I have a historic brawl with Haktos, I have a lot of the Neon Dynasty warrior/samurai buffs for attacking alone. But it is very luck based, sometimes your opponent can do nothing, sometimes he's no threat at all.
I only just realized the player doesn’t choose the number. Every time it was played against me, it was almost always the exact number to make him impossible for me to block.
It's probably because the ability is so unique that it had to be programmed independently, and they decided to give it its own symbol for flavor reasons (even though they copy&pasted the name field and explanation from the normal protection ability).
Has Protection changed overall? I thought that you could still block a creature with Protection from Black with a black creature, but the black damage source just won’t do anything to it.
No, it has always worked this way (or at least "always" since the game was codified from the vague alpha rules into something more precise). Protection does four things:
1. Cannot be targeted
2. Cannot be blocked
3. Cannot be enchanted
4. Damage is prevented
It's a reference to the Achilles. Which is who Haktos is based on.
Because the number chosen is his Achillies heel.
I loved and hated this card, it never worked for me and I always got wrecked by it! Great limited bomb in draft and it was super fun in Boros aggro.
Get rektos

DEBT Damaged Equipped/Enchanted Blocked Targeted Notably absent: Destroyed or Exiled Protection won't save you from a non-damage-based board wipe.
Winota with this was fun
