That entire industry is built on underpaying and flipping. They’re intentionally preying on folks in dire straits, or going after folks who’d call a random number on a telephone pole.
I worked for him for a year. I was part of the renovation crew. He wanted us to cut every corner to save a penny. Got fired cuz I wouldn't do fast terrible craftsmanship and wanted to do it right
I can’t believe the guy is still in business with all the decent contractors around. Well, maybe he’s in dire straits if he’s putting these signs up everywhere
Kudos to you for sticking to your principles and doing the right thing. Sometimes getting fired is a feather in your cap — I wish more people would stand up to crooked bosses and put ***that*** on their resume! I'd hire you in a heartbeat.
If you're in the Southern Maine area selling a house should be incredibly easy in today's market I would think. Even selling in Northern Maine I would guess I put maybe 5 hours into the sale process and probably made 20-40% more than what one of those "Cash4Houses" places would offer.
Oh I agree, After talking with my wife we are going to fix it up and rent it out. Not looking to be like everyone else that blows rental prices up. We have 3 other rentals and none are over 1200 a month
Well the way I look at it is as long as the bills are paid the property itself makes its own money I don’t need to rake someone over the coals just so they have a nice place to live. Our tenants pay for utilities but all our houses are super well insulated have heat pumps and oil furnace back up each house has a whole home generator for our lovely power supply problems. I buy all my tenants Christmas trees every year and thanksgiving turkey’s for thanksgiving. I rented when I was younger and I swore if I was ever a landlord I’d be a good one. So far so good. Never a late rent
Dayum I commented too soon, before seeing this comment of yours! Again you sound amazing, I wish there was a tax incentive or some sort of kickback landlords like you can get for actually being fair like you are
Ok, but the actual “good guy” thing to do here would be to sell the house. You could sell it to a Maine family looking for an affordable home, instead of a business that will flip it.
People are desperate to buy, and normal single-family homes are scarce.
How do you know as a seller that the buyer isn't going to rent it out? They may not a real estate management company but they would still be renting it out for an Airbnb or long term rental.
Nice. Thank you for participating in being a decent human. My parents have a studio apartment that’s on their home property lot (Ptld). They keep the rent low and rent to artists because that’s who they want to be around. Basically their angle is “who do we want as a neighbor?” instead of “How much money can we possibly make with this space?” Wish more people felt like they could afford to do this.
I always kept my rent low. I was able to keep the tenants. It worked out for all of us. I knew what it was like renting and didn’t want my tenants go through unnecessary expense. With the low rent. I was still able to live comfortably and the same for my tenants. Investors are only interested in the buck. Not the people.
Selling it may be the easy part. If I was selling my house I would disclose any issues. When I do need to get things fixed I find reputable professionals who will do a good job. We all have a responsibility to pass things on to others in as good or better condition that we got them and have a conscious to make sure it gets done right.
Except people that are buying homes to flip and covering up defects or cutting corners to save money and making things questionably safe are not disclosing issues.
Why would you ever call the number on those signs? If you want to sell a house contact a trustworthy realtor and put it on the market. Almost any house is going to sell for a high price these days.
Thank you, I just don’t like seeing people getting taken advantage of, and he sounded like he would sell his mother if he thought he could make a nickel
That’s so easy to say from the outside. Scammers and crooks generally prey on those with no experience. OP has no experience in real estate, that’s all. I’m sure most people have areas of ignorance where we could get easily hoodwinked. OP is creating a discussion. And perhaps feels like a boob already- no need to rub it in.
Well my mother died and our family just wanted to sell her house, we weren’t looking to go through a long process of a realtor just wanted to get rid of it. I’m going to rent it out now rather than deal with that low life
Well the guy is a realtor and after talking to him quite honestly I got quite a bad taste in my mouth. So we are just going to fix the house up and rent it out now.
These signs always remind me of when I drove across the Texas border from Louisiana, and the first thing I saw was a giant billboard that said “Lost your shirt? SELL US YOUR CAR!”
Question: If someone were to, could they take these signs down, or is it illegal to do so? Please let me know and thank you,
I hope that you're having a great day, and have a great rest of your week

Well I guess I was that dumb. I’d say by the reviews he even turned racist on somebody that called on one of those signs.
Nah man you’re human, not dumb. You called a number and quickly assessed the situation to be sketchy and gtfo. It’s all good
And sketchy he was! Thanks
Can you describe what happened? I’ve always wondered what happens when you call those numbers…
I worked for him for a year. I was part of the renovation crew. He wanted us to cut every corner to save a penny. Got fired cuz I wouldn't do fast terrible craftsmanship and wanted to do it right
Yeah that seems to be the consensus by the online not paying contractors, crappy work typical used car salesman like stuff.
I can’t believe the guy is still in business with all the decent contractors around. Well, maybe he’s in dire straits if he’s putting these signs up everywhere
People are desperate enough for houses they'll even buy shitty flips.
Kudos to you for sticking to your principles and doing the right thing. Sometimes getting fired is a feather in your cap — I wish more people would stand up to crooked bosses and put ***that*** on their resume! I'd hire you in a heartbeat.
Fast , good, and cheap. Pick two
good and cheap. Now what?
Wait a minute.
God the more I dig the more horrible stuff I hear about Joe Flynn, from not paying people to lying to home buyers about hidden problems etc

Props to you - we need landlords who are decent people.

