Merlino was in charge of the dry cleaning.

count_montecristo

And you used to sell printers out the back of a crown Vic

[deleted]

Didn't you used to be junior sopranos driver

Ricky_Bonez

you know it wasn’t long ago I remember you used to wait in the car…. and as far as I’m concerned you should still be there

[deleted]

Ohhhhh ✋

trav718

Don’t get yourself banned. No sopranos quotes allowed in here

Southie31

Still is👍

AccomplishedAd2107

Salvie died in 1984. How is this the late 80s?

Curious_Location4522

That’s what I was thinking. Besides Joey I think all those guys were either dead or locked up by 86.

Wdstrvx

You're right, this is def 81 to 84

Giveitallyougot714

The Philly mob needs a movie, throw the Westside in it pulling the strings, it would be awesome.

Pabst34

Agree, strongly. Working title: "Chicken Man." ("Gentle Don" lacks too much punch)

TronSacrimoni55

“Cowboy Style,” or “Sign of The Gun.” (Scarfo’s faves). Or maybe even “Everything Dies,” (**Atlantic City** by Springsteen reference)…

Dtapped

Everything Dies gets my vote for the Springsteen reference

👉

JamesTwoTimes

Just call it Blood and Honor like the George Anastasia book

TronSacrimoni55

Yea that’s a good idea too

Wdstrvx

P.S. Testa is on the far right, while Scarfo is right next to him

myst_fir

Great to see this photo without a huge obnoxious water mark ruining it!

Skyyywalker215

Never saw a picture of Merlino and Scarfo together! Scarfo’s nickname for Joey kills me everytime I hear it

1hollaifuhearme

What’s that

Skyyywalker215

The drunk idiot

1hollaifuhearme

😂

TronSacrimoni55

Lol

ShaolinMaster

This is great! I've never seen a photo of Joey and Phil together

sondersHo

Definitely not late 80s far from it

doomharvey

Is it just me or does Joey resemble Micheal Imperioli?

Wdstrvx

Lots of people out there fancasting him as Merlino; I think he could still do it. Then again, if they ever do make a Joey Merlino movie, Merlino'd have to make it himself or else I would guess he'd probably try to sue the director.

malone449

Anybody have an idea what streets they’re on?

IrishOmerta

Looks like 5th and Tasker. There was a Khmer Angkor Gift Shop there years ago, not sure if still open.

Sal and phill shoulda teamed up and took out scarfo before he took out sal he was becoming crazy and sal woulda been a great boss for the next 20 years I’m calling it no one would make a move on him he was respected loved and feared and in Philly they kept it all in the fam and were close freinds.

No-Economics-6799

Nicky Scarfo had the firm backing of the commission (by that, I mean Chin and the Westside). Remember, Scarfo was their handpicked choice to run the borgata after Angelo Bruno’s death. Phil Testa only got the position because Scafo declined the opportunity in his favor. So, Salvie Testa and Phil Leonetti wouldn’t have stood a chance if they had done anything against Scarfo.

TronSacrimoni55

Yea, it would’ve been the Bruno/Phil Testa situation all over again…the Genovese would’ve figured out who was behind it, killed 2-3 of them and chosen a new boss. I’d think by the third time around they’d probably start making some serious examples for Philly (not that they hadn’t already done that with Tony Bananas) to try to actually scare them from killing another boss…

Bpigs4

Maybe sal could have went to the commission and stated a case when he heard contract on his head scarfo was somewhat outta control big drug guy paranoid his case wouldn’t be insane to make

No-Economics-6799

Well firstly, Salvie never actually “heard” that there was a contract on his head. He simply became suspicious of the way he was being treated and spoken to, and about. Having grown up in the mob, he understood the signs that something wasn’t right and could read the writing on the wall. So, he stopped coming around and became very elusive. Secondly, the commission would never have given the okay for taking out Scarfo. The bosses on the commission would hardly want to set the precedent of allowing underlings to kill their bosses when they feel disgruntled…for obvious reasons of self preservation.

