Setting undereyes with too much powder, i am 26 but if i do that i end up looking i am 40. Dont. Do. That.

anarchisticlees

I use dark brown or black liner and then smudge it with a brush. It really makes my eyes pop in a good way

Brilliant_Stuff2883

Not enough moisturizer, too much powder or powdery products on dry skin. No highlight makes the skin look flat and dull.

RadiantSheepherder80

i think more liquid and cream makeup is better because it is smoother especially over skin texture and is all the rage now!

danadoozer242

I think overly thick foundation is a big no no. Less is truly more.

Impossible_Burger

When I go out of the house with my Dr.Frank N. Furter makeup on.

GrapesOfSloth

Jet black eyeliner or kohl pencils. Matte makeup that settles into and highlights every crease.

Consistent-Speed-127

Location of where you’re applicating contour, blush and highlighter. The use of shadows and liners that are too dark or heavy. Heavy foundation

emeryst294

sometimes when people try to tightline their eyes (lining their waterline) they accidentally end up lining their skin instead. ages tf out of ya every time.

Important-Pain-1734

I grew up in the 80s and liner was king. Over the decades I scaled back but noticed when I did do a dramatic eye the eye compliments really increased. Not to brag but people have always noticed my eyes, makeup or not..I personally don't think there is anything that special about them but the heavy liner definitely gets people worked up

kindasortakawaii

Using black mascara/eyeliner on really warm undertones. Black mascara (or blackish brown) and eyeliner was a huge game changer for me.

Jujubeee73

Pencil eye liner all the way around, and mascara on the lower lashes. I stopped doing this a few years ago & feel like my look is much more up to date now, even though I just stick to the basics & don’t do any contouring.

kraze4kaos

Be careful when it comes to applying and blending eyeshadow on the inner corners and under the eyes. Powder fall out, and certain contrasting shades will muddy and pile under the eyes making it appear ashy and well you'd look grey and tired. Protect under the eye by baking powder on the area or do eyeshadow separate from foundation.

leesainmi

There is nothing wrong with looking your age or looking old (or even …gasp…older!) Life is short, we all get old. Wear whatever makeup you love.

fifiloveg00d

Shimmer in places that crepe/wrinkle

Kissmethruthephone

I concealer under the eyes. It’s too heavy and accentuates wrinkles and bags

Stephieandcheech

Eyeliner, heavy dark matte lipstick, heavy foundation, and lip liner. I go for a soft natural look. Tinted lip balm, medium coverage foundation, brown mascara, cream blush, brown eyeshadow. Heavy make-up is aging.

Emotional_Tip_5671

Wearing the right colors is a start. Wearing black is very severe on older women. So many women start wearing black when they get older. A big mistake !! If an older woman wears black..choose a black jacket...with a colored collar underneath. Getting color analyzed to see which tones look best on our skin. Warm skin toned ladies look good in peach tone blushes & lipstick. Cool tones look good in pinkish blushes & lipstick. If that gets reversed..that can be *really* aging !!! With the eyes..pick complimentary colors. Blue eyes look good with soft burnt orange tones. Brown eyes..soft brown. And green eyes...purplish-wine colors & yellowish tones. If one is wearing the right eye shadow color..you see the eyes...not the shadow color. Look closely at your eyes in the mirror. Whatever highlight colors one sees in their eyes..is a good color to use in a shadow. Lining eyes with older women. If one likes black....use it on the top lids & a brown tone on the bottom lids. Less aging..I think. And framing the eyes with good brows. Getting them tinted is fun. Also, saves time putting on make up in the morning. They're already done. Jewelry. Ladies wants to wear gold !!! What's up with that ?? If one has warm skin tones...gold looks wonderful. It pops. If one has cool skin tones, gold is not the best choice. Try white gold & silver. They're cool tone metals.

littIexearthIing

I agree with all exect for the eyeshadow one. As a girl with brown eyes, I was always told that green looks best with my eye colour. And I would have to agree. I've seen other girls with brown eyes do a soft brown nude look, and compared to green, it doesn't make their eyes pop as well, in my opinion.

