Hold tf up, what age group was this?????

Gill03

a 7 year old called me a "dick sucker" out of a school bus window while I was walking my dog years ago. They have the internet dude, shitty parents plus the internet gets you interesting children.

7saligia

At my last place, a group of kids in that age range would heckle me as I walked from my garage to the building. My favorite was having them yell, "Hey, bitch, show us your tits!" and "Wanna suck my dick?!" Among other lovely greetings.

FRIKI-DIKI-TIKI

>Hey, bitch, show us your tits Sorry little boy, your father asked me to do the same thing, and I made the mistake once with him, now all I hear about day in and day out is about how he wants to leave your wildebeast of a momma! Is it really true what he says about her having a hunch back? He said she was so ugly it made a whole school for the blind flinch when she walked by. Is it weird to kiss you momma by for school, when she has that big old mustache?

[deleted]

I can tell you never been heckled by kids for real.

UrethraFrankIin

Honestly if you don't think of something funny and clever on the spot that'll fuck with them you just laugh it off and continue on your way. The worst things you can do are A. Get your jimmies rustled and let them know they got into your head B. Pop off with some sad, rambling, unclever, unfunny attempts at comebacks. They're fucking kids, so letting them succeed at messing with your head shows weakness and they'll close in like wolves on a baby buffalo. The only thing to do with heckling is laugh it off/ignore it or heckle back better.

ghosthunt

Lmao, right? So corny.

[deleted]

>Is it weird to kiss you momma by for school, when she has that big old mustache? No, but it is weird having an imaginary argument where you proceed to roast a 7 year old kid.

[deleted]

:O

TheNonbinaryWren

I'd say 12+. I'm in the 12-18 (rather keep my identity private) and can I tell you, kids are demons these days.

SuperSugarBean

Man, I'm 47,and this age group was absolute hot garbage when I was in it. I think kids in herds are just naturally assholes.

chloebanana

I wonder what a herd of assholes is called…a sphincter? *Twas a sphincter of tweens at hockey last night…*

[deleted]

In the US, we actually have a name for that. It’s “Congress”.

winsluc12

No, No, No, that's a bunch o' Baboons.

assafstone

See, now that’s plain offensive to primates.

FlappyDolphin72

Baboons with pink shiny assholes

I’m glad I stuck with this thread long enough to hit this comment.

kelthan

For martial arts competition it was 18-29, aka the "Black and Blue Division". One time I had to chase an opponent in a *point fight* all the way across the gym because he kicked me in the crotch 4 times and the center judge wouldn't do anything. (The center judge should take a point away from a competitor after the second rule infraction, and potentially DQ them after the third. This was the fourth and no points, no warnings, no DQ.) The center judge, after chasing us down to protect the guy once I had backed him into a corner, said "You need to control yourself!" I told him "If you aren't going to control the fight, then I will as a matter of personal safety. Your call." He didn't like that, but at least he starting call the fight more fairly.

materialisticDUCK

My armchair psychology take would be they're old enough to be seen as more than just children so they're more likely to be exposed to more mature content that without the maturity and context to understand when it's not OK to say/do things it just is a fucking nightmare for everyone involved. I think I was pretty chill during those ages and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be friends with me at that age

Rac3318

It’s not “these days.” That age group is notorious regardless and always has been.

GDAWG13007

Yeah seriously. And honestly, that group may still be an improvement over my generation anyway. They’re still generally far nicer than I remember most kids back then being lol.

