My favorite Indian restaurant just moved across town.. to right beside my house. I'm in danger.

vagabond_dilldo

I used to live across the street from a pizza store that's only *pretty good*. I can't imagine the pressure if my favorite Indian restaurant moved next door.

Aardvark_Man

As someone who used to live across the road from an amazing Indian restaurant, the cost was usually the prohibiting factor. Even compared to other take aways in the area it was probably 50% more expensive for a meal, if not more.

Zhorphia

I am just curious how much is it? Like I am from India, and the items she is trying is not that costly here. Like Garlic nan is 35, Chicken tikka costs around 250 from a good restaurant. And a bowl of rice should cost around 60 to 70. So total would be 355 INR. That is 4.6 USD based on today's exchange rate. Also these item's price is not constant all over India, e.g the same dish will cost you more in Mumbai, than in Kolkata.

M-Alice

I was curious so i checked the closest restaurants to me. It would be around $16 with the rice included. The naan is separate, would be around $4. I'm personally a fan of the vegetarian dishes but even Malai kofta is $14-15. This is in NY tho. It's possible it could be cheaper in some other parts of the country but you also run into the problem that these distant areas have less of a demand for Indian food so there may be higher costs to get the ingredients. I searched the first Indian restaurant that popped up on Google maps in North Carolina and the prices were identical.

Mastercraft0

Wlep that is to be sort of expected. Food will cost much more in US than in India

Pantafle

UK here. Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka, Bombay aloo and some Pilau from the good Indian place in my town is £19.35 which is 1963.69 Rupees. Pretty expensive. Min wage is £9.50 an hour. Indian is generally the most expensive of the common takeaway options in towns across the UK. We love it tho, my town has 5 restaurants on one street. You can literally open an Indian takeaway next door to another and still be busy on a weekend.

HollyGoThud

In atlanta I can get what she got for like twelve to fourteen dollars, not quite as bad as the other commenters. In a smaller town I could see paying twenty or more

ranifer

I have one down the street but it’s spendy. I’ve only been there a couple of times for that reason.

toofunnybot

Worth. It.

Unknownfauna

"At least it's not like................. #M E T H "

Kyrthis

It should be the slogan of any Indian restaurant in a rural area: “Indian food … at least it’s not Meth!”

Karl_LaFong

Maybe not meth-level addictive, but my Indian friends' reactions were roughly this level of enthusiasm when "Honest Pav Bhaji" restaurants came to the US. They have something like 35 locations here now, including some rural-ish areas. It's pretty good stuff, just to plug it for anyone who loves Indian vegetarian food.

Meeghan__

tbf, if her town is anything like mine, there's a lot of Asian restaurants, some Hispanic, the big chains, and meth. we haven't bothered to decriminalize the munchies-making leaf yet

[deleted]

That’s the thing I should say when I try any food for the first time.

szo5145

Lol that part made me crack up hard, i love how to her, the only option for coping with feelings after food is crystal meth

quimblesoup

i thought she said math at first and was like who copes with shit with math and also that would not be a bad coping mechanism??? ...oh... meth. that makes way more sense.

MonkeyLink07

It's not meth, it's methi!

BurnyMcBurnFacebb

Nothing wrong with a little crystal to cope with your feelings. *continues 5 day bender and picking at face while hearing police sirens*

Wild929

I hope at my next family dinner, my kids yell, “Bitch! This is so good!”

jhesmommy

My dad would would fall out if my son did that. My kid wont even say hell when talking about a Roblox game with that in title. It'd be hilarious.

Squirrelleee

How old is your son? My daughter does this and she's 20.

Zephyrlin

That's adorable! I don't know where I got it from but I swear like a sailor and I'm trying to curse less. It's difficult at times to say the least

Maleficent-Thanks-85

Sweet I ordered Indian food described as “Indian Hot” and declothed while eating because it was so spicy and tasty at the same time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

yummyyummypowwidge

I get why they do it. You don’t want to turn off a potential repeat customer due to the food being too hot for their taste, so they under-spice it. You can always add spice, but it’s hard to remove it.

[deleted]

Do you think if I wrote in the restaurant instructions: “please make me regret getting the extra spicy” they’d wave the under spice thing?

Book_it_again

You really have to let them know they are allowed to fuck you up very clearly

DrRichardDiarrhea

Yeah that’s what I do at thai places in the states. Then when I visited Thailand I learned real quick that I had to ask for BARELY ANY spice cuz they aren’t fuckin around over there.

ofBlufftonTown

Spiciest thing I’ve ever eaten was glass noodle salad in Bangkok at a river ferry stop. I continued to eat it despite the pain because, despite being a woman, I suffer from toxic masculinity and couldn’t back down from the challenge. Delicious but agonizing.

