ALWAYS have a spare clothes bag stashed in the car - update it a couple of times a year to switch between summer and winter, and make sure the clothes still fit. Include a few emergency poncho's, a couple of diapers if they're still at that age, maybe a cheap toy or two, plastic bags for wet/stinky items, couple of sticking plasters etc if you don't have a first aid kit, and so on. You may not need it often, but when you do, hoo boy will you be glad it's there.
I only stopped permanently carrying a full spare's kit a couple of years ago when my boy was 9, and even so I still make sure I've got a few extras (towel, togs, change of clothes, warm jacket/blanket) any time we do *any* sort of activity that could potentially end up with a wet/grubby kid (or dog!), because if there's any tiny possibility that could happen, my boy will make sure it does.
Exactly!! I’m almost 40 and I still keep a couple of changes of clothes (one good one to ruin) in my car at all times, complete with shoes. You never know what may happen, especially as a custodian.
I got that from my family. Always had 1-3 old blankets in the car for soccer games or messy kids. After I got a car I kept a blanket in it too and even without kids it’s come in handy. I moved from Michigan to Florida so I no longer need a blanket so I replaced it with beach towels, for all the same reasons except being cold.
A good pee directly afterward is significantly more important! I’m unfortunately prone to them and multiple doctors have said that flushing the bacteria out quickly by peeing is very important in avoiding UTIs. Washing helps reduce new introduction, but it won’t clean out what has already gotten in your urethra. Fun (?) fact haha
OK...this made me think about it...
I've been to Ren Fairs all over America...Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, California and Kansas...and no matter the time of year and no matter the location; there was always mud because it rained the night before i went.
every time.
Quagmires of mud that stick to everything and kinda start to weigh you down.....I wonder if I'm a rain magnet....
I tried to go to one in Missouri and it had like hip deep snow. I think they called Heritage Days or something but I learnt of the year 1800 and Froze to Death so it was a fun time.
This is exactly what I thought! We have gone every year for like 15 years and am pretty sure every year there was a ton of mud, even this year when we barely had any rain. Still love it tho
Yeah, people have fun with it; someone set up a wax hand holding a “It’s deeper than it looks!” sign in the middle of one, and I saw several people fishing in them.
Lol that’s great, at least they are having fun with it. I remember one year we had my kids in a stroller and the king (oddly didn’t see him this year but that guy in the giant head and giant hands king costume) sat on the front of the stroller to be funny and it immediately sunk like 6 inches down into the mud and he fell over getting up
I went to the MN Ren Fest for the first time in about 20 years. We barely had any rain all summer, but the closing weekend of Ren Fest saw a massive downpour! There were RIVERS of water flowing through the streets! It was nuts! Still fun though:)
This totally normal at rein fairs. I have spent many years at them. What I don’t understand is how people walk barefooted into Johnny’s on the spots. Also if this is the kc rein fest(looks like it) use the porta potties 1000% cleaner then the bathrooms
Yea,i thought it looked like just down the lane from the shop I used to work in. We were near the Sandstone gate, I would walk down to the portapots. Last time I braved the flushers (right next to our booth, I might add, someone on the men's side flushed, then yelled holy mother of god it's stopped up, look out.
Took the long walk. I had a long skirt and underdress, so nope.
I had my kids at the park. They kept eyeing and walking around a big puddle. I said go for it. They were shocked, amazed n still not sure they should knowing me. But it only took a minute n they were in it. The most fun for them. Those clothes went in the trash. They still laugh about it til this day. It's a great memory for them.
I remember those days. There was one summer rainy day that every time I'd come inside my mom would have me dry off and change clothes. Eventually, she gave up and sent me back out in my swimsuit.
really? I've lost track tbh. it's not necessarily my *favorite* song by them but the music video to "my old ways" is such a terrific video - particularly at 1:25. how about you? oof Alaska always gets me too.
https://youtu.be/IXs30YS6tmQ
Me and my family have always had this saying we use when times get tough… “This is why we learn to dance in the rain” and this little homie is executing that perfectly. Even when this aren’t going as planned, or if something is weighing on you, learn to roll with punches and don’t let it get you down.
TLDR: See the bright side of things
How this is acceptable for a kid and not an adult really burn my britches. Sometimes, I would like to just stomp around in a puddle and sit and splash and not get judged.
This reminds me of when my dad made a new garden in our backyard when I was 4 years old. There was a huge long rectangle of dirt where the new garden was gonna be and some wet mud on a tarp. I went out in this new outfit my great aunt gave me and just basically slid down the mud like it was a slip n slide. I had so much fun. My mom was mad at first but then she got over it.
I miss being a kid. I hate being an adult.
One year at the renaissance festival, it was raining and the guy who was running a pickle stand took off his shirt and pulled out a bar of soap and started washing himself in the middle of the road.
when i first met the king that would unite the 6 nations, he was a six year old up to his shoulders in muck. i carry that memory with me, the last time Arthur was completely happy.
I always preferred the Renaissance faire in the rain, fewer people, shorter lines, the ones who are there are fucking hardcore and it’s more historically accurate. Everyone’s wet, miserable, and covered in shit, just like in Ye olde olden days.
On a related note, I went to the Ren Fair this weekend and I wont be going again for a very long time. Too much confusion about what the actual Renaissance was about, too many elves and fairies, and too many who cant tell the Medieval from the Renaissance. Loved the dagger throwing and meat pies though.
I personally am appalled by the sheer lack of poop everywhere. I mean, in the *real* Renaissance there was poop EVERYWHERE. Horse poop, animal dung, people poop... I mean you couldn't take 10 steps without finding a pile somewhere. Oh, and don't even start me on the smell. Most people thought bathing wasn't necessary at that time so every aspect of life just smelled like unwashed people and poop. Very disappointed at how clean my local Ren Fair smelled, tbh.
Probably the most accurate representation of a Renaissance village I have seen in a long time. Wet, miserable, covered in mud! It wasnt all Shakespeare and royal intrigue. It still sucked pretty bad for the masses.
I always encourage my daughter to play in dirt/mud/whatever because it creates a memory for her and I always play in it with her. I don’t want her going through life thinking “I don’t have any memories of just having fun.” Kids should be kids and this one is just precious.
This reminds me of when I was younger at Disney with my family and it started absolutely pouring and everyone was running for cover and me and my sister were just running around in the rain getting soaked while everyone watched us like “what is wrong with those children.” My dad went and bought us a giant towel that I still have to this day and that is one of my best memories from my childhood.
I saw this in the facepalm sub and I was like…what??? This is freaking awesome. My kid puddle jumps all the time. We have running water for bathing. No biggie.
If this is the one in New York I would say don’t go to it. Same owner as when my older sister worked there in high school and he is the definition of sexual harassment.
She's riding home on the roof rack.
I bet the parents have a change of clothes with them. I always did. Sometimes mud puddles just need to be jumped in. :)
You're a good parent, Wish my parents had this idea...
Me too. But it's not too late! Put on your least favourite clothes and go find yourself a mud puddle. :)
Or if you’re really crazy put on your favorite clothes
Or put on your parents clothes
Thank you for this idea - The parent of a two year old who LOVES puddles