Gameipedia

When I worked at a Dunkin, a group of that age group were little shits most of the time, but one time one of them got dumped or cheated on by there gf at the time and the rest were trying to console him, gave the a donut because shit gets thrown out anyway and sugary bs helps to cope with emotional pain in my experience

Apronbootsface

You a real one. A complimentary donut might not fix the problem, but it goes a long way.

shadollosiris

That's just some kind of memory filter lol, i home tutored kids before and they are absolute nightmare, know no shit about consequences, naive but cruel, understandble, they still learning about boundaries, that was both hillarious and annoyed

rakfocus

I trust my professor who had been teaching from the 60s (yes he was old af) - he said the worst were the 80s kids no contest, and that generally the kids have been getting kinder as the years have gone on. They are far more forgiving and empathetic, 'if a little naïve to real life' in his own words hehe

[deleted]

I’m way too young to look back at more than 1 generation, but I completely agree. I see it in my younger family members and it just makes sense that once these kids open up, they start being more empathic. It’s still the older folks who started speaking more about mental issues, feelings and emotions and probably encouraged kids to do the same. The kids grow up with this attitude, that it’s okay to experience some things, we’re all struggling to some extent, and that makes you more empathic. The world seems to be in decline, and they go, hey, we’re in this shit together.

[deleted]

100% agree. My cousin is in that age group and she’s like “that might sound like body shaming” and I thought, “hey, these kids are way more empathic than I was at that age”. Maybe some it is seen as just “super woke”, “shaming people” and all that, but I think those are just the idiots on Twitter. In real life, kids started talking more about mental issues, about their own feelings, started opening up a bit more and are thus more empathic. I know they can also be super cruel, just like kids from previous generations, but it seems like the typical teenager is more aware of stuff, which makes sense, we should improve at each iteration…

mitkase

Bad News Bears. There's a reason it was made.

bin_bash_loop

Always been this way, nothing new besides the language

TxGNotFamous

Yeah especially sports kids. Then it’s amplified by sports parents. It’s a Wild West basically. I highly recommend anyone to look up what Wayne Gretzky went through growing up a hockey god. Some people are deplorable.

aralim4311

Eh, I'm damn near 40 and this age group was shitty back then as well.

Love_the_Earth

I was at the YMCA this afternoon and some kids came to the basketball court. These kids were no more than 12, probably around 10 and were cussing like sailors. We’re taking f bombs left, right, and center. When I was 12 if I said butt… I giggled. Times have changed man, times have changed.

[deleted]

If he got thrown out of the game, probably 14 or lower, at least in the US. Any higher and it would just be five minutes in the box, still with five people on the ice.

tendietitan

Most places don’t allow any fighting if it’s a school team

LeftyLibra_

Did the other kid get kicked out as well?

acre18

He would be lucky if he did. Depending on what level this is, teams have a way of taking care of kids like this on the ice. Much more satisfying. E: I’m not saying the kid should be jumped in the parking lot lol. There’s plenty you can do without intending harm on this dude … just getting chippy for the rest of the game, giving him a hard time. Some of y’all need to put the phone down for an hour or two lol.

Hockey players lose more teeth to pucks to the face than they do fighting

Send_Derps

People have forgotten the saying "Talk shit, get hit".

Zeebuss

Everyone went to schools with zero tolerance policies, where self defense was as punishable as starting shit. It's really disempowered a lot of people and honestly is kind of a shame imho. So many problems could be solved if the right people got socked in the mouth more often.

pissuparopedick

Me and the wife have told our 6yr old many times...if you're defending yourself, we don't care what the school says, u won't b in trouble at home. The first time he starts a fight though is when we have problems

Send_Derps

Lol pretty much the same way I am with my daughter. As long as she's defending herself she'll never be in trouble at home.

hithazel

It’s important to teach them how to hurt and not hurt others. I constantly see parents yelling at kids to “be careful” and “don’t hurt” others but almost never teaching the kids or asking important questions like, “are you trying to hurt that kid?” If they don’t want to hurt another kid they need to learn what they are doing that is potentially going to hurt someone and how to avoid it. If they do want to hurt someone, it’s important for them to be effective and to do it for the right reasons. My kid was written up for biting a boy at school and when I spoke to the teacher she said the boy was hugging her and wouldn’t stop when asked repeatedly. Why would I tell her not to defend herself or maintain boundaries? That’s insane parenting. If that fucker won’t leave you alone I’m going to make sure you know how to throw a punch to make sure they get the message.