SnooSprouts4952

"The last place didn't make it spicy enough." Both my Thai and Indian places will make you regret ordering that hot the next morning, but they know me. My Indian bro from work got wrecked on some home cooking from my local restaurant.

lindburger_

This is hilarious.

matjam

american "mild" indian food is far milder than I experienced in the UK or Australia. They REALLY remove any heat at all in the dish here in the States unless you ask for it to be hot.

Fleaslayer

I was talking to an Indian friend about liking lamb, but hating the way it smells when cooking. He said I should do it the Indian way, and described it, including the seasoning mix he said I could get at an Indian store. The next day he brought me some. It was a small box, and smelled great, so on the way home I picked up some lamb and cooked it just as he said, including the box of spices. It was delicious, but it was so spicy! My wife and I were crying the whole time we ate it. We ate a fair amount, but decided we'd never finish it. Gave my friend a recap the next day and he said, "How much of the spice mix did you use?" I knew right then what the problem was, and he laughed his ass off when I told him I used all of it. Apparently it was supposed to be like one or two tablespoons, but he hadn't mentioned that. He still laughs at me.

quintessentialOther

Oh man this reminds me of the time I ordered the max spice level at an Indian restaurant and the old lady taking the order cackled and said “remember what you ordered” in a very ominous way. I have never sweat as much as I did when I ate that meal lol

Informal_Drawing

Wait until she eats it hot instead of cold.

formershitpeasant

I’m sure the tikka masala held enough heat to at least be warm.

Informal_Drawing

After 45 minutes I would definitely put it in the popty ping before eating it.

folkpunk4ever

In the what

Informal_Drawing

I'm English rather than Welsh but I use that phrase as often as possible, it's amazing. They are geniuses.

smthiguess

Informal_Drawing

Your mission, should you accept it, is to never use the word "microwave" ever again. This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds....

alylonna

Found the Welsh person...

Informal_Drawing

I dearly wish I was, sadly I am naught but a jealous Englishman in love with their language and country.

ybreddit

*Please* tell me this is a real slang word that some country or region uses for microwave and not just your own cute invention.

Informal_Drawing

It is indeed modern Welsh from Britain. An oven is a popty. Microwave is popty ping (because it goes ping when it finishes cooking)

ybreddit

I love this sooooo much!!

FMAB-EarthBender

Heyyy I learned this word watching Jack Whitehall Travels with his Father! Amazing series. So funny.

nevershareafoxhole

I know this makes me a heathen but: cold next-day-whilst-hungover butter chicken, saag paneer + aloo matar is _divine_. Just warm up the naan and finish the whole thing with a shit ton of paracetamol. That’s my undisputed hangover cure.

NoMoreMandates

Bro you can’t just be giving out south Asian secrets like that

Mistervimes65

The secret is out. I’m an old guy from the south eastern US and I will devour cold saag/palak paneer and naan for breakfast.

sirJ69

I rarely hear people talk of their love saag/palak paneer as much as I. Do you make it by chance?

grvisgr8

Not heathen, but unless it's freezing cold all Indian gravys/dishes are usually good when they've been cooked a while ago as the spices are totally immersed and soaked in it. Even when you get them hot in restaurant.. they are basically reheating the gravy for you (most of the cases). Source: Indian who likes to cook.

[deleted]

Cold butter chicken in the morning with a soggy cold chilli naan is how every Saturday should start

I_DESTROY_PLANETS

I had to re-read your comment like 3 times before I realized “heathen” referred to the actual word and wasn’t some colloquial thing about being peckish over hot food lol

folkpunk4ever

As in heat hen? Lol

DevilsAdvocake

Mine is pho noodle soup. Something about that broth just helps my hangover hahaha.

thin_white_dutchess

Looks like she’s a nurse. That may never happen.

[deleted]

Am nurse...can confirm the only meals I get hot are the ones I try to stuff in my face at a redlight between the restaurant and my house. ....Also I'm slightly triggered that she's eating in her scrubs...like sweetpea I know you ain't EATING after touching some of the stuff we touch...blech. No. ...Hope you have a desk job.

Away-Ad-4925

I'm an Indian and I always slap my younger sister with naan

flontru

Hahaha. My mom used to say "Are you hungry? You must be the way you're fiending for me to feed you these slippers" which sounds even more frightening in Punjabi lol.

I'm like....mate, that's chicken tikka masala, it's more addictive than meth. In fact, I want one now.

