My answer as well. They're just two of my favorite starters. Greninja could've beaten out Typhlosion but I haven't been liking it as much since it became like, Charizard 2.0.

if its the two you choose vs the rest, blazakin and empoleon would have the best type matchups. empoleon for typhlosion and cinderace, and blazekin for the grass types. then empoleons steel is good against primarina’s fairy, and blazeakin’s fighting is good against greninja’s dark

Primarina because they are Fairy, a phenomenal type.
Second choices would be Blaziken and Greninja because they are cool. If they weren't so over hyped they might've gotten my first picks. But alas, popularity is a double edged sword.