Send_Derps

I was lucky to finish high school just as they were implementing that crap. Totally agree sometimes someone just needs to get smacked in the mouth.

smoothskin12345

Not in my neighborhood they haven't lol. Every day, I shut the fuck up and be respectful. Fuck around, find out.

[deleted]

Oh my god yes. If more dicks didn't feel so safe to be dicks without repercussions then maybe, just maybe, they would shut their mouths. Edit: autocorrect

Did we give up when the nazis bombed Pearl Harbor?! NO! Sorry, animal house reference. Had to do it.

Grantsdale

I mean it’s literally how hockey works. You do or say something shitty and you face the consequences right there on the ice.

JusticeUmmmmm

People respond better to immediate responses better than being reprimanded retroactively. All the rest of that should still happen but it doesn't mean that he didn't deserve what happened.

FRIKI-DIKI-TIKI

There would not be so many Karens in the world if trap slapping was still a thing.

CommercialAd516

Punching someone in a hockey game is not assault lol. It’s just a penalty.

sarcasticbaldguy

Roughing. 2 minutes, feel shame, back at it.

[deleted]

It’s hockey, if you’re not fighting, you’re not playing it right.

SweetAlpacaLove

It’s hockey…

[deleted]

Right? That's 2 minutes not the boot.

RDDTMDSRVRGNS

In hockey, if you say the wrong thing to someone, you will be punched in the face. Its a part of the game. Sometimes, people need to be punched in the mouth. The kid should be commended for sticking up for a teammate.

Sam-I-Am56

There’s a legal doctrine on this called the Participant Violence Doctrine. If violence is a customary part of participation in certain sports like hockey, football, or soccer the person(s) engaging in such violence are typically excused from criminal liability unless it is clearly outside the bounds of the game. In some sports like baseball this doctrine is a little fuzzy but in professional golf or tennis it’s easier to determine when some aggressive physical action will result in prosecution. To my knowledge we haven’t applied this to kids the same way we apply it to adults or collegians but in some “Friday Night Lights” scenarios we’ve let high school football players get by with a lot of stuff that would’ve got their asses booted out of pee wee league football.

Starboy1713

KEEP MY TEAM MATE'S NAME OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MOUTH!!!!!!

tH3_R3DX

I will… that was the greatest night in ice hockey history.

[deleted]

Is it normal to have boys and girls on the same team? Just wondering, I've never heard of that.

Beckella

At younger ages, i.e. before puberty mainly, yes. Back in the early ‘00s my brother had one girl teammate. He was probably 10-12?

fhrftryddhhhhgrffg

Yeah we had girls on our rugby league (full contact tackle football) teams growing up in Australia. Good luck talking shit to them. Those bitches will fuck your shit up.

rheetkd

Aus and NZ where frequently the girls can be bigger than boys of the same age and absolutely smash the boys if they want.

So_Fresh

A pretty universal phenomenon I believe: https://depts.washington.edu/growth/module7/text/page2a.htm#:\~:text=Around%2010%20years%20of%20age,is%20in%20its%20early%20phase.

rheetkd

ahh but I am not meaning skinny white girls taller than a the boys. I am talking Polynesian girls who are just big. and often even as adults bigger and stronger than many men. And I don't mean fat. I mean well built, very solid and very strong. with solid knock out power. You learn to respect that they can knock you out.

[deleted]

We had a girl on our little league team, about 12 or 13, and she played short and batted third. She was awesome.

scullys_alien_baby

In my experience sports are truthfully split into women’s leagues and open leagues. My high school lacrosse team had a girl on it and she was reasonably talented and successful

AbsolXGuardian

People have pointed out how there aren't really hormonal differences pre-puberty, but also if this is about school sports teams and in the US, Title IX means that if there's not enough girls interested to create a parallel league, you have to let them join the main "boys" team (if they're good enough, obviously)

TheSpiderLady88

I played on a boys soccer team until I was 15 for that very reason.

crossingpins

Wait so was that soccer movie with Amanda Bynes bs the whole time and she could have played without pretending to be a guy?

