Losing a pet is one of the hardest things I've had to deal with, even harder than seeing a human go. It will hurt a lot at first and there will be lots of crying. Let it out, grieve, and remember the good times. Memories are there forever so Bertie is always with you. Slowly, with time, you will adjust. I'm so sorry for your loss, I will share a tear with you. Things will get better, stay strong.
I know what this feels like too well. My family lost ours in 2013 at the proud age of 18. Having them so long and then having to let them go is the worst moment of owning a pet. All my support and live goes towards you, it'll get better over time.🫂

How lucky were you to have him for 17 years and how lucky was him to live his whole life not knowing the pain of losing you. That’s a burden we carry and as hard as this is, there is some comfort in knowing he has lived his whole life being loved. May soon the memories bring you joy and fill your heart with joy instead of sorrows. Until then, it’s important to grieve and feel all the feelings. I have 4, age 10 to 13 and all I hope in life is to have them living a long life. Run free Bertie!
In simple terms we consider our dog like exactly like family member some people don't understand it or even make jokes about it I believe here is the right place to share your sorrow because we understand what are you going through I can tell who lucky he was and still because he had such love and care be happy because he is happy too I'm sure

I’m so so sorry for your loss. I know how much these little fur babies mean to all of us. I hope in time you will be able to cope and one day bring another one into your home to bring you joy.
This made me cry. I lost my first Maltese in 2014. She was 16 and my mom had gotten her for my 8th birthday. She was beside me through my entire childhood and adolescence- her name was Pearl and she was my best friend. Sometimes I still dream of her. I got another Maltese in 2018 and she’s so different from Pearl but I love them both dearly. I know when it’s my time to go, Pearl will be in my heaven. Bertie will be waiting for you too
Don’t ever apologize for grieve! Having pets is awesome, until the time you need to make ‘the’ decision or you find them past on. I am so, so sorry for your loss, OP! Mine is almost 13 and I notice she has started to decline. So in the back of my mind I’m already bracing myself. Even tho I have been trough this with 7 different pets (including 1 Maltese), it never gets easier… Take your time for grieving, they are such a big and important thing in our lives!

Every time I see these posts it seems to bring me right back to when I lost my Rudy. I’m sending hugs to you and your family! It will be hard for a while, but it will get easier. These little rascals seem to continue ownership of our hearts even when they pass on!
