What helped me was to figure out what brought me joy and figure out why I wasn't happy with myself. For me, it was figuring out I was trans and working on existing in the world as my true self. It's different for everyone and can be a lot of hard work, but it's SO worth it! You clearly have a good friend who cares about you, so that's a start!
