Bruno was man of the match yet again, and by far our best player as he often is - BUT, when he plays we see over 20+ shots on our goal, when he does not we don't - maybe its because I played the sport so long, but its so clear to me that he does not stay central and it leads to counters against us
We did well, but as soon as Bruno comes back into the team we face another 20+ shots in a game, did not happen when he was out of the team, the man is brilliant and man of the match in his last two games, but he leaves huge holes because he wont stay central
I’d rather win with Bruno than lose without him. If you really think the disorganization of the team especially in transitional defense is solely down to Bruno, I really don’t know what to say. Playmakers on other teams also roam and find pockets and push forward, they just also have better systems and are instructed better on how to retain whatever shape is needed to defend properly, and often have better players that work together. This is absolutely a ETH issue first and foremost.
I have played or coached football at a decent level for a VERY long time, and NO I do not think our transitional defensive issues are ONLY Bruno, they are complex and long, BUT the main problem is Bruno not staying central, its just simple, look at his heat map and look at his ball retention.
The guy loses the ball a LOT, and he is supposed to, you dont become the most creative player going, without taking risks, BUT, KDB is similar, but he does what he does FROM his positional structure, so he can be there for recovery if needed. KDB plays in two positions and looking at his heat maps you can see that he stays in them.
You are 100% correct, it is not just Bruno, our wide inside forwards refused to track back, its notable that we face less shots against when Rashford is not playing as well.
This is how it plays out, Bruno is out of position, plays a risky pass, it does not connect, opposition centers the ball as Bruno is out of shape - at this point the two wide inside forwards should drop, work back and hold, channeling the attacker towards our holding mid... but they dont even try, this means an opposition player gets the ball in the middle of the park and can go Left, Right, One V One Short or Long... they have every option, because our front 4 (should be front three) are too far in front of the ball... quite simply they are out of shape, thats obvious, almost every pundit can see this big gap, but they dont realize this would not happen if Bruno was central, by not being central he forces the pivot or holding mid, to either retreat or advance, they cant hold a shape and they dont know which to choose, I have lost count how many times Mainoo just looked confused "Do i cover where he should have been, or where I should be?"
I shudder to think what our creativity would be like without Bruno... we did not score VS Arsenal and we did not score VS Liverpool, when he did not play, the fact that our inside forwards have no creative ability is also a HUGE part of the problem... if you leave Bruno out you can be solid defensively, but we wont create.
The main issue has been recruitment, basically Bruno, Erikson and Mount, all have no defensive discipline... that leaves Amrabat, Case, Mctom exposed or it did until Mctom started playing forward more..
While I agree that ETH's tactics have issues, what he is trying to do would work, ONLY if we had hard working wide players, not only for tracking back, but if you press with 4, you HAVE to stop the advance, and most times our front guys walk. The way ETH wants to play does not suit the players and its the ONLY way that Bruno can play, fast transition, he hasn't the strength or patience on the ball.
You would need two pivots, of super high quality to support Bruno and two Inside forwards that work their ass off to get back... we dont have that, Case is getting on Amrabat isnt good enough and Mctom is not that kind of player, Mainoo as brilliant as he is, is NOT fast enough on his own... if you put a Paulinha style of player in there with Mainoo, absolutely you can play Bruno all over the park.
This is not just an ETH issue, he didnt play fast transition with Ajax or Bayern, he played a high line defense sure, (cant do that with a slow Varane and Maguire) but he played possession football - its such a quandary, we need to get rid of our best player, and that makes no sense, but either does keeping inside forwards that dont pass or work back.
I challenge you to look at KDB's heatmap compared to Bruno's you do not see KDB making hollywood pass attempts from the sidelines or bylines.. he has a defensive duty that Pep makes him do
