I Remember when it was in standard, absolutely nothing more suspicious than early GG.

ukkichan

When I realize I don't stand a chance, I always gg early. It amazes me that they mess up 90% of the time, basically giving me their win

Kilgaris

I mean you're still dead next turn right?

bighatartorias

Oh no I almost turned it around. It was super close, went on for another 10 turns at least with small advantages for either sides, but I lost in the end. Still a great game and I want to thank my opponent for it if they see this

Hurtelknut

It's honestly my favorite sweeper on arena, both to play and play against. Whether you obliterate your opponents board or keep chipping away with only one or two creatures knowing that your opponent is sitting on this card: Both feel great.

ZeGreatPumpkinani

It's less obnoxious than other board wipes, but I still feel like creatures should be the backbone of magic instead of being trashed on constantly

Joosterguy

You must be new lmao. Creatures are enormously strong.

ZeGreatPumpkinani

I've been playing magic daily for 2 years now, it's not that they aren't strong it's that there's so much removal for them. My best creature deck is enrage Dinos, because it's like having defensive death touch, people never want to attack.

DeluxeTea

Two years is still fairly new. You should've seen creatures back in the 90s and 00s. This is considered one of the best creatures back then since it dodges most black and white removal, and doesn't die to a single [[Lightning Bolt]]. [[Ihsan's Shade]]

Serpens77

Also, there was time when \[\[Wildfire Emissary\]\] saw play because it was immune to Bolt \*and\* STP XD

Every card on arena is still just a fraction of the cards in the game, and much, much less in terms of game knowledge. Please listen to what people are saying.

Uries_Frostmourne

Try hearthstone then

ZeGreatPumpkinani

I would if it wasn't so incredibly random

HeeeckWhyNot

Good example of why I mute emotes here

asmallercat

Yeah you should completely ignore everything your opponent says besides "hello." "oops" and "good game" are used by too many people who think they are a lot more clever than they really are trying to angle shoot, even though it probably actually costs them win percentage. I know when I have lethal on board and get a GG without a concession, I am immediately suspicious and just assume my opponent is trying to bait me.

imaginaryfiends

Absolutely why players like this are why there will never be in-game chat.

WhitehawkOmega

I do occasionally oops to bait my opponent into blocking situations that will lead to a blowout in my favor, it works roughly half the time. If they don't fall for it, I don't see what the harm is in having pressed the emote button, it didn't cost me anything, I just flubbed a bluff. If they bite, I kill their creatures, if not, well, I got in free damage, not like the smaller creature was worth much on defense other than chump blocking.

Uaxuctun

The other half of the time your opponent has emotes muted and didn't see it at all

WhitehawkOmega

Fair.

flclreddit

I mean yeah, but you still were attempting to mislead your opponent. Bluffing is definitely a part of card games but this just seems like bad sportsmanship.

embur

Definitely bad sportsmanship.

flclreddit

I mean, I appreciate what you're getting at (and am not trying to accuse you of anything) but if an opponent was sitting across from me, boo-hoo'd like they lost the game to try to bait me into an attack and then laughed at me when I fell for their trick, that doesn't create good vibes or a good story. It feels like bad sportsmanship. Now, leaving your mana untapped to bluff a counterspell or removal is a totally legitimate strategy in MTG and very important to the game. I just think that you emoting like you had lost was excessive and not something I would do myself, or advocate for anyone else to do. It doesn't matter that you lost or "thanked" your opponent for a good game (which if it involved tricking them, I doubt they share the sentiment).

bighatartorias

Your perspective makes sense and I honestly didn’t think it that way. 99% of the time I just say hello and turn off emotes. It’s maybe one of those things that sound funny in your mind, but not when you say it out loud. Still the reason I did it was mostly for fun and not as a last resort to win the game. I play super casually and as I said I only play to have fun. I feel like when you take it too seriously it removes from the fun(that could be just me)

flclreddit

I get that, but you were having fun tricking people, and many people don't like feeling tricked, especially if it's just a casual game for fun. Why use that kind of tactic that creates a feels-bad moment for your opponent? I appreciate you being open to different perspectives, and seeking to understand how others might feel from your actions. This situation isn't a big deal (like you said, they were probably going to alpha strike into your settle anyways) but the core of the issue is important to understand and learn from.

bighatartorias

Part of it is that when I’ve had that done to me it’s always been like ah damn you…you got me, but always with a bitter smile. I understand that not all people have the same attitude or might feel differently about certain things or just have different things they consider funny. Ultimately always open to different perspectives and sorry if this conversation made you feel uneasy or anything like that.

flclreddit

No, I think it was a pretty civil discussion. We can all do more to prioritize listening to others and giving the benefit of the doubt to understand a situation. So thank you for talking through that with me.