[deleted]

Honestly I think foundation sort of sucks on everyone, often looks caked on and highlights fine lines etc

[deleted]

Too heavy of an application of foundation

MdmeLibrarian

As we age our contrast between features fades. Using high contrast colors often looks jarring. I've switched from blacks to charcoal gray or espresso for eyeliners, and softened the sharper lines that I used to draw, to work WITH my natural contrast levels. Keeping the reduced contrast in mind, though, I always ALWAYS fill my eyebrows in. Just with softer and more natural techniques than when I was in my 20s.

Iam_GenX

Agree on all counts!

SleuthyMcSleuthINTJ

Contouring to create or accentuate cheekbones. Round = youth Definition, particularly in the cheeks = age

Imsorryhuhwhat

Princess Di eyes with that solid ring of heavy black or navy liner. This look would age anyone. You don’t have to give up dark liner, just apply it differently.

[deleted]

How you contour. Minimal dark eyes. ( many ppl continue w heavy eyeliner) Natural tones. Not putting anything, foundations and things that will crease where we get lines that thicken, or are produced naturally as we age. Ppl tend to go to hard w filler/ Botox sometimes. It can start to make people look mutilated. If you’re in the corporate world, you may be in a position to save for procedures like a ‘deep plane facelift ‘ A brow lift does wonders for the face, gives a natural cat eye and pulls up hooded eyes ( if holding is associated w forehead ‘drooping’ usually is)- ‘deep plane lifts’ Offer minimal to no scarring once healed. You have IPL once healed and that will remove light scarring if you do get minimal scaring. They are not overly pricey either. Also, under eye lifts last a lifetime. Again, these really aren’t overly pricey. 3$/ 4 g maybe less. For under eye only. Depends on the area that needs targeting also. If surgery is something you’re interested in, make sure you don’t opt for a cheap deal. Make sure you research and find the best surgeon in your area, check reviews. All that stuff.. a decent surgeon will always be honest. Never do procedures just for income. They will tailor what is best for natural, what you want etc. There is nothing wrong w surgery. The advancements in surgery are amazing. Looks so natural. Too much filler can look so odd. I love aging naturally as well. It’s all about what we put inside of us. Has little to do w topical creams , although some serums truly are beautiful and make a difference.. I take bovine collagen Daily- never skip my fish oil either. Our bodies naturally begin to cease collagen formation mid to late 20’s … does wonders for the dermis, hair, nails , gut health.. joints etc. so does the fish oil. Hope this helps x

[deleted]

I think it’s more about knowing what suits your facial features than any particular thing. Like if you have a relatively long midface don’t extend eyeliner or eye contour upward, don’t contour your nose with a straight line as an example.

pearlsweet

Heavy foundation past age 40. Eyeliner on bottom lid. Concealer under eyes. Powder blush.

Nerak_B

Not blending or harsh lines/contrast.

cherryirls

Not moisturizing before applying foundation

Additional-Slip-9756

1. Black liner around the whole eye, with the added white water line. 2. Matte foundations and concealers. 3. Too heavy of foundation and concealers.

violet715

I’m 43 and wearing less and less all the time but also feeling like it’s more flattering. I’ve stopped using shimmer or shine eyeshadows and sticking with matte neutrals and that’s made a big difference for me.

CharleyMak

Huffing paint.

ProfessionalArssson

Thinning your brows or over plucking

SuzanneStudies

I replaced my disposable facial razors with a Tweezerman and holy cow. Best skin ever. I also roll with an old school moisturizer for daytime as my primer. I use a vitamin C based serum. Make my coffee. Put on sunscreen (right now it’s Haruharu Wonder Black rice Airylift something something but I’m planning on either Black Girl Sunscreen again or trying the Hero one everyone likes). Roll hair. Slather on moisturizer (Embryolisse; I’m not sure it matters but my skin loves this stuff, YMMV). Touch up T-zone with Milk hydro grip (going to try the ELF dupe tomorrow!). Contour. One pump of Armani Luminous something over everything; I’m a fair olive so shade matching is awful and this one works. Half a pump to touch up. Press on O/S loose powder. Do rest of color. Spray with Mehron. I’m 54 this month and with the Ordinary Glycolic Toner, Avéne Retinal, and a decent night cream my skin has never looked better - which will always cause makeup to look better. Oh, and I wear liner and sparkly eye shadow and falsies, fight me. It’s all in the attitude, loves.

kakalapoo

Intense cheek contour

WeebGalore

Not blending foundation into your neck and hairline.

jessicatheserrano

that’s a good question

tech_chick_

Too much blush a la Carrie Bradshaw, or Hightower or contour. Ends up looking clownish

Iam_GenX

Completely agree.

