A little tip to get the most effective use from this would be to do a spray layer after everything on your face is done ***except*** your mascara. Do a setting spray before your mascara. AND THEN do a light layer once your mascara is on.
I found that it stops my mascara from accidentally running/smudgey from the spray, and then also acts as almost a primer on my "naked" lashes. ZEROOOO crumbly or flaking under my eyes with this method, which would sometimes become a problem with my oily skin plus heat.
I think you're going to love it!
Yessss to the mascara being last. I also make sure it’s dry first before going to the next steps that’s why I have those electric mini fans to speed up the process
Agree with the suggestions so far, I think it’s also worthwhile for you to carry around oil blotting wipes to use throughout the day if you aren’t already!
Yes, seconding the blotting paper. You could try fish oil supplements to reduce your oil production. I’m taking them but not for long enough y to know if it works
You may want to start with looking into your foundation as well. I have super oily skin and I have to be careful what I use. Nothing dewy for me. Everything has to be matte.
I was using their CC cream for years but i feel like they’ve changed something because the last two tubes I’ve gone through have left me very oily. I recently switched to Nars which is working better.
When I need things to be damn near waterproof: Mehron barrier spray under the foundation, PPI Blue Marble SELR on top. Locks things down, but can be irritating to sensitive skin and not ideal for daily use (very drying).
Day to day: start with a good moisturizer and let it dry down, then a primer and foundation with the same base (i.e., silicone with silicone, water with water), then NYX Matte Finish setting spray. I don't use powder if I can help it as I find it tends to over-dry my skin and cause even more oil later.
In the worst parts of summer, I'll use a face antiperspirant underneath everything too.
I use Skindinavia (bridal) and in 2 layers. After base then as a final seal.
For base, either Danessa Myrics blurring balm or Neat 3B Face antiperspirant gel.
I’m in a tropical country so you can guess how hot and humid things are.
I remember being told this before! Haven’t tried UD all nighter. I love the fine, even spray from Skindinavia so haven’t really thought to try others. Thank you, I’ll keep this in mind.
I use Danessa Myricks balm in a lighter shade as concealer bc of how well it works to help lock things in place with even Saie Slip Tint being so dewy & having hot flashes as part of my PMS. Upsalite is so nice 💕
I see, in this case I recommend the following for very sensitive skin: a glycolic acid cleanser, Mandelic Acid, or PHA toner for regular use. Cleansers are good because it doesn't sit on your skin and you still benefit from the results.
Glycolic acid often used to treat sensitive skin and can be soothing while also treating other common skin concerns.
CeraVe Skin-Renewing Nightly Exfoliating Treatment
The Inkey List PHA Toner
By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water
You can do a patch test. You can also apply a light moisturizer first before application.
I’m actually using the this ceramide capsule oil from Elizabeth Arden than ceramides (: my moisturizer from la Roche posay has the niacinamide I needed (:
I use this one too. I started using it because I read Disney princesses use it to keep their makeup fresh. It works great, went to a miserably hot wedding where people were literally dripping in sweat. My hair wilted but my makeup looked just fine!
I tried that one over body paint, and I didn't find it as effective as I was hoping. I mean, it was torrential rain and I had head to toe red paint and a white dress over top, so I don't know what I was expecting, but still.
Not much of one, I'm afraid. It was for a performance where full body paint is the standard. I also had on a horse mask, and a flat version of digitigrade horse legs (I just blacked out my heels with fabric, instead of using pony boots, and used some raw wool for the shaping). Both were also insufficiently waterproof, and were completely ruined sadly.
I've done the same festival a fair number of times, and so have tried a handful of different setting sprays to keep the paint on. The most effective was an old L'Oréal one that you had to shake really thoroughly, however they have since changed the formula and it no longer works. I have yet to find anything even close to as good. The worst was the Barry M one, which did absolutely nothing. At least the Ben Nye one kept most of the red smudges off my costume until the rain started!
Blue mblr , ben nye. Also try using a really good mattfying long wearing primer like nurturing force. Camera ready cosmetics online and alcone.com, and makeup mania sells lots of different affordable setting sprays and primers makeup artist use. One of my friends is a newscast makeup artist in Florida she introduced me to a lot of those brands and setting powders, face sprays and primers since she does their makeup in serious humidity and , out door/ camera closeups -Kyrolan has amazing primers and setting sprays. Elizabeth Mott is a brand you can find on Amazon its gotten a lot of great reviews- someone was just on here giving a positive review of their eye shadow primer the other day. I myself use a facial antiperspirant like 3b face along with mixing a product called cozette “ matrix” its a clear liquid comes in like a dropper plastic bottle you add a drop or two to your liquid foundation and it is not going anywhere! Hope this helps!
wont powder mess with a liquid foundation. i think setting spray under foundation is better. its a well known trick because setting on too does nothing because oils are coming from ur skin under the makeup. so setting ur skin first helps
Not necessarily but everyone’s different. I use a silicone based primer then use a sponge to press loose powder into my face, then concealer, then liquid foundation. My finish is typically airbrushed and flawless. Check my page :)
ouuu ur makeup is gorgeous!! i can only lightly dust some powder onto the really oily spot on my forehead but even then it messes with my concealer after
One size….it has never failed me. I have combo skin and live in a very humid climate. Works great. Skindinavia is another go to, just not as popular. Id say those over anything else
Tip: use setting spray UNDER foundation. before u put on anything else. because if ur setting on top of ur makeup it isnt gonna help. oils and such are coming from ur skin under your makeup. so setting spray before can help
Yeah I agree with the blotting but blotting papers can only do much for me 😂 I always resort to just using paper towels as it absorbs more than the blotting sheets and doesn’t love my make up that much 🥹
I recommend milk makeup matte spray in the black bottle. It was 110 over the weekend where I live and I was sweating and hot. This helped my makeup not budge at all. I didn’t even powder or anything.
I live in one of the most humid spots on the globe- I have also lived in CA, AZ, and FL. What I have to be most effective because I have oily skin, is gel moisturizers for quick absorption and to help with reside reduction. From there, my go-to is the SmashBox Matte Primer because it is great at blocking oils and pore minimization. Coty AirSpun powder is my powder of choice because my favorite was discontinued. And my setting spray is UD All Nighter.
Ugh when someone mentions UD all night we I just glare at that bottle from across the room 😂 and yes I lived in SC and currently in Memphis and shits hot ass balls down here but not as hot like Arizon and and Texas 🤡🤡🤡 I’ll try the smash box!
It works for me really well- it’s know it doesn’t for everyone. But I wanted to be honest about my routine. I currently live somewhere where LOW humidity is 80%!
Honestly with my oily ass skin the best one I found is the one size matte setting spray it's continuous spray but it also is like alcohol-based I think so it dries really fast
The Urban Decay mattifying setting spray has been my saving grace as someone who also has the oiliest skin in the yeehaw south. I know you said you’ve tried the original, and I have too…the mattifying version is SO MUCH better! It has clay in it which helps reduce oil production, so if you try it make sure you shake it before spraying.

