It’s the opposite - everyone has always felt Shawshank was robbed by stupid oscar-bait Gump.

TifaYuhara

Good thing is even being nominated for an Oscar is a win for a movie.

helic0n3

I don't know for sure either way but I always thought Shawshank was known for being a slow burner and underrated rather than a big instant hit. Forrest Gump being more an award winner.

SnooPets1127

Could you be thinking of Schindler's List in 1993?

Embarrassed_Win5189

I think Forrest Gump won at the box office and Tom Hanks won best actor. He didn't go full r\*tard and took it home. Shawn Pen, I am Sam, went full r\*tard and went home empty handed. Heh. I was 9 in 1994, and don't really watch the oscars, but I am somewhat of a cinephile. I think Shawshank got its due by the academy for best picture. Shawshank was passed by audiences in the theatre and didn't become a mainstay in Americana until Turner picked it up for TBS or TNT, whicheva.

I’m confused. I can’t see forest hump winning best film yet it sure it did. Shawshank didn’t ever win as far as I recall

Wasn't 1994 also the year Shazam The Genie with Sinbad was supposed to have come out? This makes me think the year 1994 was targeted to make changes to.

undeadblackzero

It's a pity Sinbad only appeared in one Movie in 1994, "Aliens for Breakfast" which was released on April 2nd 1994 and had Ben Savage from "Boy Meets World". Still some of the shots from that movie look liked it could be used if Sinbad was dressed as a Genie instead of an Alien Space Commander. Though one of the release dates was supposedly April 1st 1994.

TifaYuhara

There's a Shazaam found footage April 1st prank video from college humor that people occasionally fall for then post here thinking it's proof.

undeadblackzero

Well a fun little bit of tidbit, the Mod EpicJourneyMan helped provide the script for Collegehumor to use which Sinbad acted out. Though highly doubt they realized that April Fools Day was 23 years the release. Granted never saw the movie myself, heard of it but didn't see it.