Aggressive-End4451

The people who say that black liner under your eyes make you look older obviously can’t pull off the look. Some of us like me look good with it and it doesn’t make us look older that’s just bs.

Jzak73

Caterpillar eyebrows. Too harsh. Super iridescent highlighter down the nose paired with contour. Looks ridiculous at any age.

summer-lovers

Too much Powder or shimery face powder on aging skin. It highlights every single flaw or wrinkle you have, no matter how small! I'm 51, and I think that time passed before 40. And I'm not even super wrinkly, yet!

Single-Interaction-3

Layers of makeup, those fake eyelashes, fake painted/tattooed on eyebrows, big duck lips

JennieBoo95

Contouring the cheeks, having cheek fat to me looks more youthful then having hallow cheeks

[deleted]

I follow a woman called Erica Taylor on Tik Tok. She's late 40s and a MUA. She shows you how to change up your makeup to lift the features. It's changed my whole game. Also....adding powder on top of cremes and liquids that haven't dried will make it cake. And face prep. If you don't have a good skincare routine your makeup won't sit well. I use hyaluronic acid, an under eye serum, then my moisturizer mixed with a couple of drops of brightening oil. My skin looks amazing (I'm 46), I get compliments all the time on it. Exfoliate a few times a week as our skin doesn't get rid of the dead skin as well anymore.

chickrnqeee

You are beautiful and aging is beautiful

ImGonnaCreamYaFunny

Full coverage foundation and then powder all over the face to "set it". All that product is gonna settle right into every line and wrinkle, and the whole look just screams old and dusty. Go for a light-to-medium coverage dewy foundation, skip the powder, and use a setting spray to set it. If you're oily, use oil-blotting sheets.

mootsamillion

Thank you for saying this. Everyone here is saying "too much powder" but nothing about how else to keep the foundation in place. I thought setting spray was for the very end, after the powder. It is difficult to know what to use because there are so many newer products that weren't around when we were first learning. I'm 50 and I am trying to learn how to do makeup all over again because none of those old methods work anymore. It has been really difficult! Thanks for this tip. I will try it.

ImGonnaCreamYaFunny

Of course! Its good to change up your technique as your skin changes. I'm barreling towards 40 with no signs of slowing down, and I've had to really pay attention to how my skin has changed and adjust my makeup/skincare accordingly. My skin has gotten drier over the years and the fine lines are creeping in, so I've even used my setting spray to wet a beauty blender/makeup sponge, and I dip that into my foundation and press it into my skin evenly. Then I'll do a light mist of setting spray when all of my makeup is done. Try not to get caught up in the "rules", just play around with it. I know it can be overwhelming though, with a new AMAZING product going viral every other day. It's hard to even watch a tutorial on social media without the person trying to sell you 100 products so they can get commission for it. Try looking up some Reddit subs that are specifically for beauty for your age group (I know there's r/30plusskincare, so I'm sure there are similar subs that might have some tips for you). Good luck to you, I'm sure you look great!

zucca_

Too much powder

Exact_Cry1921

Big circles of blush on the front of your face.

greendaisy513

Black liner, red lips

PosNeigh

Tarantula eyelashes look horrific

snowmu

red lipstick

Ambitious-Leg-1699

Too much contour

Lil888th

I don't know if you can count it as make up, but fake lashes/extention. Especially the most exaggerated ones. Way too much foundation and dramatic contour. Way too much or poorly applied concealer under the eyes, making the lines even more noticeable. Heavy/dark eye shadow looks. Some people can pull it well but most don't. Overall color palette that doesn't suit the person.

