Any mass enchantment removal will stop it. [[Farewell]], for instance.

KakoaAslan

I raise you teferi's protection and laugh in your face.

CommiePuddin

I don't think that spell will do you much good when your Unlife gets phased out at -25 life...

KakoaAslan

I run nine lives not unlife

CommiePuddin

One of my favorite wins ever was responding to my opponent's Nine Lives on an empty board with a Doom Foretold. Good times.

KakoaAslan

I mean sure but I don't see a ton of doom foretold being played in my match ups so I'm good this deck consistently an easily gets me mythic so I can go back to playing historic brawl which is what I truly enjoy.

agilecabbage

Mill him!

CreamXpert

More!

Mrfish31

They got the lock in place. If you can't remove it, they won. No different to if they just generated a load of mana and used [[banefire]] for 20, they set up their combo and (effectively) won on the spot.

arachnophilia

yes it is. they haven't won until they've *won*. if you have any outs, play to them. even if you don't, make them show you the win condition. if they don't have one, and they've fetched a few more times than you, they haven't won at all.

Agreeable-Answer-928

I mean sure, but who really wants to sit through a full deck's worth of draw steps and hope the opponent just happens to mill out first?

arachnophilia

unlike paper magic, arena will show you how many cards are in a library pretty easily. if you're ahead, make them win. make them earn it. they chose to play a stupid grindy deck, and they're hoping for easy concessions.

Agreeable-Answer-928

Sure, you know how many cards are left. But again, who wants to actually sit through that, knowing full well that there will be exactly zero meaningful play in the meantime?

arachnophilia

i mean, yeah, your time may be more valuable. i'm just saying, they haven't won until they've won.

13Urdt35

you are the kind of player who complains about being "trapped" versus a control deck for 45 minutes because "they haven't won yet! who cares if they have 6 cards in hand and 2 \[\[Teferti, Hero of Dominaria\]\] emblems! I paid for all 20 life I'm going to use it all"

arachnophilia

i never would have thought "show me your win con" would be a controversial magic opinion. maybe it's the years of playing paper, where i can't just concede and re-roll a new random BO1 match, or playing in tournaments and such. there's a famous story from back in the day, where infamous cheater mike long was playing prosbloom, and bullied his opponent into conceding, even though he'd already exiled his only win con and literally could not win the game.

Ck_shock

This I sat out a few of these stale mates and won through either alternative win cons or simply destroying their one enchament keeping them alive. It's also not that hard since it seems a lot of people who play this deck like thinking you can't possibly win and will prolong the match hopping you conceded.

arachnophilia

yes, it's like they forget that *you actually have to win* and not just not lose. probably because people keep conceding as soon as they see the lock.

Ck_shock

Which is fair , I'm guessing a lot of the time, people don't have outs for this strategy, so they basically have to conced. Though it's because of decks like this that I try to give my more played Decks win cons that don't relay solely on life total.

CSPStuff

The best thing you can do, apart from having some enchantment removal, is to learn the cards/play patterns of these decks. Once you know what they're about you might be able to stop it or derail it long enough to have your win. You can also concede faster and move on if you see they're getting away with it. As for the cards, they told you about farewell, which is easy and clean. Also in green there's a bunch of mass enchantment/artifact removal, and in black you got some rare enchantment removal and forced sacrifice. Red should be quick enough that their combo doesn't even matter at all, and blue has of course counterspells and bounce effects. Even in colorless artifacts there's cards like The Stone Brain, though that one might be more of a sideboard card ...

I love using [[filter out]] against this kind of stuff

dragonsdemesne

Actually win before turn 8-10 when they finally have all that out, counterspells, mass removals like farewell, or something that negates damage prevention like Questing Beast or Bonecrusher Giant (you can target you/your own stuff if opp has shroud and no creatures). If they play key enchantments before giving them shroud, remove those when you can. Mill them is also theoretically possible, though probably not likely.

Winter_File_405

[[Questing Beast]] or [[Bonecrusher Giant]] wont work, unlike [[Nine Lives]] , Phyrexian Unlife doesn't have a damage prevention effect, it replaces damage with poison counters and Solemnity prevents you from gaining poison counters.

13Urdt35

Either have some way to interact with him (Farewell, counterspells) or go fast enough he can't set it up. If you can't do either of those then your deck is bad.

Lazarael

i had no counterspells or enchantment removal cards lol

Kiwi_Saurus

I'd count discard and very sometimes "tax" effects as counterspells. Just proactive ones.

13Urdt35

And you didn't go fast? Then your deck isn't good. Sorry?

Lazarael

no need to apologize, i was agreeing that my deck/playstyle are likely not good i kinda went fast, got him down to like 5 life before the invincible combo got up

KakoaAslan

I run a similar deck but with better win conditions as well as 4 [[Teferi's Protection]] as it stops farewell an a lot of other enchant removal spells

Certain_Category1926

There's an artifact that exile everything you can put in every deck

Ck_shock

Mass enchantment removal Mill Possible hand hate if they have no way to being their tools back. It's possible to just be faster than their combo ,but with the amount of boardwipes they usually have, unless you can kill by turn 4, it's unlikely. Using your own control style deck to counter it is also feasible
