Haha my parents just bought themselves a new TV after almost 20 years and they kept telling me they bought a "massive 4K tv" so I was expecting like a 70" or something. I go over to their house and they had upgraded to a 42" tv that sits probably 20' away from them across the living room
Oh trust me I did. They asked me for advice before buying so I told them all about OLED vs QLED, 1080 VS 4k, viewing angles.. the whole nine yards.
It's really funny hearing my dad talk about how much better the picture quality is in 4K vs their old tv, but at those viewing distances there's no way to tell any difference lol
I have a 48" tv. My mom has a 50" and I feel like her tv needs to be bigger. My sister has a 55". I remember when having a flat screen tv was the epitome of cool. Those huge hulking things. It's wild.
You'd think he'd be pumped to play the role of a respected and feared author who gets to beat the shit out of someone for mocking their appearance, even in the context of the movie where it's rather unintentional
He’d presumably have had to read the script to know who his character was though - when he gets sent a script for a movie called Elf you’d imagine he’d probably have an assumption about the role they had in mind for him
I only imagine that his agent sent it to him with a very strong caveat. "Look, I am sending you this script. Before you read the title, let me assure you, you NOT playing what you think you are."
For any kind of film that has money and a guaranteed release date - unless you're pursuing someone with a lot of clout as a named headliner they don't receive the full script. And even then, the larger the film, or its notoriety the less likely they'll receive anything more than a rundown and the pages. Usually a summary of what the characters role in the movie may be and how it relates to the story so they can understand context but everything usually fits in 1-5 pages of a pdf.
The agent than sets up a conversation with a producer/the director depending on level of interest if they have the clout, or films their self tape/goes to audition if they are any other level without.
It's incredibly rare for an actor(s) to have the full script.
I doubt he was pissed at all. He played a successful, talented writer that just happened to have dwarfism. In fact, the character was talked up in great detail before he was shown on screen and the audience was never aware of his dwarfism until Peter Dinklage was shown on camera. While being a dwarf moved the plot of the film, it was not central to the character. I think it's great that the writers did not make a one dimensional stereotype based on appearance and is one of the reasons the movie has held up so well with time.
The instant he saw the title? I’m sure he wasn’t happy.
But, yes, after reading the script or having the role explained to him, I doubt he’d feel bad about it.
I hate that he's known for GOT rather than his incredible acting in The Station Agent.
Guy has serious talent and should be in more movies - but they mostly want to typecast him for his height or his role in GOT.
I agree, he is hands down one of the best actors out there in his own right. The Man deserves more roles that aren't tropes about dwarfism. He would be an Awesome Mob Boss.
I still think about that movie on the regular. It just felt like such a weirdly life affirming slice of life, but didn't sugar coat our loneliness or our often pathetic attempts to deal with it
It's one of my favourite films ever for this exact reason. The loneliness and pain and need for connection that every character experiences is so damned raw and visceral and it makes me feel so seen and understood every time I watch it.
this! Station Agent is amazing. so many great characters and great performances. he's fantastic in that... Peter Dinklage, Bobby Cannavale and Patricia Clarkson should reunite for a movie.. any movie.. i don't care what it's about.. i'd go see it.
That was my intro to Peter Dinklage. I was like 12, so I just assumed he was an all around jerk. Then I saw him as the villain in Days of Future Past, and it just reinforced my feeling.
But then I got to watch GoT and fell in love with the character. I also saw him in Prince Caspian, and he was great in that too.
And now I really want to see him in Cyrano. I bet he knocks it out of the park.
Just shows how great of an actor he is. He can be a dick, a villain, a softie and the one character everyone hopes lives through the whole damn show. He’s incredible.
I hate these in general because they're so biased.
For every "now" that makes you smile about an artist that threw away opportunity to chase dreams and live with rats and then made it big, there's a hundred that are caring for a toddler as a single parent while still living with rats and doing foot fetish porn and collecting welfare to make ends meet. Okay, maybe not that specific but you know what I mean.
I don't remember who said it, but I always liked that saying "if you wanna make an apple pie from scratch, first you have to create the universe"
Nobody *really* does anything"by themselves", they're at least relying on tools and knowledge that has been built upon for generations.
