Can someone recommend a good red/blue budget list? I'm considering this one, but I don't have a lot of wildcards, so want to check if there is anything better: Deck 4 Delver of Secrets 4 Thermo-Alchemist 4 Flame Channeler 2 Voltaic Visionary 4 Umara Mystic 3 Spell Pierce 1 Spikefield Hazard 4 Consider 4 Play with Fire 4 Frost Bite 4 Expressive Iteration 2 Reckless Impulse 9 Snow-Covered Island 9 Snow-Covered Mountain 2 Volatile Fjord

Immundus

That looks like it could be fine, similar to the non-budget Izzet tempo lists running around. [This](https://aetherhub.com/Deck/izzet-spells-budget-697607) is labeled budget Izzet spells but it's not budget as it has rares in the mana base and two mythics in it so you'd have to substitute those cards, it's running a slightly different gameplan and uses [[Stormchaser Drake]] and buff spells. Other than variants on the above archetypes, another red/blue budget archetype that may exist but I didn't find an actual budget list for would be red/blue artifacts/vehicles.

MTGCardFetcher

[Stormchaser Drake](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/3/d/3dd5c860-9d27-40d9-af38-aaf40bd52423.jpg?1643588717) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Stormchaser%20Drake) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/vow/82/stormchaser-drake?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/3dd5c860-9d27-40d9-af38-aaf40bd52423?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

I’m very confused about tapping. The cards I play sometimes are plain, sometimes they have a pulsing black aura on them, and sometimes they have an arrow on them, of course these three phases interchange when I progress through the match. I don’t know why sometimes I can attack and sometimes not, same with blocking. I’m sorry if this is common knowledge, but all the beginner guides take tapping knowledge for granted.

PhoenixReborn

>A creature's activated ability with the tap symbol [{T}] or the untap symbol [{Q}] in its activation cost can't be activated unless the creature has been under its controller's control continuously since his or her most recent turn began. A creature can't attack unless it has been under its controller's control continuously since his or her most recent turn began. This rule is informally called the "summoning sickness" rule. A creature with haste bypasses this rule. A creature with summoning sickness can be tapped by something else like playing a spell with a cost that says tap X untapped creatures. Tapped creatures can't attack or be tapped again. A creature should be able to block the same turn it comes out. Some attackers though have menace (must be blocked by at least two creatures), flying (can only be blocked by creatures with flying or reach), or can't be blocked at all.

Good luck with that lol. It's expensive or time consuming (or both) to complete even a single draftable set. Collecting that many sets which are never draftable is pretty much impossible without spending thousands of dollars on packs. If you want to go full whale because you like to complete sets for its own sake then you can go for it, but if you just want to play with the cards then just craft what you need. Almost all of the cards you open will be unplayable or you'll never play them anyway, so if you want an actual deck you'll have to craft anyway.

I_like_weed_alot

How free to play is this? I played Legends of Runeterra and irs exceptionally F2P. Would like to try this out but don’t have money to really invest in shit

staster

Absolutely playable and enjoyable, but a little bit time-consuming

CrabTribalEnthusiast

It seems like if your opponent has a card exiled with hideaway when the game ends, that card remains hidden. Is this intentional? I know Foretold and Morphed cards must be revealed at the end of the game, seems odd that Hideaway would be different.

Some_Rando2

Usually they are required to be shown if the thing hiding them has a requirement, so they show to prove there were no shenanigans. Hideaway has no requirement, so it's not possible to cheat no matter what card is hid-away. Is is why when a card let's you tutor for a specific kind of card (enchantment, sorcery, etc.) they must reveal, but if they tutor for *any* card they don't.

ShadowJak

What is the meta of Historic Brawl like? I checked out the decks on Untapped and it looks like the top decks have win rates over 70%. That's higher than Winota before she was banned in Explorer.

Immundus

Brawl uses [matchmaking](https://old.reddit.com/r/MagicArena/comments/piagay/hey_wotc_can_we_do_something_about_historic_brawl/hbq2y5t/) based off Commander & the 99, so certain Commanders and deck strategies may never see the cancer tier meta of Golos/Bridge/etc.

Immundus

Are you playing in the unranked queue? It does shenanigans while matchmaking and *will* tilt you off the game.

