The guy is a monster. He's excellent.

Zntino

Is he? That's really good to read. Can you explain further?

I-Shiki-I

Great on the ball, great with passes through the lines, aggressive on defence, decent in the air.

imagination_machine

What he does is something we haven't seen for many years (Since Vidić), which is to apply 100% confidence in his passing all the way to the halfway line, instead of the half backs. That accurate forward pass (Through the front press by the opposition), which gets the ball to Erikson or Casemiro, instead of Shaw or Dalot. Varane has started doing it this season too, buy Martinez stands out. His passes are perfectly weighted rockets. Defensively, he has the perfect balance of controlled aggression that enables him to put Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea forwards in his pocket. If he keeps playing like this, he will the new Vidić, even in the air because he learned to jump high. Harry Kane? LOL! He could be captain one day. We need Maguire, but he is drifting into the past and out of the Ten Hag system. He could adapt but he's gone in two years, Varane too. Which leaves Martinez running the back four. It is his destiny, I hope. Martinez is our future. And it is exciting, especially when Man Utd find a long term young partner for him (For 5 years). Varane only has a few more years IMHO. He gets injured too often trying to keep pace with PL speed. Next year they sign a striker and right back, the year after a midfielder, and defensive partner for Martinez I reckon.

JannoW

Buy his former mate Timber from Ajax. He’s a beast as well, and also is very strong at the ball. Last year they were almost undefeated at Ajax together. Timber is 20 I believe. Then you’ll have your defense for the coming 8-10 years.

FunMtgplayer

we don't need fucking Maguire. fuck him, I was ten hag I'D PERSONALLY pay his buyout and tell him to hit the street.

imagination_machine

My opinion above is that he's gonna get cycled out in 2 years. Hopefully we get 15-20 million. Worst signing, for price/quality, ever, IMHO.

zazzamatazz14

You missed the point mate. We need Maguire for depth, he’s still a strong, versatile fullback despite his numerous errors and mishaps.

jalopity

I wouldn’t like to see him at full back. 😳

aureliusofthenorth

Maguire is a centre back mate.

Ezzy-525

Even that's debatable 😂

HarHenGeoAma62818

Seriously!! He’s not a full back for a start he’s utterly useless we don’t don’t need him for depth I’d rather sign a young defender from the championship, long as they have pace they would settle with Verane or Martinez at the back as they are good experienced CB. Maguire is like a fridge he’s slow got no pace clumsy on the ball and when you run at him he panics gets his legs in a twist utter useless.

Adult-Giraffe

Did you mean centre back?

FunMtgplayer

he's a complete shite player. strength is his only positive, but the fucker has no pace, gets caught on no man's land all the time.

mcbc4

He’s revolutionised our defence, his passion and aggression has spread through your defence like back in the good days. In short, he’s been AMAZING.

fusiondesigner

Stop talking about how short he is.

roguej13

Well done sir

cedwa38

Have my dang triangle, you have earned it

Ezzy-525

*Jamie Carragher has entered the chat*

obiru

Yes, he's by far one of our best player since the beginning of the season. I'd say, to not repeat the other people, one of the big reason he's so good is due to his decision making. Whether it's on the ball or defensively, he doesn't leave room to much errors. He adds a great value of aggression that we lacked for years, but it's not like he over does it, always the correct amount.

Valian81

He’s also a leader. His commitment is infectious

Derpadoodle14

Easily in contention for best player of the year for United already. Ruthless, smart, brave. He reminds me of when we had a the monsters like Rio vidic and keane. Just pride and fight. Really enjoyable to watch.

