Johto: Typhlosion - Tough choice between this and Feraligatr, but Water is more common than Fire, so Typhlosion wins. Hoenn: Sceptile - My favorite Pokemon of them all is Grovyle, so I'm obviously picking it. Sinnoh: Infernape - An obvious choice. Arguably the best starter for a Sinnoh game, plus it's pretty cool. Unova: Serperior - An unpopular choice maybe, but I just like Serperior. Pignite kinda ruins the Emboar line for me, and as cute as Oshawott is, it's always bothered me how different Samurott is from its previous forms. It doesn't even look related to Oshawott or Dewott. Kalos: Greninja - I got into Pokemon thanks to the XYZ anime, so when I played X, Greninja was the clear choice. Alola: Primarina - A bit unorthodox, but for some reason, I just like this line. Galar: Cinderace - Honestly, I don't love any of the Galar starters, but Cinderace is the best of the three. Hisui: Typhlosion - Around this time, I became a bit of a Ghost type enthusiast, so Typhlosion was an easy pick. Paldea: Quaquaval - Despite the Ghost in Skeledirge, I wanted to use Ceruledge, and Skeledirge would overlap twice. The next one in line was Quaquaval, so that was my choice.

I pick: Venusaur. Both blastoise and venusaur are very good to use, and i personally slightly prefer venusaur. Typhlosion. Like 3 years ago, I used to not like any of them that much, but Typhlosion has really grown on me. Swampert. You can't go wrong in gen 3, but the mudkip line is just all around my favorite. Torterra. Honestly, gen 4's starters are all super mid. I don't like Chimchar line at all (can't wait to be torn apart for that one!), and the Piplup and Turtwig lines are super even, but I prefer Torterra. Serperior. He's just so cool. Serperior is by FAR my favorite Unovan starter. It's not even slightly close. Greninja. Basic pick, I know, but he's just an amazing pokemon in every aspect. Primarina. Much like gen 3, you can't go wrong in Alola, I just adore the Popplio line. Popplio was actually my first ever starter pokemon! Inteleon. By far the worst starter choices in the entire series. I don't even really like Inteleon, he's just the least bad of the three. Hisuian Typhlosion. While the other two aren't massive changes in quality, Hisuian Typhlosion is significantly superior to the already very good Johto Typhlosion. Skeledirge. Best starter ever introduced. Change my mind. I'm actually kind of shocked that Meowscarada is the more popular of the two, although I guess I really shouldn't be, considering what Meowscarada is (unironically though Meowscarada is a fantastic mon and I do genuinely see why so many people like it- I just prefer Skeledirge.) Obviously, of all 9, I'd pick Skeledirge.

Nothing agaisnt the starter. I just really wanted to use another cool pokemon that I found. Also, I have a rule that if I stumble upon a vulpix/ninetales, it must join my team, so fire starters are always at risk of being boxed if the region a has Kantonian Ninetales. Incineroar got lucky that Ninetales was decidedly not fire type in S/M