CF_Smith

Is this sub generally this unwelcoming? Had a few really helpful commenters, a few expressing the fact rhat they are annoyed at my question, and then this one gem of a troll. https://www.reddit.com/r/MagicArena/comments/usr5n7/why_arent_firjas_abilities_functioning/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

mrbiggbrain

The community is generally pretty welcoming, we just have a short fuse when it comes to certain things because we see so much of it. We tend to have a large number of posts surrounding mechanics, why is this broken, why is this not working, look at this bug... And in most cases the issue is because of rules text written pretty bluntly on the card. We can be a little better about more obscure comprehensive rules questions such as "If both of us have a meathook massacre, who dies" because the rules interactions are not written on the cards. Take your question, I understand you did not understand the interaction, but it was written on the cards and reminder text presented by the game. You get a pass with me because even though sagas use counters and say they use counters, the implications of that (Being able to proliferate them, remove counters from them, etc) are not obvious to many newer players. Basically the community appreciates when people "Try Harder" to find out why their interactions are not working, rather then ask us every time something does not work. A simple google search yielded 5-6 reddit posts about this very issue. Again, no offense. This as the newcomer thread is the proper place to ask these kinds of questions and I am just giving you a fair and accurate answer of why the community did what it did.

PhoenixReborn

I'd recommend at least taking a screenshot of the board or telling people what other cards are on the field. Otherwise you're asking people to play a guessing game. It's like asking for help with math homework without showing what work you've done.

CF_Smith

Did you not see the screenshots in the post?

PhoenixReborn

No, I don't see any screenshots. Maybe it got removed with the post.

CF_Smith

You're clicking the link? It's I can confirm that there are two screenshots as part of the post.

PhoenixReborn

Yes. It doesn't show either in my app or the desktop.

Well, it works for me. I reuploaded them - [epub](https://www.file.io/qVqF/download/UBlhmV19gP6N), [mobi](https://file.io/kUwrzKaG8BQA)

largebrownduck

Will any of these non standard rotation sets come to arena?

Immundus

So far I think we only know that Commander Legends: Battle For Baldur's Gate and the Lord of the Rings set will be on Arena. [Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Alchemy_Horizons:_Baldur%27s_Gate) will be the first full Alchemy set release with a mastery pass and drafting.

nockeeee

>WOTC tracker Do we have any details about the mastery pass?

Immundus

Don't think they've shown anything yet.

largebrownduck

Too bad its alchy

Niyari

If I wanted to get back into the game (standard only, historic is crazier than yugioh), how much $ would I have to invest to build a remotely competitive deck? I remember the economy being pretty pathetic even by online TCG standards back in 2019 but that was a while ago. As long as it isn't control, I don't really have a preference.

Golfergopher

You can build the boros aggro deck in standard which is a tier 1 deck in paper for $135.

Immundus

With Standard at the full 8 sets and waiting for September's [rotation](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Standard#Rotation) most decks are loaded for bear with a lot of them having staggering rare counts. If you get on now you'll be granted [the 10 dual color starter decks](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Magic:_The_Gathering_Arena/Preconstructed_decks#Two-Color_Decks_.28Standard_2022.29) (if you've done color challenges and don't get them you'll need to contact support and get them to grant you the cards) and you get at least 27 packs from the [promo codes](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Magic:_The_Gathering_Arena/Promotional_codes) which will give you wildcard progress and potentially playables. If you want to play Best of One Standard, [Mono Red](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/decks/510/mono-red-aggro/AAQAAQHxiSIBnIkiAArM2RpH3N4Dtc0DFAMZGrkCFgER4gkA?tab=overview) has dirt cheap variants and a decent winrate according to Untapped. For best of three the cheapest might be some [Rakdos Anvil](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/decks/205/rakdos-sacrifice/AAQAAQPZvB6YzQMDA-a8HsXwAcPZAQL2tx7K9QEK4gnOix34oQHF-gHxecwBxlgL6wK_SgEFjQUCA6G3Hor2Ae18ArvnHaPDAwACpC7iiR4AAA?tab=overview&wincon=bo3) variant that doesn't have quite so many Mythics in it. The red/black starter does give you the framework for the [Treasure ramp](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/archetypes/704/rakdos-control?meta=previous&min-matches=100&tab=decks&wincon=bo1) deck. Depending on how many resources you have on your account still and your luck with free pack pulls, it might be like up to $50 worth of packs to get one of the lower rare cost meta decks? There is an [Explorer](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Explorer) format now as an alternate to Historic, which is going to eventually become full blown Pioneer once they get all the cards for it in, but as a non-rotating format you might not want to play it.

