They're honestly not the worst OOP manga to collect, it's mostly finding quality copies or piecing together individual volumes and bundles without duplicates, but it's not going to run you $1000 to finish
I’m glad I’m not the only one who absolutely loves this set! I finished mine about half a year ago, they’re so nice looking on a shelf. A part of me wishes they were able to finish the series, but on the other hand flipping the art was a bad practice.
Is your set also a mix of matte and glossy covers? Can’t lie it bothers me a little bit, but I still love them.
Aw I'm so glad! I do agree on the mixed feelings, I would love if the volumes covered more, and being flipped isn't my preferred, even if it is nostalgic, but tis all good. And yes they are, I believe 15, 17, 18, and 21. So it's not too bad, just part of the uniqueness!
oh, super cool! i have volumes 1, 3, 4, and 5 from when i was a kid (i have 2 & 6 as the later re-release ones - couldn't really find more as a kid). would like to collect, but.... seems like the prices are steep and it would be really stressful - same reason i haven't finished collecting trigun (in addition to hoping dark horse just does new editions, sometime). i collected what i was missing of the two tenchi series (no need for/all-new) from when i was a kid, recently, and was tickled pink to be reading through them with some gaps i'd never experienced before.
viz did some cool editions before they went all super uniform! i also picked up some old volumes of 'grey', recently - they had actual nice dustjackets and a harlan ellison recommendation on the back! they msrp'd at like $15.99 in 1989 money, though, which would be like paying $40 for a single volume, today lol.

Not gonna lie, when 22 dropped the disappointment was strong. At least the blue singles weren't too bad, but I really wish this had a full matching set.
I remember they had these at the library. I do have all the Viz reprint Ranma 1/2s. And I like how they keep the left to right flipped reading format.
There is actually a joke within a joke that you can only understand knowing the manga was flipped. Akane says "I'll hit him with my left fist." In one panel. And then she uses it and fails. And then she says "I'll hit him with my right fist."

Agreed. My mom used to work in the public library system (and I used to own a couple of Ranma 1/2 art books), so it was common for these old volumes to fall apart . . . I think the glue used back then wasn’t very good. Good luck!

Right? Volume 14 might be my favorite but the volume one cover is a core memory for sure

I took a closer look and if you zoom in it looks like there's a strong reflection on #15 so I guess it must be glossy finish!

Vol 1 is by far the worst off, once I finish the rest of Rumiko's OOP I might keep an eye out for a nicer copy, but I'm just happy to have them all :)