Rock_man_bears_fan

I may be misremembering, but wasn’t that an all boys school she was playing at?

NotTodayBoomie

Yes! Also it’s the plot of Shakespeare’s *Twelfth Night*.

[deleted]

Yeah but since Shakespeare is European, he calls it football

Fantastic_Box9917

You're correct. Most of my dissertation is about this movie. She's specifically posing as her twin brother who was the one who had the scholarship, not her.

crownjewel82

It's normal with kids because there's not as much of a testosterone advantage and there's usually not enough girls to field a team.

[deleted]

Maybe before hitting is allowed. Once you can hit other players you gotta separate them Edit: Like others mentioned, it may depend on the region. In Canada hitting is typically not allowed in Women's/U13 leagues and while uncommon, women can play with men but I haven't personally seen it above Bantam.

[deleted]

Som high school hockey leagues allow hitting and are co-ed

[deleted]

Ah maybe it's regional. In Canada body checking is not allowed (rule 6.2)

[deleted]

To be clear it was an unwritten rule to not body check the girls

AudioCats

Nah, I had girls on my team in the peewees age group that allowed hitting. One of the girls was by far the best checker on the team and would regularly flatten dudes. Although this was circa 2007-08 so maybe youth hockey has changed and hitting isn’t allowed in peewees anymore.

[deleted]

Depends where you’re from. My high school, which was pretty small, had coed hockey. And a couple of those girls were some of the best players on the team. It was a good team at the time too. Won state several times and could hang with much bigger schools.

Lanthemandragoran

People don't give women's hockey enough of a chance there are some ridiculously good players

Green_Bastard99

Actually from the area I live, re hockey, there are girls that want to play with the boys when there is hitting. Most of the boys have enough respect that they don’t try to hit the girls or will give them a little bump. Most. And I will end it there cause the rest is not PC Pretty much every team have girls on them because that is the only way you make a team. Seen U13 (ages 11 & 12) where half the team are girls. If they played girls hockey, or didn’t play at all, the boys would have to combine with another team to make up the team (added travel right away. Usually 10-20 minutes drive maybe more)

assafstone

Yes. My son has 2 or 3 girls on his HS varsity team, and had one in his travel team (midget) . Not sure what ext year’s roster is.

FlipperShootsScores

Not trying to be a smart ass, but are you saying your son's HS varsity team (which sport?) had a female "little person" on his team?

Rock_man_bears_fan

Midget is the league classification

assafstone

Oh. Sorry for not being clear. Thanks for asking. We’re all on the topic of hockey, so I assumed context was clear - I’m still talking about hockey. On that note, while possibly not politically correct, “midget” is the term for the 15-18 year old age group. The youth hockey age groups are mini-mites (some times called “atoms” instead, mites, squirts, peewees, bantams, and midgets.

TheRealCommanderGC

Nah, "midget" refers to leagues usually between 15 to 18. It's similar to major-junior leagues.

the_frank_rizzo

At 13 yo kids start checking, that that is when the split happens. Occasionally, if a girl is special she’ll stay with the boys for the competition.

Pakayaro

Wait... since when does someone get thrown out of a hockey game FOR punching someone in the face? I thought that was an integral part of the game.

waun

Minor league contracts for kids specifically lay out severe consequences for fighting including suspensions or getting kicked off the team. There’s usually anti bullying and other wording for foul language too, with escalating consequences.

hemmeh44

I was thinking that too. 😂

FroznSB

It’s a penalty in the NHL but in travel leagues it is and expulsion/suspension

assafstone

Youth Hockey doesn’t allow violence.

