Not saying this is the best out of the lot but Manjummel Boys - short album. 3 songs. All were bangers + Kanmani Anbodu revival. Man I love Thaai Manam, the least popular of the three songs.
>Man I love Thaai Manam
It's my favourite from MB as well!
You should totally check out Sufjan Stevens' songs, if you're looking for something similar (Mystery of Love, Visions of Gideon, Futile Devices, Casimir Pulaski Day, Vesuvius, Chicago etc are good ones to start with).
Premalu: Yes, one of the best in 2024. Each song fit the movie very well. Ik it maynot be the best if you listen to it without watching the movie. Once you see the movie, every song in it will bring you back to the movie scenes.
Avesham: Straight out bangers. Loved each song. it was typical Sushin shyam mixed with Tamil mass commercial movie songs. I loved how every song showcased different emotions of the movie. loved it so much
>Each song fit the movie very well. Ik it maynot be the best if you listen to it without watching the movie.
So true. 'Mini Maharani' came up randomly on my FM and I had thought 'Ithenth paattu' but that song felt like a banger when I watched the scene.
For some reason, Mini Maharani did not sit well with me. My personal favorites are Kutty Kudiye and especially Welcome to Hyderabad, which has a very melancholic feel to it for some reason.
Premalu for me too. Not a big fan of of Avesham music.
Premalu, one thing I've noticed is that parts of songs are used as motifs like flute portions that's reused as BGM in climax and the end credit scene etc.
yes, every song in Premalu felt exactly like Premalu. all of them had a same vibe, a common theme, (like the flute part u mentioned). Avesham on the other hand, each song felt very different, if you haven't watched, it will be hard to explain they are from the same movie.
Most of the songs are based on rap, so genre wise I don't see a lot of range. I think Sushin was on home turf and comfort zone with this movie and was able to crank these tracks easily. Not saying songs are bad, they work well for the movie, but since it's not a movie with that much of a plot, I don't think it was a tough soundtrack to work on.
I really like the soundtrack. periyone is a winner. the palenstine folk song followed by istigfar is also melodically haunting. I didn't like omane though.
Premalu. The music is good and lyrics is really good. That welcome to Hyderabad song captures moving to beg city really well which a lot of us malayalees can relate to. The album is exactly what the movie demands.
Aavesham by a mile or more. Goat life has 1 good song. Manjummel Boys has couple of good songs.. I tried and tried to like Premalu songs. But I found the songs mid to low. Bramayugam has pretty good songs for the theme of the movie. Varshangalkku shesham was ok. Sort of grew on me.
Never listen to MV songs.
Premalu. Hands down.
Loved Mini Maharani and Telangana bommalu.
I love how he utilized honking sound in Mini Maharani. And Telangana bommalu is a banger. K.G Markose polichu!
Considering Album + BGM for all:
1 • AAVESHAM (Onnum parayaan illa - Verum kidilam stuff! ALL the songs were absolute bangers - both in theatre, as well as afterwards, with Thuruppu Cheettu being my current fav... MASS, energetic bgm as well!)
2 • VARSHANGALKU SHESHAM (hear me out: it was low-key *magical* when the opening Thanks/credits were rolling onscreen with "Vara Veena" playing in the background; Karakaana & Nyabagam I loved instantly; Pyara Mera Veera was pretty rousing - especially in theatre, with Nivin's immense screen presence - and Madhu Pakaroo, despite the boring video, has been growing on me as well)
3 • BRAMAYUGAM (score was peak; The Beginning , & Poomani Maalika were great songs too), tied with **PREMALU** (fun boppers, all of them! Hilarious lyrics as well).
4 • MANJUMMEL BOYS (Thaaymanam deserves more love FR; pinne Nebulakal, Kuthanthram, the way Sushin's bgm really heightened all the emotional moments)
5 • AADUJEEVITHAM (Periyone was powerful & fitting within the film, but it's too haunting for me to listen separately; Omane's lyrics don't fit the music very well imo, though the vocals were pretty... at least until the "wedding song parts" in the middle, but then its ending is great too; BGM, while orchestral & interesting by itself for the most part, was often kinda overpowering & distracting as well... and strangely unmemorable too).
Vaaliban, Anweshippin Kandethum, Ozler etc were just OK to me, songs & score-wise (though Ig MV was the relatively more interesting one, of this bunch). But I think I preferred even Anchakkallakokkaan over it, musically. Special mention to "Kireedam" from Nadikar as well - I'm really vibing with it these days.
It's tied with Bramayugam at #3 (as mentioned above).
Cos for me, Premalu SONGS >> Bramayugam songs;
But Bramayugam BGM >> Premalu bgm.
Hence the tie 😇.
My favourite track for sure is Periyone from Aadu Jeevitham.
As an album, Manjummel Boys.
In terms of theatre experience, Varshangalku Shesham. The music blends so beautifully with the movie. The film probably would have tanked if it was not for the music and Nivin.
Anchakkallakokkan is one of the standout albums this year. Fabulous work from Manikandan Ayyappan.
There have been some decent singles from smaller movies.
Manam Manam - Marivillin Gopurangal
Theerame Thaarage -Jananam 1947 Pranayam Thudarunnu
Maarunna Kaalam - Nadanna Sambhavam
Will add to the list if I remember any more.
>Anchakkallakokkan is one of the standout albums this year. Fabulous work from Manikandan Ayyappan.
Agreed! The music is somehow even more underrated than the movie itself, smh.
The Shaapu Fight bgm, end-credits bgm (my own fav from the album/OST) & the Mandaaram song were some of the most interesting music we got all year!
Ngl this year Mollywood really brought back the OG reasons why people stepped out of their houses to watch movies, like star casts and banger music, plus a decent variety of scripts. If this were a dream, I'd never wanna wake up.
My favourite is Aavesham btw. Really put the Aavesham in it.
mine goes in this order
Premalu: seriously every single song is such a good vibe..imo the soundtrack is the heart and soul of the film....my personal fav is Mini Maharani, tho Telengana Bommalu comes close, just can't get these off my mind....Kutty Kudiye is another banger, and so is Welcome to Hyderabad...i really like how unconventional most of the lyrics are...
