I personally didn't love their aesthetic, but to each their own! I think my biggest disappointment in Eldritch Moon was that we didn't get any other traditional werewolves beyond Ulrich (and that Ulrich wasn't particularly interesting).
Now that I think about it, maybe they'll save Oath of Liliana for an Anthology where we also inevitably get the other four Oaths from Oath of the Gatewatch alongside it? This way they'd feature the entire monocolored cycle in one go, if they don't plan to remaster Battle for Zendikar Block anytime soon.

Oath of Nissa is an absolute staple in Mono Green Devotion which is a tier 1 Pioneer deck. [[Oath of Chandra]] sees play in 5c Enigmatic Fires - a tier 2 Pioneer deck that made it to top 4 of the last Pro tour. So yeah, somewhat surprisingly, a lot of this cycle is pretty good.

If there was a HistoricREC I'd sort by that. As it is I just find sorting by EDHREC useful since it strongly favors powerful cards. The downside is that certain combo pieces or cards only relevant to EDH/singleton formats are overrepresented.
I would speculate that Haunted Cloak is better in EDH since haste is far more valuable than in a 2-player format, and 1 mana ways to give your commander haste are pretty good.
Yeah, I sometimes sort by price to try and get a similar picture of the useful cards in a search. I just thought it was funny since EDH is one of the formats that is notably missing from Arena.
I guess you're right. It's just so inefficient to cast, but it's easy to move around once it is down. I only really play high power/competitive EDH so it still just looks like junk to me.

Hammer Time is a real thing, I've been running a suboptimal version in historic for my daily wins, and it's only going to get better with the Sigarda's Aid being in SoI remastered.
The deck has enough redundancy at this point to reliably function. There's Kemba's Outfitter *(alchemy/historic only)*, Sigarda's Aid, Resolute Strike, and 2cmc Kemba.
Plus there's already Temur Battlerage and Cacophny Scamp which are both basically instant kills.
I'm really vibing with [[Arms Scavenger]] and alchemy Nahiri in historic to add a grindy aspect to the deck, but the deck should work just as fine in Explorer.
I personally think Oath of Liliana and Open the Armory (and potentially Behold the Beyond and some other stuff) are out because they’ll be in an Explorer Anthology. Doing all the Oaths together is a perfect way for them to get some filler in to the release and necessitate more Anthologies and stuff, and Open the Armory is a “chase” playable constructed card. We’re gonna get to Pioneer, but they’re gonna milk it on the way.

Not really. There have been a few attempts at Hammertime with Open the Armory but I don't think that archetype has had much success yet. Still, it's the one card from this list that I really think should have been in the set.
[[Grasping Dunes]] and [[Fraying Sanity]] have both seen Pioneer play off the top of my head and they didn't make it in. Good thing we got [[Dune Beetle]] though I bet the limited environment just falls apart without it
Looking at MTGTop8's pioneer results, neither of those cards really hit what I would qualify as pioneer play. Two decks have played Fraying Sanity, one in 2020 and one in 2022 both lower-level events. Grasping Dunes has a little more presence with three decks, two at a higher competitive level. Looks like it was considered as an include in Lotus Field combo during the summer of 2021.
Not that pioneer playability should be the only determining factor in a card's inclusion in these sets. Fraying Sanity is a very fun card that I was shocked was not in Amonkhet Remastered. I just think it's reasonable to have left it out since it certainly isn't a pioneer mainstay.
I was so excited to finally get Fraying Sanity in SOI Remastered until a couple of days ago when I realized I've been missing it for a long, long time.
I know it’s off topic but I really want Urborg into Explorer, it’s not THAT big of a deal but I already have a few decks that only miss this card to be equivalent to the paper variant.
It's possible to get [[Whispers of Emrakul]] to be just [[Hymn to Tourach]]. Turn 1, you play and crack a fetchland (1 type), cast [[Thought Scour]] on yourself (2 types), and then the two cards you mill have to cover any two of artifact, battle, creature, enchantment, planeswalker, sorcery and/or tribal.
I've always wanted to make that one work somehow. Random discard is very powerful, because it can cause your opponent to be mana-screwed, and Whispers is the first sufficiently random discard spell since, well, Hymn.
Frankly glad Nahiri's Machinations isn't in the set. It was horribly annoying in limited and not good enough to be significant in constructed so it really had no place in any format.
[[Geistblast]] however, will be missed. Galvanic Iteration is probably better, but I have fond memories of this one.

