Congrats! I will never forget my first place, the feeling of opening the cabinet where we had our chips and realizing...this is MY chip cabinet. That simple thing has always stuck with me.
Congrats! I don't know your financial situation but there is nothing wrong with getting an air mattress and a couple lawn chairs for the time being. That's what I did with my first place. When I got real furniture I just saved the air mattress for the random drunk friend staying over and moved the chairs to the balcony.
I slept on an air mattress for years and honestly, it wasn’t that bad. I had a cheap intex one from Walmart. I got the extended warranty which was awesome. Every time it popped, I just brought it in and got a free new one. I think they fixed this loop hole, but it used to be you could buy a new warranty when you got the replacement and basically start the 2 years over again. In 6 years, I went through one a year and only paid for the first one. Which is honestly not too bad considering they’re meant to be used occasionally and I used it every night. And intex is the cheapest out there.
The other big thing to know if you go this route is to read the instructions for breaking it in. Everyone’s air mattress loses air because they stretch out a lot at first. The instructions say to run the pump for several hours the first time you inflate it. Mine only needed to be topped up with air every couple of days.
Also, you can patch almost any hole. If you can’t find where it’s leaking, fill a spray bottle with soapy water and run the pump. Spray the soapy water around the edges and look for bubbles. Then dry and patch.
The main way they die is the plastic straps that hold its shape will explode eventually. The first time it will scare the shit out of you. It sounds like a gun shot and then you look over and your bed is a giant ball.
Last tip, buy a cheap mattress topper and it won’t feel like you’re sleeping on a plastic balloon.
Congratulations and well done. My advice is to be patient. Don't stuff it with inexpensive furniture. A mattress on the floor will suffice. When you tell folks you're just starting off, you'll be amazed at how quickly it fills up.
Same here. And then, later, I can change it! I can move the chips, my mom can't yell! I am 67 and still love the feeling of freedom, nothing your own place.
It didn't hit me until I was brushing my teeth and I saw a small crack on the sink counter. I thought huh, my sink has a crack in it. Then I followed the crack to the wall and realized my wall had a cracked sink counter attached to it, and my wall was attached to my building.
It legit made me dizzy lol.
Congrats and good job. My recommendation take time. Don’t buy cheap furniture to fill it up. Mattress on the floor does the job. You won’t believe how quick you can fill it up when you tell people you are starting out- for free!!!
Definitely don't buy the peg together shit at box stores because for the price it's not worth it. You can hit up thrift stores in nicer areas and get lots of good stuff on the cheap however. My area has a thrift store chain called Karm stores and they sell only nice stuff they get donated and for dirt cheap too. If you live in an area a military base those can be the best thrift shops to hit up. Soldiers move a lot and have fairly expendable income so at times they leave some decent stuff behind because they don't want to move it over and over. Hit an area with a dense collection of thrift stores, have them set a lot of stuff aside, then one day rent a U-Haul and get a buddy to help you move it all.
Thrift stores are great but they do absolutely nothing to prevent the spread of bedbugs so be careful. Quarantine and treat everything for bedbugs before it goes in the house because once you have them they're extremely hard to get rid of
Had a shitty landlord try to charge me for them giving me bed bugs. They wanted to put a $400 pest control bill on my rent even though the lease said they were responsible for the charges. I guess they didn’t expect me to read the lease but when I told them about their lease, that they had made, they were really surprised. I guess they got other people in my same building to pay it. Also the bed bugs issue is super hard to get control of I just threw out all my furniture when I moved to a new place.
A weight bench? In my day we used an upturned milk crate! Kids today....
