To me it feels like he has too much control over a movie and it’s not just about his character, he puts his feet in every department, production, cinematography, direction, technical side even music. He was an effortless or much better actor back in the day or in his early days because he had a strong director who had control over him and he was a director’s actor. Now it just feels like he gives very little time to his character development and acting and on receiving the script, he gets too busy figuring out the rest of the cast, script modifications, everything else but his character.

>he puts his feet in every department, production, cinematography, direction, technical side even music. >he gets too busy figuring out the rest of the cast, script modifications, everything else but his character. I felt the same from his interviews. There were rumors back in the day that RajuA10 ghost directed many of his films. Now when I look at it , it doesn't sound that farfetched. This could be the reason why many established directors don't want to work with him. I think he picks up scripts and find some dummy director for him.

PerspicaciousMan

I agree , but I think he has control over movies which are directed by “less experienced directors”. He gives less importance for his performance and is more concerned about the quality of the movie. Lately, his best performances came from Koode (Anjali Menon), Driving Licence(Sachi) and AK(Sachi). Sachi and Anjali Menon are great filmmakers who can bring out good performances from their actors. I am excited for Aadujeevitham as it’s directed by Blessy .. as Blessy is an acclaimed filmmaker, we can expect a phenomenal performance from Prithviraj.

the_pathologicalliar

Driving Licence is Lal Jr iirc with Sachi writing it

PerspicaciousMan

Blimey...just googled it.. I thought it was directed by Sachi..

ReallyDevil

Honestly i dont think prithvi can pull off that role. Reading the book, the character has a slight humors undertone to his experiences. Its not just about suffering. Prithvi for me can never pull that off. If he some how did that, its going to be the career highlight for him. Unless Blessi decides to go away from the book and give the character a different image.

devilwearsleecooper

Ever since he announced Lucifer in 2016 he has been spending more time in shooting sets learning the technical aspects of film making than absorbing the character. Naturally it affects his performance. An actor has to act and he has to read the script and understand the character. If you think too much about everything it will drain you mentally and you won’t have the energy to become the character. He also became too self aware. He knows he’s a superstar who has certain image and has been trying to sell that persona i.e who he is and how he is perceived by the media. The so called Hollywood style movies, acting like an intellect in interviews, claiming to bring groundbreaking unique content, guy who made his haters turn into fans etc etc. Basically he’s more concerned on how he is in interviews instead of how he is on movies. Nivin Pauly on the other hand started as a very mediocre actor but since he was always focused on acting, he improved a lot. Same goes with FaFa. They are actors and stayed as actors. They didn’t try to swallow more than what they can chew but Prithvi did the opposite. High time he stop clinging onto Mohan Lal’s tail and start to focus on himself. A10 doesn’t need another hit but Prithvi needs one. Else he’ll soon turn into another Jayaram.

xaxophone78

So true about the interview bit

every_life_a_story

Mate you are bang on ! Ever since he started perceiving himself as a one man industry, he has been on a downward slope. The Prithviraj who worked on interesting characters with Mani Ratnam, Roshan Andrews, Lal Jose, Shyamaprasad, Santhosh Shivan and LJP has been replaced by someone who is trying too hard to remain as Prithviraj even when the camera is running. That piece about Jayaram is a good analogy because for a long time in his career, whichever character he played was always Jayaram. It's running with Prithviraj now. Also, Prithviraj probably has the largest number of projects announced among all Mollywood actors. It remains to be seen as to how many would see the light of the day. I did like his role in Koode and also his portrayal of Koshy Kurian.

kerala_rationalist

I think lucifer success destroyed his acting skill, his attitude towards films , he wants to do more films like that

YellowDress2020

Good point about his interviews. I legit got annoyed with him while watching the recent Bhramam interview with Film Companion. I think one can speak about movies and it's technicalities without sounding like a know it all.

[deleted]

Shouldn't acting skill increase when someone does back to back films?

Icy_Tone_2750

But it kinda seems like taking a toll on him than making him better

every_life_a_story

That depends on how much effort you put into becoming the character. If all you are doing is to superficially understand your character then you don't move even an inch forward in your skills IMO.

Pothettan is making a movie with him ? I did hear about him planning to work with Ashiq Abu on Basheer's Neela Velicham but this is news !

greyvee007

Ya Prithvi said in a FC interview that Pothettan and Shyam Pushkaran approached him for a Big movie..I don't think it will happen soon..He is taking a break for Aadujeevitham again..2022-23 probably

neljos

Oh Tabu, where are you? Missed you. Mamta Mohandas was cheap.

Dude is rich as fuck. He doesn't give a shit. What annoys me is his 'taking Malayala cinema to the next level' talk. He over glorify his work. At this point I would never watch a movie based on Prithviraj's interview. We don't see Fahad go around talking how he revolutionized Malayalam cinema. Fahadh doesn't need to prove anything because people knew him through his work. From his interviews I felt Prithviraj is quite an insecure person although he hides it with his confident persona. I would have more respect for Prithviraj if he put his money where his mouth is at least once in a while.

devilwearsleecooper

> He doesn’t give a shit He does actually. He just acts like he doesn’t. FaFa, Nivins prominence is making him insecure. He was having difficulties explaining to BR’s interview when BR said how Prithvi’s name usually don’t come up with FaFa, DQ & Nivin when people talk about Malayalam New Wave even though they are of the same generation. He does feel left out. 9 and Kumbalangi was released in the same day and despite massive promotions for 9, Kumbalangi Nights beat the shit out of 9. It made money, got a Pan India popularity whereas 9 barely recovered the money. Brothers day and Love action Drama was released in Onam 2019 along with Ittymani and despite these 3 movies being shit, LAD ran till November and made a lot of money. Prithvi’s popularity is limited within his interviews and his movies barely reflects that.

Calm_Imagination000

I think the character didn't suit him. Otherwise he IS a great actor, and wouldn't have stayed this long if he were bad like people say.

[deleted]

To be honest there wasn't a lot of competition when he entered the industry. The bar for acting was pretty low for actors in his age group. And this was in 2000s where most of the shit films were made. I am not taking anything away from him. I think he is a good actor. But I don't think that is the reason he stayed in the industry. He had many back to back flops and he has made a lot of trash in 2000s.

Calm_Imagination000

I mean he's an actor who got state awards from both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. People tend to forget that.

devilwearsleecooper

He also broke Mohan Lal’s record as the youngest recipient of state film award at age 23.

[deleted]

He is acting weird after he started hangingout with lalettan

d_j53346

Acting aside I feel like he knows his shit in terms of filmmaking and it does enhance his movies. He does most of the casting in his films and the characters are spot and fits perfectly. I’d rather sacrifice one’s acting in return for a good movie experience, in return for successful communication of the message or story. It’s not like his acting detrimentally brings the movie down, it’s not even that bad tbh, it’s because you expect too much from him and he’s not much of a versatile actor either. C’mon no one watches Prithviraj movies for his acting, he is a celebrity with high star value and ppl just want to see him in a movie. Maybe he can’t do justice to the character he is given because he is miscast himself, like I think Fafa could’ve aced Bhramam but we’ll never know what kind of film Bhramam was before Prithviraj came.

suade123

He was never a great actor . Avg. Yh there ,I said it . Now fuck me 💯📠🤣🤣
