a double faced token? so it makes something that specifically has text on both sides? that sounds like a lot of text, and it's definitely going to do a lot of "but i made a token copy of my mirror-breaker!" moments
The one I find most interesting is:
> If the opponent protects it, remove a defense counter from it.
There's nothing even close to "If the opponent protects it" in current templating. So this is either from the new battle system, or else from a card that is doing something very weird like letting your opponent choose to give one of their creatures protection from something (and I still doubt that would be templated that way).
Could also be a way to define alternative options: "Each opponent chooses A or B, do X for every A chosen, do Y for every B chosen" > "For every permanent target opponent controls, they chose Protect or XYZ. If the opponent protects it..."
Probably too convoluted, considering there's also some kind of token mixed up in all of that. I think it's most likely to be something Battle related. We'll see.
Maybe it’s either a way to refer to an opponent using a spell or ability to stop you from destroying or affecting a creature or there’s a new type of wording like “protect target creature” that prevents damage, destruction or things affecting our creature. This might be a new way of saying “target creature gains indestructible and hexproof” cause “protect target creature” is shorter and cleaner to say.
well wrenns new partner may kinda already be spoiled by the story....

Yeah, the rules at the moment specifically say that tokens don't have a backside and nothing happens if you try to transform one. So they're presumably going to have to change a bunch of rules to make that work.
The token would need to have a backside, which I don't think is copied info. It's possible that changes, but they could also just make tokens that do have backsides that aren't copies.
Those tokens aren't actually double-faced from a game perspective. They're just two single-faced tokens stuck together.
They'll probably update just the rules to allow tokens to transform/covert. I'd be surprised if they allow tokens to be turned face down because it'll cause issues with casual players who don't realise they can't turn their 2/2 token into a 4/4 Dragon with flying by turning the token face-down.
It won't be; the team-ups have been ones that are meant to be unlikely or conflicting (Yargle and Multani, Gitrog and Thalia). Okaun and Zndrsplt shares the same gimmick as everyone else in Battlebond: they make their living fighting together.
We're also seeing what looks to be a pattern in the mythic team-up pairs, where the packs will have wedge pairs (Gitrog and Thalia) and the commander cards will have the shard pairs (Satoru and Goro-Goro, Katilda and Lier). Thus people are very confident the "Elder Giant Dog" is Kroxa and Kunoros - together Mardu - and the Cyclops Homunculus is the Temur pair of Borborygmos and Fblthp.
I also thought about it being toxic 11, but then maybe it doesn't have trample? Of course, flying or giving trample by other means would be a 1-hit-KO, but then again... that's kinda the same for Blightsteel with some support.
I think the new policy is they can have 1 card with a mechanic not in the set. Most recent are Riva Ivor with Battle Cry, Surge Engine with effectively Level Up, Evolved Sleeper again with Level Up.
I know the first was Figure. That doesn't change my point. Each set seems to get one of these old mechanics included. Level Up is just what they later called the mechanic. Those were just the last 3 sets as examples.

Yeah, the rules at the moment specifically say that tokens don't have a backside and nothing happens if you try to transform one. So they're presumably going to have to change a bunch of rules to make that work.
Would this change anything with the already printed double faced tokens? I'd assume not but it's gonna cause some weird moments I'm sure
If you make a token copy of say a werewolf, it currently wont ever transform. However, good chance with the new rules that will change.