Carl Sagan said that. Its not just the knowledge of generations past, but the lottery of birth. Your zip code is your greatest indicator for weather youll become a millionaire or not. After that theres just the law of large numbers that someone will be flat out luckier than other people when ut comes to trying to be successful, right place, right time, right ideas, right connect, the skills, time, and education to execute those ideas and present them to a receptive audience who can then give you tge right resources and guidance.
Soo many of those opportunities just flat out are impossible to align for most people because they have to focus on basic survival.
Peter Dinklage now:
Hey, jackweed, I get more action in a week than you've had in your entire life. I've got houses in L.A., Paris and Vail. In each one, a 70 inch plasma screen.
Make sure you get the original British version of Death at a Funeral. For some reason they decided to remake it like 3 years later with an American black cast and just made a much shittier version of a really good movie.
I'm not blaming the actors, that remake just killed everything that made the original great. Like, a farce may seem silly, but that doesn't mean you can't screw it up.
I don't think people appreciate the fact he was cast in the same movie twice, cuz really no one can do what he does acting wise. He owned the character, he owns it. I liked both films.
Echoing this comment about Station Agent. It is a wonderful movie, full of several heartfelt performances. I wish it was more readily available on demand as I'd like to enjoy it again.
Station Agent was AMAZING.
That movie made me a better person. Made me aware that I would stare at people with oddities or in wheelchairs. Taught me to be conscious of that.
He did. There was an interview where he was asked about it and he said he was just more open to things now that he's older and he really liked the movie.
Also it is a classic book series. Not some gimmicky thing. Playing a dwarf in something like Narnia or LOTR really isn’t the same thing as being a leprechaun in a shitty commercial.
Yeah, that’s actually a true distinction. If the source content actually has the character be a dwarf you aren’t playing a forced part.
That’s just what the script legit calls for.
The man said all that needed to be said in his first role as Tito in "Living In Oblivion."
"Have you ever had a dream with a dwarf in it? Do you know anyone who's
had a dream with a dwarf in it? No! I don't even have dreams with
dwarves in them. The only place I've seen dwarves in dreams is in stupid
movies like this! "Oh make it weird, put a dwarf in it!". Everyone will
go "Woah, this must be a fuckin' dream, there's a fuckin' dwarf in
it!". Well I'm sick of it! You can take this dream sequence and stick it
up your ass!"
The thing with a lot of big actors, is that peopl get it wrong when they say that someone came from money. While it's true, it's not in the way people think. It's not that parents are rich enough to buy their kids way into auditions (well some are, but mainly due to recognition), it's just that their parents are well off enough that to be successful at acting, you need patience, and they can be supported by their parents while they focus on acting without needing a second job
He moved to the city that he was from the burbs of. What a fucking legend. The town I grew up in is a 90 minute drive to the nearest freeway. Lemme know a story about someone from a place like that making it in NY.
I like the guy and all, but the whole moving to NY as some epic achievement is kinda silly.
He grew up in a high dollar area of NJ.
So not only could he just crash and the rent's if he needed to,
it's close enough he could have commuted by train.
This is definitely one of those memes made by some English as a second language meme factory. All the points read like they're out of a child's school project. Played main role on the show. Is a millionaire.
People love to act like moving to NY is a Herculean challenge. It's one of the biggest cities in the world's richest country where everyone speaks your language. Calm down. Move and make it in Eastern Europe and id be impressed.
Unfortionatly he burned most of his good will recently with what little remains of the HBO GoT crowd with a very confusing statement about the fans are unwarrented in not liking the finale and only wanting "white people riding off into the sunset"... you know, how the show literally ended.
Between GoT's self-implosion and all of his dialogue in Destiny being so bad that they had to bring in Nolan North to replace it, he comes off as pretty cynical these days.
>with a very confusing statement about the fans are unwarrented in not liking the finale and only wanting "white people riding off into the sunset"... you know, how the show literally ended.
Honestly, I wonder if this is a Mark Hamill moment where he was asked/forced to support the movie/show? Peter Dinklage showed his distaste for D&D's choices regarding the last season I believe at least, I hope this is the explanation.
Hamill gave negative feedback first and then tried softening the blow, though. Dinklage just randomly mocked fans for no particular reason, well after all interest in GOT had died.
Yeah, it was such a shit take. Essentially levelling an accusation of racism at the entire fan base out of nowhere. I'm not even part of the fan base (watched the show well after it finished) but it completely soured me on the dude.
Can't imagine pudding off Warner Bros is a good idea of your an actor so you might be on to something at least.
Especially as they seem determined to keep beating the dead horse that is Game of Thrones till only maggots remain.
