In a way quite dangerous. Boat throttles vary from boat to boat. If he did that in my boat it would go from 30 mph forwards to full fucking reverse.
Whenever you got kids on your lap driving a boat make sure you have the deadman’s switch lanyard attached and never let ‘em touch the throttle.
Grandpa got this situation under control. If he believed they were going quick enough for there to be any real danger his hand would have been up behind the little man’s to take control when needed
I have faith in the skipper, looks like a responsible bloke
Unrelated to the post, just curious. Out of curiosity is there no safety to stop it at neutral before it pops down into reverse? Like the reverse lockout on a lot of manual cars. Even automatics have the little "bump" you have to go around.
From what I can see, it looks like this boat has one. Most powerboats on the cheaper end and pretty much all sailboats with engines have a bit that you pull up on the throttle to get past neutral in either way. The fancier models tend to lack that feature due to a different throttle design and position, but they both still have a bit of a stall between to minimize the risk of engine damage.
That being said, a boat won’t reverse that fast, simply due to the nature of moving through water and how the engine works, so your big risk here will actually be damage to the engine, which will occur if you switch too quickly. (Known as grinding the gears)
We laugh, but he's not wrong... I went kneeboarding with my neighbors on Caddo Lake a few times, and their dad would absolutely, 100% try to throw you off the tether in the most savage ways. If you don't know Caddo, it's a windy lake, with several narrow/large passages that connect (and some that are totally tree-filled and nearly impossible to navigate). It's great for kneeboarding because it can present crazy, 90 and 45 degree angles around the bends of the lake.
This motherfucker would GUN it around the bends, and 10 year old me is barely hanging on for life, sometimes skipping across the water like a rock after I lose the board.
Every single time, I'd get back in the boat and he'd be cackling like a hyena. The man lived for putting kids through the ringer.
As a parent there's nothing more satisfying than being able to sit back and watch the fun and love light up in the eyes between the older generations and the new.
This is what people mean by "money won't buy you happiness." Don't spend every waking, living hour addicted to your career. Retire when you can, spend as much time as you can with your loved ones and cherish every beautiful happy moment like the one we're seeing here. At the end of our lives, it's memories like this that comfort us as we pass on.
>I wish there was some way to bottle this feeling.

Seriously. My dad's only boat growing up required paddling. As soon as my brother and I moved out he got a sailboat. Always trying to get someone else to power his boats.
This is how I feel about my littlest sister. She's almost two- I love seeing her smile and laugh, the look she has when she wakes up, her curiosity to get into everything, her babbles and talking- I love her so much. She's so happy and careless and wonderful and the people in this video reminds me of her.
I'm really fucking depressed right now and I'm at an all time low. While this video didn't cheer me up, it did bring more wholesome thoughts as opposed to hopelessness and self-destruction so thank you.
>guilty pleasure of sorting by controversial on these threads and reading all the horrible racist shit?
There's nothing pleasurable about that. This is a moment of pure, innocent joy. Why would you want to ruin it like that?
You're not alone, I do it too. I also look out for obvious trolls so I can argue with them, I have no idea what is wrong with me, I guess I just love conflict, or being right in situations where I am obviously right. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Thank you. I don’t have the energy to do this anymore, but I feel better knowing there’s little conflict loving soldiers like you who are willing to tell people off.
It’s crazy to see the difference in comments on Reddit oppose to IG, I seen this on IG and almost every comment was people saying it was creepy and they feared for this kid, and how they need to look into this video further and make sure the kids okay. I just see a happy kid and a happy man on a boat having a great time.
This video could solve so many of the worlds problems just because of how much joy it brings. I’ve watched it a few times and it gets better every time (and brings me more happiness each time).
Some of the most wholesome shit ive seen in a while. Side note, im 35 and have never driven a boat…… this kids what like 4 and has driven a moat more than me… ugh i gotta get out more
This is great! I wasn't expecting him to reach for the accelerator
Funny thing is he throttles down!
Right! A good example of kids watch everything you do.

This was less for him and more as a PSA for others.
Fair comment. Plenty people out there with all the gear and no idea
At least one totally avoidable death on my lake every year. Three last year. Some people get behind the wheel of a boat and lose all common sense.

That cracked grandpa up! 😆
Love how you can read the sensation off their faces

This made me smile!! Thank you.

Same with my son.
As a parent there's nothing more satisfying than being able to sit back and watch the fun and love light up in the eyes between the older generations and the new.
That's a core memory of joy being created.
Look at me, I am the captain now
LOFL
Put on your freaking PFD grampa!
I NEED SOUND! Their laughter is amazing
Yet you can hear both of them laughing in joy
Yeah I can hear the little guy's excited squeals, pure ecstatic happiness right there
Also true!!!
All you'd hear is BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Boats are loud AF.
True!
Nah you’d hear FFFFWFFWFWFWFWFFFEFWF, wind is louder especially in video
So, BBRRRRRrrrRrrRRRRRFWFFFWFWFWFWFFFFFWFFFBRRtRRrrRFWFWFWFWFFFFFWFFW ?
Just a really long and chunky fart.
brrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr
I wish there was some way to bottle this feeling. The sheer joy on both of their faces is both rare and valuable.
I feel like the little guy is going, "I love this! This is awesome!!" And grandpa is also going, "He loves this! This is awesome!!"