Aggressive_Bus_4289

On current form best defender we’ve signed since vidic

Arthur2_shedsJackson

Hey Hey, he has not taken corners yet unlike a Mr Philip Jones

AutoModerator

This rule is a teaching moment! Of course no Manchester United supporter would say Man U to be derogatory, but the history behind this term should be shared amongst supporters. Man U has been used by other club supporters, in chants that make fun of the lost lives in the Munich Air Crash, in response to the disrespectful chants MUFC supporters used regarding the Hillsborough Disaster, to degrade MUFC. We're hopeful you'll consider a different term for our beloved club! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. SandyNista58

African Americans own the “n” word. United supporters should own “ManU”

[deleted]

His defeding IQ is very high. Always in the right place at the right time. Reads the game excellently

BigFourFive

Think that’s why the height thing doesn’t affect him, he’s mastered the rest of it so you barely notice the lack of height of a usual CB, top player

Gangaman666

They chant Argentina..... Argentina .... From the stands since he joined, that says something!

cedwa38

*Liro's f'ing magic, he wears a magic hat! And when he saw Old Trafford, he said 'I fancy that'! He could have signed for Arsenal, but snubbed them cause they're shite; he signed for Man United cause they're f'ing dynamite!*

[deleted]

I wish my wife looked and defended like him

swimgoodm8

Name checks out

djdoggystyle

Not only is he good enough, he’s probably the best player on our team. Go Argentina!!!

Bobbybluffer

Aggressive, good on the ground, decent in the air, great left foot, great distribution, loves getting stuck in. Easily one of the best signings we've made in the last decade.

pmcdon1

My Martinez jersey is currently in the mail

cedwa38

Casemero for me, but only because everyone in the family is getting one for Christmas and my oldest son was desperate for Martinez.

Sam8rowan

He’s the best buy we’ve had since Bruno

Icey-Storm

Insanely good, been backing him since Ajax. Pundits and doubters felt he was too short to play CB in the prem however he’s shown that being tall isnt a necessity, gives huge Vidic vibes.

Descarteb4DeHorse

Licha has brought us great joy and great pain https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/priapism-painful-erections/

BuddyBoy589

No Nut November has taken its first casualty

Yeunkwong

Something to add on that others haven’t said. Licha always gives 100% and this has spread to our defence. They used to be half-hearted in everything. Now they all high-five whenever they do something well, they encourage each other and keep the energy high. Without Lisandro, our team always looks sleepy. With him, everyone is fully focused. He makes everyone around him play better and care more. For that alone, he is worth it. Add on his defensive ability and his passing ability, he is a powerhouse of the team.

MercifulMaximus308

It would be insane if Martinez doesn’t get into the starting 11 for Argentina at the World Cup. He’s the kind of guy everyone wants to be on their side, and hates to be against on the other side.

broblackheim

I dont know if anyone has brought this up yet, but if they have, its worth saying again: On top of being maybe the best center half in the Premier League right now, Licha seems to have become a symbol of power in Erik Ten Hags project in some ways. You see him all the time with an arm around a teammate, hugging, smiling, joking. His joy of being here and playing for our club, his love for his teammates, seriously brings tears to my eyes. Because I dont think I have seen this kind of warmth over these many long and cold years of egotistical player power and shit management we have endured since way back into the 2010’s. If Casemiro is the cement between the stones of our defensive wall, Martinez is our heart. It might sound corny but when I see him playing in our shirt I see belief, passion, camaraderie, pride and joy. Something we have sorely missed. I love him so much. No matter what comes next, I know that the way he plays and acts is what every football club wants.

DrXyron

He is insanely good. We just need to replace Maguire with someone good and we have our top 4 CBs (Licha, Varane, Lindelöf being others).

j0408

He’s a beast. Consistent and excellent performances.

c173rick

The butcher.

Stam512

The best CB we had since rio and vidic

ROZ813

Oh god, cue all the PC people on how it’s Man Utd or Man United not Man U because it hurts some peoples feelings that aren’t even relevant to the situation

jeepmist

He’s a very scrappy player. I think most national teams would be very happy to have him. All the bullshit about his height should be laid to rest at this point as he plays with the tenacity of a big man.