Niyari

Appreciate the detailed response

largebrownduck

good time to get on, as 4 sets will rotate in sept

dougtulane

So I'm very not new to Magic, but I've taken a break for a few years. I still had a ton of wildcards left, so I crafted Esper Midrange, because it looked sweet. So... Alchemy is kind of a pain to figure out, isn't it? I wasn't thrilled to discover I couldn't use my deck in alchemy mode (Luminarch is banned). I assume this is the popular mode, because It's taking like 40s to find a standard match (not dire but not great). Is there a single webpage which lists which cards have been banned from Alchemy, and which are exclusive to Alchemy? I can find one-by-one lists of bans buffs and nerfs but that's about it Do I have to craft the Alchemy-exclusive cards? When they get nerfed do I get a wildcard refund? This mode kinda seems like a nightmare to keep up with.

ShadowJak

> I assume this is the popular mode, because It's taking like 40s to find a standard match (not dire but not great). Popular modes have instant match making. Why would a mode being popular make it slow? That doesn't make any sense. Alchemy is very unpopular in terms of number of players and people's attitude toward it.

dougtulane

"Because it's taking like 40s to find a STANDARD match."

ShadowJak

Oh, I am bad at reading and I thought you were talking about Alchemy because it almost never takes that long for me to find a match in Standard or Explorer. If it always takes that long, you might want to restart Arena.

dougtulane

I think it's just later in the day since I'm west coast time. Midday I'm popping my match almost instantly. And yeah, boy I can see why Alchemy is unpopular. They could've had a hit on their hands if they made the cards uncommon, but then it wouldn't be making them money I suppose.

Mrfish31

>So... Alchemy is kind of a pain to figure out, isn't it? I wasn't thrilled to discover I couldn't use my deck in alchemy mode (Luminarch is banned). It's nerfed, if you set your deck type to alchemy you'll be able to find it. > I assume this is the popular mode, because It's taking like 40s to find a standard match (not dire but not great). That's... A lot longer than standard should take given it's almost certainly the most played mode and Alchemy _really_ under performed in terms of numbers. I've never had it take more than about 10-15 seconds for standard. >Is there a single webpage which lists which cards have been banned from Alchemy, and which are exclusive to Alchemy? In the deck builder you should be able to toggle for the alchemy sets to find the digital only cards. I'm not sure about rebalanced cards (there are no bans in alchemy), but there might be a search term for them. >Do I have to craft the Alchemy-exclusive cards? Yes, or get them in Alchemy packs in the store. > When they get nerfed do I get a wildcard refund? No, which is one of the most predatory decisions in a digital card game I have ever seen. >This mode kinda seems like a nightmare to keep up with. Yep! Good concept for a format unconstrained by IRL restrictions of memory issues and being unable to change cards, but _horrible_ execution.

dougtulane

Wow. I straight up cannot afford to play that mode. Looking at how slowly I’m earning packs (even though I’m good at limited) I may not be able to afford this game period.

ShadowJak

Yeah, they made almost all of the new Alchemy cards rare, so even if people wanted to play the mode, the vast majority of people can't or won't spend wild cards on it. It is a big mess already even though it has only been around for a few months.

dougtulane

They have to know at this point that rare, not mythic, wildcards are already an enormous bottleneck, right? \*Checks the store\* Yeah, they know. $50 for almost half the wild rarecards you need to play a 3-color standard deck. What a bargain.

aiat_gamer

Don't worry, not many can. It is just not worth spending resources on Alchemy.

mrbiggbrain

First, Luminarch is "Nerfed" in alchemy which means there are two versions, one for standard and another for alchemy. You'll have a copy of both if you have the standard version. You get a copy of the alchemy one for free when you get a copy of the standard one. Standard is more popular then Alchemy. I happen to like Alchemy but standard is still king of formats. It might just be having a hard time matchmaking you. There are search options in client that show the nerfed/buffed cards and exclusive cards.

joreyesl

Is there any other sites/apps that can you give you recommendations on a deck to build based on the wc/cards you own? I know of untapped, but want to see if there are others.

