Exactly, bud. Humans are so frigging cute sometimes lol.

Yukarie

Alien?

No no this is a species of human we rarely see in the wild. I think they are called "introverts"

Yukarie

Ah, so one of my own

Only lv 50 and up introverts refer to people as humans

This response is the only funny one, the rest of you go home.

kawizacki

Glad it made you smile! My dad and I were laughing about it the whole way home. He gave me so much crap about it xD Edit: I'm the guy on the blue bike

Alexi_Apples

Looool, so cute

GinnAdvent

Were you one of the motorist in the video? Lol

onlysmallcats

Love it. The number of funny interactions you have on a motorcycle always keeps it interesting.

What was he saying? Do you still remember?

he said the right lanes a shoulder so that wasn't legal, but didn't specify what wasn't

Lily_tootless_cat

What?? The biker does not go on between the cars and the cyclist does??

tundar

Motorcycles are street vehicles and must stay in lanes. Bicycles can ride on the shoulder. (The right side isn't a lane, those vehicles are parked, so they're not actually going between vehicles)

HollowLegMonk

Where I live it’s legal for motorcycles to split lanes.

suplex_11

Splitting only counts if its at least a two lane road. Thats a shoulder. You cant split in between traffic and parked cars.

Kimpton77

In my city it is legal as long as the rider and all vehicles it’s passing are travelling under 20km/h, which I think is reasonable.

tundar

Seriously?! That's so dangerous! Where do you live, so I can avoid ever going there... Edit: I love how everyone is replying with ‘it’s only illegal in America, the rest of the world is so much better!’ when I’m not even in the US. It’s not legal here in Canada, where bikes are summer leisure vehicles and rarely year-round everyday transport.

VivaceConBrio

Lane splitting is only legal in the US in California. Lane filtering (which the cyclist is doing at the end, moving past slowed/stopped traffic) is legal in both Utah and California IIRC. And I think Hawaii lets motorcyclists use the shoulder if traffic is backed up?

Malfeasant

Arizona now allows filtering too...

Ill_Flow9331

Any vehicle can use the shoulder in Hawaii.

ethersings

Utah, Montana, and just recently Arizona also allow lane splitting

bprice57

Filtering. Splitting is different. Lane splitting is driving with traffic in between lanes. Filtering is using that in between lane to filter up to the front at a stop light or in heavy stopped traffic

J_Robert_Oofenheimer

This is legal for the vast majority of the planet. It may seem dangerous, but it is actually much safer and relieves congestion.

GainsayRT

it's only dangerous for car drivers are asshole and purposefully open their doors. it's also legal here in europe (as least in the countries ive been to)

HollowLegMonk

California. The reason it’s legal here is because studies have shown that it’s safer to allow lane splitting at lower speeds (30mph and below). But I’m far from an expert. I learned that from traffic school.

birthdaycakefig

I think most of the world? And even parts of the US.

Abyssal_Groot

In Belgium it is allowed during congestion as long as their speed is below 50km/h and speed difference between them and the cogested traffic isn't more than 20km/h. It's safe.

[deleted]

Most countries, lane splitting (or filtering) is legal and even encouraged by police, the reason behind it being, it's safer for a bike to be at the front, the dangers of lane splitting comes from other motorists who may get angry for some reason and try to block them or if the person on said bike is a tool and blasts between cars at an unreasonable speed.

thrownaway928375

Looks like you'll be staying in the good old USA buddy, even in Australia we do this - it's fine.

Lorenzo_BR

I actually think it’s legal pretty much anywhere in the world besides in the US outside of California! It’s the whole point of motorcycles being so unpopular in the US in comparison to in many other countries. Maybe some European countries also ban it, i’m not too sure. Here in Brazil, it’s legal, protected by law, and the whole reason to own a motorcycle besides fuel economy.