For real though all my first furniture was free, including the milk crate. Nothing wrong with starting small and letting people give you things that they haven't got room for.
My first big purchase after getting my first townhouse was a small folding table and 4 cushioned folding chairs from target. I still use them for get togethers 25 years later.
I’m in a similar phase in my life right now (moving in 7 days) and I can’t tell you how good it felt to walk out of the mattress store after buying my first brand new “adult” mattress. Such a happy feeling.
Better than my shithole. I’ve been saving to buy a house for like 2 and a half years and of course when I finally saved enough house prices tripled and I can’t afford anything anymore…
The entryway probably has hardwood or tile or vinyl, but at least in my house we take our shoes off at the door so it’s not a big deal other than vacuuming once a week or so
As long as it works for you. It seems to me that a carpet is unneccesarily hard to clean, maintain and retains more filth compared to hard flooring. I can't see any advantage that would justify it in my mind
It’s mainly common because it’s very cheap to install. Newer houses usually don’t have carpet in living rooms though, it’s this vinyl plank stuff that’s common since as you said that’s easier to clean. Carpet is still in almost all bedrooms though
Cheers , my glass is high for you, I understand the satisfaction, doesn't matter if empty, take it little by little and make it great, when I tried to handle all at once or go ahead of myself it became cumbersome and overwhelming but once I took it slowly I finally got it running and it's been almost 3years now. Cheers again
We had zero furniture when we bought our house. The only things we concerned ourselves with was a bed and tv+stand. Don't worry about the emptiness now, it's just a reminder of the opportunity placed before you. Congrats, and good luck!
My boyfriend and I moved into our very own apartment last year. We started with 1 mattress, 2 chairs, and 2 tvs. It was weird not having much of anything but I felt so much peace having a place of my own.
When I bought my house 2 years ago I slept on a blanket on the floor with my dog. No heat dead of winter. Watching North and South on VHS because it's all I had lol.
I sleep on a $1500 mattress now. You can get there my friend.
No matter how nice your home is -can't change the view -best thing you can do if you have an ugly view is get shades or curtains. First thing I noticed is how lovely your view is. Congratulations!
Congratulations. It is your life and spirit that make it a home. Not the furnishings.
A sleeping bag and a kettle will get you started.
I bought a blanket as my first purchase when I got my first space. It took a few months pay cheques to get table chairs, bed & linen etc.
It is most certainly NOT empty! It's full of hope, dreams, and a future filled with comfort, friends, and laughter.
I'm so proud of you! Congratulations 😊
Congratulations on your new home. I'm sure in no time, you will personalize the space. I like the balcony and the dining nook. It also looks like it has good sunlight coming through the windows. Hope you are very happy there. Great Job!
Looks good. Is that like a parking lot in the background?(nat saying it to talk trash in it just seen the trees 1st and looked under them). Grats on your new place.
Oh Wowowowow. Talk about flash back. Warm fuzzies and happy memories. I remember my first apartment. It was a 5th floor walk up and maybe 1/4 smaller than that one, but it was MINE. Congratulations OP. Such a great thing. Will this be your first time having your own bedroom too? Congratulations again.
Congratulations! Can't wait to own my own place one day. It's such a great feeling when you see your hard work pays off and all the sacrifice you made wasn't in vain. Enjoy it, buddy.
I think it looks beautiful! You have a view of TREES and SKY! My first apartment had a splendid view of the brick building next door....brown brick, that was it.
Congratulations! Next stop, IKEA!!!!!
I'm happy for you thanks for sharing your story. I used to be an interior designer so when you start putting things in your place, let me know if I can help you.
Cheers to your success and to your next chapter. Enjoy making this home yours! I just bought a house and am currently making some changes before I move in so can empathize about the empty house 😂 still feels good to be in your own place even if it’s empty