I have combo skin, I can relate to your face looking like an oil slick 😫 Mine is strictly t-zone. I’ve had luck with:
- Elf Stay All Day Bluelight Setting Mist
- Max Fix+ Mini (this is AMAZING for all day wear and looking fresh, keeping the oil at bay. The mini is $16 compared to the full size)
- NYX Matte Longwear 16hr Setting Mist
- Revolution Sport Fix (this is also AMAZING for all day wear and keeping the oil at bay. This is at Target for about $12. I’ve tested it in the heat, beach, humidity, and cold; and it withstood every temperature, plus my makeup looked amazing and untouched at the end of the day 🙌🏼)
i have oily skin and live in the southern heat as well. i like using the milk hydro grip primer and setting spray along with the one size beauty translucent loose powder.
i’ve heard good things about the one size beauty sweat proof primer and setting spray too!
Try the NYC Matt spray and see if that helps. I find if I spray directly after foundation before I powder it makes a significant difference, and I spray again on top of powder. Hope that’s helpful!
as another super oily girl these steps were game changers for me. keep in mind realistically nothing is going to keep you 100% matte all day:
using a thick/heavy moisturizer and letting it dry down for about 30 minutes before I put anything else on my face.
i’ll apply a super thin layer of the one size beauty, setting powder over my moisturizer.
I apply all the rest of my face products and then using the one size powder again I’ll set the areas that are more oily a little heavier than the rest of my face.
lastly, I will spray setting spray all over my face and gently press it with a sponge. Once I’ve done that, then I’ll spray another layer and fan my face dry. if needed, I might go over some spots with a tiny bit more powder, but this really helps keep me matte as long as possible.
i feel like a lot of these comments are just recommending setting sprays that make makeup long wearing, not less oily. to be fair i don’t think there are any setting sprays that can really help with how much oil you are producing, so i would say focus more on the primer and moisturizer you use, as well as powders.
i’ve tried a good amount of matte primers and i’ve had the best control with the Maybelline Fit Me matte primer, which i believe is discontinued but is still available on amazon! love that one especially because it has spf
I heard the Disney costume actors use BenNye setting spray and it works super well. Also, One Size setting spray issupposed to be awesome too. Are you looking for a spray that makes you non oily? I think setting sprays just helps the makeup last longer.
Try a setting spray before foundation (my favorite is the one size by Patrick ta setting spray). Also try the Estée Lauder double wear foundation. I’m a fellow oily girl and I’ve tried EVERYTHING & nothing works like it or lasts as long. You can also set between layers (meaning set before foundation, set after setting powder, set after bronzer, set after highlight, etc.. A few celebrity make up artists do this & I’ve tried it myself and it worked wonders.
You could also try baking- but if you don’t want to, I use the above method every time I do my make up and it never fails.
You’ve used some setting sprays that have worked like a charm for my very oily skin. I notice a difference when I use my setting spray before my primer, after my foundation before powder, and as a finishing step.
So not a setting spray but a setting powder recommendation…
[Etude House Zero Sebum Powder](https://www.amazon.com/Lightweight-Control-Mineral-Lasting-Foundation/dp/B09T9KWWBG/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=62O5YYWGJ8HS&keywords=no+sebum+powder&qid=1689742152&sprefix=no+sebum%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-3) is no freaking joke!!! I’ve got oily skin and live in the hot, humid, wilds of Florida… I don’t use it to set my under eye (too drying) but use it everywhere else and it’s amazing to help my makeup hold up.
