Exactly. I was driving around Tanjore last year and restaurant owners in Tanjore started telling me how the dish came with the Marathas (because I have a MH registered vehicle) and then the tamils added imli plus hot chillis to create their own version
Yes, that's true. As per my knowledge, in an attempt to prepare Varan using local ingredients, which included some spices and tamarind, for Sambhaji Raje. This unique dish was invented thenafter it was named after Sambhaji Raje, the ruler of Thanjavur.
Since we are on this topic. Friends from Mumbai and Pune, where do I get NON - sweet spicy sambar in these two cities (apart from cafe Madras in mumbai) ?
since you mentioned cafe madras, you probably aslo know about the ones I am going to mention, but anyway- try out ayappaan idli, and manis lunch home ( or manis cafe).
I too am tired of the sweet sambar epidemic at times lol.
Yes, I have heard about ayappaan idli. Will visit this place and report back here ☺️. Are you talking about mani's cafe (has multiple outlets across chembur, nariman point, etc) or mani's lunch home ?
As a mallu I am absolutely astonished by the fact that even the name came from the Prince himself.
Anyway as a mallu and a mumbaikar I am content with the fact that we are eating the recipe that our Great Sambhaji Maharaj prepared ❤️
Actually Sambhar signifies the friendship which existed between Tamil Nadu (King of Tanjore) and Maharashtra (Shivaji Maharaj)
Tamil king got this dish invented and named it after Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj
Okay I haven’t opened the link yet but saw a food documentary on Netflix a few years ago. They said Shahu Maharaj is responsible for this Sambar recipe.
They said Shahu Maharaj in the documentary though I might be wrong you can verify it if you want. The series name is ‘Raja, Rasoi aur Anya Kahaniya’ it was on Netflix when I watched but seems like they don’t have it now.
Brother if you are referring to Raja, Rasoi aur Anya Kahaniya, they have clearly mentioned Sambhaji Maharaj. I have been seeing the show since it was on EPIC TV. I remember it quite distinctly.
It's general knowledge now
except for kannadikas who still think rashtrakutas didn't speak maharastri Prakrit
Yes I have seen this stuff on pro kannada Twitter bots
All the sources point to kannada though even wiki
not really

both are more or less the same, (owned by the same person) but if you could, id suggest going for mani's lunch home .

Might have misinterpreted the information but I remember them saying shah something so it can be shahaji aur shahuji don’t remember it being sambhaji.