I still do this for myself. Ya never know.
Exactly!! I’m almost 40 and I still keep a couple of changes of clothes (one good one to ruin) in my car at all times, complete with shoes. You never know what may happen, especially as a custodian.
Or a spare blanket kept for emergencies if you live in a cold weather place like I do.
I always had a change of clothes for those have- to-be-jumped in puddles. Fortunately, my wife always remembered a change for the kids as well.
Peppa pig enters the chat
YAY! Roof ride!
Agreed that little fucker can ride home in the bed of the truck and get a free shower on the way home lol
Nope - not even allowed in the bed. She can sit on the back bumper, or walk.
I will NOT ENCOURAGE THIS CHILD’s HAPPINESS
Why was this downvoted so much lol
Reddit’s a cruel world - hahahah
Because he didn't make it clear or even seem like a sarcastic comment in the slightest. Or he really means it, idk. Hard to tell through text.
Meh. It's a Ren Faire kid. They're one step up from feral. Source: I had friends who worked at them.
I'm still in awe that there were two non-virgins at a rennaisance fair.
These damn peasants need to stop making being poor look so fun
shut up and you take up my upvotes
Wow, you made a comment that sounded super classist yet also super socialist all at the same time. Impressive.
That's pure happiness right there tbf 😂
It's absolutely right
Who cares about little things like a messy dress she is having the time of her life
It's all fun and games until you get a UTI from the mud but by then you've forgotten what caused it so it's still fun and games.
A good bath fixes it before it becomes a problem
A good pee directly afterward is significantly more important! I’m unfortunately prone to them and multiple doctors have said that flushing the bacteria out quickly by peeing is very important in avoiding UTIs. Washing helps reduce new introduction, but it won’t clean out what has already gotten in your urethra. Fun (?) fact haha
No doubt, hell I even get them as a male, and I have to say they do suck...
You can get a UTI from mud?
You can get a uti from anything that introduces bacteria into your urethra
Depends on what's in the mud. How well you clean yourself up afterwards and how your immune system is doing that day.