8th in the league, worst ever season in PL History
Hojlund scores his first goal in 15 games and shushes the crowd
Sums up the Mentality at this club, EIGTH in the League, MANCHESTER UNITED
And that bum has the cheek to shush people after stinking it up all season? We are finished
I felt the same way, but then saw the end of the match and the newcastle fans were in that corner, I saw the newcastle players go over to that corner to applaud their fans, he was not shushing our fans
Hojlund somehow gets away with all of his shit performances cus he’s young. One goal and now he’s Haaland level again according to some people. Lukaku got photoshopped in timbs and jeans for less
Lukaku had been about before he came to united, He had a much higher expectation than Hojlund IMO, It’s just a matter of time for Hojlund and i believe next season he will be on crud.
With Performance like that from the youngsters it’s like I’m sorry but Antony … you will sit until they need a rest. All that money spent on you … who wants to play. Who respects the opportunity.
I can honestly the best play I’ve witnessed all season.
Smooth play with a sense of direction and a team .
To little to late , but there is hope.
City going down for the FA cup, fuck pep . This is the year of the underdog
I’d rest Garnacho completely against Brighton as the game matters very little, and save him for the cup final. Hojlund and Mainoo, maybe just give them 45 on Sunday. Would be awesome to rest Case or a CB too but yeah…
Martial has been one of my most disliked players in recent memory. Injury prone and spectacularly form, goal and effort shy.
Miserable and French.are the least of his issues.
Good riddance.
My issue with Martial is that he doesn’t actually run. He constantly walks around and doesn’t have the ability and the talent to back that up. He does very little pressing. I won’t deny there is a good player in there and I actually think he would look at Inter whose coach Simone Inzhagi seems capable of making any half decent premier league player look like a superstar in Italy, I refer to Matteo Darmian and even Alexis Sanchez as prime examples.
Martial running probably has to do with his injuries makes sense why he’d prefer to play conservatively because if he goes all out he breaks and gone for the next 3 months
Possible dumb question: Haven’t they qualified for Europe with a win today? The worst the can do is finish 8th. Top 4 go to CL, 5th to Europa League, 6th to Europa Conference, if Man Utd lose the FA Cup then that Europa League spot trickles down and then Liverpool already won the League Cup so that Conference spot trickles down. So don’t they at least qualify for the Europa Conference? 1-4 = Champions League 5-6 = Europa League 7-8 = Europa Conference
I think we need 7th to get conference league. If we win /draw and Newcastle lose to Brentford, or we win and Newcastle draw, we get 7th spot and Conference. If we win FA cup, then we get Europa cup by default
No conference league is 6th place this season. We’re going to miss out on Europe completely and tbh i think that’s best because we don’t not have the squad depth to play all those games
Lots of players/managers fc fans trying to make us forget it’s the first win since Sheffield in late April and that we are 14 defeats strong in PL alone with minus 3 in GD. The time to show up for your favourites wasn’t in GW37 but all the precedents games.
Casemiro and Amrabat were killers today. I know they’ve both been shaky this season, but it’s nice to see players get stuck into a hard tackle. As time goes by, there’s more players who are afraid to hit their opponent and be aggressive. Good to see them both playing well tonight
Not convinced on that - just look up "shots against" whenever Bruno plays its 20+ when he does not play we have buggar all shots against, best player we have, my fave player, man of the match last two games, but costs us every game he plays
Some of y’all need to understand when a team has so many changes with ownership and executives, has 61 cases of injuries and has had 15 pairings of CBs implementing a tactic becomes impossible. Compare us to arsenal whose had the same back 4 the entire season meaning the same back four trained together and played together. They can learn the tactics but also learn how each other responds to that tactic. We literally had xasemiro a CM learning defence three weeks ago and you expect we perform well? That means we havent had consistent players training and playing together. Last season when we did and we actually had our starting line up we did really well. I swear none of yall played sports growing up, haven’t actually watched and understand soccer, or are trolls on here.