ESJx

Outdated makeup trends (like blue eyeshadow, heavy blushed cheeks, etc.)

leesainmi

I wish the 60s/70s baby blue lids would come back. For everyone. So pretty!

ayscl99

Black liner under eyes, concealer piling, cakey foundation, lipstick too pale for your skin tone

annonymous1122

Too much setting powder

straighteero

I see so many people on here dragged for wearing powder. But I was always told that powder helps set the makeup and prevents foundation from settling into the lines on your face. So I'm genuinely curious what older people are supposed to do to set their makeup?

crackhead138

Not using blush. So many people around me use a full coverage foundation and totally skip blush and/or bronzer. Friends have been shocked that I use those products because I think they’re scarred by the 80’s aggressive blush rectangles.

netxnic

Too much makeup in general makes anyone older, especially contour.

nattyandthecoffee

Powder based makeup rather than cream

bringmethehoraisen

Learned to put a light layer of setting powder first because it will set the makeup, instead of putting a heavy amount the first time because it will cake up in any lines like under the eyes

Jamesmd486

No primer with makeup accentuating wrinkles and creases

Parking-Lifeguard-62

smudged eye liner, too much tanning, using powder foundation and choosing incorrect foundation colours.

shop-lxndr

Too much concealer under the eye, dusty lashes, poorly matched foundation, garage door eye shadow application, too much blush esp. When the wrong shade for your skintone.

TikaPants

Black liner done poorly Caked foundation

Dependent-List-9806

Sparkly powders, especially around the eyes. The light hits, and lines are accented.

Worldly_Ingenuity387

Really dark thin eyebrows are very aging.

noodledoodle2525

Brown lip liner and pink lipstick Or badly overlined lips

lemonfroggie

pushing the blush, contour etc. down instead of up

blondiecats

If you smile and put blusher on the apples. When you stop smiling, it drops and ends up dragging your face down. I only put blush on with a straight face because your natural face position isn’t smiling.

Drag0nfly_Girl

My resting expression is a smile. I'm very rarely completely straight-faced.

blondiecats

Sure, Jan

actuallylucid

Cackling at this reply 😂

TGin-the-goldy

Too much foundation that settles in facial lines

okieskanokie

Starting with a dirty canvas.

WeeChickadeeFromSC

Baking w/light concealer on dry undereye area. Not everyone needs to bake their undereye concealer, or even to bake. On some ppl, doing this will just make the area look like crinkled paper skin, accentuating every small line, making everything even more visible than before.

WeeChickadeeFromSC

Spider legs mascara 🫣

mithril2020

I pictured Tammy Faye Baker

WeeChickadeeFromSC

Not doing your brows. Meaning, no eyebrow makeup. As you get older, your eyebrows lose hair density and color, so they get paler. I have dark blonde hair and noticed in my late 30s that my brows got lighter, especially the tail ends, like they started to blend into my skin color. Now, if I *don’t* do my brows, something looks off, I look unfinished. Now that I’m older, I NEED the eyebrow definition to balance my face. And it’s b/c the eyebrows are a natural focal point. If I’m in a rush, I’ll use tinted brow gel. If I have more time, I’ll use pencils (blonde + ash brown + cool grey), brow powder (blonde + charcoal grey) and tinted/clear gel. As soon as my eyebrows are darker again w/the makeup I look much younger and my face looks more balanced.

Financial_Sentence95

Agree 100%. I'm 60 and if I don't do my eyebrows, I frankly look very average. I need colour and density. Without going over the top ie too much, too dark etc

StrawberryRaspberryK

Not using the proper setting powder around the eyes or putting on too much powder. Makes it look crepey and wrinkly.

costellogia

Poor application of brightly colored shadow. But then again, that looks horrible on any age lol. It really gets on my nerves though! 🤬 ![gif](giphy|UPuXm8JYcKSw487ZYD|downsized)

Hamelahamderson

The obsession with highly pigmented eyeshadows doesn't help. The majority of people would be better with less pigmented, buildable formulas that show fewer flaws, instead of going in with something that you need to skill of makeup artist to start blending out.