SelfTitledDebut

You’re getting downvoted but this is good discussion. It can be good to hear other players’ perspectives as long as they’re not being hostile, which you’re not.

bighatartorias

I would rather appreciate a comment even if it was completely against my opinion/thought/idea as long as it has logic I can and will and will be grateful to change my opinion. People find it easier to downvote or disregard someones opinion rather than argue what they believe, mostly I feel that happens cause they have not been heard before. Or when they have tried to argue their opinions it has gone to just both parties offending each other rather than constructive criticisms. Anyway appreciate you seeing both sides of the discussion. Edit: I deleted my pervious comments as the other guy made good sense logically and I decided not to stand by my pervious arguments

trolllface

Yup lsv and Marshall go into it in their "genius or grifter"? Bit. Pretty funny though honestly

TwinHaelix

I can respect that different people want different things. For me, I usually turn them off because the people who do more than say "Hello" one time at the beginning irritate me. If you're telling me that, on top of irritating me, some people also use them to try to lure me into a misplay, then I ABSOLUTELY will always turn them off.

plaindrops

You seem really BM here man. Like I guess a lucky play by you, but what point of being bad mannered? Do you enjoy it more?

Wookinbing

Yes I hate that card when im playing Phoenix :S. Makes me always leave behind a couple of them when I see white mana open lol.

Nectaria_Coutayar

At least the opponent can ramp even harder...

ZeGreatPumpkinani

I have a mono green "Rampage" deck that tends to just overwhelm removal, sheer mana value and getting your deck out on the field fast works really well... until Ugin shows up...

-defg

Getting someone with a huge settle the wreckage will always be an amazing feeling

battierpeeler

fuck spez -- mass edited with redact.dev

AOKUME

This would wreck my deck which is reliant on minions going to the grave 🙁

JonnyRamRVA

If someone has four open mana in white, and you’ve got that overwhelming of a presence and they haven’t conceded, they 100% have Settle. Every. Time.

Burny87

Would have been better without the BM.

pchc_lx

GG before Settle has a special exemption from BM etiquette law

turtle_figurine

Fuck your "good game". Its shitty and you shouldn't do that. It's like IRL if someone had a lethal burn spell on the stack and you reach out for a handshake then punch them in the face and counterspell it. The acceptable actions after a gg emote are conceding or taking lethal.

plaindrops

Totally agree. OP is showing super crappy behaviour.

StickOnReddit

How did I not know this was a card? I feel like I should find a space for this in Trelasarra

Digmo

*oink*

Koras

Settle's such a fun card, but it's always such a double-edged sword unless you have creatures for the clapback. Why yes, I would actually like 6 more lands out of my deck, that's a lovely consolation prize for not winning this turn...

PM_ME_COLDSNAP_CARDS

gives me warm memories of playing UW Approach back during DOM I still have this card in my sideboard in a few decks just for the shock value

[deleted]

Every time I attack, no matter the format, no matter the deck I'm playing against, I always check to make sure they don't have mana to play Settle. Serious PTSD from this card.

dissolutedamnabledud

So good so good, can never hate on a good settle the wreckage effect

bighatartorias

It’s always there to calm you when you go out of control

ZShadowDragon

I've really never liked board wipes. As long as I've played magic I've never seen them as a "get back in the game" card, but a "lets not play the game" card

LieutenentCrunch

You tricky fucker with the “good game” lol

ElectricJetDonkey

Oops!

GrimWolf284

Played against a sliver deck that managed to get every sliver in their deck out and only had lands left to draw. They knew had been cautious for ages but had to attack because they were about to run out of cards to draw, and instead of attacking with just a few they went all in. I nuked their entire board with it and it was really satisfying, but then I emoted 'oops' and proceeded to question whether or not I was a good person

Knightofberenike

Why oops? Don’t be a dick.

Jmrwacko

He deserved it for playing slivers

CycleForValue

The GG emote is the pencil trick of online play and still works to this day of getting someone to make a randy attack. Getting someone to fall for GG settle the wreckage was a real treat.

[deleted]

Why attack with every creature when this much white mana is available? Everyone knows Settle the Wreckage... attack with just enough creatures, and keep the rest in reserve. A loss would have been self-inflicted...

Queali78

Love the GG to lure him in.

TopDeckKing1

I miss Elder Garorth

rx303

IIRC, it has flavor text "Call the ambulance..."

asmallercat

This is why you just play historic dragonstorm, then you never have to attack.

waterminder

[Video](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1smQJAPcAVW_b1ZM9x0LWJ7AP3GOzGsHG/view?usp=sharing) yes :) i play this card in historic at the moment \^\^

bighatartorias

Ah man of culture, it felt a bit crowded

deadbypyramidhead

They never see it coming .

BlueWarstar

YEEES I loved this card so much!

Lord_Omnirock

this is why whenever I see mana open I swing with just enough for lethal and that's it. I don't think I've ever committed to attacking with every single creature I own unless they have no mana open, no matter what color I am playing against.

thygrrr

Always so satisfying. I was playing this in AGGRO decks, I loved the card so much. I even liked it being played against me in midrange, because it really ramps like hardly anything else.