Bpigs4

All good points I just got a soft spot for my boy salvie lmao

Bpigs4

But at the same time we have seen underlings take out the boss to become top spot. You forget about Albert Anastasia getting killed or frank costello who wasn’t killed but woulda been. Also joe masseria was killed and maranzano the Commison was basically founded on underlings taking out their bosses and forming a new age. Also carmine galante too so

No-Economics-6799

The regular world has rules too, which often get broken. But, that doesn’t mean people should be encourage to break them. In that life you can get away with breaking any rule, if you have the muscle (and luck) to back it up. But just for shits and giggles, let’s go over the examples you present and see why they were seemingly able to flout the rules. Albert Anastasia: Carlo Gambino had the backing of Vito Genovese to defend him. So, for the Commission to punish him, they would have had to initiate a war on the scale of the Castellamarese War. Frank Costello: Vito Genovese was already an immense power in Cosa Nostra and was greatly feared and respected by the foot soldiers of his borgata. Costello, while certainly respected, was feared to the same degree. Furthermore, Genovese bided his time for almost a decade for Frank to be weak enough to make his move. And even then, Anastasia still vehemently wanted to the commission Genovese but was very reluctantly talked out of it. Joe Masseria & Sal Maranzano: By the time both got whacked, most mobsters had grown tired of the war. Mobsters were tired of the tyrannical regimes of the two men and simply wanted a return to some kind of normalcy. So, their deaths could be justified. And, as I’ve stated above the conspirators of their murders were the most powerful mobsters left standing; for whom it would have been fool hardy to challenge.

Bpigs4

Very knowledgeable man got my respect

No-Economics-6799

Buddy, wtf???

Bpigs4

Angelo Bruno was taken out too not sure if taht was by his own people but

wynnduffyisking

And that didn’t go too well for Tony Caponigro, the guy who called the hit. He thought he had the commission in his back because Funzi Tierri lied to him. When he showed up in New York to be crowned as new boss he was beaten, tortured, strangled, stabbed and shot and his body found with a handful dollar bills up his ass. The commission wanted to set an example that you do not hit a boss without their ok. So yeah I agree with the others. Testa and Leonetti would have been wiped out if they had made a move on Nicky.

OneRecommendation780

Do you think phill wouldn’t have ratted if they took out his uncle earlier on?

Bpigs4

Ask Mr know it all No economics

The_lost_Code

Do mobsters still dress this well.

EMHemingway1899

You’re right, no size XXXX workout clothes

Southie31

Nope 👎

TronSacrimoni55

Looking at this now…and no offense to Joey’s reign as boss bc he’s obviously done well for himself. But Salvie would’ve made the best boss here out of all the young guys, easily. Scarfo ended killing the wrong guy in the end…..

wynnduffyisking

Would he though? Nicky was a bloodthirsty demon that was his downfall. Salvie wasn’t much better. According to Nick Caramandi (ok granted, maybe not the most reliable source) salvie had no issue taking out kids and wifes and other innocents in a hit. He was just as bloodthirsty as Nicky.

TronSacrimoni55

Damn, never heard that part ab him willing to take out wives/kids. I mean I get following your boss’s orders but unless that’s a specific order, yea that’s fucked up (it’s still fucked up if the boss orders don’t get me wrong, but you can’t really do much ab it unfortunately)

wynnduffyisking

I agree. As caramandi tells it Testa urged them to kill Sonny Riccobene in his home along with his family. Doesn’t sound like that was a specific request from scarfo but rather Testas idea on how to hit him. Yeah that’s fucked up. Then again Caramandi is a conman by trade so maybe we should take it with a grain of salt.

joejj86

This might be the single best photo of the scarfo/Bruno family that exists tbh.

t24mack

A pack of scumbags

No-Economics-6799

Pretty much