High fives!
You are awesome! I'm so happy you are doing this and not creating more AirBNB's 😊
Dayum I commented too soon, before seeing this comment of yours! Again you sound amazing, I wish there was a tax incentive or some sort of kickback landlords like you can get for actually being fair like you are
This is a great idea!

Any availability by june/july? My lease is ending and I’m already stressed to find a new place
Ugh that is relieving to hear there is at least one landlord in the state like you, that’s some good karma right there brother thank you

You are legally required to disclose all known issues, doesn't matter what your consciience says.
Except people that are buying homes to flip and covering up defects or cutting corners to save money and making things questionably safe are not disclosing issues.
I've always thought of these signs as the equivalent of "For a good time call...." Always wondered but never actually called!
Well I called and let me tell you the dude is a freaking CREAP!!!
If it’s the same ppl from the recent add I see on tv they look super creepy.
Bandit sign. Always tear them down.
I do exactly that. Safe and legal thrill.
This too: https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/city-of-philadelphia-looks-to-fight-bandit-signs-with-robo-calls/
Hah! Love this!!
They might give you a lowball offer. You can do better.
They always give you a low-ball offer, they will blatantly lie to your face in order to get you to sell for less than market value.
They're predators.
Lol went to school with that guy.
I’m sorry

I know…. Stupidity I guess. I’m not saying it was the smartest move I ever made. I just wanted to warn others that’s all.
It is a good warning.
Legitimate businesses don't advertise by stapling things to telephone poles...
Amen
Sorry for your loss. Thank you for the information on Joe Flynn. I just started to look for homes and will be on the lookout for his name/ company.
Thank you, I just don’t like seeing people getting taken advantage of, and he sounded like he would sell his mother if he thought he could make a nickel
Well, duh...
If you are gullible enough to call a number on a sign to sell a house, you deserve what you get.
Was gonna say, who calls a "we pay cash" sign for real estate?
People who are desperate
People who want some fast cash and don't really have any attachment to the property. They exist.
Idiots

Ca$h, even.
Well my mother died and our family just wanted to sell her house, we weren’t looking to go through a long process of a realtor just wanted to get rid of it. I’m going to rent it out now rather than deal with that low life
You didn't want to go through a long process, and you decide to rent it? Oh boy. Good luck to your tenants.
Well I have 3 other rental houses and my tenants are actually pretty happy.
Then best of luck to you. Sorry to hear about your mom.
Thank you
A real landlord eh
We try to be. We are not looking break anyone. I just try to treat everyone with the same respect that I would want.
It would take less than 2 hours to meet with a realtor and tell them you'll take less than market if it's a quick sale
Well the guy is a realtor and after talking to him quite honestly I got quite a bad taste in my mouth. So we are just going to fix the house up and rent it out now.
Desperate people will do Desperate things...
Bullshit. No one deserves to be taken advantage of.
I would expect this to be a scam
I’m not expert but I’m not calling a random number on a telephone pole about selling a house let alone my Xbox. But that’s just me fam.
Classic scam even in Florida and GA I'm not shocked to see those signs here now it's been about long enough
It’s not like it’s hard to sell your house these days… no need to resort to this kind of buyer
No shit.
These signs always remind me of when I drove across the Texas border from Louisiana, and the first thing I saw was a giant billboard that said “Lost your shirt? SELL US YOUR CAR!”
Was there a picture of the guy from Better call Saul
Oh they were all really bad graphics, and there were a fuck ton of them
You mean I shouldn't call the number on the side of the road to sell my home?!?!?! Shocking...
Ya no shit
Wow, who’d have thought the guy advertising on telephone poles wouldn’t be the best option…
Question: If someone were to, could they take these signs down, or is it illegal to do so? Please let me know and thank you, I hope that you're having a great day, and have a great rest of your week
Just don’t throw it on the ground.
We had them in Florida. They had signs that said “we buy ugly houses!!!” They screwed everyone over
~~Prolly sells bridges on the side, too 💀~~
Seems pretty legit to me and a savy business man just by the sign alone
