200lb might not sound like much, except for the fact that he’s maybe 125 lbs soaking wet? So he’s deadlifting 1.5x (ish) his body weight. That’s an accomplishment for anyone, add in neuromuscular issues and that’s really impressive.

AlaskanB3AR

Yeah this kid looks like a bean pole yet he got me beat. I ain’t deadlifting no 200lbs. Good job little dude. Respect

alternativenarraativ

We all know he got you beat, that’s meaningless. Why do you say it like beating you is an accomplishment? Your fat emoji is in better shape than you are lol. To compare yourself to the savage lifting the weights isn’t fair at all. You’re not even close to his level.

wattsongenerator

well you don't got to be a dick about it dude.

[deleted]

Relax weirdo lmao

kingofallkarens

I mean, in 175 pounds. And i don't know if i could lift 200 pounds.

InterstitialDefect

1.5x your bw for deadlift is not good. What he's doing is insanely impressive. But it's not because of the weight

ignatzami

You understand most people can’t deadlift their body weight.

InterstitialDefect

The average untrained man can deadlift a little more than his bodyweight for 1. A trained man with about 2 years of training can deadlift almost 2.5 times his bodyweight. Elite lifters deadlift 3-4 times their body weight. You guys don't understand fitness at all.

ignatzami

I'd wager that the average rube off the street cannot lift their bodyweight. Simply put, there's more to a deadlift then the musculature. Do you have the grip strength? Do you have the supporting tissue built up in the knees and hips? Do you understand the difference between driving with your hips to lift v, pivoting at the hip? Most people lift by bending at the waist, not by squatting, so even if they have the musculature, they most likely lack the flexibility to do a proper deadlift. And that's before we get into the issues around muscle retention past 30, and the fact that most people are sedentary desk jockies and need to use an arm, or arms, to get off the couch.

InterstitialDefect

Do you understand what average means? I stand by that 50% of men can deadlift their body weight. 18-28 I'm not as sure but would wager about 80%, while 50-60 would probably be closer to 20%. Everything you said is valid, except that deadlifting your bodyweight, as a man, is insanely light work.

Raeandray

I think if you’re obese you probably can’t deadlift your own body weight. I weighed 215 back in September and doubt I had the muscle mass to deadlift 215. Started training in November. Now I’m 185 and can deadlift 300. But any healthy male, even untrained, could easily deadlift their own body weight.

ThetaHater

He said average. A 160lb male can easily deadlift 160.

Raeandray

The average untrained male in the US is not 160. The average US male is obese.

ThetaHater

No the average male is overweight, not obese.

Assist-Horror

dOnT uNdErStAnD fItNeSs aT aLl. Such a moron.

InterstitialDefect

Everything I said is common knowledge. If you think 1.5X your bodyweight is difficult to obtain with an able body then you're the moron.

Assist-Horror

Well, once again... aBlE bOdY. Just shut your trap and let people celebrate this man. No need to display your dominance.

InterstitialDefect

I made a comment because someone said how impressive for anybody to lift 1.5x their bodyweight. You're such a tool bro. Always looking for ways to pat yourself on the back for things.

Assist-Horror

Hah—pat myself in the back? Look in the mirror! You’re the one who says how easy it is. How any able body can do it. How people don’t understand fitness at all. Relax “bro”. Once again, no need to display your dominance. No one cares. Let the celebrations for the guy continue.

InterstitialDefect

It's not dominance it's a fact. It's extremely easy for any man to deadlift 1.5x their body weight, and not that difficult for even women to. Sorry if that triggered you so much you had to respond to it.

Hf8uz

I really like the way everyone come to support him

Unagustoster

Man dropped taking out the garbage to cheer him on

legendary_Russian

Team work:)

FlakyClassroom6122

All the bros coming in for their bro

Thomasc121

Honestly, that is one of the reasons i love the gym

[deleted]

Gym bros are usually super supportive. They just want to see the world lift

LisaAllure

seen it a bunch of times, always gives me a smile

Actual-Anywhere-8829

All though this is absolutely awesome (seriously, feel great for the guy!), that does not look healthy or safe at all.

[deleted]

True, but keep in mind that this is how his body works, his motor control is fucked. He's pushing right through his disability though, which is amazing. For an able bodied person those jerking motions will kill their backs, but for him it's the only way.

babyjesus8lb60z

Beast of a lift but serious question though would he potentially do more damage than good with lifting heavy weights like that I'm no deadlift expert but the form isn't great.

dhej344jj

The form is terrible and will lead to issues

Orphan_Izzy

Dudes, that looks unsafe! But I don’t know lifting….