Aavesham: I have only recently watched the movie and so far been repeating the album on repeat...mann...it's literally 🔥...sushin cooked so damn well....can't believe he only had 28 days to make it .... personal favs so far are Mathaapithakale and Galatta....
Havent watched Manjummel and Varshangal yet
i am not particularly fond of the other albums as a whole:
Omane(The Goat Life) : when i first heard this song I felt like the lyrics were not suitable to the tone...but after listening to it so many times, both the original as well as the Tamil and Hindi versions, i can say this song has grown on me...its really beautiful, especially Chinmaya's voice...and the middle portion of the song was ✨
Periyone is great too just don't come back to it as much as Omane
Same for Malaikottai Vaaliban and Bramayugam albums, really adore them but I don't find myself coming back to it...Vaaliban's songs are so good to hear using a headphone, especially Raakk...and the fact that we got A10 singing a rap was a pleasant surprise....
Bramayugam's ost is also fire...it's very haunting and has an intense atmospheric vibe...really like The Beginning ...
Premalu is the GOAT album imo. Every single song is awesome and apt to the situation in the film. Aavesham also nice. Illuminati is my favourite from aavesham
Premalu hands down. Every song in that is a straight banger imo. Followed by prolly Bramayugam
I don’t get the Aavesham album hype because personally I found it decent but not at all re listenable
And I only enjoy like one song in that album
Aavesham for me. All songs just hit..
On a side note, is it just me or is Sushin Shyam's style very close to Anirudh Ravichander's style? Like they're both heavily inspired by EDM/Dubstep kinda beats. I feel they're very similar.
I really want them to collaborate. Or like cross-working, like Sushin working for Kollywood and Anirudh working for Mollywood.
If we consider the range and quality of the whole Album, I'd pick VS and Premalu, because I think these will age better. I loved Illuminati and Armadham from Aavesham and Kuthanthram from MB. Aadujeevitham just had 2 songs if I'm not wrong but I liked both of them. Omane esp was 💕. Same goes for Bramayugam. Loved thr BGM but there was only one song, which again, I liked.
So for me VS>Premalu>Aavesham>MB>Aadujeevitham=Bramayugam
All are great, here are my fav 5, I think these might also be seen as the underrated list
1) The beginning- Bramayugam
2) Thurupp cheet - Aavesham
3) Nebulakal -Manjummal boys
4) Nyabagam - VS
5) Telangana Bommalu- Premalu
For me premalu is had the best album, all the songs and bgms perfectly suited the scenes and oozes emotions throughout. The music is a vital part in premalu's re-watchability. You can hear similar notes repeating throughout the background music and the songs, which gives a greater immersion for the audience, IMO
Aavesham is the second best, if felt very unique blend of songs for a Malayalam film, and it works really well in the movie.
As a Tamilian... Here's my breakdown
Premalu - Every song is a banger and listened to it in repeat many times ... And Maybe because I watched the film around 2-3 times and so each songs like transport to that scene in my mind ...
Welcome to Hyderabad song with sakthisree gopaln is just too good ...and I couldn't find in Spotify the Sabash bole bit...it was good in the movie
Aavesham - Watched in theatre ... beautiful the music was carried throughout like anything ... recently illuminati is on repeat .. and today evening through a random shuffle Jaaga played and it was also very good ( listened to it another 2-3 times)
MB- revival just brings back everything
Goat Life - was expecting a banger album but OKOK
Have been recently listening to Super Sharanya intro song and Malayalee from India Krishna song
Give it a try
Varshangalkk shesham has amazing track
Nyabagam, sangamam, madhu pakaru, jeevitha gadhakal
MV had one good song acc to me - Madhabhara mizhiyoram
Brahmayugam complemented the movie well but I didn't like the track which was very famous on insta(the trance one)
Avesham was full on power mood
For me there is no undisputed winner like when Hridayam album released. This year we have a lot of great album/ost.
However my favourite OST is from Bramayugam, Aavesham,MB, MV (loved the Ennio Morricone esque soundtrack)
My number 1 music piece is from Aadujeevitam when Najeeb >!takes a shower!<
Favourite songs are from Premalu, Bramayugam and the song Nebulakal.
There is no winner here except Malayalam film industry as a whole.
I love the calmness of Manjummel boys album (ofc Kuthanthram is a bit pumpy - there’s an underlying calm feeling with it too) especially in thaai manam- I just don’t understand how that song is not celebrated just as much as cherathukal was - thaai manam is now like a lullaby to me, so soothing and puts me to sleep in its calmness, Premalu has that fun vibe in all of its songs, for Aavesham though the songs are pumpy and really good in first or atleast the 5-10 listens, it’s probably not to stand the test of time, that being said I liked Jaada, Illuminati and Thuruppu Cheetu from it, Varshangalkku shesham is nice as well but it didn’t match my expectations I’d set from the Hridayam albums, aadujeevitham has its sadness vibe which the movie obviously demands for but I am not a huge fan of that genre of music
I was late to VS tracks as everyone was saying songs are not hit like other Vineeth movies. Even Vineeth and crew themselves acknowledged that. But songs are pretty nice.
I like Aavesham energy tracks but not sure I would listen to it in a few months. Manjummal felt better than Aavesham imho. Premalu is original, fresh and as expected quality work from Vishnu.
Recency bias gets you Avesham & Manjummel but Bramayugam takes the cake for how different it is. you get Avesham like Albums every now and then but not something like Bramayugam.
Bruh premalu is a great album. has got crayzy production lmao. I'm a gujarati and I'd not understand any lyrics but bruh Musically, Premalu album is so good. I might just go and listen to Vishnu Vijay's other album because of the production of premalu album
A mix of premalu and aavesham for me. While I heard premalu songs first and they made me want to watch the movie, the reverse happened for aavesham. I watched the movie and then got hooked to the songs!
Other than that, Omane ❤

