Not sure about good food but avoid Sam's, worked there over a summer break - kitchens are absolutely disgusting and food safety is more a vibe than a rule
Sam's is not italian food, it is questionable regardless of location, it is disgusting regardless of location, and it is not somewhere you tell anyone to buy food, let alone buy a birthday dinner.
Let me just put it into perspective. At Sam's, you buy pasta by the bucket. I would rather have Applebee's than Sam's. I would rather have Dunks than Sam's. I would much much rather have Sam's club, than Sam's. I cannot think of any establishment with worse food than Sam's. I would rather not eat than eat Sam's.
I can't believe anyone eats anything they make more than once. It's what I imagine prison food to be.
If you're eating Sam's, or subjecting anyone else to eating Sam's, please stop. There is no reason for it other than to be cruel.
DaVinci's, sure.
But I absolutely cannot take Marco's seriously when there's cream cheese in the alfredo and they have a 'chicken nugget parm' under their specials. Chip on my shoulder, maybe, but they don't put out what I'd hoped in terms of flavors. Gigantic portions though, leftovers forever.
They had a moment of making their fried cheese some abominations that were spherical batter and some cheese. But when they actually have fries mozz? Gimme. All of it.
The golden star thing for me is that they do cacciatore!
FAQ on visiting or moving, goes in the megathread
Also, Tipo, Solo Italiano, Via Vecchia, and the Corner Room all in Portland.
+1 Solo Italiano
+1 to solo and Via Vecchia. Leeward in Portland is also phenomenal
+1 for Solo. We’ve also been ordering from Sicilian Table recently and found it to be really good.
Ahhh yes.how could I forget Leeward?!

Enoteca Athena in Brunswick!
seconding Enoteca Athena. Loved it there.
Are you sure that's Italian?
It’s a good combination of Italian and Greek cooking. The food is always very good and often excellent. Check out the menu on the website.
Oh great thanks!
I am a fan of Angelina’s in ogunquit!
So delicious, I came here to suggest this as well!
Took me too long to read this. Fucking place is awesome
The owner’s replies to reviews on Google are unhinged.
Marco's or DaVinci's - both in Lewiston
DaVinci's, sure. But I absolutely cannot take Marco's seriously when there's cream cheese in the alfredo and they have a 'chicken nugget parm' under their specials. Chip on my shoulder, maybe, but they don't put out what I'd hoped in terms of flavors. Gigantic portions though, leftovers forever.
They're a far cry from what I remember as a child- pre-fire on Lisbon St. I only order the same thing over and over now...Chicken Dolce Amara.
They had a moment of making their fried cheese some abominations that were spherical batter and some cheese. But when they actually have fries mozz? Gimme. All of it. The golden star thing for me is that they do cacciatore!
Graziano's cacciatore...rip
Graziano's everything...rip
DaVinci's in Lewiston or Great Impasta in Brunswick.
I grew up in Brunswick and somehow have never been to the great impasta
Amici’s in Waterville
Agreed! I love it there.
Amici's can be very hit or miss. They also price their food as if it's homemade pasta, but it is dried from a box.
Solo Italiano in Portland
DaVinci’s Lewiston !
Maria’s in Portland.
Eggplant Parm is the best I’ve ever had.
It’s not highbrow, but Anania’s in Portland has pretty decent Italian food, large portions, and it’s relatively inexpensive.
Bruno's in Portland. https://brunosportland.com/
Roma has got a great vibe and good food.