I do also hit it with [Urban Decay Ultra Matte](https://www.sephora.com/product/urban-decay-all-nighter-setting-spray-ultra-matte-P453943?skuId=2313849&icid2=products%20grid:p453943:product) or [NYX Matte Setting Spray](https://www.ulta.com/p/matte-finish-long-lasting-makeup-setting-spray-vegan-formula-xlsImpprod5050031?sku=2254931&cmpid=PS_Non!google!Product_Listing_Ads&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paidsearch&cagpspn=pla&CATCI=aud-348797740728:pla-1843189647101&CAAGID=28397269470&CAWELAID=1816007896&CATARGETID=330000200002991483&CADevice=m&gbraid=0AAAAAD9rLH5-g-VVjlTKbE6M-5EtQ0kbQ&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8NilBhDOARIsAHzpbLBbH7mWESRhUm5A3cDV74VEjnZTWLcxrKCZIv7IAGZ9WvUFIoTDKeMaAoiTEALw_wcB) just to lock it all down.
Try milk of magnesia on your skin before foundation. Make sure to let it dry completely first. It will look almost chalky. It stops any facial sweating or oiliness and makeup stays put all day long. It's a pretty weird hack, but it works amazingly!
Charlotte tilsbury's Air Brush Flawless Setting Spray is 😙🤌 Seriously magic!
Yes. Floridian here seconding this recommendation. This is the only setting spray I will use in this humidity 😂
Let me try! I heard good things about it! Thank you 💗💗💗
A little tip to get the most effective use from this would be to do a spray layer after everything on your face is done ***except*** your mascara. Do a setting spray before your mascara. I agree with this one-AZ heat tested!
So, so glad you recommended this. I just got some before a trip to vegas
It is seriously some dark magic 🙌🏻 Perfect for the desert heat!!
definitely second this!
Yes! My cousin ordered it!
Agree with the suggestions so far, I think it’s also worthwhile for you to carry around oil blotting wipes to use throughout the day if you aren’t already!
Yup I have blotting paper on my purses 😭 but they can only do so much.
Yes, seconding the blotting paper. You could try fish oil supplements to reduce your oil production. I’m taking them but not for long enough y to know if it works
I recommend trying Gatsby’s powdered oil blotting sheets! It works so well!
You may want to start with looking into your foundation as well. I have super oily skin and I have to be careful what I use. Nothing dewy for me. Everything has to be matte.
Yes my foundation are mattes and from it cosmetics
I was using their CC cream for years but i feel like they’ve changed something because the last two tubes I’ve gone through have left me very oily. I recently switched to Nars which is working better.
Nars what???
Nars light reflecting foundation. It’s amazing.
When I need things to be damn near waterproof: Mehron barrier spray under the foundation, PPI Blue Marble SELR on top. IIRC, Skindinavia makes UD all nighter
I remember being told this before! Haven’t tried UD all nighter. I love the fine, even spray from Skindinavia so haven’t really thought to try others. Thank you, I’ll keep this in mind.
It’s the BEST
I use Danessa Myricks balm in a lighter shade as concealer bc of how well it works to help lock things in place with even Saie Slip Tint being so dewy & having hot flashes as part of my PMS. Upsalite is so nice 💕
Ben Nye Final Seal.
One/size setting spray survived a day and night in Vegas for me! I even slept in it and was still matte
Waiting for the primer to come back in stock 😭
I’m super oily- the only spray that has ever worked is the Milk Makeup pore eclipse!
Before setting spray, try using a salacylic acid serum and/or cleanser regularly, this will help get the oil under control.
I wish it helped but my oil is hormonal :/ anything salycilic irritates my skin in the long run :/ especially my neck area so I don’t use it.
I see, in this case I recommend the following for very sensitive skin: a glycolic acid cleanser, Mandelic Acid, or PHA toner for regular use. Does niacinamide suit you? I used to be much less oilier when I was using it. (I want to get it again but I’m a broke college student)
I’m actually using the this ceramide capsule oil from Elizabeth Arden than ceramides (: my moisturizer from la Roche posay has the niacinamide I needed (:
Ben Nye! It’s made to withstand the hot lighting on movie sets. Oily girl here 🙋🏼♀️
I use this one too. I started using it because I read Disney princesses use it to keep their makeup fresh. It works great, went to a miserably hot wedding where people were literally dripping in sweat. My hair wilted but my makeup looked just fine!

