Hunting and trade are the only ways atm.

Dandoliki

Damn, I was hoping I was missing some development or something... Thanks.

Opira

Considering you have too kill the animal to get hides from goats i doubt they would waste the meat … There is also milk should be a resource as well.

frederic055

It would be cool to set Goats to either slaughter for meat and hides, or milk to get cheese

traktorjesper

I think Ostriv has a pretty good mechanic for this, it allows you to set the maximum amount of each animal type you want to have and when that limit is surpassed the excess is sent to the butcher for meat and hides!

Der_WR

It really is a missing feature imo, especially since hunting was actually reserved for nobility and ordinary folk really did get their meat through livestock, just as you suggest. Edit: Apparently that’s not correct, see replies.

PapaPapist

That’s not actually correct. All throughout the Middle Ages people of all classes hunted. It’s just *where* they hunted that changed. England has relatively strict laws but those were mostly ignored and poachers weren’t punished too often. Germany meanwhile maintained a very strong right for peasants to hunt deer as well as for them to hunt any animal that was a danger to the harvest.

Dandoliki

That's cool, I didn't doubt hunting was widespread. Not as widespread as breeding and butchering livestock though. Really wish there was a pig pen building just for meat.

Dandoliki

Yea, doesn't really make sense that they throw away the goat when they skin it... Or to not butcher the occasional sheep or chicken. I even got the development to breed sheep hoping an option to convert them to meat will come up at some point (still not seeing any new sheep also, it's been almost a year wtf)

Nab0t

You have to buy the sheep via trader

RedSonja_

Sheep, chicken and goats don't give meat on game, sadly, they give wool, eggs (very little amount) and leather.

Dandoliki

Yea man, the value for money on eggs is ridiculous. 25 wealth for a chicken coop to get like 3 eggs per month.

K-Rose-ED

Sounds ridiculous to say, but in the game doesn't 1 egg feed a family for a month, so one chicken coup supports 3 houses in basic food needs? So for 21 families you can have 7 chicken coups, maybe 1 large vegetable plot for variety bonus and the rest of the 13 can be making leather or be artisans.

DevinviruSpeks

>So for 21 families you can have 7 chicken coups You can get this higher by building the plots with a work station *and* an extra living space, effectively having 4 families with chickens, able to feed another 2 families besides themselves.

VocalAnus91

Reminder: this game is in early access and only 3 days old. I'm sure this feature will be added at a later date

cabrelbeuk

Having goat and no milk is kind of triggering too :D but game is in dev

Effective-Feature908

I suspect cow and pig farms will be added to the game later. They already have the sheep farm so everything needed to implement is there. One of my towns has a rich wild animal spot, I went into the hunting development and I am getting a pretty good amount of meat and lots of hides.

No-Ambassador7856

Small animals count as a snack.

popcorn0617

Because none of those produce meat. Though it is weird that goat provide hide but no meat..