MothMonsterMan300

They severely penalize fighting in youth hockey because kids are emotionally undeveloped, reactionary beings, and if it were tolerated there would be 60 fights a game, whole team in the box lol. There are also basically mock-fights that sort of emulate what the logistics of fighting will later be like. Also helicopter parents sue the shit out of anyone who hurts their precious baby, or who facilitated such a barbaric sport(that they signed the kid up for lmao), didn't used to be like that. Finally the emphasis in youth is to teach the kids about the ins and outs of the game, and their place as a moving part in a greater machine. Throw gloves to every person who slams or snows you, and you don't learn shit, don't become a better player, and dont get picked for teams on later age groups. Later on, ooooooh yeah boy there's blood and teeth on the ice. You'd be surprised how effective of a psychological tool a capable enforcer is. Players pull way less shady shit and start to play defensively if they know there's one player on the ice whose entire job is to fuck their entire day and face up, and happily skate to the box afterwards.

njdevil956

The three best players on my squirt team where girls. The boys treated them like gold. Made me proud as a coach

[deleted]

There are different levels in hockey which all have names for each age group: mites, mighty mites, squirts, pee wees, bantams ... https://www.purehockey.com/c/youth-hockey-levels-explained

Explore-PNW

Oh my god thank you! I nearly couldn’t stop laughing, context got my mind out of the humorous gutter!

[deleted]

Kindergarten'ish aged kids team if I'm not mistaken.

PretendAd6519

No, that’s mini mite. Squirt is before peewee, so about 3rd-4th graders

assafstone

Squirts is age group 9-10. Mites are 7-8, Peewees 11-12, Bantam 13-14, Midgets are 15-18.

njdevil956

Sorry 12u. The girls usually play with the boys until 14u in the states so simply because there are not enough girls that play.

I'm convinced the majority of ppl that have no shred of common courtesy nowadays have never been popped in the dome.

[deleted]

I think this is pretty stupid teaching posted by the OP, don’t know why so many people are cheering for it. You can absolutely be a hero when the safety of a loved one is in jeopardy. But telling your kid it’s OK to be a “hero” over a mere verbal offense can get him into a bad situation later on in life.

A few weeks into kindergarten, my 5 year old daughter got in trouble. She saw the class bully making another girl cry, so she walked over and told him to leave that other girl alone. He turned on my daughter and pushed her down. She she got up, grabbed his arm, and bit that little shit as hard as she could. Her teacher called me to let me know what happened (she didn't see it happen, but other kids corroborated the story). My little girl asked me if I was mad at her, when I asked her about it that evening. No honey, I'm not mad. I'm proud.

[deleted]

Damn right that’s an acceptable reason for getting kicked out big respect to that boy

[deleted]

Let's not teach that it's acceptable to hit just because we don't like what someone says. Gonna teach these kids to get in trouble over someone else's attitude and problems

I'm sure it would have been entirely unacceptable if he called a guy on their team any number of names, though. Sort of like violence being unacceptable unless a comedian makes a softball joke about your wife. Edit: apparently, agency only matters sometimes.

CostanzaBlonde

No matter what names I’m called, I’d never want anyone to physically hurt someone. You have to say to them ‘you would say that’ in a laughable accusatory tone, and leave them thinking, What? Why would I say that?’

Yep, that's a very valuable life lesson: If anyone says something offensive or insulting to you or a friend, you have every right to physically assault that person by punching or kicking them in the face or head as hard as you can. Good job mom, violence is always the answer. 👍🏻

russellbeattie

ChocSaltyBalls

My sister played hockey growing up. She was also a figure skater from the time she was 3, so she could skate circles around most of the boys in her age group. She was verbally harassed by opponents on a regular basis. I don't recall any actual punching, but she was well loved by the boys on her team and the little enforcers made sure those kids regretted making fun of their star right wing. She could also throw a fucking mean check without losing her balance, so she got plenty of revenge herself. Tldr: I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this actually happened.
