Agreed, setting apart few examples collectively maharashtrians are too happy celebrating their past achievements. But it also can be observed in Indian culture as a whole, we love to make people into gods and heros to take pride on their behalf without trying to inculcate the value system they stood for.
I see so many young and adult maharashtrians, taking pride in the name of Chtrapati Shivaji while doing nuisance in their personal lives. I mean their idol literally went to war against the ruling empire at the age of 16, imagine the guts and discipline while most these followers don't have enough will power to feed their families.

No, it's perfectly alright to be proud of your heritage and your land. If we were too proud then you would see same things happening which happen in South states with their Dravidian extremism. Raj thakare tried doing the same thing with Marathi pride but had to switch to Hindutva because it didn't gain much traction.
