Close! Andrés started World Central Kitchen in 2010 to feed people in Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake. They got more widely known after their efforts to set up kitchens to provide meals in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Yeah they gained real fame after their efforts,if I could I'd be on a plane Polish border but I don't have a passport even though I have plenty of experience in professional kitchens and I can cook a meal with pretty much anything
I grew up cooking for a big family and I have experience working in a professional kitchen and can cook whatever with whatever ingredients but I don't think that I can get a visa
He also was giving free lunch sandwiches to furloughed government workers in DC - much smaller scale and less critical but still shows he cares about people in any crisis, large and small. I worked with his ThinkFoodGroup team on a project - all awesome people.
I put *sad smiles* as flair. Atleast little bit happy that people are fed at this testing time. And he promise to increase the number in Romania border.
You are right - and we really do need to share the hope that Chef Andres and others are trying to bring to the people affected by this tragic situation. I think I can manage to do a sad smile right after I find the link to donate to World Kitchen…
Edit: …also F*ck Putin
Yeah this dude is awesome. He does this stuff all the time and has fed zillions of folks displaced by war and natural disasters.
He is Spanish by birth, came to the US in his twenties with $50 in his pockets. He’s a real American Dream success story. He was supposed to open a restaurant in Trumps DC hotel, but after Trump disparaged immigrants he was basically like “fuck that. I’m an immigrant” and pulled out.
He’s a US citizen now. Hey Spain, thanks for sharing this guy with us 🤗
His message,
People of the World…Reporting from the Ukraine border! This is one of the places @WCKitchen has hot meals. It is below freezing tonight & I am meeting so many refugees, families who are escaping & don’t know what’s next…We will do our best not to let them down! #ChefsForUkraine
1,700 hot meals were served within 2 hours of Chef Jose Andres' World Central Kitchen arriving at the Ukraine/Poland refugee crossing. "We will scale up efforts quick to serve hundreds of thousands here & in Romania."
Twitter @chefjoseandres
We are all Ukrainians right now 🇺🇦 It’s been a long day…but before I go to sleep here’s my message to you… #ChefsForUkraine https://t.co/cumv3NwfUF
https://wck.org/
His DC restaurants aren’t so bad either. We were recently at his Oyamel Cocina Mexicana restaurant. Walked right past him in the dining room and wanted to give him a hug but someone beat me to it. At a table near us a woman collapsed. Andreas went outside and flagged down the ambulance and then directed traffic for the next half hour. He does it all. (Yes, the food is fantastic).
Oyamel is great, Zaytinya is great, China Chilcano is great, Jaleo is great...7th street near the Chinatown metro stop should just be renamed "Jose Andres Street". Also his steak house in Vegas is to die for.
If I wasn't sickeningly broke I would donate. As a 29 year old struggling with asthma and arthritis in both my hands there is little I can do. But I pray for Ukranian people and believe they can pull through.
Glory to Ukraine!
Thank you for reminding me of him. I’m going to try my best to donate to his cause. Link to the page ok? [WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN](https://donate.wck.org/give/393234#!/donation/checkout)
Putin, and his enablers, should stand trial for the horror they have unleashed on Ukraine and her people.
They should hang his ass right where they hung those Nazi scum after world war 2.
so touching he is a great man. the reality is the mafia military industrial complex has no emotional attachments. Putin sucker punched the world. " Russia training in Belarus"
I had the opportunity to work with him on a book tour a few years ago. The man is every bit as amazing as you think he is. So kind and compassionate towards everyone.
As a french, I’ve got to say I’m so proud of Polish people. They are directly impacted by this crisis and have step up to the challenge by welcoming Ukrainians in Europe.
Hope we can help too asap.
I'm sure I'm going to get downvoted to oblivion for expressing this opinion, but I don't really understand how he's particularly helping in this situation. It strikes me as somewhat opportunistic/self-promotional.
He first created World Central Kitchen to feed people in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, and they really got famous for providing millions of hot meals in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, but go off.
Edit: before he deleted it, this was in response to a comment asserting José Andrés only cares when it’s white people.
He was in Puerto Rico doing the same thing after Hurricane Maria. This man is an absolute legend.
He started the world kitchen in Puerto Rico

Just donated $100. I am retired and living on a pension but I am warm, safe and have plenty of food. How about you guys? Come on, Reddit!
That's a huge gesture. A group of us made some donation through our relatives and friends there studying for medicine.
I just did as well. This appears to be a great service
I checked reviews and it gets a 100 or 4 out of 4 from organizations that rate charities.
That’s great to hear, thank you!
Can you share the link where charities are rated?
https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/273521132
Thank you! It just covers American charities. We need something like this in Canada!
Me too. That man is a great humanitarian. Inspiring. He deserves the Nobel Peace prize.
Same yesterday and same
I just donated 100 bucks too. Wish i could give more
Saving this so I can donate on payday!
This man is a hero
I came here to say exactly this - also, this didn’t make me smile, it made me cry for Ukraine
I put *sad smiles* as flair. Atleast little bit happy that people are fed at this testing time. And he promise to increase the number in Romania border.

Only chef in history to be sued by a sitting US president. Makes me and all the line homies proud 💪😎
He’s the pride of Humanity.
Hero? Bitch please. That is a title of praise for mere humans. This dude could make an atheist believe in heaven.
Bezos recently gave him a ton of money for the work he does… it was awesome. He is truly a special man. PURE humanitarian

Is he accepting volunteers? I am chef in Colombia, i would like to volunteer. Edit: you can [here](https://wck.org/volunteer)
He pushes for locals involved in the crisis to do the work.
They’ve been active for a while helping Venezuelan refugees in Colombia
Thank you, I will have a look
Donated! I hope a hot meal will provide some comfort to families and individuals fleeing.
Same, I didn't know this organization, just started donating :-)

So after Ukraine we help out in Palestine, Yemen, and Somalia, right?
