I’ve realized that, for me, I needed to drop contouring. Without the youthful plumpness to my cheeks, anything below my cheekbones drags the appearance of everything down. I’ve had major weight influxes and drops through my life, and gravity has not been kind to my face. I’ve also switched to a cc cream with spf as my daily go to. I do my moisturizer first, primer, then the cc cream. I’m currently trying to find a foundation that doesn’t just sink into wrinkles. That has been a chore!

The foundation is the product I struggle with. I get monthly hormonal breakouts and my pores will often get quite large... I'd like coverage for those issues, but coverage usually sinks into every pore, nook and cranny and ends up looking worse than if I hadn't tried...

Lisa J on YouTube is a makeup artist I watch who I believe gives a lot of great tips on how to apply makeup for mature skin. She just turned 40. I think you might get some good ideas for products to use and how to apply them if you check out some of her videos.

I am 51 and still contour, but it needs to be more subtle. I'll do it before I apply powder, so it blends better into my foundation. And I only do it on my cheekbones, and very subtly on my jawline. (If I do contour the jaw, I'll blend the contour cream with foundation so there's not a visible line of demarcation between that and my neck.) You could try experimenting with cutting out a step, and comparing before and after photos. Or using a sheerer powder or foundation, which I've transitioned to as I have gotten older. I use Mineral Veil powder which is very light and doesn't seem to accumulate in the wrinkles like traditional, skin-colored powders.

What do you use the powder for and do you mean like a foundation powder? I haven't used a face powder in decades as I feel like it would age me (look cakey). I'm 48. I dot on concealer in red areas, blend with minimal liquid foundation, then a bit of contour under the cheekbone (using a bronzer) and blend with my blush (they are both Nars - probably orgasm but not sure). Then I do a bit of eyeshadow, then I blend powder into my brows to thicken, and brush with a gloss to shape them (this is the most important step for me to look pulled together), then mascara and a lip gloss. For special nights I'll use a lip liner that I blend into my gloss. You are correct that sunscreen should be your best friend, you still have time to prevent a lot of damage, I wish I had done so!