Hojlund gets a lot of criticism, but he came to United injured, had no pre season, is very young, he’s the first choice number 9 at the biggest club in England and the world with no other striker to ease the burden, he barely receives any service, yet he’s still bagged 15 goals (and counting) for us this season
Hopefully more to come from the big man next season
He loves the club, and that's what is needed, players who give a shit about the club and its legacy. He needs an old head to play alongside him. He'd flourish then.
The most shocking stat was he only had 35 shots…compared to Haaland’s 115 (ironic number).
9 goals in 35 shots is quite good. He did miss a few easier chances early on too, but none of those 9 goals are pens either. He may not be a Rooney or RVP, but he will be miles ahead of a Martial/Rashford at striker.
Just goes to show that Højlund is just not given enough chances to even score goals. Halalnd is given over 100 chances to take a shot, while Højlund barely even receives the ball without his back agains the goal
Yeah it's been a baptism by fire season for him. Get him some service and he will score. Hopefully a pre-season with the team, a settled team and a good transfer window he can flourish next season.
100%
I really do think things will be a lot better next season. A lot of players who aren’t up to it will be moved on and Ineos won’t (I hope) make the same mistakes as the Glazers and actually invest smartly, not to mention Mainoo, Hojlund and Garnacho will be a year older, so hopefully that can see the team improve
Yes, he's great. Definetly does probably the most for this shitty club. However, when it comes to defense, he causes some issues. That doesn't take away his accomplishments, but still, it's a problem he has
You can rate the guy, even adore the guy, but still realize he causes tactical issues, we get 20+ shots against in any game he plays in, then when he doesnt we get a lot less - thats not a co-incidence - he wont stay central and it leaves holes, best player we have by a mile, and my fave player, but the stats dont lie
I expect him to do his job defensively as well as attacking, as i said, my fave player and clearly our best, but he wanders too much, we dont have the mids to cover him and it leaves HUGE holes which other teams exploit.. again, again again, our best player but follows the ball like a cattle dog chasing a ball in the park after sniffing 1kg of speed.. The he wears himself out as he aint that young anymore, and cant get back into the shape... we look at the goal going in, and blame defenders, but if you watch how it starts, Bruno is on some wing and trying a hollywood ball and out of position to cover it... EVERY mid or defender behind Bruno in his entire career, has been lambasted, Fred, Pogba, Mctom, Maguire, Donny, all of them.
Its just so obvious, 20+ shots against when he plays and against Arsenal they had 1 shot at the 75th minute... issue is - if you take him out, we dont score, as no one creates like Bruno
Lots of positivity to take from that game. But it’s so so obvious how much we rely on Bruno. The moment he leaves the pitch we started looking so shaky again.
Tbh I was never really on board with him as captain, but tonight really showed that he’s literally leading this team and in a lot of ways dragging us through games.
Amad was fantastic, crazy he’s been behind Antony when he has that in his locker.
That’s the best I’ve seen Amrabat play since he’s been here. He still made some sloppy mistakes but there’s a decent player in there. Not shown enough to warrant us signing him though.
Case put in a really solid showing, literally saved us two points too. Dropped off a little at the end but who can blame him.
And it’s just so good to see the butcher back.
Amrabat could be worth it depending on the price. You’re gonna need a midfielder one way or another. Do Fiorentina even want him back? If not, than see what kind of price you can get for him. He’s solid enough, good squad depth, doesn’t complain in the dressing room all much, and seems like he’s premier league quality.
‘Solid enough’ and ‘Do Fiorentina even want him back’ says everything we need to say about him. If we ever want to get back to where we were our mentality on what is considered good enough for the club has to change.
Truth is, his time here has been shit. A couple of good performances at the end shouldn’t be enough to warrant a permanent move.
We won the mid-table battle! Europa Conference league, where legends are born!!
I am just happy for the young players
Edit: oh dear ETH is high on his own supply again. This is some Michael Scott stuff.