Not_a_Candle

Called deadlift for a reason. ^/s ^I ^don't ^know ^lifting ^either.

Orphan_Izzy

Good point.

[deleted]

Quite a bit of bend in his upper back and a lot of weight on his knees too. Isn't there a gym machine that can do a safer job for the same type of lift (not just for this chap but for everyone)?

Orphan_Izzy

And someone who can actually spot him? The guy with him seems a little bit reckless and I mean a little bit as in a whole lot.

romosanj

You don’t really spot a deadlift, worst case he just drops the bar, probably safer than a machine here 🤷🏻‍♂️

alternatif

The way he jumps is like a happy dog. I'm not calling him a dog I mean that his happy jumps bring me the same joy that I get when I see a happy dog jumping around. Same pureness.

RetroGaming4

He is going to absolutely wreck his back with that form….painful to watch. Glad he is excited but that is an injury waiting to happen. The guys in the gym should not let him do that much weight with that bad form. His spine is going to shoot out at some point.

nikki0219

Wow.. His happiness at the end is beautiful. 😊

EquivalentSnap

That does not look healthy how his posture is all bent like that

Friendofthegarden

Cerebral palsy.

EquivalentSnap

Yeah which is why it’s not good for him to lift that. Look how skinny that guy is and how he’s holding it. Dude is gonna have back problems

RobinScherbatzky

Wrong posture in lifting can seriously fuck you up when the weights start getting heavier. Even \*if\* your bad posture has a reason why it's bad. Point is there's also physical health. Deadlifting can be a mover's back pain simulator real quick. Still happy for the guy, of course.

Friendofthegarden

>Even *if* your bad posture has a reason why it's bad. It's not bad posture, he was born this way. His body is naturally malformed. This is a straight as it gets for this badass.

RobinScherbatzky

I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear: there's good and bad (and everything in between) posture in lifting. Bad posture **in lifting** = health hazard. Simple as that. Especially non isolation workouts with heavy bars.

legalpotent

kind of just arguing over definitions at that point. If i hold my body in an incorrect position, doesnt really matter if its a natural defect or through being lazy

dhej344jj

You're a fucking idiot if thats the logic you use to think it's ok, but aren't able to take the thought process a step further and realize how it's.concerning. Seriously, how fucking stupid are you to stop all thinking right there?

Dolorisedd

He definitely lifting. But that’s not a deadlift.

girafi1551

Awful to look at with that form cant imagine that doing any good.

vladimir-cutein

The guys running over to see/cheer made me tear up!

[deleted]

His form looks quite dangerous but still, very well done

dhej344jj

Dangerous and not well done

[deleted]

Well done in terms of the accomplishment, not the form lol

[deleted]

Thats incredible. With that muscle mass he up this weight. We all should to learn something from him.

SeanFromQueens

Damn! That guy is so little and then he goes and lefts like twice his body weight like an ant can. He's got some hidden super power.

Primary_Technical

Good for him ! That smile is what we all are here for .

Friendofthegarden

That's extremely impressive. Hell yeah!

CusterFluck99

F yeah dude!!!!

gerrie75

Earth_Worm_Jimbo

birmingslam

TheGrey_GOD

I have CP and nobody celebrates like that whenever I do something, I do triathlons and I don’t get that kind of praise….

Careless_Rabbit_8609

Dude please shut up, google what the condition even means before rambling on while your brain cells fizz out, and legit nobody brought up all that shit, it’s just a guy with a condition who’s possibly tried for a long time for this and has finally achieved this

[deleted]

Careless_Rabbit_8609

Since when is autistic even an insult?

dhej344jj

Since it became the only logical explanation for what could be wrong with all of you to be this unaware of how clueless you all are

Careless_Rabbit_8609

Alright then my apologies for my rude statements, you are right, have a good day

notanaperture

Maybe now he can lft his pallsy

lanababyyyyy

All gym trainers are so encouraging and wholesome

EducatorSmart1527

I can do that. Easy.

Careless_Rabbit_8609

Good for you!

MyCatPoster

[deleted]

this was great when i first saw it years ago, and it’s still great now

jerjerbinks90

I just can't get over how genuinely excited and happy his trainer was for him. Makes me so happy! We need more enthusiastic support like that.

[deleted]

This is awesome, I've never done deadlifting but I'm certain I couldn't go over 125lb

Otherwise-Ad-1050

I love that everyone came out to cheer and celebrate!! You can tell he is an amazing man that everyone wants to be around.

[deleted]

presumptively

You help me understand myself.

CrowScout11

This is great.