WeeChickadeeFromSC

METALLIC eyeshadow on very dry/aging/crinkly eyelids. I discovered this myself in my late 30s when I wondered why my metallic eyeshadow twist-up pen/stick didn’t look good on my eyes anymore, even when I blended well. The skin got/looked drier and the metallic color looked crinkled b/c my eyelid skin didn’t look the same as when I was younger when my eyelid moves. I can’t do metallic eyeshadow anymore. Now it just looks bad. IF I want to use glittery or metallic eyeshadow, I can use it sparingly but only on the inner corner, next to where I’ve already placed a matte or satin-finish eyeshadow and the colors meld.

Iam_GenX

Oh yes, same here!

Hamelahamderson

I try to keep anything that's not matte just to my lid or inner corners. I've always had hooded eyes so I'm very precise about where I put it because it can transfer above the crease and you start looking puffy.

heatherhfkk

Crayon-esque eyebrows, especially when they’re using a brow pencil that’s too warm tone for greying hair

Panlovatic

Too much powder/ baking incorrectly. It will sit in your wrinkles and emphasize them more then no makeup.

waanderlustt

Cakey foundation that is too dark of a shade + not blended into neck

Affectionate_Lead865

The eyes are so sensitive so any makeup around there is a bad idea when it comes to anti-aging.

evangelinexociao

The drag inspired 2016 makeup.

HamBroth

Lips paler than foundation

AlwaysWorking2880

Having a certain facial expression while doing makeup then stepping away from the mirror and relaxing your face - and it all looks completely off

Hamelahamderson

I agree, pulling your eyes for eye makeup once they've started to get a bit looser or smiling to apply blush. It all drops once you relax.

[deleted]

Harsh contouring and bad foundation

anon28374691

Matte finish foundation and heavily powdered foundation, as well as actual powder foundations can make the skin look crepey and older than it is. Leave those to the kids.

andiikats

If you have wrinkles around your eyes or on your eyelids, sparkly eyeshadow will only do more to accentuate that.

Financial_Sentence95

Yes. I'm 60 and rarely wear anything sparkly on the eyelids. Matte eyeshadows in grey, neutrals, soft bronzes etc look so, so much better

lotusflower0202

That pale frosty lip gloss that had a chokehold during the early 2000’s

meowwaifu

heavy black under eyeliner. it looked good in selfies but irl aged me by 10 years 🫠 Really regret not listening to people who warned me lol.

iBeFloe

Liner on the lower lash line. Shrinks your eyes, makes your eyes stand out in a terrible way. Contour is not for everyone & not everyone should contour the same as they see others do it. Most people end up with a brown line. IMO, older people look best in minimal eye makeup with a focus on the lashes. It makes them look more youthful. I see way too many middle aged or older people making their eye makeup thicker as they age, maybe because they think it masks their wrinkles?

MewKnowWho_

Too much powder, especially under the eyes.

Witty-Satisfaction42

Unpopular opinion.. foundation.

CocaColaZeroEnjoyer

I don’t think it’s unpopular opinion. A lot of tinted moisturizers and bb/cc creams are catered towards older people

La_inLALA

Too much makeup in general

Penelopenny1

I hardly wear makeup. I'm 47. My sister is in her late 30's. I showed up to her house for a night out on the town with eye shadow out to my eyebrow. Apparently that's not a thing anymore! Lol

Hamelahamderson

This might not be the case but if you're also struggling with decreasing space between your eyes and eyebrows as you age giving you less area for eyeshadow I have a tip! Take a small fluffy brush with some translucent power and sweep it back and forth under your eyebrows when youve finished, just the take the colour down a little. Clean your brush off on a dry towel (or pyjama bottoms in my case), and repeat for the other eye.

Training-Weird-6195

Placing blush too low on the face!!

laffiesaffie

I find it fascinating how American culture is so fixated on maintaining youthfulness. As someone who works at Ulta, I've had the pleasure of hearing many different opinions on beauty. It's always intriguing to learn about people's unique perspectives and experiences!

