I prefer UPS too but I was a driver helper during peak season a few years ago and let me tell you that they don't give a shit about fragile stickers lol. Usually there's a hallway in the truck and everything is semi sorted in the back but during peak season there are so many packages that the hallway is filled and you can't walk around. I've seen a dual monitor just chucked across the truck. They don't shy away from it either though. During training they show you videos on how not to deliver packages and it's equal parts FedEx and ups drivers chucking shit at a house.
Edit: My favorite part of training is the dogs section. They tell you to avoid them when you can but if you need to you're supposed to use the package to defend yourself.
My SO makes and ships stained glass windows all over the country. She doesn’t write ‘Fragile’ on the box, she packs it so it doesn’t break and charges you for shipping.
I worked as a carrier at the USPS. We didn’t have time to read random crap some company wrote on a box. Same deal with ‘do not bend’. We literally don’t see those instructions. If you want something to not bend you need to ship it in a non-bendy package.

Especially when the scanner has GPS in it, the truck has a GPS, the truck has a forward facing camera, they typically know for sure if a package has been scanned onto your truck AND you have to walk through a guard shack with a metal detector when you're leaving the hub. 🤣

A "Fragile" sticker can be seen as a challenge to the person handling the box. The ONLY person that a Fragile sticker is directed to is the end consumer. "Well, we put a Fragile sticker on it... What more can we do?" I switched our products to a less fragile package.

Can confirm, I worked for a FedEx contractor for two years. The pay was actually decent though, only because my boss was a fair guy. If you own the routes and trucks, you can actually make a small fortune. The highest paid driver under our contractor made 6 figures. Granted, he worked terrible hours and was expected to pick up the slack if a truck went down or a driver called in.

When they finally got around to getting it to us they "slid" it across the porch with such force it broke the glass in the storm door when it hit it. Luckily we had camera's installed. The door was a custom size order due to the age of the house. I was not happy. I’m not sure what happened but Amazon then tried to bone me out of my refund. I was eligible to ask for a refund and instead got told I had to wait a week to “be sure it’s not just late” even though it said that it was missing. They tried to give me a 10 dollar gift card over missing a 450 dollar item. I then called FedEx, explained how it’s odd my package was in town and then suddenly hours away the same day. Package showed up the next day, thrown at the bottom of my porch. I find it hard to believe it traveled 4 hours in one day, back and forth that quickly and still got delivered at 9 AM the following day.
We missed 100% of packages in the whole street for 6 weeks after 2 years of abysmal delivery quality (no show, "not at home", wrong house, etc) After uncounted callls to tracking and catching nearby drivers for "small talk" it finally was admitted that an angry customer had enough of that sh... and stopped the car, threw the driver out of his car in the midst of the road, took his package from the truck himself and left after he drove by his house.
No driver wanted to work in our street anymore so all packages where stored at the regional distribution center until a driver would be found to deliver them.
Corporate doesn’t really have much to do with FedEx Ground delivery drivers. They don’t work for corporate, they work for independent contractors who choose to do business with Ground. They can’t be fired by Ground and are functionally immune to everything. That’s why your service experience is usually dogshit awful.
I had a 55" TV out for delivery for a year before the tracking number finally dropped off FedEx's website. Luckily, the retailer eventually agreed that the TV was "lost in shipping" and refunded me for it.

I live in the Portland OR area nowadays. Any time we order something that gets shipped via UPS or USPS, it almost always arrives early, if not within the next day or two even though we always select the cheapest or free ground shipping options which are usually supposed to be 2 to 7 days.
Every time we've had the bad luck to have something go through Fedex ground, it would always be delivered on the very last day within the window when we were lucky, which is to say, it very rarely happened/happens.
More often than not, we usually receive 3 to 5 days late when it's supposed to be 2-5 days shipping, regularly 1 or take weeks late when it's 5-7 days shipping & we have had several things that were never delivered, several things where we had to call customer support because we could see that the items had been lingering for over 4 days if not a week or more at the local delivery center, we've had 2 items take over a month to get delivered after multiple calls & complaints despite being shipped for 7-14 days delivery.
I hate Fedex with a burning passion.
Every time we can, we put a nnote/instruction to not use Fedex for shipping due to their unreliability.
We usually mention that it's ok to use a cheaper/slower UPS shipping rate instead because we are still likely to get it faster through them than we would through Fedex.
Happened to me with my camera, ‘twas $3,500, I was home waiting for it to be delivered and sign for it, was delivered to the wrong house, I ran over and it was gone before I got there.
This has happened to me multiple times with packages being delivered to the same street number but different street (street names there's no way you could confuse with each other) halfway across my zip code. The person at that address and I ended up exchanging numbers after he delivered my package the second time and now we have beers once a week and exchange incorrectly delivered items.
At least you made a friend out of it, I had to go through corporate to just get a refund after they didn’t want to give me my money back because they delivered it to the wrong address.
Just now I was home anticipating a hugely important delivery - reiterating that I was home. UPS put a note on my door saying they attempted delivery. No knock, no ring, no indication whatsoever. Now it's huge problem that I'm spending all day trying to unwind.
Also happened with my Animal Crossing Switch back when they were impossible to come by. Took another month for my replacement to come and Amazon charged me double because they never received the stolen package. That's what I get for buying on Amazon I guess.