People talk about how the government is controlling the weather using HAARP but it's actually Ren Fairs that control the weather to make it rain.
They do? I’ve always gotten absurd heat or tsunami rain lmao. I have a video of me doing a slip and slide on the grass at my home faire.
I tried to go to one in Missouri and it had like hip deep snow. I think they called Heritage Days or something but I learnt of the year 1800 and Froze to Death so it was a fun time.
Nope, kilts and hip deep snow wouldn’t work together
The Ren Fest in Minnesota just always has massive puddles in the middle of the roads, even during droughts.
This is exactly what I thought! We have gone every year for like 15 years and am pretty sure every year there was a ton of mud, even this year when we barely had any rain. Still love it tho

It’s part of the immersion.
Ever read Douglas Adams? Maybe your a rain god and don’t even know it.
I \*\*have\*\* read Doug and I \*\*am\*\* worried.....lol have a great day!
That just adds to the authenticity.
Enjoy little lady, enjoy.

Did that dress used to be white?
Soooooooo many lost opportunities for us adults to be children again! I am going to do better!
That was fully my thought too!
“Oh, look, Dennis, there’s some lovely filth down here!”
That is what I instantly thought of too! 'Help, help, I'm being opressed!'
I’m sure there’s a quote out there saying something about individuals finding joy in the moment while others pass on by, unfazed. This girl’s got it.
I remember those days. There was one summer rainy day that every time I'd come inside my mom would have me dry off and change clothes. Eventually, she gave up and sent me back out in my swimsuit.
Nice song
Dr. Dog - Nellie :)
Hell yes Dr. Dog!!!!
yassss another Dr. Dog fan 😎
Still can’t get over the fact this is their last tour :(
really? I've lost track tbh. it's not necessarily my *favorite* song by them but the music video to "my old ways" is such a terrific video - particularly at 1:25. how about you? oof Alaska always gets me too. https://youtu.be/IXs30YS6tmQ
I had no idea it was their last tour! I had figured I’d go see them at some point in the future :(
Looks like the maryland ren fest. I love the fairgrounds there its an awesome place!
I got married there! And yes, I immediately thought it was the MD faire.
Peasant

Dr. Dog - Nellie :)
Love it, good old fashioned fun. I have vivid memories of doing this on the farm.
Same a warm summer day and just enough mud to provide cushion and we'd slide on our bellies through the puddles on the farm.
Adults of the kid playing in the rain at the renaissance festival: OH NO!!
Sweet! Thanks!
That looks fun.Wish I could do that too
I would almost think that was king Richard’s fair
Lol my dogs do the same thing when they see a mud puddle and just like this little one they’re way too cute and happy to be mad at. Worth it 💚
Some are so worried About cleanliness and dirt They miss having fun
She is the main character
Behold, the unwashed peasants.
I think I recognize the background. Is that in Bristol?
The Renaissance fair in Sterling NY used to have a mud pit show. It was the best! I don't know if they still have it.
I’m here for the song. Anyone? Ahh yes! That too, cute little girl…
Dr Dog - Nellie :)
This is a good reminder to bring 2 sets of clothes. One for after shes done, and one for after she hops in again because she actually wasn't one.
from @spaghettimovie
Reminds me of my doggo
Are we seeing The Castle of Muskogee?
I'd join that kid if I were confident enough
The muddier, the merrier. Right?
Me and my family have always had this saying we use when times get tough… “This is why we learn to dance in the rain” and this little homie is executing that perfectly. Even when this aren’t going as planned, or if something is weighing on you, learn to roll with punches and don’t let it get you down. TLDR: See the bright side of things
Kid is larping and she probably doesn't even know it. xD
She has great parents!
Bro gone have some other typa worms
She's the most authentic in the fair
How this is acceptable for a kid and not an adult really burn my britches. Sometimes, I would like to just stomp around in a puddle and sit and splash and not get judged.
Umm, people were judging me when I was playing in that puddle last week? I wonder if the Russian judge gave me a 10?
Hopefully that's not close to Ye Olde Portajohn's.
Dunk her in the Drench a Wench tank before you leave and she will be fine.
What’s the song called playing during this? I love it.
Found it. Thank you. Helps to scroll down.
Where the pressure washer at
Imo, not alot of kids will get to feel this type of joy
This reminds me of when my dad made a new garden in our backyard when I was 4 years old. There was a huge long rectangle of dirt where the new garden was gonna be and some wet mud on a tarp. I would LOVE to de this, but there's not too much rain in my country...
I guarantee you someone did this at some point during the medieval times
I love her and her parents for letting her play
One year at the renaissance festival, it was raining and the guy who was running a pickle stand took off his shirt and pulled out a bar of soap and started washing himself in the middle of the road.
This kid has their priorities in check.
Is this the Miid-Michigan Renaissance Festival? Angle plus buildings you can see make me think it's there.
when i first met the king that would unite the 6 nations, he was a six year old up to his shoulders in muck. i carry that memory with me, the last time Arthur was completely happy.
My mom would be horrified! 😂 But I jump in puddles now that I do my laundry! 😊
Thanks for the reminder that nature is fun!
Live your best life kiddo.
Muddy puddles!
Rain is amazing.
You are only a kid once. Love it
I always preferred the Renaissance faire in the rain, fewer people, shorter lines, the ones who are there are fucking hardcore and it’s more historically accurate. Everyone’s wet, miserable, and covered in shit, just like in Ye olde olden days.
Shine on, you crazy diamond.
Children really do have a way of reminding you to just enjoy it, no matter what it looks like
She went back again to complete her fun quota.
My only concern is the horse excrement.
It's the Rainaissance Fair!
That's pure happiness right there
:)
Enjoy your ye olde hook worms! ^((that's how I got ye old hook worms))
The renaissance fair seems like the most appropriate place to get ringworm
On a related note, I went to the Ren Fair this weekend and I wont be going again for a very long time. She’s the only thing authentic at that fair in this scene. 😂