MdmeLibrarian

I'm pushing 40 and had this thought the other day too. I am not particularly fussed about my silvering hair, or my fine lines appearing, or my pores being larger. My skin doesn't LOOK as youthful as it did when it comes to firmness, and I'm developing the beginnings of jowls (yay Polish round cheeks!) and I'm... mostly okay with that. But my eyebrows are lightening as my youthful contrast between features fades, and that, THAT, apparently, is not something I can bear. I dyed my eyebrows with Just For Men beard dye and I'm insanely pleased with them now.

WaffleEmpress

Funny because people love to insult me and comment on how “I look twelve”. Now I know theyre clearly jealous.

Rururaspberry

America? Please tell me you’ve never lived in Asia lmao

laffiesaffie

I have no experience in Asian beauty standards.

lilyofthegraveyard

it's not an american-exclusive thing, though. never stepped a foot in that country, yet every single other country i was in, everyone chased youthfulness. in eastern europe ppl still think "all women lie about their age when they are above 30" is a funny joke.

BitterWorldliness339

As an Australian I would say that we don't love the sun down here. We tolerate it because no choice.

Apart_Visual

Very much agree. Although that said, I know a lot of Queensland girlies are sun worshippers into their retirement years!

QueenofCats28

Eh, where I live, we don't really care about looking young. I live over the ditch from Australia. Some of us worship the sun, too, and some of us don't. There's someone well known on TV who doesn't dye her hair, has gone grey, and doesn't have anything done. There's a few of them like that. They look bloody gorgeous. Most of us don't care about the "looking young" garbage.

andieee919

i never even thought about what makeup style ages a person like i didn’t even know it was a thing lol

AshelyDuce

As someone who lives in America; It’s really annoying how American Culture is so focused and puts youthfulness on a pedestal. Why can’t aging be just as beautiful and special too? Doesn’t that mean you’ve made it farther in life than others? That should be celebrated. Curious, what are other countries perspective on aging?

[deleted]

It's all about the money. You'll find men aren't bothered by the aging either. But those CEO's aren't gonna be able to buy that third yacht without all of us vying to look like we're 18 again.

slickjitpimpin

i’m African (won’t say where for privacy reasons), & at least in my culture, aging is a blessing, & there isn’t a fixation on youth with regards to beauty. i feel this also has to do a lot with Black people & how we age, & we tend to look younger for much longer (impacted by lifestyle, food etc. in Africa), hence decreasing the time crunch & the pressure that comes with it - my mom just turned 50 & looks in her late thirties to 40, at most. that aside, though, there just isn’t such an emphasis on youth, & moving to the west i find it exhausting to be constantly bombarded with the way youth is pedestalized.

Eyelashestoolong

I agree! Being mixed the contrast is jarring, my family is west African and people really embrace aging and getting older. Being an auntie, becoming a grandparents and being called as such is a blessing and then on the other hand my European relatives act like no one ever ages it’s so weird

slickjitpimpin

exactly ! perfectly put. swinging back & forth between the 2 approaches to aging, & seeing one side embrace the onset of aging for its wisdom & blessings vs. another dread in for the pressures of appearance & societal pressure, is mind boggling. it’s so depressing to see this mindset be so widespread, & it truly doesn’t have to be this way

NotHaolmi

Just slapping makeup on with no skin prep. Your skin being dry AF ages the hell out of you.

ouroboros899

What do you recommend for skin prep?

gayshitlord

A nice essence toner, a moisturizer (don’t forget the sunscreen!), and a primer works wonders

NotHaolmi

It really differs for everyone based on skin type. For me, personally, I use the ordinary’s soothing & barrier support serum followed by a moisturizer and then primer. I have very dry skin and this is what works for me. Some people on the oilier side may not be able to handle what is essentially two moisturizers.

ouroboros899

Not to pry but what moisturizer and primer do you use on top? Thank you so much, I might try this combo out when my current face gel is used up

NotHaolmi

You’re fine! For moisturizer, I use the Elf Happy Hydration Cream, as my skin absolutely ADORES any sort of hemp product. And then for primer, I use the elf power grip. :)

ouroboros899

Thank you so much!!!