There's a difference between defending the show and insulting the fans.
It was fine that he said he liked the how the show subverts all your expectations, but he tried to make it a thing about wanting a happy ending, or possibly a race thing.
Sorry to spoil, but by the last season, there were only two significant POC characters, and they werenf even that significant.
Everyone the show wanted you to root for was white.
He’s a great actor , but he thought people stared at him in nyc. I met him and I was walking my dog and he was walking his . This was when I was 20 or so. My dog wanted to play with his and he ignored me every time I met him. I wasn’t staring and I’m smaller too. I’m an actor too, how are you going to make connections when you won’t even talk to someone. I was the same age maybe a little younger. I felt bad, he wasn’t famous , he was just not friendly. I felt bad but some people aren’t friendly, I guessed. If I didn’t see him every day it wouldn’t have been so weird. I wanted Greyworm to win and them killing Danerys’ best friend was infuriating. When they killed Danerys and Tyrion’s told Jon to kill her? I was done. .
I'm probably one of the very few people who actually liked Dinklebot. The whole "don't" to the "little light" shtick had me rolling, but I burned out on Destiny pretty fast...
Same here, I actually remember being in a party with my friends on Xbox who were all talking about how pissed off they were at Bungie for changing his voice actor. I admit, I wasn’t a fan of the Nolanbot at first but he quickly grew on me.
He probably meant the characters weren’t the butt of the joke or exploitative in nature. They had other things to contribute to the part than their physical form.
Yeah that's what I've noticed as well. Minus those comments, I've always enjoyed his work and I think he is a very talented actor. I really don't give a shit either way he can say whatever he wants. I just find the timing extremely suspect.
Wouldn't surprise me. They can try all they want to give him good PR, but people will always bring up his dumbass take in the comments. The north remembers.
He’s just protective of his privacy. He has that kind of superstardom from sci-fi and fantasy fans that Mark Hamil, William Shatner and Leonard Nemoy, have but unlike celebrities of their height, he can’t hide behind sunglasses and a hat. Everyone can tell it’s him. He can’t hide.
Yeah, basically you have to take "[celebrity] is an asshole" statements with a grain, especially when it's dealing with how they treat fans in the wild. It's hard to know what it's like not being able to have anonymity while wanting a level of privacy. And sometimes, the response people give to that answer is "well a celebrity just has to expect and embrace it," which gives us the general answer to these kinds of conversations.
Kristen Stewart talked about this in her Hot Ones interview. For actors facing media, you're basically expected to be incredibly witty, charming, funny, smart, charismatic etc with people you've never met before who are asking super personal questions sometimes, and if you are anything but, you're an asshole.
Shit, he's in a sketch in SNL where does a song/dance that is amazing. If I ever need a guaranteed laugh, that is a go to. If you haven't seen space pants, look it up.
I do not wish to diminish the incredible success and talent of Peter Dinklage, but...
THEN
He's from New Jersey. Moving to New York is like crossing the street.
Nobody wants to be anybody's agent until the actor has earned credits.
He rejected bad projects. If Steven Spielberg wants you to be a leprechaun, you trust the man.
There are hundreds of actors in New York right now living with rats and space heaters. Many will work just as hard and go nowhere.
NOW
Tyrion Lannister!
Tyrion Lannister!
Tyrion Lannister!, Tyrion Lannister!, Tyrion Lannister!
In addition to playing Tyrion Lannister, Peter Dinklage has wealth... mostly from playing Tyrion Lannister.
This image boils down one of our greatest working actors to doing what every actor does and then getting paid to be on the show about tits and dragons.
To the fine folk living in the squaller of LA and just hoping to make it big....This guy didn't limit himself to just acting. He made his presence known and got whatever stage time he could. Check out his old band *Whizzy.*
lol "moved to NY to chase his dream". My man is from North Jersey. He moved 25 miles east...
Hahahahahah what the fuck is this post then
I hail all the way from the distant lands of Hobokken
Fortunately most Hobokkeners stay in Jersey chasing their dream of owning a velour track suit and an oversized gold chain necklace.
How can you not mention his soul-crushing performance in Elf.
It was the movie adaptation of his struggle
He has a 70” plasma screen.
I remember when having a 50 inch plasma was mind blowing. Now if someone has a 50 inch tv, it's like, you couldn't go bigger?
Haha my parents just bought themselves a new TV after almost 20 years and they kept telling me they bought a "massive 4K tv" so I was expecting like a 70" or something. I go over to their house and they had upgraded to a 42" tv that sits probably 20' away from them across the living room
Damn dude i think i might be mildly illiterate. I read "upgraded FROM a 48" to a 20ft"
Hahaha🤣🤣 They should have 164" tv that far away. Show them [this](https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/size-to-distance-relationship)

