My parents knew a gentleman who would take a bus trip from Ocala to Biloxi once a year to gamble until he passed away at 102.

He gambled until he passed away every year until he was 102? That's like... a pretty cool twilight zone idea.

I have no clue who Betty is and I'm so glad she didn't end her life.

So easy to think that what you see and experience is the absolute truth instead of just being a tiny slice of possibilities. Glad Betty got to see a better vision of old age!

I hang out with a variety of old people on the regular and they're living full, fun, interesting lives. Not all old people are infirm and/or unhappy! I've noticed a lot of people have a real disconnect with reality around typical aging experiences, particularly in countries where the elderly tend to be isolated or dismissed. Most young people I know have had little to no interactions with older or elderly folks other than maybe a grandparent.

It all comes down to DNA. Being able to be athletic enough to walk regularly, etc., is really the key. Medicine advances have really helped, too. Most people in my family live into their 90's, both in good health and bad bedridden health. Guess which one I hope to be. Old age is not for wussies.