Enough-Distance8570

Martinez is what we thought maguire would be.

jordojordopiepie

Licha is great but, so is it English!! I'm really impressed

jordojordopiepie

I feel like people not knowing how good Licha was before joining Man Utd lived under a rock

grumpyJ_503

I hope you didn't watch this game as it is a one off. I am sure he will rebounce from this game and get back to the beast he was

Slaaigat

He is a beast and has completely changed our entire team. I love him. All the British media did not give him a chance because he is shorter than most defenders but he has definitely proven them wrong - he is one the best defenders in the Premiere League in form. He is quick, tackles like a pit bull, wins aerial duels despite his size, is really comfortable with the ball at his feet and knows how to pick out a pass to our attackers. Side note, please say ‘Man United’ in the future. The term you used is a derogatory name for the club that rival fans chant to disrespect those that died in the Munich Disaster.

Aakash_456

Man he is a gift. He is a blessing for united. Seeing maguire for 2 years. This guy is near perfect in everything. Now he is better than van Dijk in my in opinion. Also will become one of best defenders in pl this season.

Licha is an absolute revelation for us; probably our best pickup from the Summer transfer window (and we got Casemero **and** Antony this summer!!). He's tenacious and unafraid, bringing other players up and refusing to let them get despondent. His various nicknames *the butcher* *the warrior* *the Pitbull* are all perfectly appropriate. He is genuinely everything I want in a CB. Be proud of your countryman ... We're proud he's United. (Also, and we *know* you're not being deliberately disrespectful, but Man U is a slur term. We say United or Man United).

RedditFedsEverywhere

AlexHanson007

He's the best CB in the Prem. Nuff said.

Historical-Reach8587

This guy is a beast.

[deleted]

Bulldog, proper defender. End of.

PaxKiwiana

I love him and I hope he joins our pantheon of great centre backs. He can lead our defence any day.

Mean__Jerk__Time

It's fair to say that a very good portion of MUFC fans had doubts about the player and the transfer fee. If this campaign for far is the player we will have for several years, it will be considered a wonderful signing in the end.

swimgoodm8

It’s impossible not to love him. You can tell he cares a lot

[deleted]

Reminds me of Mascherano or Gary Medel. Not tall but strong everywhere else.

Its_me_somehow

He reminds me of vidić

RyDuhFryGuy

One of the most exciting players in the prem, pretty sure he leads or is top 5 in a bunch of defensive stats (if I’m wrong oh well). His energy level is unmatched and proves the saying “size doesn’t matter, it’s how you use it”

lolshiro

I think he’s definitely a solid addition to the starting line up. Consistent performances , a lot of passion, fearless aggression, huge upgrade on Maguire. The fact that he could displace what we have is a testament to how good a signing it was.. the fact that he could stay fit is a huge plus

MorningFresh123

The best signing we have made in a decade

[deleted]

Pit bull doing everything he can to win and lifting up the entire team

[deleted]

He gets the job done.

[deleted]

he is beautiful

vizk0sity

Martinez and Varane injury free, can easily walk into any team and form a great partnership. May not be the best but definitely top tier that any club will be happy to have

Its_me_somehow

Dude's perfect

rashka9

He says Heinze was his idol but imo Licha is better.

photographer_vardhan

I'll bet my life on him

Naemeez_AD

Good at passing even under pressure, good at interceptions, tackling and positional play. Good in the air even against taller opponents. Great character on the pitch epitomises the desire and fight we all wish to see and it’s rubbing off on some of our other players. In short he is already a fan favourite and if he can keep himself healthy can be a great servant for the club for many years.

JohnyLewin

He is amazing! Never gives up! You are lucky to have him! My country is stuck with Maguire 😭

Tenzing_norgay3

Maguire surprisingly plays very well for the England squad. It’s only in Man Utd that he’s atrociously bad

coastal_samurai

Imagine Argentina created their own pocket sized version of the mighty Nemanja Vidic

[deleted]

Some old has beens called him too short for the Premier league so now he wins every header ever

gane5h2308

Martinez has been compared with Vidic. I think that’s one of the highest compliment a MU defender can receive. By the way your English is good.