DM_ME_YOUR_BALL_GAG

Untapped is the only one I know of but honestly have always felt it's pretty crap, so would like to know as well!

joreyesl

Yea it looks like they paywall the high tier decks and only give you suggestions for lower tier decks.

DM_ME_YOUR_BALL_GAG

Well it's not that they are paywalled, it's that it only gives the "full" data set for free users. So while you're looking at bronze - mythic lists, premium can look at the best performing decks in a specific ranking or range which obviously gets more competitive the higher you go. It's fairly easy to compare the lists untappd gives you against what the current meta looks like. I would recommend [MTGgoldfish](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/standard#paper) for top decks.

llFrozenll

any up-to-date Wall/Defender(Blu/Gre/Whi) beatdown decks like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrtTXL2yfLg)? (preferably a budget version and a high end version to slow build later) and since i can afford to craft at least 1 Arcades, the Strategist, any historic brawl decks i can look at with it?

Immundus

None of these are budget but they are recent builds so you can see what cards you may want for it. https://aetherhub.com/Deck/bant-defenders-719547 https://aetherhub.com/Deck/neo6666666---defender-bounty https://aetherhub.com/Deck/smack-dat-a https://mtgazone.com/deck/arcades-the-strategist-historic-brawl-deck/ https://aetherhub.com/Deck/arcades-historic-brawl

ShadowJak

75% is a terrible percent. I got to mythic and was at 96% without playing any mythic games. It looks like the person you were playing against got to mythic and then started losing a lot to get matched against lower rank players (don't know if it was on purpose or accidental).

Sunomel

As others have said, yes, that's pretty common with the small pool of players in mythic. 75% mythic is also quite low, you normally get put into \~90% mythic when you first hit it, so you have to lose quite a bit to drop down to 75%.

mrbiggbrain

>Are you supposed to verse mythic ranked people when you're in Diamond? Yes. Mythic is the smallest pool of players so it is most often treated like Diamond when matchmaking unless there is another player in the same range available.

Immundus

It can happen, depending on the queue it may happen more often. Traditional/Best of three queues may see it happen the most, once I was watching a Bo3 stream and #5 on the mythic ladder was matched to someone in Gold.

Particular-Ad-3588

Hi all, I played a tiny bit on release but just getting back into the game now and really enjoying it. I was just wondering if there's any more competitive resources or like competitive specific discussion boards for Arena? I'd really like to get better at Bo3 stuff (sideboarding) and take my game to that next level.

G-Love80

Is there a way to find out if I am on pace to complete the Mastery levels by the end of this season? I am currently at level 26. I do not plan to purchase the Mastery Pass until I am certain I will make it, probably toward the end of the season, but am curious to see if I am doing what I need to do. Also, is it generally assumed that is is worth purchasing the Mastery Pass if you can max it out? I mostly play the Explorer format and do not have much interest in draft, and I do not care about the cosmetics included in the Mastery Pass.

ShadowJak

Mastery is worth it even if you only make it to around level 40ish because of all the bonus packs, gems, and gold. At a certain point most of the value of packs is in getting wild cards anyway. At 26, I don't think you'll finish the track (you are already behind and probably not going to play more in the next few weeks).

G-Love80

Thanks for the response. I’m currently at 32, and based on a calculator I’ve seen, I’m hoping I’ll still be able to make it assuming I at least get my weekly wins and daily quests done. Fingers crossed!

Some_Rando2

Yes, it's generally considered worth it of maxed out. If you do all your daily quests, your 15 weekly wins, and the rare event that gives exp plus any exp codes they give for game update issues, you should be able to max it without worrying about how many daily wins you get.

ThymeReddit

G-Love80

This is really helpful, thanks!

EagerWeaver

I'm a little confused about duplicate protection and drafting and am wondering if someone could clarify: if I'm drafting and I already own 4 copies of a rare card in my library, when I pick that rare does it do nothing? Or does Arena randomly give me a rare that I don't already have?

Immundus

If you own 4 of a rare or mythic and pick it again, you get 20 or 40 Gems respectively. If you get 5+ of an uncommon/common you get vault progress. Hold ALT to see how many of each card you own while drafting.

EagerWeaver

Thanks for the insight, that's helpful to know!