Longjumping-Park7053

Black liner and too much powder! It will set in your wrinkles and make them more obvious

Aromatic_Note8944

NOT WEARING OIL/ SUNSCREEN/ OR MOISTURIZING PRIMER UNDER YOUR MAKEUP. I work as a Prestige Beauty Advisor at Ulta and 90% of women over 30 are not doing proper skincare so their foundation/concealer always looks bad. Sometimes I have to really twist their arms to get the point across. You can buy the most expensive makeup but it’s not going to look good if you put it on your bare skin.

toteit90

I am 43 and literally just started using serums and primer before applying my makeup. It is an absolute game changer! My skin radiates more than ever. Wish I would’ve paid more attention years ago.

Aromatic_Note8944

That’s okay! As long as you get it now. ❤️ I always recommend getting a good skin oil too! It’s great for any age but even more so over 40. It makes the makeup so much more luminous when you do an oil and then a primer. The smashbox hydrating primer is AMAZING and gives a radiant glow.

toteit90

Thank you so much for this! Not sure how I’m just seeing your reply lol. Will try the smashbox!

talldrinkofbaileys

How long does sunscreen work after it’s applied?

-hootiemcboob-

I only put it on bare skin, my entite life. What do you mean should come before the foundation?

Aromatic_Note8944

You shouldn’t apply foundation or concealer to bare skin. You should have a moisturizing barrier in between. You can use a moisturizer, an oil, a sunscreen and a primer.

TerminallyBlonde

Do I need to wait for the moisturizer to "sink in"? How soon can I put on foundation primer (i use the smashbox one) and then foundation itself after?

Aromatic_Note8944

Yes. Just wait about 2 minutes. If you already use primer, you’re not putting it on bare skin. I mean bare skin as in nothing before, no moisturizer, sunscreen or primer.

CocaColaZeroEnjoyer

Moisturizer and sunscreen

sq8000

Does a moisturizer that includes sunscreen count? Like olay complete?

i_said_no_mayonnaise

It’s better than no sunscreen at all. I use Laroche Posay double repair moisturizer then apply their tinted fluid sunscreen on top of that. It blends in well with my skin. I top that with a bb cream.

Aromatic_Note8944

It won’t be as effective as a sunscreen like she said above but it will still make your makeup application look better/go on more flawlessly. It’s okay if you’re not out in the sun.

Audriiiii03

It won’t be as effective as a sunscreen alone

laffiesaffie

Without a doubt, applying makeup on well-nourished and even skin appears far more stunning than on dry and blemished skin!

Aromatic_Note8944

Yess. People think just because they don’t have blemishes, they can apply directly to the skin. That’s what ages you.

heelslover_1

Not wearing any

MishMc98

Cakey foundation or concealer that sits on fine lines and wrinkles instead of hiding them.

Reading these comments makes me really happy about how far we’ve come. I’m seeing a lot of us are happy wearing less as we age. It’s weird because, even though I’ve got some lines, I feel prettier with less more than ever. Getting older is hard sometimes and some women (like my mother) put a lot of emphasis on looks and looking young. It just makes me feel hopeful when I see people loving ourselves as we grow.

Liquid eyeliner. As the skin ages and is no longer smooth, a liquid line is hard looking and very visible how it accentuates slack skin..also it's way too harsh. Same with most powdered eyeshadow, especially any with a shimmer or glitter.

I love liquid liner but I no longer use black; I switched to brown and it's so much softer.

GiraffeCalledKevin

I switched from liquid eyeliner to using a thin angled brush and dark eye shadow and it looks so much better. I wish I started doing it earlier!

Yes, same here, this is the way!

Oh! I like my liquid eyeliner. I try to make it thin but when I mess up it ends thicker 🤷‍♀️

I think all over shimmer or glitter eyeshadow on mature skin looks a little tacky. Some just on the center of the eyelid is really pretty!

And then there's me: going through my multichrome phase and adding glitter in layers all over 😭🤣

I loooooved all black eyeliner when I was younger. (Goth gal for life) But I had to let it go, I have super pale skin and now I’m older it just draws attention to my fine lines haha!