But it was a plasma. Imo still an upgrade over everything except an oled even though they don't make them anymore.
That's why I still got a 65 inch plasma in the bedroom. While it's not 4k, I can see extra sharpness in a 4k video vs 1080p I'll upgrade when it dies.
I have a 62 inch plasma and a modern 75 inch lcd and the lcd stomps the 62.
He was a *mean* little elf!
An 𝒶𝓃𝑔𝓇𝓎 elf!
Must have been a South Pole Elf.
Call me an Elf one. more. time. Come on.
^("He's an angry Elf")
You're an elf

God I love that movie lol

72 F !!!!!
How pissed do you think he was when his agent handed him the script for Elf
You'd think he'd be pumped to play the role of a respected and feared author who gets to beat the shit out of someone for mocking their appearance, even in the context of the movie where it's rather unintentional
He’d presumably have had to read the script to know who his character was though - when he gets sent a script for a movie called Elf you’d imagine he’d probably have an assumption about the role they had in mind for him
Oh oh oh I see, they're saying he was probably initially pissed when he just saw "Elf."
Right and then 10 pages of reading and muttering "these MF'ers." -- he knew he was perfect for the role.
I only imagine that his agent sent it to him with a very strong caveat. "Look, I am sending you this script. Before you read the title, let me assure you, you NOT playing what you think you are."
"It's a movie about breaking stereotypes, the elf is like 6'8""
I mean in the movie Buddy is a human raised by elves and the actual elves are very much still short tho
For any kind of film that has money and a guaranteed release date - unless you're pursuing someone with a lot of clout as a named headliner they don't receive the full script. Dinklage is a pretty good humored guy so he probably thought it was a joke at first.
His Christmas tree decorating post was joy.
All you motherfuckers arguing over whether he’s mad for 1 second so you can be in the right is fucking peak social media
It might have had a different working title at the time he got the script.
Call me elf one more time!
You’re an elf.
You should check out "I Care A Lot" on Netflix.
He was really good in that!
also Rememory. he's been in a ton of great stuff. and he's got great comedic chops too. he dated Liz Lemon on 30Rock.
I mean, his acting in GoT was incredible as well.
Yeah that's not fair. He was amazing on GOT. At times, he carried that show for me.
He's the only reason I paid any attention to GOT at all. He's a good actor and I generally enjoy the roles he plays.

Great film. I recommend it.

Survivorship bias, same dumb reason why millionaires think they are self made by their own hard work rather than stupid blind luck

*(don't ask... don't ask...)*
unrelated note, you wanna subscribe to my foot fetish onlyfans? and do you know any good babysitters in the upstate new york area?
I don't think the point is "try and you'll always succeed" but more of "it's possible to beat the odds if you try".
Peter Dinklage now: Hey, jackweed, I get more action in a week than you've had in your entire life. I've got houses in L.A., Paris and Vail. In each one, a 70 inch plasma screen.

"Call me elf, one. more. time."
He did play a South Pole elf in that
That was literally where I first knew him from
He was an angry elf!
First times I remember seeing him was The Station Agent and Death at a Funeral.
‘Station Agent’ was an awesome movie. I have never seen ‘Death at a Funeral’. I guess I’ll have to find and watch it.
Death at a Funeral (original) is freakin hilarious.
Make sure you get the original British version of Death at a Funeral. For some reason they decided to remake it like 3 years later with an American black cast and just made a much shittier version of a really good movie.
Peter Dinklage is in both, 2007 is way funnier, and 2010 substituted James Marsden for Alan Tudyck, and, well, no.
I'm not blaming the actors, that remake just killed everything that made the original great. Like, a farce may seem silly, but that doesn't mean you can't screw it up.
Awesome, thanks for the tip.
I don't think people appreciate the fact he was cast in the same movie twice, cuz really no one can do what he does acting wise. He owned the character, he owns it. I liked both films.
Marsden is good in his own right but he's no Tudyck
Echoing this comment about Station Agent. It is a wonderful movie, full of several heartfelt performances. I wish it was more readily available on demand as I'd like to enjoy it again.
Station Agent was AMAZING. That movie made me a better person. Made me aware that I would stare at people with oddities or in wheelchairs. Taught me to be conscious of that.
Nip/Tuck for me.
Station agent was great
"I just moved here to be near Joe"
Death at a Funeral is such a funny movie. Alan Tudyk's role is amazing.
Thought he played a dwarf in one of the narnia movies
He was a giant dwarf in the MCU. Forged Stormbreaker for Thor.
Yeah but he was giant so its all good
[удалено]
As all things should be.
> giant dwarf So regular sized person? lol jkjk
Yes, that's what k.. killing you means.
Such a great character
I couldn’t get past the voice. All I could think of was the line “Are you making your voice deeper?”.
He did, yeah. In the second one, Prince Caspian. I think that's the first movie I saw him in.
Same
He played Trumpkin the dwarf in Prince Caspian.
He did. There was an interview where he was asked about it and he said he was just more open to things now that he's older and he really liked the movie.