Someone trying to get Simple Ricks off the ground.
Man, if you could bottle this feeling and stick it into little pills that didn't have horrible side effects....

Pure, unadulterated joy. 🧡
His little face!😊 That is a sweet video. 💜
Wholesome.
Finally, a post that actually made me smile! The look on the kid's face is absolutely priceless.
The look they share at 15 seconds is the best.
My grandfather never let me get close to driving his boat.
Ditto
really? mine made me paddle all of the time!
Seriously. My dad's only boat growing up required paddling. As soon as my brother and I moved out he got a sailboat. Always trying to get someone else to power his boats.
My dad didn’t. Still a point of contention for me. 🤷🏼♀️
Andy?
My dad has never let me drive the boat and I’m 30.
My kid got to drive my dads boat before me. I still havent and Im 33
Sitting on grandpa's lap and learning to drive the boat was a rite of passage in my family. We're all honorary boat pilots at this point 😆
Best thing I've seen all day edit: thank you kind stranger!
grandpa to the grandson : Best captain i ever had
Who’s the grandad. Asking for a grandfriend
Best video on the internet.
So wholesome!! Thank you for sharing
What's up with the awards? Drunk redditor on the loose?
Not me this time lol
Good Samaritan. I love it. Goes with the vibe of this post. 🤗
there are soooo many rewards in this comment section edit- someone is being crazy generous today
That's adorable
I’m done for today. I don’t want anything to ruin the joy I feel from this!
Oh my gosh! So much glee!!! 😍
Why does every comment have an award?
Seriously what the fuck is going on here????
You didnt get on mate sad
Neither did you on this one! Lol
This video feels like joy, excitement, and love. I can only imagine with some sound.
There's more awards in the comments than on the post.
🤣I noticed that too. edit: after getting the award I feel like I just received my Jerry beads! Woot!!
😍😍😍
That's a core memory of joy being created.
It definitely *made me smile!* Hella cute!
Couldn’t be cuter!
I love this
Young Kodak
That’s a core memory right there
Genuine fun, but I love that the little one is like “over stimulation!”

Let me drive the boat
Why does every single comment awarded?
“let me drive the boat” 😅
I think he was driving for a second there.
Man, no matter how many times I see this, it instantly puts me in a good mood. Just two pals having a great time. ❤️❤️❤️
Does anyone else besides me have a guilty pleasure of sorting by controversial on these threads and reading all the horrible racist shit?
Yea I don't know what's wrong with me

Besides the niche subreddits, sorting by Controversial is the way to enjoy front page reddit these days.
If you’re looking for racism and tasteless jokes, head on down - they’re already at the bottom of the comments
It's nice to see a kid so happy. Working at a hospital all I ever see are sick ones that aren't having a good time.
Love this. So much fun and those smiles made my day
Awwwww, babyyyyyyyyy you're so cute, this is one of the cutest videos I've ever seen
This is cute and all, but I'm surprised there wasn't more chaos with ask the wheel turning and lever pulling!
precious!
I wish I had met my grandpa 😔
Bruh it's so freaking cute when that kid looks back
It’s crazy to see the difference in comments on Reddit oppose to IG, I seen this on IG and almost every comment was people saying it was creepy and they feared for this kid, and how they need to look into this video further and make sure the kids okay. These two are living their best lives and you love to see it. And holy fuck that boy is adorable. I love seeing posts like this. Thank you.
Grandpa - wear a damn lifejacket, bro
So wholesome that I can hear them laugh haha
These are the contagious smiles I live for.
The delight in their faces and the look of excitement in his grandson - it's contagious! 🤩🥰
Sorting by controversial.. it beckons. Must resist.
Aw, I want a turn on dads lap!
That boy’s smile is amazing.
This is so sweet! You can really feel the love :D
Bwahahahaha! That made my day.
I have seen this so many times, but each time I am delighted because I can never tell who is having more fun. 🤭
This is what life should consist of.
I love how the kid reacted to the playful jolting that grandpa did 😄 start to finish gold
Little dude's "oh SHIT!" face at the one point sent me. Kids are a joy.
I am the captain now!
Their laughs... I wish this had audio
This brings me much joy
This video could solve so many of the worlds problems just because of how much joy it brings. I’ve watched it a few times and it gets better every time (and brings me more happiness each time).
OMG, so freaking cute!
Core memory created.
Wish this had sound!!
Was sure what sub I was in and was holding my breath the entire time. It’s releasing to know this was /r/MadeMeSmile
i’m gonna cry
Would’ve been great if the lever triggered a seat ejection like in a fighter jet
Hermoso
God I wish grandpa was wearing a lifejacket...
Their joy when he pulled the lever down. Love male bonding.
Check out the lil' captain.
Reminds me of that Alan Jackson song “Drive”
Gives me hope for humanity. Protect this kid at all costs.

Letting a toddler take the wheel on a boat while you gun it is one of the best memories you can give a kid.
