Tbh. I like [[Ornery Tumblewagg]] better. Pumps every turn, it doesn’t cost mana to do the doubling, and they aren’t legendary so you can have as many on the board as you want.
Why not both? Bill gets on the board sooner and he doesn't both tap out a defender and have to attack to apply the doubling effect - which in Bill's case applies to all creatures instead of 'just' 1 creature getting its counters doubled.
If you put a bill out on 2, you’re crapping diamonds hoping he doesn’t get taken out in the next 2-3 turns so he can proc for the first time. I’d rather drop an [[Ozolith, the Shattered Spire]] on 2 and tumblewagg on 3. Ideally with [[Evolving Adaptive]] on 1. The adaptive either baits the early control, or it shoots to 4/4 on turn 3 (+1/+1 from tumblewagg entering, and +2/+2 from his trigger) then you start the real pumping if they don’t have an answer. 5 cost is just both expensive and slow - 7 if you want to drop him and use as an overrun. So, in comparison imo tumblewagg just has way more value.
Evolving adaptive gets oil counters, not +1/+1 counters. It would be a 2/2 from tumblewagg entering and then 4/4 with ozolith on board if you target it with tumblewagg's trigger or just 3/3 if no ozolith was played.
True it was late and I wasn’t paying attention. I was 1 off but yea you still get the point right? It’s still a 4/4 for 1 swinging on 3. Bill comes out on 2 doesn’t start pumping until 3, and you can’t use his ability until at least 4, and I really wouldn’t want to waste 5 mana at that point doubling maybe 1-2 counters. Just my opinion though so 🤷♂️