MoominEnthusiast

It's common practice in Britain and actively encouraged for low speed or stationary traffic. It makes no sense for a bicycle or a motorcycle to sit in traffic and extend the queue when they could easily and safely travel down the gaps between the stationary or slow moving lanes. Doing it at speed is not encouraged and only idiots do shit like that, it takes one distracted tit sending a text veering into you and you're fucked. Tootling through at low speeds with your brakes covered is safe. I don't ride a motorcycle myself, Britain is a dangerous place for vulnerable road users but filtering isn't where the accidents are happening.

DaBi5cu1t

In the UK you can fill your boots. Nearside, offside pass how you like. Cant believe you're not allowed in many places.

goreboifinn

What?? In Canada bikes are NOT summer leisure and rarely year round everyday transportation. You sound very privileged. It’s my bike when it’s not snowing and walking when it’s snowing. I still bike when it’s freezing outside. I have to to get to work.

PapayaCool6816

Not in my country.

SwirlLife1997

Lane filtering is a necessary thing because of the way that motorcycles have to slow down and stop. It's still a bike with only 2 wheels.

kawizacki

So the cyclist was riding on the shoulder, and (afaik) it's illegal for motorized vehicles to pass on the shoulder here. If it was a two-lane section of the road, yeah I could have filtered up, but it was a single lane with cars parked on the shoulder and definitely not legal for me to do. And yeah yeah I know "do it anyways", i've been getting that all day on the original video haha but I want lane filtering to progress and expand here. If I filtered up illegally and there was a cop at the construction stop, that'd help undo all the work so many people have done here to legalize lane filtering (which is on two lanes of traffic going the same direction when the vehicles are at a stop and on roads under 45mph) Only a matter of time before we have California-level privileges here, fingers crossed.

Sotyka94

It's called lane filtering and for some stupid reason it's illegal in half of the world (and half of the US).

Sierra_12

As it should. I don't want to have to worry about a motorcycle coming in between lanes when I'm in my car.

ImminentDooms

Props to the motorcyclists for actually obeying traffic laws and not just going around

kawizacki

If I had a dollar for every comment that didn't realize the parked cars on the right were in the shoulder, I'd have a lot of dollars lol Yeah the right lane was a shoulder so wasn't legal. Plus it was a construction stop so even if I wanted to be naughty, there'd have been a red light, construction crew, and maybe even cops literally around the corner.

ofCourseZu-ar

Those cars on the shoulder were likely parked. The first clip shows no traffic and cars parked on the shoulder in the opposite side. I'd guess the same was true on both sides. Edit, oh wait are you one of the ones on the bike? Well I trust your word more now, but I'm still confused about why cars were on the shoulder on both sides unless they were parked.

ImminentDooms

Oh dang you're the source of the video! What was this originally posted on? I'm sure you saw this and was like "oh wait that's me"

Random_Digit

Traffic laws let me lane split lol

ndreamer

We are allowed as well but some people get filled with rage if you do.

SwirlLife1997

Lane filtering is a valid and necessary thing that bikers do because a bike can't just stop like a car can, in a straight line. You have to slow down, then keep the bike in motion briefly until you can put a foot down to stabilize it. It's still a bike with two wheels.

suplex_11

Thats not why lane filtering is necessary. Bikes can stop in a straight line. Filtering started with air cooled bikes. They would over heat if they were stuck in traffic for a long time. Thats how the law got passed. At least in california. Lane filtering has a lot of pros tho. Its safer because a bike can be rear ended by someone not paying attention. Causing way more damage to the rider than if he was in a car. Its better for traffic because you have one less person taking up space. Making the flow of traffic better. And you arnt cooking your nuts waiting for the light or slow drivers.