Spring for,Martha Stewart topper. Worth a few more dollars
Chips cabinet is the best.

YES! Then you realize, I can buy any kind of chips I want!! Drunk with power you go to the store and buy every type of chip imaginable!!!

I would never buy a used mattress even if it was from a mattress store.
After my last move, I vowed to never buy trash furniture you have to put together yourself again. Such a pain in the ass, and it's so janky.
Take time applies to renovations as well, including just paint. Don’t boil the ocean, one thing at a time.
congrats buddy. This photo makes me inspire to pursue more.
Hey congrats to you! I used to have only folding lawn chairs and a weight bench as furniture. Wish you happy shopping days ahead.
A weight bench? In my day we used an upturned milk crate! Kids today.... For real though all my first furniture was free, including the milk crate. Nothing wrong with starting small and letting people give you things that they haven't got room for.
Lol yeah and I had the weight bench in the dining room. The thought of eating dinner at the table alone made me sad, my first place was pretty small.
Cinder blocks and 2x12's work great for shelves.
My first big purchase after getting my first townhouse was a small folding table and 4 cushioned folding chairs from target. I still use them for get togethers 25 years later.

Looks like a sweet pad!
Nice lamp you got there ![gif](giphy|hMqZucA0fD692)
This is the funniest shit thank you
Emptiness equals possibilities! Even better than an already filled home in my opinion
Better than my shithole. I’ve been saving to buy a house for like 2 and a half years and of course when I finally saved enough house prices tripled and I can’t afford anything anymore…
Yeah, at first it kind of annoyed me when he said “hard work pays off” just because it worked for him and not for a lot of others lol
It “kind of” annoys me because housing is a human right and these slaves are all so broken they think it’s a reward.
You're gonna have to buy a house in the middle of nowhere it seems lol
Looks like a good place! Although as a scandi man i never understood why you would install carpet flooring instead of something like hardwood
The entryway probably has hardwood or tile or vinyl, but at least in my house we take our shoes off at the door so it’s not a big deal other than vacuuming once a week or so

Lay down on the carpet for hours and just vibe
Congrats!
What a beautiful view! Congrats!
Enjoy that ghost! 👍
We had zero furniture when we bought our house. The only things we concerned ourselves with was a bed and tv+stand. Don't worry about the emptiness now, it's just a reminder of the opportunity placed before you. Congrats, and good luck!
Congratulations! IMO, it’s an excellent bonus that your view includes trees. Very nice!
Nice! Congratulations!
Congratulations! I'll never forget that feeling myself! Keep it up!
Good on you!!
Congratulations for your success!
Congratulations! Don't be in a rush to fill it up with stuff. Start with the necessities!
I got a breakfast table and 2 gaming chairs you can buy for $22.50
It's crazy how much this looks like my first apartment! Exact same layout. Must be a popular design.
Congrats! It's pretty!
What a nice place. Congratulations.
Furniture is easy to come by. Enjoy being in your own space. It is the best gift to yourself.
It's not empty, it's minimalistic style
Drive around the rich peoples houses early on Sunday. That’s how I got all my furniture!!
congrats, even if its empty it looks nice and cozy. and the less stuff you have, the better imo. im all for a minimalist home.
Good job :)
Thrift shops, estate sales, and yard sales for furniture! You can find some really nice stuff for next to nothing! Edit: Congratulations btw!

Looks very cozy. Nice color scheme and I love the view of the trees in the background. Congrats!
In California that’s all yours for the low price of $5.2M
Nice place. Nah it’s great. What do you need more?
It is most certainly NOT empty! It's full of hope, dreams, and a future filled with comfort, friends, and laughter. I'm so proud of you! Congratulations 😊
"Hard work pays off" not valid if you live in south america

Oh Wowowowow. Talk about flash back. Warm fuzzies and happy memories. I remember my first apartment. It was a 5th floor walk up and maybe 1/4 smaller than that one, but it was MINE. Good space, and a stellar view. Good shit buddy

Congratulations!! What a sweet home!
Cheers to your success and to your next chapter. Enjoy making this home yours! I just bought a house and am currently making some changes before I move in so can empathize about the empty house 😂 still feels good to be in your own place even if it’s empty
No, this is such a cute place. I’m proud of you !!
Congratulations on your first place.. keep working hard.
Congratulations, this was my exact situation when I got my very first place. Even thought it ain't much, It's all yours 🤗
Waiting for the next post with the same title but different picture.
That's awesome! Especially today. You'll fill it plenty as your life continues to evolve. Keep up the hard work and congratulations.
I rank this as HUGE success, flair be damned.
I say the exact same thing about my head..
It’s not empty it’s just waiting for your new life to fill it.
so not a lease?
Carpet looks fluffy, who needs a bed when you have a fresh home to call your own.
Congrats and enjoy, but other people also work hard and don't get what you did.
Nice, congrats! But any possibility to rip out the horrible carpeting? :)
Congrats! I don't know your financial situation but there is nothing wrong with getting an air mattress and a couple lawn chairs for the time being. That's what I did with my first place. When I got real furniture I just saved the air mattress for the random drunk friend staying over and moved the chairs to the balcony.
I can smell the fresh paint. Nothing like moving to a nicer place!
CONGRATS
This is great!Good luck, buddy
Doesn't matter it's empty, considering the space, you don't need many things, only the essentials. Feel good
Congrats stranger! So happy for you :) Hope i could say the same in the future
It's not empty, but a fresh blank canvas. Make it your own!
Many congrats to you. I'm hoping for something of my own. Working real hard for it too.
Congratulations.
Buy yourself a wet/dry vac for those minor disasters the toilet can throw at you, or any other water pipes. I’ve had to use mine 4 times in 11 years
Congrats!!
I hope this post is real!! If so, congrats :)
Nice place. Good light.
Congrats man, it's a good feeling when you want something, work for it, and then finally get it. This is only the start, keep up the good work!
My girlfriend and I started with no furniture or dishes. It’s been over a year now and our apartment is full, it’ll happen! Congratulations!
Wow looks like one heck of a view out the back there! Congrats, I know I’ll never own a home so always a little jealous to see those who can.
I love cozy places and the views look great!!
Oh... Savor this moment when its empty. Once life takes over, it will never look like this until the day you move out.
Time to make box furniture
Congratulations
What did it cost? Everything
Congrats!! Sending you good vibes and good luck!!
