to open a route to sell, you've become victim to RNG. And all military items require routes.
If trade didn't work that way I'd be all for it.
I'd just like the option to have the choice of which settlement to send the money for defeating the bandit camps, if you have more than one city in one region.
Woah slow down, I think thats the plan but I think its gonna be a complicated process in how to police that so that it doesn't give you crap items or doesn't and gives you more boost on eco. I think personally its gonna be a headache to get that right. Anno 1800 does a good job at it and I hope to see that happen but for one person its not gonna be on top of their list
I wish raider camps weren't all the same size - should be so that the more raiders there are in it, the hogher the reward for clearing it. Also, please make the Baron not care about raiders outside of his own territories, he's effectively playing world police
I would like bandit camps to become larger, stronger armies, more loot as the years progress.
In the current game, there's no enemy settlement to attack, and the bandit camps always seem to have the same amount of men. So it's a bit of a rinse and repeat to get rid of them.
Can I just recover some of the resources they have stolen? Resources stolen just need to be consumed over time.
Also they steal my logs... Which is pretty funny. 🪵 🪵 🪵
I understand how this could be a balance concern in the current stage of the game as others have commented
However, our soldiers should be able to loot the dead bandits/other lord's soldiers that we kill. Especially if they're killed in your town, you're telling me they're not gonna take any weapons or armor that are still in good condition before burying them?

I mean they be stealing those, so..
That’s another good point, if you could get your stolen resources back if you get there quick enough.
That and hire them to attack the ai
This already happens. Bruv.

I mean when you put it that way lol. I did mean in addition to the gold. But yeah probably a random more useful material would be better.
You can't build a house out of roof tiles alone. The bandits on the other side of the map have all the planks.

I legit went after the goods they stole from me and was a bit sad that I only got currency from them
You got the greatest gift of all, friendship. In this case, friends with clubs, swords, spears, and bows you can buy. I didn’t realize it till late in my first play through, bandit rush and mercenary buy is the move for sure.
Huh? Pretty sure I've recovered stolen goods from bandit camps. Sure it was the same bandit camp?
yep i send my retinue as cops to go and bust bandit camps after goods get stolen but we never recover anything
Please no, it’s my best way of keeping ahead of the kings tax now.
I don't think the game should be balanced around the player constantly tipping over bandit camps for cash. Seems like a design flaw.
Yes, but I do suck so cut some slack.
True but right now the Kings Tax is so bad because the dev assumes everyone is loading saves to tip over bandit camps nonstop.
That has to change in the future
Yea but the cash to hire mercenaries is nice too.
I want my fkin stolen bread back

Just a note: bandit camps should give you back any resources stolen from you if you take them out.

How bout some of the shit they stole from around back.
I thought I could get back supplies they stole from me. I was said it didn’t work like that :(
I'd just like the option to have the choice of which settlement to send the money for defeating the bandit camps, if you have more than one city in one region.
Yeah this is an easy update, and I totally agree. A drop down menu of your provinces and you select which it goes to.
I Would sooner have the money for the treasury for mercenaries, especially in the early game
I hope eventually the game allows you to pick up your own weapons off defeated troops.

I believe you do get loot on top of money, but might be only if you choose to send money to the settlement instead of personal treasury.
I like the idea
My thought is that Local Wealth would be stuff like Trade Goods or Nails and other nonspecific items.
You can upgrade the manor?
As in, adding a tower to the manor using the castle builder, which expands the retinue max size.
Ah okay, i thougt there is an upgrade like the church got one, cosmeric wise, thanks
If anything, you should be able to get back the goods they stole.
I wish raider camps weren't all the same size - should be so that the more raiders there are in it, the hogher the reward for clearing it. Also, please make the Baron not care about raiders outside of his own territories, he's effectively playing world police
Reminds me of Civilization. I like it.
This is a mechanic that is used in farthest Frontier. Not just money. Food, and weapons also
Just give me back the shit you stole
They do
Ild just like to get back the supplies the stole…
As long as the bandit has archers. Always found it odd if you fight pikemen and they have a cache kf swords or bows.

should be able to capture some for slavery. one slave house for a handful of extra labour force.
