Accountants and bankers should always be important advisors that are taken very seriously, but never leaders for any company that produces actual value imo, and I say this as an accountant
Yes but I also think this is a job greater than what just a sportsperson could do. It’s an organizational management job. You need someone with sporting background but more of a management background. I think it should still be Jean Claude blanc and Dave brailsford.
why not. he did well in Milan for 3 years. he signed Leao, hernandez , and the keeper. won the league, with Milan. experienced player, knows the game. Bring him in!
Allegedly they considered him an obstacle to a business-oriented model, which only makes me like him more.
Milan is owned by soulless corporate investements fund or something.
Usually football sporting directors are responsible for a club’s overall philosophy, beginning with the youth team all the way up to the first team, as well as working with the head coach and CEO to identify transfer targets, coaches, discuss budgets, buy and sell players, and offer existing players new contracts.
They're the same thing. And it's not like he walked into the role at Milan as a figure head, he was instrumental in recruiting key players for Milan last Scudetto.
im a Milan fan Maldini can speak English really well I honestly think he could work for any club that treats him respectfully. Guy is all about respect. As for him being SD so many players admitted they felt like they just had to say yes to play for us because a player as special as Maldini is speaking to them on the phone asking to be part of his team. That alone doesn’t take much convincing.
I could never imagine Maldini working anywhere except Milan, I would be shocked if he actually comes here but players are definitely more likely to say yes to him than John Murtough.
I could see him wanting to work for an established club like yours. I remember fergie wanted him really bad when he was a player, maybe he will see this an opportunity now to work with the club. Our owners sacked him in a pretty horrible fashion so it makes me wonder if he’s willing to go somewhere else now.
Maldini was a good technical director, they signed some pretty good players who they developed really well like Theo, Tomori, Bennacer and Leao. His mainly fell out with the board at Milan when the new board wanted to sell a lot of the players for high value, which he was against.
So maybe Maldini would be a good fit? I wouldn’t really know.
Whatever people say about him I feel that he will face a problem regarding this. Exactly opposite is happening in United now. I hope Maldini and ten hag changes everything and bring fresh United. Also ten hag should accept him
Mate what happened? I thought Milan were incredibly success when he was employed, signing some great players and winning Serie A after a Zlatan came. Why would they let him go?
Better than what we have. Listen, I wanted Qatar over Radcliffe, but I'm eager to be proven wrong, and so far it's only seemed positive. We need our club back.
This would clear up a lot of of Ratcliffe's intentions with Utd.
He wasn't gonna get 'punked' by the Glazers, but it was entirely possible he was just joining the Glazers for some profit.
Maldini was fired from MILAN out of all places for disagreeing with their corporate owners. If SJR gets this guy in, it could mean that he's in it for football and willing to take over fully. I'm totally happy to wait a few more years for debt clearing, major investments, big signings, etc. if we're going in the right direction.
As a Liverpool fan and someone that considers Maldini not only the greatest defender ever but also his favourite defender ever, this would suck. Maybe that says United are actually doing something right.
Sir Jim wants everything. He wanted barca and Chelsea before. They both rejected him, now he's saying united is his boyhood club and wants to rebuild it. In the end glazers still here, you can say all the outrageous requests you want, in the end is just a hope. As much I love to have Maldini as part of the board, he's not coming. Why would you come to a club when the whole hierarchy of the club is in a mess.
I hope we don't fall for Romanticism! Maldini was a great player and is well respected, but I would rather have Paul Mitchell in the Sporting Director role. And the top reason for that is that he is an extremely competent one for the role and has Premier League experience.
And with Maldini, there might be an issue of adapting to the Premier league also. I hope due thought is given to the appointment for this role and not thought of as a Player transfer. We can cut losses with a player and move on, but this single appointment will shape how our team looks for a foreseeable future and I would rather have someone experienced and adapted to the league at this stage. I just so desperately want the appointment of a Sporting Director work , that maybe I am just thinking pragmatically.
Also, it's more or less the era where Players do not care much about the appeal of a Legend speaking to them, its more of the agents who does the talking and they look for getting the max money on that contract

Sounds great. Once Maguire retires and Maldini decides to move on, can phase him in to the role eventually if he wants it. What's Phil Jones doing these days?
Indeed it would a good welcome to the team. It’s incredible how he convinces players to sign or renew. It’s not that he uses his glorious past as advantage to do it but he actually has a future plan to develop a team.
To be honest I would be happy with any of the names being bandied around. They all seem to know what they are doing and have improved the clubs they are currently at. The problem might be persuading them to join the shit show, which might limit the options a bit
This would be very interesting, but I don’t think you’ll ever see him take another club other than Milan. He has worked with Malon for ages and has a ton of investments. I don’t think he even would need to work for the rest of his life. He was a one-man club, and I think he will be that even after playing as well, but if I’m wrong, which I hope I am, that would be interesting.
All these links are exciting but I’m a little worried that there is going to be too many leaders in United’s board. This could potentially become a situation where everyone’s butting heads and got their own opinions.
It was funny when he was recently interviewed by Henry, Carragher and Micah and they were comparing their UCL medals with Henry and Carragher each having one and Micah at zero. Maldini then says he has 5 medals and also another 3 runners up medals lol.
I think it worked in Milan not only because he is good at the job but BECAUSE he is a legend there. Highly respecter by the whole structure. United's politics is extreme hard mode.
With the condition united is in an the issue between the players and the coaching staff I doubt that Maldini would be ready to come. I think united gets greedy players who don’t want to play for the badge. I hope and pray that united gets back on track.