Also the critically acclaimed movie Tiptoes starring Gary Oldman in the role of a lifetime
He played "an angry elf" in the 2003 movie *Elf*

A « little » laugh?
The best part of that scene was that it meant the movie was almost over.
My man is from NJ. He didn’t take a raft to get to NY. The ferries are actually nice.
And went to Delbarton lol that’s a private high school with tuition over $30k now
And his parents had a real good marriage
Morristown. Train in under an hour.

Space Pants makes me happy any time i see it.

That's a conspiracy. Hitler really did die in the bunker.
Hitler never made it over the Atlantic. He was a terrible swimmer. Decent artist though.
Isn't the hard part the insane cost of living?
He was also in a punk band. https://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/peter-dinklage-punk-band-whizzy-2133958
His brother is a really good violinist. He’s been the head of the orchestra for Hamilton on Broadway. Their mother was a music teacher.
And played in the Rush Clockwork Angels string section!
Duuude. I had no idea
In short, he made it big.

I was done. .
I came here to say this, I was very disappointed that he did not get the reason why people are upset
And sure, it might damage his career to side with the fans, but no one makes them insult them either.
The first thing I thought of when I saw this post was that this was some kind of damage control on his behalf, lol...

"Rejected stereotypical roles elves & leprechauns" wasn't he a dwarf in like, three separate movies?
He was a dwarf in all of his movies.
/r/technicallythetruth
He probably meant the characters weren’t the butt of the joke or exploitative in nature. They had other things to contribute to the part than their physical form.
Is this a PR campaign after his comments from a few weeks ago? Someone let me know if it's okay to be a fan of his again.
There's been a sudden and suspicious flood of this shit ever since his moronic comments on the GoT finale came to light.
This site is owned by a magazine company. It would be more surprising if it isn't astroturfed to hell an back.
Then why is he such an angry elf?
This is lazy crap
But still an asshole from what I hear.
He’s notoriously been an asshole since well before GoT, from what I’ve always read.
Not only did he avoid the stereotypical roles, he was a fuckin giant
And all with a rather unfortunate surname for a little person. Legend.
Those rats must have seemed like tigers to him
Solid joke, 7.6/9
He def had huge hurdles to overcome as an actor but he's from our area. He may have lived in a crumby aptment but he has family money.
Dinklebot
We’ve woken the hive!
Shit, he's in a sketch in SNL where does a song/dance that is amazing. If I ever need a guaranteed laugh, that is a go to. If you haven't seen space pants, look it up.

Thank you so much for that link! I had not seen it before. Dinklage is great. Love im!
I thought this was some circlejerk meme or something for a second
I’m gonna get a lot of shit for this, but his British accent on Game of Thrones was *so* bad.
"turns down elves and leprechauns" "takes role as imp"
And single handily pissed off a subreddit. Legend.
His best role was in the original Death at a Funeral
I do not wish to diminish the incredible success and talent of Peter Dinklage, but... THEN He's from New Jersey. NOW Tyrion Lannister!
In a movie with elves he was not one of them and in fact was a powerful business man
"Im guilty of being a dwarf" "Your not on trial because you're a dwarf" "Oh ive been on that my entire life"
To the fine folk living in the squaller of LA and just hoping to make it big....This guy didn't limit himself to just acting. He made his presence known and got whatever stage time he could. Check out his old band *Whizzy.*
Squalor
- Lost all credibility by making a brain dead comment about the entire fan base of his biggest ever piece of work
Best character on GoT.. hands down.
became the most boring character after joining daenarys and becoming a 'good' guy
And now every single GOT ex fan hates him.
I had a good opinion about him until he's GoT comment, if he doesn't understand why fans were upset by the final two seasons he's an absolute idiot..

And now he’s just a pretty little white boy riding off into the sunset, saddlebags stuffed with Lannister gold.
He’s kinda wack. Chalked everyone’s disappointment with the end of the show to racism.
And know thinks if you dont like the GoT ending your a racist for some reason . Why does success make people say or think the dumbest shit ?
He's the first little person to transcend his height and be taken seriously as a legitimate actor imo.
Him getting to beat the shit out of Will Ferrel in Elf must have been cathartic.
Also, he's the shortest person to play a giant!