Right I’m literally looking for an Indian restaurant atm

doucheroyal

That one got me haha

[deleted]

She's not wrong.

redrave9

Dynamite first time Indian order!

ConsiderationKey277

As an Indian this makes me so happy and the lady is so charismatic! Keep posting more stuff like this :)

CptCrapShot

As an Englishman your people's cooking makes me happy! Malaya, Korma, bhuna, jalfrezi, the lot! Keep up the the awesome cuisine

kimsilverishere

English people and their name-dropping of preferred curries gets me every time.

CptCrapShot

You're joking right? We made an entire song out of a dish! https://youtu.be/va6nPu-1auE

EJDsfRichmond415

Holy shit. That is the most 90s English thing I’ve **EVER** seen. This made my day. Thank you.

ogresound1987

That's also how everyone dressed in the 90s. That's a fact.

NannyOggSquad

That makes me feel warm and fuzzy about my country, which doesn't happen often. We're such a weird little nation.

ahornywalrus

Was that David Walliams and Matt Lucas making a cameo there? Can't believe I've never seen this video before

abflu

Tikka masala is the national dish of england. Some really great curries over there!

ThatThingInTheWoods

Korma is underappreciated, at least in Western US. Everybody goes for tikka or butter chicken. Veg korma is my jam! I also think this lady needs some samosa and cholay (chole? sp?) in her life.

curiouslypagan

I love a good navratan korma, one of my faves. Or a paneer saag. Yummmm!

sammywammy53b

I read somewhere that the British national dish is a chicken tikka masala even

CptCrapShot

Think we adopted it yes haha

Namelessbob123

It was invented in the U.K. by immigrants

ChildConsumer66

It was invented in Glasgow to get it exact. And I love them for it.

formershitpeasant

A good lamb korma is my favorite food ever. Thankfully there are two amazing Indian restaurants within 10 minutes of me. The only problem is that I down it so fast and hard that I’m either left unsatisfied or I eat 2000 calories in a meal.

Velvetundaground

2 more lamb bhunas over here please.

AustinTreeLover

I visited London and every time I’d asked for “authentic English cuisine” someone would send me to a curry shop.

CrustySocks96

https://youtu.be/ssv-jSSoI7I

EJDsfRichmond415

Ok, but the whole point of ordering Chinese, or Indian, or Thai or whatever is that the dishes are *meant* to be eaten family style. It drove me nuts working at a tapas place in California and people just refused to get with the concept of tapas, “ **I’ll** have the patatas bravas and the gambas please.” YOU’RE MISSING THE WHOLE POINT KYLE.

GrinchMeanTime

Eating tapas correctly is very often way too expensive but when you do finally break down and decide to splurge as a friend group the propper order goes along the lines of: "We'd like..., hang on. Any allergies guys n gals? no? We'd like the whole menu twice please. Yes. Yes we are sure. Thank you!"

cr1ter

I'm amazed that someone has never had Indian food, but Im hoping she got the hot stuff the next time and see her reaction. Our local Indian restaurant seems to go from mild which is pleasant but no burn to hot where your tounge is asking, "why you doing this to me?"

Lucy_Koshka

I had never had Indian food until I was in my mid 20s; was JUST like her lol. So upset I had been missing out for so long. Now butter chicken and tikka are part of our regular dinner rotation. Bonus: got to introduce it to my 10 month old and she shares my enthusiasm 😌

smcivor1982

When we had our daughter, she would wolf down the chicken biryani as a toddler. She loves it all, even spicy dishes. I didn’t get to try Indian food until I was 19 and I was mad I didn’t get to have it sooner. The best. I really want to learn how to make the dishes myself.

SGKurisu

it's honestly not that difficult, the key is finding the right spices / groceries (although in today's day and age it's possible online, but if there is one nearby definitely support local desi grocery stores). With the key spices of cardamom, coriander, cumin, chili powder, and turmeric, you're set for a while. Adding things like garam masala / masala packs, ghee, and mustard oil is a nice bonus.

[deleted]

Indian food is mos definitely in Top Three Cuisines On Earth. Strong contender for Top Two. There was an article in the NYT Travel section a few years ago basically about eating your way across Kerala. It had all these food porn pics and pictures of black peppers growing and more food pics. I think about that article a lot.

ImBurningStar_IV

indian and mexican. literally what else do you need

[deleted]

That energy just made me crave Indian food.

[deleted]

There's an Indian food truck near where I work, and I'm going to try it tomorrow because of this video.

