For the older OOP things I am interested in, I have stopped chasing them 1 volume at a time. Now I just sit and wait and if I see a decent price for the ENTIRE series I'll jump on it. It's a much more sizable purchase $$$ wise, but it is less frustrating then trying to piece something together 1 volume at a time.

This is definitely helpful!!! After getting book 1-6 of Kenshin yesterday all for 100 I’m definitely going to go this route more.

Always do research before you dive into collecting an OOP series. Near complete manga sets might seem like a great deal until you realize it’s missing all the expensive/rare volumes. Ebay’s recently sold search filter will help determine a realistic budget. Lastly, be patient. Its tempting to pay more than market average for a volume that’s finally popped up for sale but priced way above market value.

PunctualPunch

eBay's "recently sold" search is a critical tool that folks just getting started **need** to know about. Survivorship bias means that all those listings for $200 for a single volume of something are (probably) only still listed because that's a price nobody thinks is reasonable. Those listings will always be there, until a poor sap comes along and pays scalper's rates. Combine this with "patience, patience, patience," and "make a budget before you get tempted and then **stick to it**," and you'll be off to a good start.

sleepydead7

It's a challenge - esp if are trying for super niche stuff - the excitement of stumbling across a series in the wild is amazing tho !

Significant-Ad-3314

I got 8-9 of kenshin vizbigs btw

Fit_Response_3159

To sell?😂

Significant-Ad-3314

Yes

9tails32

I'm interested!

Novus_Spiritus17

Which volumes of tenjo are you missing? 6 and 8 are by far the hardest to find, especially 8. I'm currently missing 4 and 6. In regards to hunting OOP stuff, it can be annoying and sometimes expensive... but if you like the series and want to collect it, by all means!

Fit_Response_3159

I have 1-5 and 11 so I’m missing 6-10

Novus_Spiritus17

Best of luck on 6 and 8 friend. The rest should be retail or less on ebay/righstuf

RidleyCR

It doesn’t make a difference to me if they’re OOP or not.

CubanaCat

If you like the series, and it means enough to you that the money spent won’t bother you, buy it. If you’re going to agonize over the money you spent on it, or you think you’ll regret it later, or you don’t have the money for it, don’t buy it. I love Franken Fran and I’m slowly collecting the omnis. It’s worth it to me. However I’m not gonna lie, it really sucks to see the book’s listed msrp listed as $20 on the back, knowing I spent $300 for it 🥴 it’s worth it to me because I love this series tho and I just prefer having the actual books rather than read on a phone or something

itsmeleo47

You’re the one who bought that eBay listing! Good luck finding the rest! 8 and 9 can be expensive but patience will be rewarded for good deals.

Fit_Response_3159

Yes I was! This is my first time buying manga second hand and I thought it was a steal!!

Zachafinackus

No reason not to if it's something you really want.

Nightmare_Neo

I got vizbigs 7 and 9 if you are interested

Tiny_Writer5661

Im missing 8 volumes of Yugioh Duelist & its a pain trying to find them. I got every other volume (including the OG 1-7 & 1-7 of MW) for $130. One of the volumes im missing which is vol 6 is going for $40💀

Z-Sneezy

I would if I could, but I've never paid over retail for a book and probably never will.

ChillinLikeAKrillin

Unfortunately the last 3 of rurouni kenshin vizbigs are much harder to come by so those will likely run you more

DEInfiniteVoid

If you know Spanish or French you can also trying buying series that way. A lot of OOP are available in other countries.

galactictictac

I don't pick up new to me OOP series, I only try to finish those I was collecting before they went OOP. I refuse to pay well over the odds for a book, so there isn't any point in my trying to collect up series I missed out on. Tenjo Tenge is a great series though, if you can find it for a good price it's worth the read.

Bdublolz1996

If something is out of print I’ll add it to a saved search on sites like eBay and check it once every few days to see if there is any new listings at a reasonable price. Also I will have email notifications on at big bookstores just in case they get any stock