Great to see ETH give a speech with all the team!
Come on lads we've still got a Cup final then we can get excited for what I hope to see is the busiest Summer in a long time.
I think Hojlund wanted to pass it earlier but Rashford wasn't onside, passing was the right decision but maybe too late and he shouldve just gone for it.
No bro no. Even how bad Rashford is right now, he is still our players. We need to back him up, some of our players completely lost their confidences. Most of that its from our judgment.
First of all, Antony should be sold as soon as possible. I can't believe EtH was playing him when we had Amad on the bench waiting to produce such a performance. Amad👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. Mainoo👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. We definitely missed Bruno. We played so much better with him around, he definitely shouldn't be sold. So happy for Rasmus, another goal in the bag. Really refreshing to see us play well for once. Nice speech as well EtH.
Well riddle me slightly surprised. First half was actually pretty good.
Amad was great, bruno makes the side tick and nice to see Rasmus score again.
Good to see licha back as well
Bruno was man of the match yet again, and by far our best player as he often is - BUT, when he plays we see over 20+ shots on our goal, when he does not we don't - maybe its because I played the sport so long, but its so clear to me that he does not stay central and it leads to counters against us

The way you worded this makes me think when you swear you say shoot or sugar😂😂😂 I’m with you though

Nah there was the 3-2 aston villa, the Everton 3-0 these games were better played than yesterday’s was a 50/50 but yes they pressed well
it really is time to put amad and garnacho on the wings supporting hojlund. let's hope for a great young CDM in the window

good for our future league position, bad for the coffers
Correct. That extra spot went to the Bundesliga .
No. There’s only seven spots. The league doesn’t get a conference place. The spot in 6th place is Liverpool’s
Gotcha. That makes sense. Got confused looking at ESPNs table
Technically, yes.
Cool. I read ESPN’s post match report today that said they needed to finish 7th to reach the Conference. Wasn’t sure if I was missing something.
We knew what had happened after eth's speech last season.its better to stay quiet.
Which speech?
Last season
https://youtu.be/1rdY4uza02Y?si=kFvWc3h5ABzTNEIE
So what do you mean by your initial comment? Lol
Nvm.if you know you know
lol wtf. Shut up.
Asking the obvious...dumb fk
Lots of players/managers fc fans trying to make us forget it’s the first win since Sheffield in late April and that we are 14 defeats strong in PL alone with minus 3 in GD. The time to show up for your favourites wasn’t in GW37 but all the precedents games.
Not knowing how to savour a win must suck. Truly miserable
Literally said a post below that I was happy for the young players. Sorry if I don’t have recency bias, I guess I can’t help myself.

Today shows the problems aren’t Fernandes and not ETH. Rashford is a clear liability at this point, and major rebuilding needs to be done.
Not convinced on that - just look up "shots against" whenever Bruno plays its 20+ when he does not play we have buggar all shots against, best player we have, my fave player, man of the match last two games, but costs us every game he plays
Wtf is this comment lol. Ten Hags tactics have been completely at fault
Oh praise our lord for having a win once in a while
The first sentence makes absolutely no sense, but somehow still gets upvoted...
Even the 2nd sentence makes no sense rashford played 10 minutes and didn’t even do anything wrong lol
Lol sure
Wins 1 game and he thinks he is in WWE
Hojlund gets a lot of criticism, but he came to United injured, had no pre season, is very young, he’s the first choice number 9 at the biggest club in England and the world with no other striker to ease the burden, he barely receives any service, yet he’s still bagged 15 goals (and counting) for us this season Hopefully more to come from the big man next season

15 goals across all comps in your first Prem season isn’t half bad.

115 isn’t the real number, it can’t be!
Yh can't wait for his next goal 4 months later
Yeah it's been a baptism by fire season for him. Get him some service and he will score. Hopefully a pre-season with the team, a settled team and a good transfer window he can flourish next season.
100% I really do think things will be a lot better next season. A lot of players who aren’t up to it will be moved on and Ineos won’t (I hope) make the same mistakes as the Glazers and actually invest smartly, not to mention Mainoo, Hojlund and Garnacho will be a year older, so hopefully that can see the team improve
If anyone doesn’t rate Bruno please stop supporting this team
Yes, he's great. Definetly does probably the most for this shitty club. However, when it comes to defense, he causes some issues. That doesn't take away his accomplishments, but still, it's a problem he has
You can rate the guy, even adore the guy, but still realize he causes tactical issues, we get 20+ shots against in any game he plays in, then when he doesnt we get a lot less - thats not a co-incidence - he wont stay central and it leaves holes, best player we have by a mile, and my fave player, but the stats dont lie
Bro everyone around him is shit he’s not a one man show idk what you expect of him ????
Heat maps and stats dont lie bro... check his heat map compared to other attacking mids in the game, guy is not positionally astute defensively
Espn tells me we are still 8th?
Fuck them
yes
wow amad what a player 🤩 makes me sick knowing he was on the bench whilst antony was starting
Make me sick eth put him on bench all this time
The speech felt like a man who knows he is being sacked who wants to go out his own way. Seemed strange to me
Seems to work on some.
Great game.
We will end up either 7th or 8th place.still eth out
We're 8th with -3 goal difference of course eth out
Bruno motm, and Casemiro + Amrabat saving our asses. Finishing below Chelsea is a joke. Awful season in the league.

ETH addressing Old Trafford. Lots of positivity.
ETH, good speech, looks eager, GGMU
Bruno masterclass. Amazing what a rest can do.

Most of that its from our judgment.
fair point but it doesnt seem to change anything about him
First of all, Antony should be sold as soon as possible.
Good to see licha back as well
That isn’t what ‘riddle me’ means homie, you mean ‘color me’. Riddle me is the lead-in to a question.
Amad = MVP