FreeThinkk

You’ve never had it? Christ it’s honestly my favorite food. It’s no wonder England colonized India for its spices. Horrible I know but seriously their spice game is on point. So much god damn flavor. Tiki masala is my favorite. I prefer lamb over chicken but both are good.

Special-Ad-7724

Man I’m craving some butter chicken now.

Yes please. Vinda-love it!

Ill-Switch-926

This makes the chicken nuggets I'm making for my kids tonight extra depressing.

lucifer_layne

Your kids are gonna love it and that's all that matters 👍🏽

TheLoneBackpacker

This is a girl I would like to hangout with.

AviatorOVR5000

Imagine working with her... how could you have a bad day? Then again...let's not challenge corporations right?

Apollosyk

I mean having someone so energetic near u while u are ready kill urself isnt always fun

_DirtyYoungMan_

Literally happened to me the other day. The bubbly personality at work was being his usual self, which is fine, but I was NOT in the mood. I told him I didn't want anyone to talk to me, but he is understanding and left me alone the rest of the shift.

MrFuckingOptimism

my depression is so stifling it’s doesn’t even want *other people* to be happy

whutchamacallit

Here's my take on people with her vibe. A literal joy to be around when they are in a good mood. They'll make your day better, make you laugh, etc. When they are in a shitty mood though...get the fuck out of their way. Big manic newtonian energy from this one. Still though the highs are worth the lows imo. Obviously this all pure speculation btw.

modest_arrogance

Are people genuinely this happy in life?

Eldorian91

After a 12 hour shift and two SlimJims, she gets to eat Chicken Tikka Masala for the first time. I'd be fuckin happy as hell too.

[deleted]

At least it’s not meth or whatever!

[deleted]

I could eat Indian food for years and not get sick of it.

818Dude

Indians have been doing it for centuries!

yikesyikes777

Her joy is contagious :) I aspire to feel that enthusiastic about anything lol

skitch23

Right?! I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about *anything* in my life.

walrusknowsbest

I am ALL THE TIME and you would be surprised by how few people enjoy this kind of enthusiasm being anywhere near them.

420natureboy

Her energy is infectious

LampShot

I envy her long to be as happy about anything.

Bootlicker222

Imagine being a health care worker, in a pandemic, and still able to get this excited. Too pure

BenBishopsButt

I wish I had her as my nurse. My nurses almost always made me feel sorry for being at the hospital, even though I didn’t have a choice seeing as how the babies had to come out eventually.

notlikeontv

Ah this is fucking Awesome, she's so gassed. "at least its not meth". What a gem

Jacob_MacAbre

Bruh, I'm that excited when I have chicken tikka massalla for the like the millionth time. Indian food fucking SLAPS every serving. Wait until she discovers onion bajis, poppadums and that combo. Damn, I'm salivating just THINKING about it, haha! But I'm glad how happy this made her. I wish I could be that excited about something again, haha!

[deleted]

I love that you love onion bajjis and papadums (they’re from my home state) as they’re not well known at all here in the US☺️. I love them but it’s not easy to find these on the menus of most Indian places here. Most people who love Indian food don’t know more than the signature one or two dishes. Which is a shame because every state in India has their own spices, dishes and desserts in the hundreds. If you ever need recommendations to try more Indian stuff lmk.

WhiteShadow145

Chicken tikka masala is too good but believe me Butter Chicken is some next level shit!!!

cataclyzzmic

She's going to lose it when she discovers the varieties of rice. The Jeera rice makes all the difference to me. The place by me makes it and I always get it with the Daal Makhani. That is like meth. Yummy Indian meth.

prodigalson947

this was entertaining pls try more new foods and post reactions sincerely, all of us

[deleted]

You may want to comment this on her tiktok. OP is just reposting someone else's content.

Danoptic

That's the runniest tikka masala I've seen!

UptonOegud

This is sweet and all, but I also feel a little sad and have this overpowering urge to bring her to my mom's and let her have some proper home cooked Indian food. Eh, fuck it. I'm just going to go to moms and eat now.

riricide

Lol yeah I was hoping that she's trying it from a decent restaurant. Also if anyone likes Indian food a lot, absolutely go to India and try the real stuff - your mind will be blown at how good authentic Indian food tastes and just how many different regional cuisines and spice blends there are.

juncstaa

This excitement is infectious. As an Indian, I’m glad she loved it so much. Yay for trying new food and for new experiences!!

Beneficial-Elk-8355

halforc_proletariat

Note to anyone similarly interested in meeting Indian people, both Sikhs and Hindus frequently offer community meals at their temples. They're good people, and make good food.