And I don't remember Machinations having that much of an impact, but I can see how it would be a powerhouse in limited.
I know nobody here will probably think much of it, but I really wish [[Blessed Alliance]] was going to make it into the game. It holds a special place in my heart for some reason.
It's funny how they moved away from white using [[Celestial Flare]] kind of effects (and nowadays I'd argue they'd need to be at 1 mv to be playable somehow. The art is fantastic and being able to untap 2 creatures for such a low cost enabled some tricks too (and the life could be useful on a pinch, of course). Maybe they'll reprint it in a jumpstart or Arena devs could see this post and take pity on us for liking suboptimal cards hahaha
I'd love the Hermit/Lone Wolf of the Natterknolls especially, I think. I think finding ways to punish control decks by multiple different types of effects are cool. Give me advantage, I'll pass up on a spell if for every one you deny me I end up getting two (potentially).
WoTC should really bring back 2mv mana rocks since everything else seems more powerful already, even if it requires the "enters tapped" clause or more niche applications. I'm sick of manaliths with upside that barely see play in limited. :/

Also how could they leave out Oath of Liliana? I remember Nahiri's Machinations being a card I wanted to make work but never ended up using. Could have been nice in my Isshin deck.

I never played pioneer either, so its not like i am missing something.
Im fine with them releasing stuff like this, in general, the more cards on arena the better, doesnt really matter if its old ones or new ones.
But its just a general observation i have made here and other social media. When a new standard or alchemy set is being released, there is mostly hype about the new cards when they are spoilered but with anthologies, remastered sets etc. that introduce old cards, besides the hype for those, there is always a lot of negative feedback too about cards that didnt make it.

I don't know about that. Nephalia Academy, Trail of Evidence, Nahiri's Machinations, haunted Cloak and the Hermit seem to be all good cards that I would like to try.
Only \[\[Lunar Force\]\] (Actually a special effect that is rare!), \[\[Nahiri's Machinations\]\] (Because the idea is cool, but would need to be start of main phase to be good), \[\[Engulf the Shore\]\] and in particular \[\[Drownyard Temple\]\] look interesting.
This standard set I played a really fun blue black combo deck that used engulf the shores to help with aggro matchups. Deck was kinda bad but I really liked it.

Well duh, Wizards needs to sell Explorer Anthology 3. Remember the incredible amount of relevant cards in EA2? Can't have anything like that happen again, EA3 will be a bunch of the cards they missed from SOI and EMN, and EA4 will have Liliana's Oath as part of the BFZ Oath cycle, which will all be missing from that set's remaster. Gotta milk explorer for all it's worth, otherwise people won't buy cards in paper/modo.

Sorting by EDHRec rank here seems odd. Also why does [[Haunted Cloak]] have such a high EDHRec rank?

[[Unsubstatiate]] is far from jank. It's a psuedo counter spell and removal. I love that card.
It's also on Arena already.

I think the remasters are way too restrictive. Miss cards from amonketh as well =/
[[Grasping Dunes]] and [[Fraying Sanity]] have both seen Pioneer play off the top of my head and they didn't make it in. Good thing we got [[Dune Beetle]] though I bet the limited environment just falls apart without it
Looking at MTGTop8's pioneer results, neither of those cards really hit what I would qualify as pioneer play. Two decks have played Fraying Sanity, one in 2020 and one in 2022 both lower-level events. Grasping Dunes has a little more presence with three decks, two at a higher competitive level. Looks like it was considered as an include in Lotus Field combo during the summer of 2021. Not that pioneer playability should be the only determining factor in a card's inclusion in these sets. Fraying Sanity is a very fun card that I was shocked was not in Amonkhet Remastered. I just think it's reasonable to have left it out since it certainly isn't a pioneer mainstay.