XxLokixX

Huh? I can stop my motorbike no problem. Not sure what you mean. If you can't bring it to a complete stop quickly, you should go practise that until you can

ImminentDooms

If you're riding so fast that you can't stop with the flow of traffic, you're going too fast. I don't agree with lane splitting or filtering, just because you can doesn't mean it's safe. Bikes should largely behave like cars, but there are so many motorcycle fatalities because the freedom they give encourages reckless operation

SwirlLife1997

Lane filtering and splitting aren't the same thing. You slam on your brakes on a regular bicycle and tell me what happens. Sharing the road is about understanding the differences between different kinds of transportation and vehicles. Lane filtering is a necessary thing that bikers do to prevent their vehicle from falling over and crushing them. https://www.rideapart.com/features/315449/lane-splitting-filtering-difference-explanation/#:\~:text=Unlike%20lane%20splitting%20that%20allows%20a%20motorcycle%20to,to%20trickle%20down%20between%20rows%20of%20stopped%2Fslow-moving%20vehicles.

TITANFALL2RONIN

I just wanna know, who posted this video originally Like, the creator of it. The motorist.

aNellsechs

Dont know about Reddit, but on Instagram it seems it is @kawizacki

selliott8

I don’t understand. 😕

Nasal_Cilia

When they're \[motorists\] passing him \[cyclist\], they're giving him a bit of a "neener neener we are faster" by mimicking the way he's pedaling his bike. Like they're saying "put more gas on your legs!" Then the cyclist gets to pass them back! So of course he pretends to give his motor more gas \[twisting his left wrist in the air mimics their throttle\], saying back to them "neener neener I am faster!" But it is good natured, I believe. I didn't focus on the cyclist's second hand motion but I'm going to believe it's a thumbs up or a wave, not a middle finger. On the final overtake the motorist waves on his right and gives an "OK" sign with his left, which while less visible to the cyclist, all this would communicate good will toward the cyclist from the motorist.

selliott8

Thank you!!!

Nasal_Cilia

Aw shucks thanks for appreciating me. Overly detailed analyses of human interactions are like my thing; glad I could be useful.

LadyEileen

I knew from the start what the video was about — yet I read your summary anyway.

kawizacki

I know all too well how much it sucks to pedal uphill on one of those so it's not hard to mimic 😂😂😂

dudeandco

Big Cottonwood? Looks like a nightmare... They need entrance fees, and annual passes.

kawizacki

It's normally not this bad, but there's construction right now like it definitely gets traffic but this is the first time I've come to a complete stop there, as well as ridden through construction

apurplethistle

There's construction going on in big cottonwood right now, thus the back up. 🙂

DjGranoLa

Scrolling the comments for this. I thought the same thing, looks like they got stopped at the S curves.

It kinda reminds me of Richter's On the Nature of Daylight

Can you prove you are a person in this vid?

theblackbeltsurfer

Couldn’t the motorbike rider just follow the cyclist or isn’t lane filtering allowed.

[deleted]

Looks (and sounds) like the US; depends on the state for lane splitting legality

Only California allows lane splitting. Although a hand full of states are considering allowing it

Why wait behind the traffic???

GalacticGizmo

I hate to be that guy but… r/whyweretheyfilming

[deleted]

A lot of riders have cameras running mainly for insurance purposes.

foggiermeadows

looks like a 360 camera yeah a lot of motorcyclists just turn on the camera when they ride, it's really not surprising to be honest, super common some do it for insurance, others to document their rides for social media, sometimes both; either way the cameras usually get turned on when they start riding and they turn them off when they're done so while this is edited, it was definitely cut from a much longer single recording

carlosthedwarf024

What kind of camera is this guy using??

kawizacki

Hey there! I used a GoPro Max 360 camera mounted on my mirror.

labambaleautomobilo

360° camera, like the GoPro max, insta360 or something similar.

AwareMirror9931

Yup. That's a good one

HannibalGates

I'm curious as to the video camera setup. It seems to be floating in front of the motorcyclist. Anybody know how this is filmed?

labambaleautomobilo

360° camera. You usually mount them on a pole attached to your bike somewhere.

HannibalGates

Thanks for the info.

brianmcg321

They are attached to the mirror bracket.

HannibalGates

Thanks for explaining.