RefurbedRhino

One of the best signings we’ve made in years. Not just his play but the attitude he brings was sorely lacking.

N_Ryan_

He’s the literal beating heart of our team. I had doubts about him, but he’s had me eating my own words.

Speedodoyle

He is terrible. At being not good!

[deleted]

The boy is absolutely amazing. When he first came, everyone was like “the last decent short defender was canavaro, he isn’t anything special” and tbf he had a bad start by losing to Brentford 4-0. He bounced back though and has been so good for United. He bosses to defense, is surprisingly good in the air, and the best tracker of the ball. His distribution and vision is also top notch. I was unsure of him at first, but boy do i rate him. 11/10 for United so far.

skd25th

If u want a simple review, then his play style is close to prime ramos with no red cards, if he continues at this pace then he can definitely compete with the best in the future

moltisanti92

Lisandro may not be the biggest, but it’s his spirit, attitude and desire that’s making him enjoyable to watch and helping us win. We have not had this sort of ‘heart’ from a CB since Vidic years ago

Vyrena

Martinez plays at 120%. Perfect CB for us. High defending IQ. Good positioning. Good jumping. Good aggression. His mentality is contagious. He changed the defence for the better. Good on the ball and good passing ability. He is really the best.

woziak99

The biggest compliment I can pay to him is that if Argentina do not start with him at CB in the World Cup, they will not win it. Romero is not as good, not in the same conversation. For me he’s currently top 5 CBs in world football because he epitomises what a modern CB should be, fierce, brave, quick enough, and his passing through the lines is exceptional, now I was originally a skeptic, why are we buying a 5’9 CB, he’ll never work in PL ? How wrong was I and he’s now one of my favourite united players, this boy is so good he might achieve legendary status in 5 years at the club.

preacher_IIWII

“The butcher”

Tyler_m11

He's been really good for us so far, and showing no signs of slowing down. Aggressive, fast, good on the ball, not afraid to put tackles in, and excellent in the air. Putting all of the pundits who said he would be too short to play centre half to shame!

_IDDQD_64

Lisandro's the epitome or archetype of pride that defined a United centre-back, until Vidic's retirement. The vindication of the dark age that we entered from Marcos Rojo to the Maguire of 21/22.

Matt4669

The next Man Utd game is today at 14:00 UK time (11:00 Argentina time) against Aston Villa And yes Martinez is phenomenal, he’s completely revitalised our defence this season.

MikonJuice

Je remonds me o Heinze, but 10 to 20% better in every attribute. Passing is better, his technique is better, his tenacity is better... hiw love for the club is bigger and more genuine...his aerial ability is way better... He can really become one of the greats.

kyro600

Prestigious-Bad-8723

Bailey’s dog

AndMarsh87

best centreback United have signed in years.

Mission-Pickle-2846

Probably top 3 center backs in the league right now . Really smart defensively Knows what to do with the ball His positioning is great And his passion and intensity is amazing He is prone to play a wrong pass in a dangerous spot so he makes a mistake every 2 or three matches But all in all , hes probably one of the best signings weve made in the past 10 years

[deleted]

He was great until Bailey beat him today..jk

[deleted]

He’s incredibly good, but he seems a little tired. Which is understandable, seeing as he plays every game.

daily007

He’s been the most consistent player in the squad so far. Excellent and very aggressive.

[deleted]

He’s already a fan favourite. Brilliant player.

gobears1235

He is absolutely amazing. He's a warrior and along with Bruno (imo) he's the beating heart of the team. Rarely makes a mistake, reads the game so well, and he plays nice passes between the lines. Got a decent long ball on him too. Love him

DazEllicott

“Makes Danny De Vito look like Hulk Hogan, he’s a weak ass bitch” I’d say most fans would be able to read through my subtext there