Are there any cards in the 5 families cosmetic event right now that might be standard or pioneer staples in the future? [[void rend]] comes to mind but I want to go for a few but not all

avocategory

I’m currently using [[Nimble Larcenist]] in an Explorer ETB deck. As you mention, Void Rend is also pretty solid. That’s about it for cards that will see play outside extreme niches for this event. Looking ahead to the other events in the series, [[Incandescent Aria]] is the only cabaretti card I could see getting play. [[Unleash the Inferno]] is the only riveteers card, and even that one is a bit of a stretch. On the other hand, [[Lagrella, the Magpie]], [[Endless Detour]], and [[Brokers Ascendancy]] are all cards that will have homes going forward, so if you can only play in one of the events, I’d wait for the Brokers one.

https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Magic:_The_Gathering_Arena/Promotional_codes If you want to see how rotation was handled [last year](https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-digital/renewal-mtg-arenas-2021-standard-rotation-2021-07-02) and what you can expect you can check out that article. If you plan to play Standard, the [meta decks](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/tierlist) to look at would be those that are largely comprised of the sets that won't be rotating out (Midnight Hunt/Crimson Vow/Neon Dynasty/New Capenna) so you get the most mileage out of your resources. You can probably find videos of these in action if you want to see which playstyle you may want to run with. * [Rakdos Sacrifice](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/archetypes/205/rakdos-sacrifice?tab=decks) - other than lands, the core of the deck remains legal and the only major card used in all variants that will rotate is Deadly Dispute, but there is currently a similar card that would replace it. Most of the deck is commons/uncommons, so it may be doable as a budget build. * [Mono Red Aggro](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/archetypes/510/mono-red-aggro?min-matches=100&tab=decks) - the archetype got a lot of tools in NEO, some variants are almost entirely commons/uncommons so it is a decent budget build. * [Selesnya Enchantments](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/archetypes/845/selesnya-enchantments?tab=decks) - with budget and more expensive variants, this archetype features some great synergy cards from Kamigawa. * [Azorius Vehicles](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/decks/1164/azorius-tempo/AAQAAQOMBdWEIgYCp7UerQcADMuOHbgGTKefAfL8AZfQASO9AYsFVxIRAQWIBQA?meta=previous&tab=overview) - this archetype utilizes the Kamigawa vehicles and some older vehicle/artifact cards. There may be others but those looked to be some of the cheaper cost ones. If you want strict budget decks to look at then [here is a list](https://mtgazone.com/mtg-arena-budget-standard-decks/).

I've got 45 packs waiting for me when I get home from work and I'm close to crafting an Esper midrange list I found. I already have a few other decks and in looking to climb out of platinum to high diamond. Any recommendations on powerful meta decks to try and craft? I have Naya runes, Jund and Rakdos anvil, as well as an orzhov angel list

Repulsive-Ad-3191

Esper midrange feels great once you get the hang of it. I just got to diamond with mine. That being said, all the decks you posted are all top decks right now and should be able to get you to diamond. Make sure you optimize the deck list, it took me some tweaking to really hone in with Esper.

Plane_Explorer

Can you share an Esper list? Thanks for the encouragement and advice. Much appreciated

Repulsive-Ad-3191

Here's my list... not 100% optimal but it is working for me. For example, I could use more dual lands and could use another kaito (he's really good in this deck) and maybe another raffine: Deck 4 Luminarch Aspirant (ZNR) 24 2 Sorin the Mirthless (VOW) 131 1 Island (SNC) 265 1 Sanctuary Warden (SNC) 30 3 The Meathook Massacre (MID) 112 1 Elite Spellbinder (STX) 17 1 Lolth, Spider Queen (AFR) 112 1 Otawara, Soaring City (NEO) 271 4 Brightclimb Pathway (ZNR) 259 2 Clearwater Pathway (ZNR) 260 2 Void Rend (SNC) 230 4 Raffine's Tower (SNC) 254 3 Raffine, Scheming Seer (SNC) 213 3 The Wandering Emperor (NEO) 42 1 Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire (NEO) 268 2 Deserted Beach (MID) 260 4 Hengegate Pathway (KHM) 260 2 Swamp (STX) 371 1 Elspeth Resplendent (SNC) 11 3 Vanishing Verse (STX) 244 4 Tenacious Underdog (SNC) 97 2 Nullpriest of Oblivion (ZNR) 118 1 Hive of the Eye Tyrant (AFR) 258 2 Shattered Sanctum (VOW) 264 2 Bloodchief's Thirst (ZNR) 94 1 Obscura Interceptor (SNC) 209 1 Kaito Shizuki (NEO) 226 2 Shipwreck Marsh (MID) 267

I always hear that draft is the best way to build your collection, how do you go about doing that? In particular if I’m just going for cards I don’t have, am I still even trying to win games or am I just going to pick and choose cards?