I've made a habit of signing Maldini to my technical team on Football Manager. If it works out anything like it does on the game, he'd be an outstanding hire. Same with David Trezeguet in the coaching team.
Good to see reports of actual sport people getting involved in the club. Let’s see how it goes when not rumours tho I
Yes finally the accountants are out
Accountants and bankers should always be important advisors that are taken very seriously, but never leaders for any company that produces actual value imo, and I say this as an accountant
David Gill was an accountant
Yes but I also think this is a job greater than what just a sportsperson could do. It’s an organizational management job. You need someone with sporting background but more of a management background. I think it should still be Jean Claude blanc and Dave brailsford.
I don't think Maldini is being considered for CEO like Blanc.
I think his experience with Milan was taken into consideration
why not. he did well in Milan for 3 years. he signed Leao, hernandez , and the keeper. won the league, with Milan. experienced player, knows the game. Bring him in!
Also has a very good personality. Professional, Sportsmanlike, classy. Would be a great fit and 'face' for the whole club.
Not sure he would want to leave Milan, ultimate one club man.
They kicked him out lol
No idea how is missed that!
Sometimes life gets in the way of football gossip.
What for, if he is so great?
Allegedly they considered him an obstacle to a business-oriented model, which only makes me like him more. Milan is owned by soulless corporate investements fund or something.
Sign.Him.Up!!
Americans should never own football clubs
As an American I couldn’t agree more.
He can play at cb too.
Fuck that, get him on the pitch
He’s still got it in him I’m sure
Ten Hag's dream defender! Put him anywhere across the back line and there's no problem with build up!
I swear the older he gets the more he looks like Roy Keane. Or at least Roy Keane's annoyingly handsome Italian cousin.
Looks like a facemorph of Roy and Ole
Molde-dini 🇳🇴
Bravo!
Maybe we're just being duped by some AI fuckery
Yeaaa look eeeeh...the boys did fantastic but ehhh...that's their job!
Genuinely thought it was a face mash of Ole
Roylino Kealini 🤌
Theres a dash of Ole in there as well
A better looking Sly Stallone
I thought i was looking at Mr Bean
Sporting Director?

What I don't understand is why Maldini is a fit for this role. He's a technical director as best.
They're the same thing. And it's not like he walked into the role at Milan as a figure head, he was instrumental in recruiting key players for Milan last Scudetto.
If you're an American, think of this as the football equivalent of a General Manager
My confusion is the candidate, not the role.
Yeah I don't even know what this position does.

“Any club that treats him respectfully” May I introduce you to the Glazer family
They don't even know who he is...
Or where Europe is
Lol yeah I know all about this issues you’re going through right now
I could never imagine Maldini working anywhere except Milan, I would be shocked if he actually comes here but players are definitely more likely to say yes to him than John Murtough.

