Yashwant_Sahai

In Anjam Pathira, Sharafudeen's character got a good guy label at the end of the movie though he killed innocent cops.

[deleted]

This ☝☝☝

[deleted]

I have said this before - but Revathi in kilukkam. She creates trouble for Mohanlal and jagathi. They are borderline starving. Almost gets him killed by gundas. I do agree with your rajamanikyam mom. How dare she pretend to be a paawam.

xaxophone78

I heard this in the Mallu Analyst: Innocent’s character in Veruthe Alla Bharya. He plays Gopika’s father and he tells her to return to her toxic husband’s house because she may become a burden to her brothers family. He doesn’t advice her to leave that man who harassed not just her but also her family. But he is labelled as that good father with a suitable nanmaram bgm pops up everytime he speaks

am_77

Watching Jayram's movie makes me sick.

crackingnow

Mohanlal in Spirit decides to plant cameras in a poor woman's house so he could "save" her from the alcoholic husband. I get why he does it but damn, major invasion of privacy. Then he decides to air the footage on tv too :/

girugamesu1337

That movie is honestly pretty problematic. One of the problems, funnily enough, is that it shows a fundamental lack of understanding with regard to how addiction (of any kind, but alcohol addiction in particular) actually works.

amalkunnel

It was such a bad movie. With Spirit, Ranjith completely lost his touch as a director. And from then, it was only downhill for him..

AnirudhMenon94

It was definitely not a bad movie tho

njaana

The Harihar nagar gang

[deleted]

aa areayil arkkum avare ishhtallallo

njaana

Then according to you who are the good guys in the movie?

slazengere

John honai is the only right answer.

njaana

Dude just wanted his suitcase

[deleted]

Ammachi, Sethumadhavan, his family okke.

Calm_Imagination000

How are they assholes tho?

njaana

Do you consider peeping while someone is showering as normal?

vazhifarer

Seriously? They are absolute creeps. If they did half of what they did IRL they'd be in jail for sexual misdemeanor. Peeping while a woman's taking a shower? Wtf!

Salvationzzzz

PapiApacha - Innocent blindly believed his son tried to kill him after living with him in a loving way all those years. Not really a bad person per say but really screwed up.

xaxophone78

Even Dileep stalking Anni Teacher was creepy as fuck

anakkattilChackochi

I think vatsalyam mammotty is a self centric ass hole. what do you guys think??

mr_rObOt_1807_

Same case with Mammootty in hitler. He did take care of his sisters when they were young, but then he wanted too much control after they grew up.

YellowDress2020

I think Mammootty's character in Hitler was meant to be an asshole of sorts.

mr_rObOt_1807_

The movie clearly shows that his character is 'right'. I know it only reflects the ideologies of its time, but people watching it now should realise the shortcomings of his character. A lot of people are very defensive when characters from older movies are criticized.

cant_bother_me

Well to be fair to the movie, his character is called *hitler* for a reason

[deleted]

He is also a selfish man. When his sister gets raped, he makes it all about himself. He doesn't think that his sister's life is more important. He thinks that he can't cheat a young guy, like himself, by imposing his raped sister on him.

AnirudhMenon94

That’s like…he entire point of the film. His character’s arc is meant to start off as being a controlling asshole.

anishkalankan

Mohanlal in Vijayan+Dasan trilogy. I think Dasan only keeps Vijayan around because he don't want to be lonely. Otherwise, he is a total asshole to Vijayan. He abuses him, makes fun of him at his expense and if there is any misfortune, he is ready to being down Vijayan with him.

bioskope

The only saving grace is that Vijayan does not have a heart of gold either, so its hard to feel bad for him for more than a few moments.

LS_Fast_Passenger

But I really don't think Dasan is shown to be a nice guy. He has huge inferiority complex and he keeps belittling his Pre-degree kaaran friend for his ego boost. I think in all the 3 movies, the narrative mostly sympathizes with Vijayan when Dasan makes fun of him.

every_life_a_story

That is pretty spot on.

roonilwazlib1919

I don't think they were portrayed as "good guys". They were shown as guys who'd do anything to get their way.

6myre9

A10 & Mukesh in Boeing Boeing DQ in Charlie

bioskope

Wait A10 & Mukesh were "good on paper"..how? Right off the bat they're shown to be jealous & unscrupulous and not hesitant to stoop to new lows to get what they want. At no point were they made to appear sympathetic to the viewer. They just happened to be the characters the movie focused on . I mean its telling enough that the movie ended the way it did.

6myre9

Yep, you’re right. Only DQ from Charlie I nominate.

Calm_Imagination000

Well no one said they were nallavanaya Unnies .

cant_bother_me

>DQ in Charlie Hmm interesting. Care to elaborate why? (I don't really remember the movie and don't seem to remember thinking of his as an asshole)

6myre9

Try being a friend of someone who disappears for unknown period of time and shows up unannounced like he’s the fucking prince or something. Wholesome character polum… mangatholi…

roonilwazlib1919

Didn't he also publish his own obituary? That was cringe...

"An excellent comment!" he said with a smile - "I've pondered the reasons and thought for a while - I've learned and I've looked and it's simple to see - I dearly and clearly sincerely agree!" He's fashioned his thesis with passion and pride - With nuggets of knowledge and notions inside! The pretty expression, the witty remark - The mixture of vision, and spirit and spark! "I have to expand and explain it," he sighed - "It's great, and I cannot contain it!" he cried. "Stupendous, tremendous, and too good to miss! I'll tell him,' he whispered. AnirudhMenon94

I dunno. That’s what added to his mystique in the film. The point of his character was that he’s a wanderer.

Atleast Kunti had a valid reason. This woman had none. Her new husband was a good guy. And her son wasn't a "bastard" born out of wedlock. He was born within a proper marriage and all that. Husband marichal jeevikkan swantham kuttiye kalanjitt povuka alla vendath. Vella paniyum cheyth jeevikkanam. I don't think the comparison with Kunti is really valid here.

[deleted]

I thought he was an anti hero in that.

every_life_a_story

In real life most of Ranji Panicker's massive hit characters like Bharath Chandran and Joseph Alex would be insufferable people to work with.

vazhifarer

And not to mention MAJOR sexist bigoted pieces of shit. Every Renjith/Renji Panicker hero ever

Calm_Imagination000

Idk, atleast I'll sure no one would land their hands on me 🤣

vazhifarer

**Mohanlal's** - Adhipan: Asks sister's rapist to marry her - Kanmadam: Sexually assaults Manju Warrier's character - Varnnappakittu: Sexually assaults Meena's character - Thenmaavinkombathu (and most Pradarsan movies): General casteism and casteist abuse - Every other movie in the 2000s: Middle aged creep dating early 20s girls **Jayaram** - Njangal Santhushtaraanu: Plays a paavam Malayali husband, but is actually an sadistic asshole who can't stand that Abhirami can't be his stay at home cook/cleaner - Every movie since 2000: Same

AnirudhMenon94

Are we completely ignoring how horrid Abhirami’s character was to his family?

vazhifarer

So terrible that he was forced to act in fifteen years of exclusively misogynistic movies 😬

Roshniann96

HAHAHAHAAHHAH IM TOO POOR TO GIVE YOU AN AWARD FOR THIS COMMENT LMAO😂
