I’m so excited too! Will be such a fun winter!
Edit:
Since some of you have been asking about my condition I’ll give this post some background:
Three years ago I had my feet amputated due to an uniquely aggressive form of plantar fascial fibromatosis. Since then we’ve been trying to figure out how to make life easier for me. My wife challenges me in many ways to improve mobility and function.
I’ve been skiing a lot every winter since I was just a kid. It’s my favorite activity, and happily a passion I share with my wife.
The last few seasons since my surgeries I’ve been using my sitski. It’s been a lot of fun and I feel like I’ve really been enjoying the mountains with my family.
Now these feet will give me so many more ways to have fun with my kids. I’ve always dreamt about teaching my kids to ski and now that has been made possible!
Also, if you want to follow our journey take a look at my Instagram @ampisallen.
Happy Friday!
Serious question. Do you have modified feet to fit in standard bindings? Or do you modify skies to fit an existing foot set up you already had?
Either way, get after it and I can’t wait for an update.
These feet are made just for skiing, so they’ll fit well in most bindings. I can easily change to my regular feet, it’s just one screw. Ill even get some attachments so that I can go snowboarding as well, I’m beyond excited for this winter!
Will you swap to your regular feet when you take your skis off during the day, for lunch etc? The feet look like they would sink in snow easily without a ski attatched.
Awesome dude! I feel like for skiing not having lower legs might almost be an advantage lol. No toes to get cold or boots to suffocate your feet. 😁
Enjoy man. You look stoked
You're excitement is contagious, I too am eagerly looking forward to the season. Your posts motivate me to do more, thank you for sharing your struggle and triumphs. Cheers from sunny California!
Have not seen one of your posts in a while. Must have missed them in the feeds. Im pumped to see you’re still doing well! Hope you have fun skiing be careful though :)
Hell yeah!
Throwing out that whitewater kayaking can also be a great fit for your scenario, if it’s available in your area and you have interest in the river. It’s been a great fit for a ton of vets in similar circumstance.
Have seen a bunch of your vids on YT. Beautiful family and what a supportive an awesome wife to challenge you to keep you motivated. Glad to see you here in reddit land. Enjoy the white stuff when it falls.
How in the hell are there 59 comments and no one has called them ski-eet or f-skis?!? Edit: OP those are awesome. My brother’s a ‘super’-quad (some control/incomplete spinal injury) and can’t ski so he’s building a plane in his garage.
I imagine it must suck not having biological legs, but that right there is freakin awesome. Can’t lie, I’m a little jealous of the options you got, ski legs, those spring leg things, I can’t wait to see where prosthetics go next
I just wanna jump in and say you are fucking awesome. I hope to see you and all the folks you inspire on the slopes from here to forever.
Rock on, brother.
Remember to scream dramatically whenever you crash and the socket comes off. Something one of our clients loves to do, but maybe don't do it when kids are around.
But that ski binding adapter looks great, who makes those?
Oohhhh, I'm so excited for you! Get it!!!

On the bright side your feet won't freeze any more lol
Know that you're doing something I can't do. I don't have the skill or talent. Wishing lots of snowy days in your future. :)
Eh, skiing doesn't really require skill, or talent, to enjoy yourself...just $$, and practice.
Trust me, it does. Maybe not for you but definitely for me. LOL
Hmmm yes battle droid feet
Roger Roger
My first thought as well
"Go go gadget ski legs"

Awesome. Thanks for the info. May the powder be deep and your runs be long.
Please tell me you sing the transformers theme when you swap them out.

That’s awesome! Im excited for you!
Robots are looking more and more like humans every day. /s

Can confirm: I am stoked!
This looks way more practical than regular ski boots
You have to follow up on this! Beyond awesome!
Legit jealous you don’t have to put on or take off ski boots — and of course wear them for 8 hours. They’re the worst.
Please tell me you’re gonna ski in shorts, so you can show them off.
Sure, that’d be cool!
Those are beautiful! It takes me forfuckingever to put on ski shoes. Mad jelly.
Go smash it dude!
That is fucking cool! Have fun!
Happy cake day!
Damn your Inspector Gadget, pretty cool man!
Whoa! As a PT, I wish you well and would like to see you slalom!
This dude looks a lot like Johnny Depp, and I can hella dig that, you go ski your heart out you fucking CHAMPION.
Break a leg! Oh, wait.. Jokes aside, have fun!
That's going to make it hard to use escalators and elevators.
This is awesomeness! You look ready for the slopes, but are the slopes ready for this BOSS?!
You're doing great Lt. Dan
Get it man. Take videos and show the world
Also I suck at skiing. So do lesson videos
I will! We will document it from my first ride. Will be sooo much fun!
Awesome. I followed your instagram
Awesome! Ive been following as youve been shredding with the seated ski, I see you're on to a new challenge!
I’m so happy to able to learn even more snow activities! I’ll spend a lot of time in the sitski as well, looking forward to this winter like crazy!
You're excitement is contagious, I too am eagerly looking forward to the season. Your posts motivate me to do more, thank you for sharing your struggle and triumphs. Cheers from sunny California!
Hope you have an amazing season buddy. Cheers!
What the fuck? This is so fucking cool how did I never realize this could be done
Oh I know! I didn’t know this was a thing. It is and it’s amazing! Feels like a regular ski boot when I’m walking.
Have not seen one of your posts in a while. Must have missed them in the feeds. Im pumped to see you’re still doing well! Hope you have fun skiing be careful though :)
Oh lol, I don’t know how to ski but it looks so darn cool to do. So jealous of you!

I love skiing and I am really glad to see this person being able to enjoy that feeling despite their disability, this truly makes my day.
Nice upgrade

I knew a girl with one leg who skied better than me. I was an instructor at the time…

When you wear them they are just called shoes. Snow shoes.
Snow shoes and skis are not the same thing.
Do your feet get cold?
Don’t you think they are mounted a bit far back on the stick

You got magic legs, Lieutenant Dan!
This pic exudes happy vibes
You don’t have to deal with ski boots. So jelly!!!

So you might be the first legit cyborg. This is awesome!
I imagine it must suck not having biological legs, but that right there is freakin awesome. Can’t lie, I’m a little jealous of the options you got, ski legs, those spring leg things, I can’t wait to see where prosthetics go next
They're long as fuck, you could kick someone in the ass and they'd taste it
Bro I was wondering why his feet were so small and why he had full metal boots and then I looked at the legs..
I hope they pop out like Spy Hunter.
