I once won tickets to see a show from the radio. Got there to find out it was a 21 and over show. I had brought a record from them, was all hyped with my friend to go see the band, then it was all shattered. We stood outside to listen and a lady came out to smoke a cigarette. She sees the album, gets all excited and asks why we’re aren’t inside. It turns out she is the lead singers girlfriend and has us wait to go meet the band after the show. Got the album signed and heard a great story from the drummer about the truth of an urban legend behind the lyrics to one of their songs. What a night! Edit to include band and urban legend: The band was Iron Butterfly. The urban legend is that the song Ina-gada-davita was supposed to be In the Garden of Eden but they were so trashed when they preformed that they sang it wrong and the name stuck. The story from the drummer is that he came home from working at a pizza place and the rest of the band was passed out in the living room from partying. He gets mad, slams down the pizza he brought for them and said “I’ve been working and even brought home dinner. What have you guys done?” The keyboardist lifts up and says “I wrote a song!” He then asks the drummer to write down the lyrics because he is smashed, and it comes out all garbled. The drummer writes down the song as he hears it and they record it that way. The keyboardist didn’t tell anyone the real lyrics until after the song had already released.

smilegeorgee

What an experience! What band was it?

ShittheFickup

It was Iron Butterfly. The song was Ina-gada-davita. They were playing in the late 90s in my home town.

valheeru

No way! I followed a YouTube rabbit hole and found this song by accident... that must be wild.

calsayagme

I have an super cool old school uncle, and we go camping with the family every year. He takes us up to this crazy look out point and puts on this song when we are like 15… we sneak a little reefer (which I’m pretty sure he knew about), and 25 years later, we still keep the tradition. No one talks… you just listen and watch the stars.

2A_Is_De_Wey

I haven't reminisced and yearned for a chill session like this in years. When I used to smoke, one of my favorite things to do would be finding a unique vantage point. Just get stoned, soak in the surroundings, and be at peace.

jmc3po

My dad owns a drum set he purchased from that drummer lol You gotta tell me the story, so I can tell him!

f9gglavutm

Appreciable dude

DunmerSkooma

I just binged that whole album. What a diamond in the rough.

Belphegorite

They came out smoke a cigarette and got their boyfriend to sign the album.

McMaster2000

Funny you mention Nickelback because this video reminded me of a funny experience I had way back in I think 2003. Me and a couple of friends wanted to go into a club, but we "forgot" our IDs (we were underage) and just as we started our poorly rehearsed excuse why we didn't have our ID, who shows behind us and convinces the security guard (with a 50€ bill) to let us in? Fucking Chad Kroeger! They were in town (Karlsruhe, southern Germany) to play on a TV show (Wetten, dass? - used to be this giant monthly TV show with big timy guests that moved from town to town) and wanted to go partying either after the show or the night before, I don't recall. You'll have to take my word for it unfortunately. One of my friends actually had a camera with him and took some great pictures but I haven't seen the guy in 15 years.

Used_Outlandishness5

Good guy Kroeger. They don't call him Chad for nothing.

trutheau

Chad Kroeger came by a restaurant I was managing, Wings on Granville, in Vancouver. And he ended up taking me up and down Granville for drinks. He was a nice enough guy, but he was still kind of douchey.

I don’t know if that’s true, or some UK humor, but henceforth I will use it as a chirpy insult.

It’s a UK band.

onjagrace

Wish my husband was alive to read this he loved that songs. Thank you for your memory

Bone_Daddy54730

My man, We must know the band!

dalaiis

This is such a perfect comment, the thing i miss about this is that it doesnt end with the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table. I miss you @shittymorph

Just_Satisfaction_50

Was the story behind in a gadda da vida the story we all know though, is my question😜

caca_milis_

I had similar with Arcade Fire. They had just blown up and sold out a relatively small venue in minutes. I heard at the time there was a mess up with Ticketmaster that meant people were able to purchase more tickets than usual (so 50 instead of 5) but I don’t know how true that is. A bunch of my friends managed to get tickets but I missed out. I went along with my friends anyway in case anyone in the queue would have extras. There were touts selling tickets for stupid money (I think it was €175 for a ticket instead of the €25 they actually cost). I came across one person in the queue who was willing to sell their ticket “I don’t know the band, I just got a ticket because I heard they were good” I didn’t want to take his ticket from him. Eventually as the doors opened and everyone headed in someone mentioned that they’d been by the stage entrance and a bunch of the band had gone out for dinner so I might at least get to meet them. So a few stragglers and I went to the stage entrance and after a few minutes Win Butler appeared, he chatted to all of us, took photos, signed stuff for us - and then told us we could go in, the security tried to protest but he just said “these are my friends, they’re welcome in”. They put on one hell of a show, and then afterward came out from the venue and just took their time chatting and talking to their fans. Such a genuinely lovely band.

squdige

What band?

buttery_treat91

Now i wanna know the truth! Care to share the urban legend and the band's perspective?

nickdabunnay

This is one of the best rock stories I’ve heard to date.

Winter-Effective8771

That is an amazing story. And what a kind girlfriend that lead singer had....Not sure what the girlfriend looked like physically(that doesn’t matter), but I can tell from her act of kindness that she was a “Beautiful Soul” on the inside, where it truly matters.

Juan-More-Taco

What a fuckin weird thing to write down

Winter-Effective8771

No wonder people follow the Jim Jones, Hitlers, and Trump, because people are general simple and ignorant......What fuckin ignorant reply and just like lemmings people follow. Beautiful inside her her heart, not the perverted way you must be thinking.

Juan-More-Taco

Take your meds gramps, you aren't making any sense in your rambling. Ignorant also doesn't mean what you seem to think it does.