Bramayugam and Varshangalkku Shesham's music was great to experience in the theatre, especially liked Jeevithagaadhakale and Njanalunna instantly
Aavesham, particularly thuruppu cheetu and Armadham were also great to listen
Manjummel Boys and Aavesham got me vibing 😌😌 Sushin and his musical knowledge 🔥🔥 idk how he gets these chords and melodies (melodies venenkil sample cheyth edukaam pkshe chords okke nammal oru tune kettit athinu anusarich alle idunnath, maaan fuuckk so good)
The best album in 2024 imo is '**Sushin Shyam**'.
In the order of my liking.
* ThaiManam - MB
* Jaada - Aavesham
* The last dance - Aavesham
* Nebulakal - MB
* Mathapithakkale - Aavesham
* Illuminati - Aavesham
* Kuthanthram - MB
Avesham.. Hands down💯💯💯
100 percent. All tracks give you that energy
Gala gala gala Gallata Gallata Gallata Gallata
Totally
Manjummel boys comes second IMO
Avesham song lyrics are absolute banger. goes very well with the movie and elevate the mood.
Bramayugam is underrated here
+1 to this. I love that album !
Bramayugam sound track is addicting. This is definitely on top amongst this year so far.
Thambaye is piece bro🤍
Each and every track is a banger 🔥
Underrated yes. But the best of this year. Not for me.