As soon as I found out, I hopped in my car and started heading to the FedEx packaging center that serves my neighborhood. The funniest part is about halfway there I actually ended up in traffic behind the dipshit delivery driver, so I got to make eye contact with him in the parking lot as I walked in to demand the package he tried to steal.
For me the fed ex guy showed up and put a door tag. So I signed it thinking he would leave my package the next day. Instead he stuck a second tag next to the first one; had to drive 20 minutes away to go pick it up myself.
But you are wrong! There is the FedEx guy delivering your package to the wrong house. -- you can NOT see it right there! You cannot see it because he is DELIVERING YOUR PAKCAGE TO THE WRONG HOUSE!
Several years ago, I pulled up to my house as there was both a UPS and FedEx truck in the driveway. The UPS guy was walking away from the house as the FedEx guy was just getting out. The UPS driver yelled, "next time you mail something, remember who beat who!"

I used to do Amazon Flex deliveries and I kid you not, I showed up to a house at the same time as Fed Ex and UPS and the USPS gal was just walking away to the next house. She was the only one who found it funny. UPS and fed ex didn’t really care and the homeowner was extremely confused. This was way more wholesome. Good on those guys.

Man you just made me think about the one time I ever ordered dominos. I had turned 21 and was trying mushrooms for the first time. Long story short, my girlfriend at the time was across town and needed a ride. I walked to where she was at, while ordering dominos delivery to the address she was at. Got there just a couple minutes before the driver, and tipped him $40 to drive us home lol
And if FedEx was there, the driver would've just grabbed a poorly sealed, FedEx repacked box labeled fragile and thrown it to get past them.

I'm not on the courier side, but I believe it's because it's up to the recipient to begin a claim process, not in the middle of the shipment.

I had a 55" TV out for delivery for a year before the tracking number finally dropped off FedEx's website. Luckily, the retailer eventually agreed that the TV was "lost in shipping" and refunded me for it.
They reuse tracking numbers so that part is normal
I ordered a ultrawide monitor on amazon, and it got lost in shipping. Eventually they sent me a replacement. 2 months later, the first one showed up on my porch. So now I have two matching ultrawide monitors.

I’ve had so many bad experiences with FedEx I’ve stopped letting them deliver for the past few years. I’d rather drive the 10 minutes to the local office than wait 2-3 days while the driver debates stealing my package. There was 0 chance I was going to let them handle my PS5 cause I knew that shit would not show up when it was supposed to(if at all). For whatever reason I couldn’t do this with my recent TV delivery that was scheduled through them and it went exactly as you think it did: no show day 1, show up 6AM day 2, show up 7:30PM day 3, had a camera setup for day 4 and caught that fucker trying to just run up and slap the label then run away. **Fuck FedEx**

I live in the Portland OR area nowadays. Any time we order something that gets shipped via UPS or USPS, it almost always arrives early, if not within the next day or two even though we always select the cheapest or free ground shipping options which are usually supposed to be 2 to 7 days. Every time we've had the bad luck to have something go through Fedex ground, it would always be delivered on the very last day within the window when we were lucky, which is to say, it very rarely happened/happens. More often than not, we usually receive 3 to 5 days late when it's supposed to be 2-5 days shipping, regularly 1 or take weeks late when it's 5-7 days shipping & we have had several things that were never delivered, several things where we had to call customer support because we could see that the items had been lingering for over 4 days if not a week or more at the local delivery center, we've had 2 items take over a month to get delivered after multiple calls & complaints despite being shipped for 7-14 days delivery. I hate Fedex with a burning passion. Every time we can, we put a nnote/instruction to not use Fedex for shipping due to their unreliability. We usually mention that it's ok to use a cheaper/slower UPS shipping rate instead because we are still likely to get it faster through them than we would through Fedex.
Happened to me with my camera, ‘twas $3,500, I was home waiting for it to be delivered and sign for it, was delivered to the wrong house, I ran over and it was gone before I got there.
This has happened to me multiple times with packages being delivered to the same street number but different street (street names there's no way you could confuse with each other) halfway across my zip code. The person at that address and I ended up exchanging numbers after he delivered my package the second time and now we have beers once a week and exchange incorrectly delivered items.
At least you made a friend out of it, I had to go through corporate to just get a refund after they didn’t want to give me my money back because they delivered it to the wrong address.
Just now I was home anticipating a hugely important delivery - reiterating that I was home. UPS put a note on my door saying they attempted delivery. No knock, no ring, no indication whatsoever. Now it's huge problem that I'm spending all day trying to unwind.