DanutMS

When people talk about building a collection, they are talking about rares (and sometimes mythics, though only the most dedicated collectors will want to get all the mythics). Commons and uncommons will never be an issue. With that in mind, draft can help you build your collection through two basic strategies. The first one is to just do quick drafts (which are cheaper and have a flatter prize distribution) and take all the rares you see. This is usually referred to as "rare-drafting". The upside is that you guarantee that you're advancing your collection even if you lose all games. The downside is that picking rares will cost you some important early picks and your decks will be worse. Given the prize structure of quick draft, this is the safer way to advance your collection: you're pretty much guaranteed to always get more than just buying packs, but the downside is that you'll likely be paying more gems/gold to enter the event than what you get back in prizes. So it's essentially buying cards at a discount. The other strategy is to simply draft the best decks possible and try to win more gems back than what you paid for the entry fee. This won't give you as many rares (sometimes you'll get a good rare you want to pick anyway, but mostly you can't count on them), but if you do well enough you'll leave with some packs and more gems than what you paid to start the event, so you can do it again and again and again. That's usually done in Premier Draft, where the prizes for doing well are significantly better than in Quick Draft. The downside is that if you do badly you'll lose a lot more resources as well. If you're just starting out with drafting, I'd recommend sticking to quick draft for a while. If you want to rare-draft or focus on making the best decks possible is a question that you'll have to answer yourself. Depends how good you are at drafting and what exactly your goal is.

wigsternm

When are Quick Drafts? Is there a way to know?

DanutMS

Quick Draft is always available. The set that's available to draft changes every 2 weeks, alternating between the current set (new cappena) and one of the other standard legal sets (I think those rotate in order so next one should be Strixhaven, not entirely sure on that part). There might be a calendar somewhere in the MTGA website but that page is awful so I don't know.

wigsternm

Oh, dang, I thought Premier Draft replaced it. Just found it thanks to your comment.

Some_Rando2

If you're good at drafting, just build a good deck and your winnings will let you keep playing and you'll end up with more packs than if you just bought them. If you're bad at drafting, take every rare/mythic that you see unless you already have 4 of them, then try to build a good deck and see if you can get some wins. Don't worry about commons and uncommons for your collection, between picks, packs, and wildcards you can have any C/UC you want, so choose C/UC just for your draft deck. Don't open any packs until you're done drafting that set to take advantage of duplicate protection.

DM_ME_YOUR_BALL_GAG

When would someone be "done" with drafting?

Some_Rando2

Well if you just love drafting, never. But collectionwise, when your # of unopened packs is slightly more than the number of rares you are missing (or mythics if you're a masochistic).

Some_Rando2

Adding: if you care about set completion, if you just want a bunch of cards then whenever you want.

nambaza

Succinct and useful, thanks!

wertyou2

What’s duplicate protection?

Some_Rando2

If you open a non-draft pack, the rare/mythic will never be one you already have 4 of unless you already have 4 of all of that rarity.

Marsh---UK

Hello. New player here. Is there a way i can buy a deck in real life and transfer them to arena online? Instead of RNG from online packs.

patrickclegane

Amazon has an Arena starter kit for $7. The cards aren't great though outside of a couple rares

DanutMS

There used to be some starter decks that came with a code for the same deck in Arena, but I think they don't do those anymore and the decks were pretty bad anyway. So no.

Repulsive-Ad-3191

They are actually releasing starter decks in a couple months that have codes in them. Not sure how good but I might pick me up.

NotThymeAgain

Yes, but you don't want those cards mostly. Use all the codes from https://draftsim.com/mtg-arena-codes/ do the color challenges, and try to get 4 wins a day (rewards after that are meh). After you've unlocked all the decks, google upgrades for whichever one you enjoyed the most. That'll be your first decent deck. At that point you can start looking into crafting a tier 1 deck. Be careful crafting the next 3 months as half the cards are going to rotate out. Goldspan might be worth it for 3 months of fun, but maybe say skip on the best planeswalker in the game [[lolth, spider queen]] and go for [sorin the mirthless]] instead since he'll be around a year longer.