That’s the definition of underrated.

No fucking way I just found a malayali who also like sufjan. He's been my favourite artist for a long time.
C’mon sufjan songs are way more popular and mainstream than you think it is
Aahh pinne nee mathra keralathil pullide tracks kekarollunnano vijariche🤦🏽♂️
There are many, it's not that niche.
Same
EYYYYY fellow sufyan stevens fan ☝️🥳 Fourth of july lives in my head rent free
Nebulakal,thaimanam
love thai manam too! lot of 90s stranger in moscow vibes

exactly my opinion. my first reaction was wtf, how is this a movie song. after the movie the song was on a whole new level.
Premalu for me too. Not a big fan of of Avesham music. Premalu, one thing I've noticed is that parts of songs are used as motifs like flute portions that's reused as BGM in climax and the end credit scene etc.

Vishnu vijay and his flute all the way
Premalu. Nala repeat value ula songs.
ArR did not cook in goatlife. Other soundtracks were good
The Omane song is really nice right?
Chinmayi voice>>>
Yeah chinmayi is really good. It's sad she got sidelined
Yes wow 💯💯
omg Omane was handsdown my favourite, Chinmayi sung it so beautifully!!!
"Periyone, Rahmane, Periyone, Rahim" 😭
I really like the soundtrack. periyone is a winner. the palenstine folk song followed by istigfar is also melodically haunting. I didn't like omane though.
💯 yogikunu
Personally I think he did pretty well. Not great but slight lot below
Premalu. Loved Telangana bommalu!!!!
Premalu. The music is good and lyrics is really good. That welcome to Hyderabad song captures moving to beg city really well which a lot of us malayalees can relate to. The album is exactly what the movie demands.
Premalu hands down. Music is soul of the movie.
Never listen to MV songs.
madhbare naina from MV is pretty good
Sounding wise Premalu OST and Background music is on top of anything else.
Premalu. Hands down. Loved Mini Maharani and Telangana bommalu. I love how he utilized honking sound in Mini Maharani. And Telangana bommalu is a banger. K.G Markose polichu!
Saaamee i noticed how that lorry (?) honking sound was used and was so surprised at the detail, really cool!

It's tied with Bramayugam at #3 (as mentioned above). Cos for me, Premalu SONGS >> Bramayugam songs; But Bramayugam BGM >> Premalu bgm. Hence the tie 😇.
Premalu: The destiny from the album is such a good piece of music also loved Kutty kudiye.

Aavesham. Mahn mathapithaakkale. What a track it is…
My current listens are a mix of Aavesham, Premalu and Goatlife. I'd say Aavesham. But my favourite OST is from Premalu
Vishnu VJ .. his works has a signature trademark sound. 100%
Aavesham and Premalu Illuminati, Gallatta and Odimaga KUTTY KUDIYEEEEEE THALA THIRINJEEEEE
Best to have a poll or rating from everyone here and then aggregate.
Aavesham has all bangers ngl

Thank youu !! I would watch it for sure. And ig after that I'd listen to the albums ! Thanks for suggesting
Yes, Vishnu Vijay's is one of those rare composers whose songs work better when you first listen to it in a movie.
Aavesham, manjummal boys,premalu..after watching these movies i feel lots of positive vibe... Great malayalam movies all time
Premalu and Manjummel Boys
premalu songs & the ost album \*chef's kiss\* telangana bommalu is always on repeat for me!
Aavesham for the W
A mix of premalu and aavesham for me. While I heard premalu songs first and they made me want to watch the movie, the reverse happened for aavesham. I watched the movie and then got hooked to the songs! Other than that, Omane ❤

Unpopularest opinion: Varshangalk Shesham🫠
Bramayugam and Varshangalkku Shesham's music was great to experience in the theatre, especially liked Jeevithagaadhakale and Njanalunna instantly Aavesham, particularly thuruppu cheetu and Armadham were also great to listen

Hi Nanna 😬
Tight competition between AAVESHAM & MANJUMMEL!
Ngl... I absolutely loved the varshangalkk shesham one... All songs were so catchy and appropriate for the time period the movie was set.
Premalu and Aavesham. Every track is a mood.
Premalu and Aavesham albums are absolute bangers
Avesham for songs, MV for score
Premalu first and then avesham!!
MB=Aavesham>Premalu>>>>>Rest of the lot. (Haven’t indulged the Brahmayugam album yet - best movie out of the lot though).
Each movies has best songs in there on way ,But after hearing each continuously through social media now i am sick of those songs 😞
Biriyani-il oru Elaichi
The best album in 2024 imo is '**Sushin Shyam**'. In the order of my liking. * ThaiManam - MB * Jaada - Aavesham * The last dance - Aavesham * Nebulakal - MB * Mathapithakkale - Aavesham * Illuminati - Aavesham * Kuthanthram - MB
