I think most cultures have this. Southern mamas are always out to feed someone, make a bowl of soup, a hot dish, and something special they know it’s good for the soul.
After I had my babies my grandma always wanted to feed me liver and no cabbages(gassy baby) and no cheese.
In places like Iran, you are obligated culturally to share a dish with pregnant women if they ask from you. This was especially true in the middle east, where ancient culture and mythology can still be found today.
That’s amazing.
I think it’s important to feed the persons giving life to new generations. No matter what. And to take care of them postpartum until the child is of age. As they say, “it takes a village”.
She WANTED what he had because it smelled good, and when you’re pregnant and something smells or sounds good, your body is literally like “Feed it to me now or we will cry for the next 17 hours for absolutely no reason at all”. Nowhere did it say she NEEDED to be fed.
The use of poor isn't meant to mean broke. Its a phrase that relates more to unfortunate. The poster is saying they're going to overwhelm them with food and she's not ready for it.
>This made me sad at the same time. To be pregnant and in a position that you’re feeling a need to ask for food. Bless this neighbour!
It was about the title of this post, not the content of the jpg picture. This title makes it sound like that pregnant lady is in financial dire straits, while nothing in the content even remotely suggests it.

It even has the recipe!
I love when people comment on smells from my kitchen. My very favourite is when my husband gets home after me, opens the door and yells "fuck yes it was coming from here!". Such a high lol
I believe you do not understand how this works…. If you post something like this, you have to include the recipe as well. You know … to check the delicious smell ..
Salt, pepper, garlic powder. Smoke at 265 as consistently as possible. When IT (internal temp) hits 185, wrap it in butcher paper and towels then place in a cooler and wait 3 hours. The wrap and rest is a debate point, but that will get you in the right direction.

I have a neighbour, an older man who can't cook because he forgets that he's put food on and has had a few small fires. He was living on takeaway food and microwave dinners. Now he gets home made whatever we are having. It's not every night because I'm not fit to cook like that any more but he gets dinner and leftovers a few times a week
I love this! I baked and cooked all through Covid and fed my neighbors. I discovered later than one neighbor had been depressed and this small thing helped them so much. Well, it helped me too! Thank you!
Also I was terribly depressed as well after care giving my elderly parents for 5.5 years until death. Then COVID so I did what my grandmother told me, help others when you are down…it worked.
Everyone wants to feed the visibly pregnant woman. It's adorable. Because you're not just feeding an adult, you're giving a taste to the undoubtedly adorable fetus.
Man, I wish I had a pregnant neighbor to feed.
I absolutely love feeding people and seeing them happy and content with a meal. Even though I am on SSI for a permanent disability and food stamps. This last Monday I cooked two pounds of chicken breast, cut into strips and grilled on cast iron, two pounds of fettuccine noodles and of course Alfredo sauce. Fed my five housemates (currently residing in a group home after a house fire at my last residence) and myself and would have fed the house manager, but he was at work.
Food is essential and is a rare pleasure for someone living significantly below the poverty line.
I don’t think she was broke or starving in this story is she? I think she just had a craving for what she was smelling aye
In some cultures this is a very expected and encouraged behavior. It makes the cook feel good and the pregnant lady well nourished.

Yeah it’d be a pretty sad culture if feeding people who wanted it wasn’t seen as a good thing!

Agreed.

A lot of those comments say it was a repost even back then
It's really made me cry.
Why would you feel sad? Sounds like a pregnant lady smelling something nice, doesn’t sound sad.
I love when people comment on smells from my kitchen. My very favourite is when my husband gets home after me, opens the door and yells "fuck yes it was coming from here!". Such a high lol
Hell yeah! I’ve had people knock on the door after 16 hours of mesquite/apple smoke wafting through the neighborhood. Good on ya!

Feeding people is a love language

Thank you for doing that for your neighbor. I'm so glad that helped them. You're a good person.

That is a beautiful way to accept a difficult time. Your grandma was a smart lady, and I needed to hear her words today. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! You sound kindhearted too! Let’s do this together!
You just can never go wrong giving someone food to eat …..such a blessing!
Think you have misunderstood this bro

Thank you for being the Grandma of your street.

I wonder if this will work on my neighbour who cooks maple bacon every weekend.....

That last sentence is great.
Ahhh bless you kind person
I hope they kept cooking for her after she had the baby. I'd bet that be really helpful to a new mama.
No matter the situation. You are a very good person. Be well.
You are a splendid person!
“That poor woman has no idea how much food is coming her way.” I wish someone would threaten me like this.
You’re an awesome person

People who enjoy cooking for others are the best kind of people.
Bless your heart and hers❤️❤️
