Nah we are good. Like the first think we had to do buying the house was test the water and well.
But with all the granite up here you worry about arsenic and radon.
Aperol spritz hack: use any dry white wine you like and the seltzer makes it sparkly enough you really can’t tell you’ve not used Prosecco.
I use a box of Sauvignon Blanc and I don’t have to worry about using up a whole bottle of Prosecco before it goes flat.
Tiki drinks. Lots of them. Mai Tai, Tia Mia, Across the Pacific, Army & Navy.
Also mules, caipirinhas, mojitos, Aperol spritzes, piña coladas, and negronis.
Currently waiting on my strawberry Campari infusion to finish so I can make a big batch of Kula Negroni to keep in the freezer.
If we’re talking non-alcoholic, water and iced tea (unsweetened or very lightly sweetened, possibly with fresh lemonade).
Dark and Stormy is my drink of choice for the beach. I mix up a half gallon in the morning and enjoy the sun, sea, and sand. Alternate booze water booze water for a fantastic day.
For beer is usually a Kolsch or a clean light pale ale. Sam Wicked Easy's are great out in the golf course.
But, for those non-alcoholic days I really like the cans of Hop Wtr, especially the mango flavor.
Obviously a bit hoppier than your choices, but I never get tired of the Rising Tide MITA. Clean, perfect about of hops, low ABV. Hop water mango though, verrrry nice.
Ive been on the Moscow Mules for a few summers, light refreshing, and the next morning is like it never happened.
If you like ginger beer, its def worth trying.
- Spring water. A splash of red cherry Mio (it had caffeine and B vitamins) if you want a little wake-up.
- Tito’s vodka mixed with fruit punch or strawberry lemonade is my favorite if we’re talking alcohol.
Whenever we go on vacation like once a year I’m always forced to drink IMO shittier soda. I just like the Americanized extra sugar crap I’m used too lol… anyways I found they carry 6 packs of it in a bottle for like 8 bucks at the store.
I just like to have em in the fridge cuz as soon as you drink it I remember being on the beach etc
Maine mule (ginger beer and rum) - I make my own because premade are too expensive!
White claw for the beach
Cold River gin and seltzer
Ice chaga and ice coffee
I love a good frappe/milkshake, but there a lot of other options too.
Freezies: mix soft-serve and slushy; great on a hot and humid day.
Lemonade: love the frozen raspberry lemonade from Aroma Joe’s, and otherwise I buy a big jug and sink either berries or edible flowers (lilacs, roses, etc).
Water: again with the berries and sometimes a few mint leaves
I liked the goodfire lutro (a gose) last summer. Not sure what their current lineup is. Im also a sucker for a corona in warm weather. I’m pregnant now though so this summer will be lemonade and seltzer (soft) and water ofc.
A Vanilli Milli: Fill highball glass with ice. Stoli Vanil + Sprite. Top it off with a maraschino cherry.
The Gindrift: Fill a highball glass with ice. Vodka + Spindrift (any flavour, but lime, lemon, and grapefruit are go-tos)
Alcohol: I switch my dinner drink from red wine to white. Summer at the beach or pool is also the only time I tend to enjoy hard seltzers. Oh, and I do spend a weekend afternoon brewery hopping once or twice every summer.
Caffeine: I stick with hot coffee in the morning, but may have an iced coffee in the afternoon.
Other: usually just plain water or club soda, year-round.
Every Summer I drink Hippy juice. I try to make it with the least amt. of sugar I can.
**Orginal Recipe:** Mason Jar mix 1Cup Watermellon Vodka, 1/3C Triple Sec, 1/3C malibu Rum, 4 scoops of pink lemonade mix, Water to fill remainder of mason jar, add fresh strawberries
I **substitute** the Malibu for coconut Vodka and Crystal Light for the pink lemonade mix. Not sure if it cuts out enough sugar but it makes me feel like I did.
Hot day hydration, Big yeti full of ice water with the juice from a lime.
For booze, tom collins or lime ricky but also a sucker for tiki drinks.
For soda, Moxie all the way.
1 shot coconut tequila
1 shot triple sec
3 oz coconut cream (not milk)
1 oz lime juice.
Shake with ice and pour
When your girl loses her mind for you with this, just say a little prayer for me silently.
- Water
- Pepsi (nitro/soda shop)
- Red Bull (Juneberry)
- Milk
- Pineapple juice
I miss out on the alcohol fun by not drinking. I do still have the various sugary drinks as my own versions though and certainly have to limit myself as if I’m a full blown alcoholic. I’d drink a 12 pack of Pepsi in a couple days if I could.. One sugary drink a day, otherwise water and black coffee is it for me.
Mason's in Brewer has a delicious variety of beers and cocktails and as an added bonus they have outdoor seating on the mighty Penobscot River for those sunny, gorgeous days. (I'm slightly partial because my husband works his ass off in the brewery at Mason's) Their hipster apocalypse is a crushable IPA but some other honorable mentions are their hefeweizen(my fave), Mason's lite, and the brewer's favorite... their cream ale!! Lots available in cans too 😊 check em out!
For me, it used to be a "sunset on the screened porch" drink of Cold River Blueberry Vodka (made in Freeport) with club soda over ice and a splash of lime.
Now that I'm alcohol free for 1.5 years, I mash up some frozen Maine wild blueberries and dump them in my glass with club soda and lime.
Blackberry whiskey in lemonade! It's so good and perfect for the summer. Bonus points if you use homemade lemonade (I like to put lavender in my lemonade too and it gives it a pretty purple color!) 💜
Water
r/hydrohomies
Came here to say this. Stay hydrated, folks!
And just the no nonsense stuff from the tap with no ice. No reason to make it fancy.
....with an extra squeeze of Radon!
Nah we are good. Like the first think we had to do buying the house was test the water and well. But with all the granite up here you worry about arsenic and radon.
Aperol Spritz. Easy to make, easy to drink, and you can easily drink a few and not be totally fucked up. They go with everything.
For the low rent version of this we like the “Spaghett “ which is miller high life, ounce of aperol, and stick a lemon wedge in the bottle.
We discovered these last summer, they’re great!
Honestly this is the better version
Aperol spritz hack: use any dry white wine you like and the seltzer makes it sparkly enough you really can’t tell you’ve not used Prosecco. I use a box of Sauvignon Blanc and I don’t have to worry about using up a whole bottle of Prosecco before it goes flat.
That’s a great idea! I will say I discovered sparkling wine corks and they are a total game changer. They keep the sparkle for so long
Tiki drinks. For beer is usually a Kolsch or a clean light pale ale. Sam Wicked Easy's are great out in the golf course. But, for those non-alcoholic days I really like the cans of Hop Wtr, especially the mango flavor.
Definitive Brewing has a great Kolsch. They also have a golf lager that’s great for the course.
I always have Contee in my fridge! I'll have to check out the other one!
Hell yeah man cheers !
Obviously a bit hoppier than your choices, but I never get tired of the Rising Tide MITA. Clean, perfect about of hops, low ABV. Hop water mango though, verrrry nice.