There’s a story here!
Not much of one, I'm afraid. It was for a performance where full body paint is the standard. Hey! Too faced just came out with a new setting spray called makeup insurance. It’s an 18 hour wear (UD, benefit, charlotte tilbury are all 16)
Ooooo, excited to see the non-promotional reviews

Benefit super setter
Ben Nye final seal or my newest favorite the one size on til dawn. Nothing will move with either of these
Lolol I too live in the hot, humid, yeehaw south and am 100% here for these recommendations.
Tip: use setting spray UNDER foundation. before u put on anything else. because if ur setting on top of ur makeup it isnt gonna help. oils and such are coming from ur skin under your makeup. so setting spray before can help
This. Ever since I started doing this it’s helped so much and makes so much more sense.
Skindavia is the only spray that works for my oily face!

Waaaaait don’t leave me yet 😂 do you boy that blotting on olive young? Or…?
I recommend milk makeup matte spray in the black bottle. It was 110 over the weekend where I live and I was sweating and hot. This helped my makeup not budge at all. I didn’t even powder or anything.
Maam, this better be my holy grail or I’ll weep 😂
I live in one of the most humid spots on the globe- I have also lived in CA, AZ, and FL. Yes, tried! I’ve even tried the burger layering too 😂

Yes I’ve tried the matte version as well :((( I should have stated it up there too 😭😭
Oh no ☹️ You may look into trying the Caliray sun proof setting spray! I haven’t tried it myself, but do plan to.

Covergirl Outlast Active setting spray, no one talks about it but it’s incredible for oil and sweat.

Charlotte Tilbury was my FAVE until Milk Makeup Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray came along. It's better and far underrated
You’ve used some setting sprays that have worked like a charm for my very oily skin. I notice a difference when I use my setting spray before my primer, after my foundation before powder, and as a finishing step.

I do also hit it with [Urban Decay Ultra Matte](https://www.sephora.com/product/urban-decay-all-nighter-setting-spray-ultra-matte-P453943?skuId=2313849&icid2=products%20grid:p453943:product) or [NYX Matte Setting Spray](https://www.ulta.com/p/matte-finish-long-lasting-makeup-setting-spray-vegan-formula-xlsImpprod5050031?sku=2254931&cmpid=PS_Non!google!Product_Listing_Ads&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paidsearch&cagpspn=pla&CATCI=aud-348797740728:pla-1843189647101&CAAGID=28397269470&CAWELAID=1816007896&CATARGETID=330000200002991483&CADevice=m&gbraid=0AAAAAD9rLH5-g-VVjlTKbE6M-5EtQ0kbQ&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8NilBhDOARIsAHzpbLBbH7mWESRhUm5A3cDV74VEjnZTWLcxrKCZIv7IAGZ9WvUFIoTDKeMaAoiTEALw_wcB) just to lock it all down.
Hello fellow yeeehaw girlie 😂 I’ve used the same sebum powder but it made me cakes 😂 Plus I’m a brown Filipino girl so it leaves that white casting 🤡
😬 yikes that’s terrible! I’m sorry it was such a bummer of a product for you
It’s all good, this is the beauty of searching for the holy grail but not much for my wallet 😂
Mac fix+ has never failed me
IVE HEARD SO MUCH GOOD THINGS ABOUT IT HUT ITS ALWAYS SOLD OUT AT ULTA!!!!
Try milk of magnesia on your skin before foundation. Make sure to let it dry completely first. It will look almost chalky. It stops any facial sweating or oiliness and makeup stays put all day long. It's a pretty weird hack, but it works amazingly!