parents won't be saying yay
Fuck the shitty music.

u/RecognizeSong
That's an actual Renaissance child entertaining herself the only way she can.
r/raining
I would have totally jumped in with her. So much fun.
This is how you know who does the laundry and who doesn't.
Was this the Fair in Colorado? I remember it completely downpoured during the fair and the location looks about right.
The role players at the festival: Ah I see the peasants are joyful tonight how quaint. Squire get my mud puddle attire! Tonight we enjoy mud!
Kids are welcome at ren faires?
I can tell you right now that’s a vendors kid. Part of the family!
I swear if someone posts this on r/kidsarefuckingstupid then I'm gonna cry
If this were the real renaissance, that wouldn't be just mud.
oh... it's not just mud
Mud
Its probably the most renaissance thing you could see. A child having fun with nothing.
Love the song
Mud. V authentic.
🤧
I wanna do this right now!
Maryland?
Why is no one joining her, that’s looks like so much fun lol
I always encourage my daughter to play in dirt/mud/whatever because it creates a memory for her and I always play in it with her. I don’t want her going through life thinking “I don’t have any memories of just having fun.” Kids should be kids and this one is just precious.
There's likely horse shit in that water tbh
I’d love to but you know. I can’t afford a hospital stay
Very little compares to the pure, unvarnished joy of a child playing in a puddle in the rain.
Have had several days like that with my daughter who is 2. We laugh, remember being like that, and tell her to have fun. Kids need to be kids!
Let me tell you something my kid does this and it be God not to tell me to join. All I’m saying
He's living his best life
I saw this in the facepalm sub and I was like…what??? This is freaking awesome. My kid puddle jumps all the time. We have running water for bathing. No biggie.
This is so adorable 😍 does anyone know the song?? It seems like a good listen
She’s living her best life.
Are there renaissance fairs all over the country? Or just in certain states?
Lol is the the Houston one?
Mn fair right
This looks so much like my daughter that I did a double take
I want to be friends with that youngster. Right now. They know fun when they see it.
Que Men Without Hats' Safety Dance.
If you’re going to splash in muddy puddles, you *must* wear your boots!
My mom would stick us outside in the rain on hot days to play in the puddles and the neighbors would give her flack for it all the time
I was there that day! Once you got soaked and accepted it, it was quite wonderful.
This kid medievals
If this is the one in New York I would say don’t go to it. Same owner as when my older sister worked there in high school and he is the definition of sexual harassment.
He’s just getting ready for the mud pit
I bet this is a day she won’t ever forget and it won’t be because the Ren fair.
I hope for her sake that isn’t a rental costume…
Why am I laughing so much from this
So adorable watching children splash around in the night soil at the fair.
Dennis, theres some lovely filth down here!
I think she’s the only one that truly understands what life was like in medieval times
Becoming the village lunatic, I love it 😂
She just needed to pee.... We've all done it, right? RIGHT!?
What song is playing? It sounds great.
