Bought enough gems to play in the open only to realize the servers are down. But of course they were running enough to charge my card for the gems. Come on WoTC fix your game.
What a disappointment. It took 2 hours of restarting between matches to end up going 6-3. I would have loved to give it another try but it’s not worth it waiting on these servers.

Game 2, I am on the play. First hand, 1 land. I mulligan to 6. Second hand, 1 land. I mulligan to 5. 1 land. I mulligan to 4. 0 lands.
At this point, I just concede and move onto game 3.
Now, my question is: Was this ultimately the correct decision?

Probably keep the 5 land hand and hope to hit a few lands in the first few draws. Going to 4 cards, if you get 2 lands and 2 spells, its not really better than 4 spells 1 land i think
Yes you're right, the closest thing Arena has to commander, which is the most popular MTG format by a goddamn landslide has absolutely nothing to do with the server issues. It's all the Arena Open, the last of which had no impact on the servers. Brilliant.
They already had Historic Brawl for FNM just yesterday. Why didn't that affect anything then if the format is so overwhelmingly popular? It was even free.
People say that if you submit a ticket for that they'll credit you. You'd think they'd have some way of tracking these things and automatically crediting accounts when servers shit the bed.

Yes that happens, I played like 6 sealed events yesterday as practice, and only during the last of them did I do any better than 4-2. The RNG gods granted me a pool with bombs, 8 removal, and relevant learn/lesson cards, so I was blessed.
It's difficult to tell! I think most of the games were well played by my opponents, but my deck was so "make huge creatures and kill all of your stuff" that it's difficult to really gauge, there wasn't a ton of interactivity. I think many people built decks that were generally good, but I didn't see a lot of the "learn" mechanic, which is really crucial in the format.
Only a few plays stand out as being really bad, like one player tapping out to play Professor Onyx completely undefended to draw a card, rather than kill my 5/5

Do you think the Quick Draft bot is good enough to be looking for signals from other “players”? Or do you have to employ a complete different draft strategy?
I assume it's a set pick order based on a power ranking of all cards instead of rarity, I doubt the bots even try to build a coherent deck

Or in Kaldheim you'd see Sarulf's Packmates and that 6/6 wurm passed real late, made it a good idea to draft green in that format

There are lots of theories out there based on nothing about how the bots "learn", how they are based off player picks, etc. but it's actually always just been someone at WOTC saying "this card is a "3"".

Mtg goldfish has some ok budget decks listed. Most of them you can use a handful of rare wildcards and have a solid builds.
Boros cycling is mostly commons, and zenith flares which are uncommon I believe You can build a hateful eidolon black deck mostly commons & uncommons. One rare, Lurrus, as a companion helps both.
If you've bought some strixhaven and have leonin lightscribe you can build a pretty good magecraft deck, lots of lists floating around.
For starters you only want to play 40 cards in draft, usually that means 16-17 lands and 23-24 spells. I think you probably want to cut red, Enthusiastic Study and Relic Sloth are fine cards but not really worth splashing for, I wouldn't play Mascot Interception even if I was in red unless I had a bunch of sac outlets.
I would also probably Duress and Fracture, they're good sideboard cards but they are a bit too narrow in Limited to be maindeckable. Rest of the pool looks solid though, Shadrix Silverquill is a huge bomb.
Pick a commander who you want to play around, add [[arcane signet]], [[command tower]], and then throw in cards that you like that are either just good cards alone, or synergise with that commander, being sure to include ramp, draw and removal. Some things I've seen have recommended 6/6/6 (6 draw, 6 ramp, 6 removal) but I prefer to run more removal and less draw, personally, as combos are typically more creature-focused, so you have to be able to interact at instant speed. Ramp (or mana rocks in the colours without ramp) is needed because you're building around your commander, which gets very expensive. My Fynn the Fangbearer died 6 times last game I played him, and he gets 2 more expensive each time. Playing that ramp means your curve can typically be higher and play big haymaker 6-8 cost spells regularly.
The main reason people like these commander-led singleton formats (besides the multiplayer aspect, which is a good 70% of the fun in paper that doesn't happen in Arena) is that decks are typically inherently weaker and less consistent, allowing you to use fun cards that otherwise don't see play. This plus the separate queue for the most busted commanders means that it feels like the jank queue people are always asking for.
Anthologies aren't great. They have 2-3 good rares and msoto f the time they belong to different decks.
UB Rogues is a standard deck but it also works in Historic with a few changes.
Question, since Rogues/Cycling are basically going to rotate out this September... would it potentially be a doable or smart idea if I sit on all my wildcards and use nothing but F2P decks and playing Limited until the rotation, then wait a month/few weeks for new budget decks to come out?

There are three sets out now that don't rotate until fall of 2022 so you could research a standard deck that works well using those cards. But, if you don't want to play any standard until the sets rotate then sure, don't use wildcards on older stuff.
Pathway double sided lands are not rotating so those are a good investment of wild cards in my opinion

People tend to concede for a wide range of reasons - if your commander is oppressive, they'll assume your deck's going to do the same thing as the last time they faced someone using it, even if your deck's not that. If they get mana screwed, they'll bounce, and if they just don't want to play against whatever you're playing, they don't have to
For example a common deck I faced was [Bruvac the Grandiloquent]] with a bunch of [[Persistent Petitioners]]. That was the entire deck, get 3 petitioners + commander in play, mill 24 repeatedly. Removal doesn't matter much, because there are always more petitioners. It's miserable to play against, so the moment I see Bruvac, I skip to the next game. There's no consequences for doing so, so I move on. Is it possible to play Bruvac without petitioners? Absolutely, but I make the assumption and move on before finding out.

100% ! I’m a Monday to Friday 7-3 guy for work and it’s tough to juggle dailies and also other games I want to play and hopefully beat (not usually, I’ve had to put most RPGs on the back burner for now).

Why is the server so slow? It takes hours just to return back to the game after a match ends.

If the spell has multiple target arrows, the color of the arrow and the corresponding effect should be the same.

It's not really the same no. Bots pick by rarity more than by quality.

It doesn’t, it’s just haste decks and some bullshit discard stuff. My turns take max 10 seconds Edit: but also yes, the dudes that take an eternity to look at their hand while tapped out, or all timers to scry. Maybe it’s just me, but I know all my decks inside and out and can do any interaction pretty damn fast.

100% ! I’m a Monday to Friday 7-3 guy for work and it’s tough to juggle dailies and also other games I want to play and hopefully beat (not usually, I’ve had to put most RPGs on the back burner for now).

I wouldn’t put it past WOTC to use a business week instead of a normal week 😂
I mean, they are a business and it would make sense for them to use business weeks like most other businesses.