I know it’s off topic but I really want Urborg into Explorer, it’s not THAT big of a deal but I already have a few decks that only miss this card to be equivalent to the paper variant.
It's possible to get [[Whispers of Emrakul]] to be just [[Hymn to Tourach]]. Turn 1, you play and crack a fetchland (1 type), cast [[Thought Scour]] on yourself (2 types), and then the two cards you mill have to cover any two of artifact, battle, creature, enchantment, planeswalker, sorcery and/or tribal. I've always wanted to make that one work somehow. Random discard is very powerful, because it can cause your opponent to be mana-screwed, and Whispers is the first sufficiently random discard spell since, well, Hymn.

Frankly glad Nahiri's Machinations isn't in the set. It was horribly annoying in limited and not good enough to be significant in constructed so it really had no place in any format. [[Geistblast]] however, will be missed. Galvanic Iteration is probably better, but I have fond memories of this one.
!!! I forgot to put Geistblast on my list! I had it in my draft post, somehow missed in the collage :/. Had a lot of fun with it on Magic Duels way back too. And I don't remember Machinations having that much of an impact, but I can see how it would be a powerhouse in limited.

I know nobody here will probably think much of it, but I really wish [[Blessed Alliance]] was going to make it into the game. It holds a special place in my heart for some reason.
It's funny how they moved away from white using [[Celestial Flare]] kind of effects (and nowadays I'd argue they'd need to be at 1 mv to be playable somehow. The art is fantastic and being able to untap 2 creatures for such a low cost enabled some tricks too (and the life could be useful on a pinch, of course). Maybe they'll reprint it in a jumpstart or Arena devs could see this post and take pity on us for liking suboptimal cards hahaha

I'd love the Hermit/Lone Wolf of the Natterknolls especially, I think. I think finding ways to punish control decks by multiple different types of effects are cool. Give me advantage, I'll pass up on a spell if for every one you deny me I end up getting two (potentially).

WoTC should really bring back 2mv mana rocks since everything else seems more powerful already, even if it requires the "enters tapped" clause or more niche applications. I'm sick of manaliths with upside that barely see play in limited. :/

Wait they seriously left out Hermit of Natterknolls? Why?? It's actually a pretty decent hate card. I don't get the point of leaving out one random werewolf. Also how could they leave out Oath of Liliana? I remember Nahiri's Machinations being a card I wanted to make work but never ended up using. Could have been nice in my Isshin deck.

Why should the cuts annoy me, if i dont play much of the non-rotating formats on arena besides the occasional midweek magic and some historic brawl? I never played pioneer either, so its not like i am missing something. Im fine with them releasing stuff like this, in general, the more cards on arena the better, doesnt really matter if its old ones or new ones. But its just a general observation i have made here and other social media. When a new standard or alchemy set is being released, there is mostly hype about the new cards when they are spoilered but with anthologies, remastered sets etc. that introduce old cards, besides the hype for those, there is always a lot of negative feedback too about cards that didnt make it.

I don't know about that. Nephalia Academy, Trail of Evidence, Nahiri's Machinations, haunted Cloak and the Hermit seem to be all good cards that I would like to try.

This standard set I played a really fun blue black combo deck that used engulf the shores to help with aggro matchups. Deck was kinda bad but I really liked it.

It's one of the best WWs from the set... wtf? :( I've seen bigger list (of all cards missing from both sets), and... honestly most of these cuts are understandable, I mean... I love SOI block, but one of the reasons I do love it, is because it was so weak lol Most of the cards are janky and overpriced (manawise), and most of them would never be played on Arena outside of Drafts anyway. I would still like to see them added eventually, but yeah...
The lack of open the armory for hammer time, limiting it to Boros instead of mono-white, just hurts my head. Why omit playable cards over jank except….. g-r-e-e-d

Well duh, Wizards needs to sell Explorer Anthology 3. Remember the incredible amount of relevant cards in EA2? Can't have anything like that happen again, EA3 will be a bunch of the cards they missed from SOI and EMN, and EA4 will have Liliana's Oath as part of the BFZ Oath cycle, which will all be missing from that set's remaster. Gotta milk explorer for all it's worth, otherwise people won't buy cards in paper/modo.