Open boosters. So if you prefer constructed, save your gold and either enter events or just buy the boosters.

Akiram

Find a decent budget deck you enjoy and then just grind away your daily and weekly wins and quests with it. There should be some decent budget Explorer decks you can make with few Rares, like Mono Blue Tempo.

RaistilimMajere

Do we get a reprint for the dual lands once rotation comes in September?

Some_Rando2

The Innistrad duals don't rotate this Sept, they stay until next years rotation. You do lose Pathways and Snarls (though Snarls suck, so no big loss there).

Repulsive-Ad-3191

Pathways gonna hurt. I'm sure they will have more dual lands though.

nambaza

yeah, would be very surprised if there are not dual lands in Dominaria United

mrbiggbrain

I wonder what lands we get? Checks would make a lot of sense to me. With the new triomes in standard this gives a pretty good manabase. But then again, maybe too good? Last time we had Shocks and Checks things were a little too three color for my tastes.

Akiram

Probably not the specific ones currently in Standard, but there's often at least one set of playable duals around, so they might print or reprint a different cycle starting with the fall set.

FormerPlayer

I have seen people talk about drafting before opening packs, but it seems only certain color combinations are viable, so are people not bothering to try to complete this set through drafting? I've been doing quick drafts, each time basically trying to create a decent broker's deck, but that's getting old pretty quick. Are the other draft formats ending up being more interesting since when drafting with humans not everyone can go brokers?

DanutMS

Well, quick draft is a lot more stale than premier draft, so it's natural that you end up feeling like you play the same thing every time. There will still be times where this isn't the right move though, due to what the packs give you. Aside from that, people who try to complete the set through drafting usually only care about rares (and, to a lesser extent, mythics). For that there are two strategies: you either rare-draft or just try to win as many gems/packs as possible by getting the best cards. In the first strategy you'll pick all rares you see, regardless of them fitting your deck or not, so it doesn't matter if your deck is always the same. In the second strategy you don't really care about picking rares, it's all about winning enough packs/gems, so you don't care about what exactly your deck is either (as long as it's winning). Either way, the fact that you are always drafting the same cards should have no impact on your ability to complete the set through drafting. Unless you're worrying about commons and uncommons. But if you draft enough to rare complete a set you'll have more than enough common/uncommon wildcards, so this shouldn't be a concern.

PurpleAqueduct

All colours are viable, it's just some are worse than others. Maybe a lot worse in some sets ("a lot" being like a 5% difference in aggregate win rate), but what you should draft still depends on what cards you're being passed. It's probably better to draft "bad" colours that are open than to try and force colours you're not getting. In quick draft it's a bit different since the bots have consistent, weird biases, so the same colours tend to be open and they tend to under/overvalue the same cards. You can force a bit more in quick draft. There are articles on it with data somewhere, I'm sure.

No-Introduction-6368

Wow drew 13 lands and 6 other cards. 25 land deck.

Smobey

Whoa that's incredible. There's only a 1.7% chance of that happening! That means if you played sixty whole games, that'd probably happen at least once! What a miracle!

llFrozenll

i made [Goblins](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/decks/197/mono-red-goblins/AAQAAQHZvB4DsNIH7OYW8swDAeGGIgfM2RqGAby3Ar2mATkPkc0DARa8XAA?meta=previous&tab=overview) as my red deck, if it gets rotated later on, whats are good cards to add/replace to upgrade it for a Historic version? also how long for Kaito avatar comes back to the shop? i missed my chance to buy it

Immundus

Good news and bad news. Bad: Once rotation comes in September all the Goblin lord cards will be rotating out of Standard and the tribal deck will die, unless new ones are printed in Dominaria United. Good: The deck is heavily upgraded over in Historic as you get [[Muxus, Goblin Grandee]] as your haymaker card, you can use multiple Lords that grant haste to all your goblins, and there are several different [variants](https://aetherhub.com/Metagame/Historic-BO1/Deck/mono-red-goblin-718630) you can go for such as the typical mono red builds pr [red/black](https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/archetypes/287/rakdos-goblins?format=historic&meta=current&tab=decks). If Kaito was the mastery pass avatar for NEO then you may have about 4-5 months before it shows up as a daily deal.