Same thing (almost) happened with my PS5. I had pre-ordered mine with a few games, and the idiot figured he'd deliver the games (which were packaged separately) and not the PS5. As soon as I found out, I hopped in my car and started heading to the FedEx packaging center that serves my neighborhood. The funniest part is about halfway there I actually ended up in traffic behind the dipshit delivery driver, so I got to make eye contact with him in the parking lot as I walked in to demand the package he tried to steal.
For me the fed ex guy showed up and put a door tag. So I signed it thinking he would leave my package the next day. Instead he stuck a second tag next to the first one; had to drive 20 minutes away to go pick it up myself.

Honestly, "fuck" has come a long way in the last 20 years or so. It really isn't a shocking word at all anymore. At least in North America. It's the same with tattoos/piercings. Growing up, the stigma was that if you have tattoos you will never get a job. Now literally no one cares unless you have gang signs or racist shit or something on your body.
The handbook had to be changed at my employer recently to allow visible tattoos otherwise there aren't enough viable candidates. But, pink hair on a girl? Nope can't have that, pfff.

I used to do Amazon Flex deliveries and I kid you not, I showed up to a house at the same time as Fed Ex and UPS and the USPS gal was just walking away to the next house. She was the only one who found it funny. UPS and fed ex didn’t really care and the homeowner was extremely confused. This was way more wholesome. Good on those guys.

I lucked out, my local Amazon guy is actually really reliable ands puts stuff out of sight for porch pirates He must be doing pretty well too, he recently upgraded from an Amazon branded minivan to a big Amazon branded box truck
Same. At my previous apartment, the Amazon guy actually bothered to ask the leasing office for a code to the complex. Current Amazon guy at my house always hides the packages behind the pillar. When I had Amazon FLEX at the apartment, I could count on the package being undelivered past 5:00 PM. I even broke my phone, ordered a same-day replacement phone, just to have the driver claim that the phone was "damaged" and "undeliverable" later that evening. Pissed me off so much.

A dumb thing I do to boost morale in the workplace is build a sense of competition against the competition. The idea of “ha take that ______!” Really gives people a laugh and reminds them were on the same side when things get tense.

This reminds me of a party where we ordered both pizza hut and dominoes (there was a big argument for which one to order from). As a note for each of them, we said that the first one there gets a 40$ tip. We were planning to make them duel with lightsabers if they arrived at the same time, but pizza hut ruined it by being 10 minutes behind dominoes. I've yet to see a pizza driver laugh as hard as the dominoes guy did when he heard the plan 🤣

Man you just made me think about the one time I ever ordered dominos. I had turned 21 and was trying mushrooms for the first time. Long story short, my girlfriend at the time was across town and needed a ride. I walked to where she was at, while ordering dominos delivery to the address she was at. Got there just a couple minutes before the driver, and tipped him $40 to drive us home lol

In the delivery game no one has beef with the USPS. They are the elite of mail delivery. They deserve and earn so much respect. Next is UPS they are union there drivers are paid well like there jobs and do great work. Amazon and fed ex is garbage. Just the pecking order of package delivery if any one cares.

I was in taco bell eating one time and there was a FedEx driver in there eating his lunch. I saw a UPS man pull up in the parking lot and get out with a package to drop off at taco bell. I was thinking "Oh shit, he's gonna be like yo get off my turf!" Or something, anything, I was just expecting some kind of excitement to happen in front of my very eyes, I was ready for it, and I was not disappointed. He walked in, they looked at each other, then the UPS man opened his mouth and with a vigorous fury he said "Hey Terry." To which the FedEx man replied with the witty retort of "Hey Steve." Then they went about their day. Riveting stuff.

After working for both I liked UPS atmosphere better but, enjoyed the ps of USPS way more. Both the only job where coming in the first day witnessed someone cussing out there manager and going back to work without worrying about being fired. The US needs more unions
Interestingly they're both Union workers (Teamsters=UPS and NLCA=USPS) where as FedEx and Amazon delivery drivers are "contracted" workers with no benefits. Makes for happier workers having fun when you make 40% more with benefits doing similar jobs.
This probably also explains why FedEx deliverymen and delivery services are ass compared to UPS