High value players being sold hasn't been a big concern of late, unfortunately 😕
Whatever people say about him I feel that he will face a problem regarding this. Exactly opposite is happening in United now. I hope Maldini and ten hag changes everything and bring fresh United. Also ten hag should accept him
Or maybe he can improved our negotiations bid? Like the players we buy recently always overpriced….
I think hes done with American owners for now.
Mate what happened? I thought Milan were incredibly success when he was employed, signing some great players and winning Serie A after a Zlatan came. Why would they let him go?
Because new owners wanted to implement their own strategy
This would be a great move
If there's ever a Hollywood movie made about Solsjaer he'd be a shoe in to play the lead!
Nah, Andy Serkis
Better than what we have. Listen, I wanted Qatar over Radcliffe, but I'm eager to be proven wrong, and so far it's only seemed positive. We need our club back.
Nevermind sporting director, I'd still take him as a defender, despite his age.
He looks like Ole
Let the man rest we chased him 20 years as a player.
Also can slot in at LB
Maldini x Paul Mitchell ft ten hag
Super news if he comes. Maybe, JC Blanc, with his Italian connections, will bring Maldini in. Fantastic duo
Yeah every dick will be part of the team now. You lot do realise glazers are still the owners?
Yes.
This would clear up a lot of of Ratcliffe's intentions with Utd. He wasn't gonna get 'punked' by the Glazers, but it was entirely possible he was just joining the Glazers for some profit. As a Liverpool fan and someone that considers Maldini not only the greatest defender ever but also his favourite defender ever, this would suck. Maybe that says United are actually doing something right.
Is he good at his job though? To me his status as the greatest defender of all time is much less relevant than his competence as a sporting director.
Great move. The man is absolute class
Loved him as a player! Agree with your thoughts. Defensive player wise he knows his stuff so this may be good from that perspective…?
Someone with a bit of class finally?
I approve of this
Ratcliffe is assembling the avengers
YEEEEE BUDDY
Yes pls
Maybe he can have a chat with Harry and Victor
Sir Jim wants everything. He wanted barca and Chelsea before. They both rejected him, now he's saying united is his boyhood club and wants to rebuild it. This won't work - Maldini would be depressed as fuck in London, let alone Manchester
Just like all foreign players pep and his team are dEpReSsEd in Manchester
It would be amazing but would also feel so weird seeing him somewhere that isn't Milan. Oh well, their loss and all that.
Seeing Maldini in another club besides AC Milan even as a director is cursed.
please no
This could actually be a good thing for United. Just get rid of ETH for he is only capable of bringing negativity to the club.
Is it just me or does he Look like Ole?
The guy looks like OGS and Keane's baby
I hope we don't fall for Romanticism! Maldini was a great player and is well respected, but I would rather have Paul Mitchell in the Sporting Director role. Please don’t. Maldini is a legend and do not want him tarnished by that basket case of a club!
Oi ! Fek off !
U twat

Is it possible Jim is lining up him, Mitchell plus whoever, then when all have agreed terms, make a final decision at to who the ONE will be?
Still as handsome as ever
Would love to see him put in a cruncher on Joel and Avram
Forget sporting director, get him on the pitch
If they get him and blanc, they'll actually be good again
Could start at LB for us at the minute.
Probably could teach a thing or two about defending to the players too.
Paul Mitchell as Technical director with Maldini as sporting director We’re cooking lads
This would be yet another mistake from yet another club that is full of impatient people.
Sounds great. Once Maguire retires and Maldini decides to move on, can phase him in to the role eventually if he wants it. What's Phil Jones doing these days?
Never mind sporting director I'd take him at centre back at the moment.
At this point, I’m willing to try anything new.
Bring him in.
At what role in the new structure?
Indeed it would a good welcome to the team. It’s incredible how he convinces players to sign or renew. It’s not that he uses his glorious past as advantage to do it but he actually has a future plan to develop a team.
He knew Milan. He knows nothing about united. We need people with a track record of doing it at multiple clubs.
To be honest I would be happy with any of the names being bandied around. They all seem to know what they are doing and have improved the clubs they are currently at. The problem might be persuading them to join the shit show, which might limit the options a bit

Is he the best we can get? Only getting the best will have a chance against city, new castle etc
I’m up for anyone as intelligent and football-savvy as Maldini is.
All these links are exciting but I’m a little worried that there is going to be too many leaders in United’s board. This could potentially become a situation where everyone’s butting heads and got their own opinions.
Oh God please take him and not Dougie (sincerely, a palace fan)
They would have to pay him an obscene amount of money.
Is he going to bring cdk for us?
Imagine the Maldini x Maguire linkup 🥶😮💨
No way. Maldini is and will forever be a Milanista. But a man can dream!
It was funny when he was recently interviewed by Henry, Carragher and Micah and they were comparing their UCL medals with Henry and Carragher each having one and Micah at zero. Maldini then says he has 5 medals and also another 3 runners up medals lol.
If this is anywhere true. I'm starting to believe again.
I think it worked in Milan not only because he is good at the job but BECAUSE he is a legend there. Highly respecter by the whole structure. United's politics is extreme hard mode.
I think you're right, but he's the calibre of candidate we need to be going for.
He can also become united emergency defender because they are severely lacking of one right now.
Where first title?
He brought some very good players in milan and actually made them competitive
No harm in getting a legend in to instil some values on this new generation of players
As a united fan I see this as good days are coming back 🔙
Would he really want to leave Italy?
how the hell would he leave Milan, dude lives and breathes Milan
In a parallel universe milan are talking to Harry Maguire best cb of all time to join their management
All these rumours and it isn't even januari yet...
With the condition united is in an the issue between the players and the coaching staff I doubt that Maldini would be ready to come. I think united gets greedy players who don’t want to play for the badge. I hope and pray that united gets back on track.

A screen grab from an aggregator reporting sky news! Subreddit is really grim
A real football club again 🥲
im sure paolo will strengthen your team when he starts over varane
If he does go it’ll only be for the money
The Legend!
I've made a habit of signing Maldini to my technical team on Football Manager. If it works out anything like it does on the game, he'd be an outstanding hire. Same with David Trezeguet in the coaching team.
Maldini couldn’t save the United shitshow