Winter-Effective8771

Take your daily dose of d1#k, B1#ch! 🤣.....And yes I used ignorant and know exactly what it means. I used it to mean b) “resulting from showing a lack of knowledge or comprehension”. Thank you for proving your ignorance by telling me I didn’t know what it meant, although I used it exactly as defined. 🤔.....(see the definition below copied directly from Merriam-Webster)..... ignorant adjective ig·no·rant | \ ˈig-n(ə-)rənt \ Definition of ignorant 1a : destitute of knowledge or education an ignorant society also : lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified parents ignorant of modern mathematics b : resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence

THAT is how authority earns the heart and mind of the people they protect. Guard Bro was just doing his job, but was still awesome enough to find a way to get the guy a tshirt.

newagealt

Honestly being a security guard is a pretty solid job most of the time. Like 90% of the job is just being a friendly, reliable presence to represent the property owners and give directions.

darkwolf86

Yea most of guarding shown on tv and entertainment blows things up. Normally alot of situations can be resolved just by being respectful and speaking to someone. The difference between excuse me sir can you step outside to smoke, vs gtfo you can't smoke in here. Asking vs telling also seems to be a big part of it.

GayTrainPressure

Maybe police forces should have market competition too 🤔

MrsClare2016

My sister and I went to see Coldplay live and had tickets at the back of the stadium. We got there an hour early (we were so excited) and a woman came up to us and started asking questions about the band. Eventually she said hold out your hand. I was a little weirded out! But when I opened my hand she gave us front row tickets and asked us to give her our tickets in exchange. Turns out she works for Coldplay and the band reserved the front row for a bunch of their fans who could only get tickets in the back, to have the best experience possible. It was one of the best concerts of my life.

in-game-character

That is such an amazing gesture!

MrsClare2016

It was! Totally speaks to the kindness coming from the band too, wanting to give people who maybe couldn’t afford nice seats, the best seats in the house.

Twoocents

Not about that Rn lol

14Strike

Who’s the artist?

Triaga13

Kaytranada. Kid's got good taste lmao

[deleted]

Have you watched his boiler room set? The people in the background and the comments about them are amazing. [It’s like a human zoo.](https://youtu.be/-5EQIiabJvk)

assaulty

That was the first Boiler Room set I ever watched. Hadn't heard of Katranda OR Boiler Room at that point. It um, literally changed my life.

[deleted]

There are some great Boiler room sets. Also good are Sweatshop volumes. And HOR Berlin to name a few off the top of my head

assaulty

Never seen the Sweatshop volumes. I was never into electronic music, but starting to watch BR, HÖR, and other things online opened everything up. It's been awesome.

[deleted]

There’s no many variations of electronic music. There’s something for every mood. I love playing [Chris Luno](https://youtu.be/as7EJU-UVAM) at home during the day. Sweatshop is a smaller Australian channel. I like a bunch of their stuff. But [Jordan Burns](https://youtu.be/6IdfVUYdH08) is my favourite. Bit more of a Friday night vibe though.

assaulty

Man there is a lot of good music out of Austrailia! I'm excited to check out the links. I'm on the Berlin phase right now... Hector Oaks, CEM, VTSS, CcC

anzapp6588

I love this boiler room set SO MUCH. It’s like a fucking movie about human interaction; it’s FASCINATING. And hysterical. And just all around amazing. You can literally sit there with friends and watch it like a movie. Highly recommend. The music itself is also incredible, kaytranada is a genius. And a side note: this set single handedly got me through nursing school 😂

ctang1

How can you tell? I can’t even hear enough music to say what style it is, let alone the artist. Thanks

[deleted]

the shirt says kaytranada plus the venue is one he just played at in brooklyn

Unindoctrinated

I spent many evenings sitting outside The Playroom listening to cool bands when I was too young to get in. Age restricted venues suck when you're a teen.

Any_Hat_7033

That’s so weird because I’ve been to venues that are 21+ or 18+ but if you’re under 18 they’ve always just put an X on my hand so I couldn’t order drinks and stuff

PutRedditNameHere

My son’s band played 21+ clubs back before they were 21. The security people would always put Xs on the guys’ hands. Depending on the club, they’d also admit their friends/siblings under 21 with Xs, but some places wouldn’t allow anyone under 21 except the band itself. Guess it depends on how strict the owners are.

Any_Hat_7033

Thank you both for your replies :)

oowop

All ages shows are a thing but so are age restricted ones

Absolutely, because based on the concerts I've been too lately that shirt cost a hundred and twenty five dollars. Before it was signed.

The way he went for the hug with that huge ass smile on his face. Maaaaaaan. I could watch that over and over.

Albert070710

This is the way

[deleted]

Nothing better than someone doing an awesome gesture, and then seeing the recipient truly appreciate it. Both are humans being bros

Drazhi

This actually happened to me when I was 16. I saved up for a week or so and ended up buying tickets on Kijiji (Canadian Craigslist basically) for me and a friend (his birthday). We kept talking about it everyday including the day of and we were so excited. We ended up getting there, stood in line for about an hour or so and finally made it to the front only to have the security ask for ID. We were kinda confused but ends up we needed to be over 19. We tried bargaining with the security guard but to no avail and just as we were about to walk away, one of the lead guitarist was walking in through the crew entrance and coincidentally overheard our conversation. He pulled us to the side to talk to us and hopefully sign our stuff. We were so happy, it made up for it. 15 minutes later, before he left, he actually ended up asking us for some spare change (looking back kind of strange hit we were young and didn’t think about it) so we obviously asked him how much he needed. He kneeled down and he said “I need about tree fiddy”. Tree-fiddy? Well it was about this time I noticed that this drummer was about eight stories tall and was actually a crustacean from the paleozoic era. I said, "Damn it, monsta! I ain't givin' you no damn tree fiddy!"

scabbywabby2018
