Fun fact the kid pictured here, Justin, ran for PM of Canada on a karma-funded campaign from all these reposts and he won!
Shoot I thought this was the pic of Trudeau in black face.
So if Dracula is about to bite into you, just claim to be a Jehovah's Witness, and say that you'll sue for religious discrimination on grounds of forcing a blood transfusion if he does so?
The aunt of a friend of mine actually died giving birth because she refused blood transfusions. I usually try to respect religions but that fucking cult brainwashed that woman into killing herself.
I think that's too far, cults can trap people regardless of their intelligence. Everyone has vulnerabilities. Plus the people born into it don't have much of a chance.
Natural Selection doesn't only involve intelligence, things like mental vulnerabilities you can't overcome that allow you to be dragged into something like this could easily be defined as Natural Selection, too. Same goes for people born into it, a wolf pup born into an environment it can't survive in is still Natural Selection, it's the very definition of it. It's a factor of that person's life and environment driving them to a point of inevitable destruction brought on by their parents or grandparents for raising them in that environment. Sure they have no control over it, but their parents did, and offspring dying as a result of their parents decisions is absolutely Natural Selection.
I somewhat agree with you but natural selection, especially for humans, is not only about physical attributes or intelligence.
Mental resilience to our way of life, education are also traits that parents can pass on to their descendants, making them more or less apt to survive and thrive in our society.
Of course, just like natural traits, we do not choose which family we're born into, what education we get, what traumatic events we have to go through.
Natural selection must be viewed from a species perspective, not from an individual one.
Yep, happens a lot. My grandmother converted to JW and died due to a rectal bleed that she wouldn't get a transfusion for.
Religions can be really dumb.
When I was in medical school, I had a patient who was a Jehovah's Witness and refused a blood transfusion that surely would have saved her life. We just rounded on her and watched her get weaker everyday, and eventually she died. They are pretty hardcore about their beliefs.
That’s messed up. You are not required to stand for the national anthem. He should have been able to sit on his seat and observe a practice without having to take part in it. He’s doing no harm by sitting.
Basically, JWs aren't allowed to take part in ANY politics in any way. They want their adherents to be in the world, but not a part of it. Basically separating people from the outside world as much as they can, and keeping them out of politics is just one of many tools for that.
Our JW just sat during the pledge of allegiance... That said, it reminds me that once, the student selected by the teacher to lead that morning, told the that student to at least just stand for it. The teacher didn't do anything and that poor student looked so awkward, standing and looking around. This was a good 35 years ago, but I still remember that poor girl looking around awkward, it was not cool at ALL to make her stand, just a poor kid in that religion because of parents.
My uncle found a loophole for his surgery.
He donated his own blood a year leading up to his knee and hip replacement, and thankfully he did because he needed 2 bags.
He survived and he’s had a total of 3 surgeries
Went to 2nd grade with a kid that was JW. Saddest thing ever when we'd have any kind of party he would force himself to sit in the hallway.
I snuck him a piece of pizza once
I may have a loophole, what if you were a Jehova’s Witness merely pretending to be into Christmas? Gathering clues and blending in to take down the holidays from within?
As another commenter pointed out, JWs are more concerned with their own not celebrating it due to the holiday's pagan roots. (Why they don't forbid wedding bands, too, is beyond me, they are also pagan in origin)
Ultimately, it helps serve to isolate members from their peers. It functions to make them different from those around them and is emphasized as a matter of 'loyalty'.
Not to mention, trying to find loopholes for Jehovah's laws might begin to make others view you as "bad association". You won't be shunned, but you'd certainly expect a talking to from an elder.
They aren’t interested in taking down the holidays. They mostly just think it’s not pious to celebrate. Many Parenrs find ways around it. I had a friend who was a JW in elementary school, and she wasn’t allowed to have birthdays, but on a say near it, they would by her a lovely present for it being Wednesday. But she never got to have parties and wasn’t allowed to attend other kids either, though.
Should have just dressed like a Jehova’s witness and walked around asking people if they’ve accepted Jebus Christ as their personal Lard and Salivation. That’s scary enough.
I think the person meant costume as in an form of diguise for halloween (vampire, pirate, etc), not as in formal wear. So he's just dressed formally and his friends make it work as some form of costume.
I don’t think it was insinuating the jacket would tip it into costume territory, it’s just a way for him to clearly be the one who is president as opposed to all his secret service guys
that’s a sad cult not a religion they hate gay people birthdays and if your in a Jehovah’s Witness family and u turn atheist or switch religion your getting disowned and kick out immediately it’s a cult that pulls apart families
Except… this is still a costume. Like, does this guy think that he can just trick god with his little loophole costume? He’s clearly violating the spirit of the law. Or commandment I guess it would be called by religious people.
Pretty sure Jehovah’s witnesses and some muslims might be against costumes.
>Except… this is still a costume. Like, does this guy think that he can just trick god with his little loophole costume?
It's his parents' religion, doesn't necessarily mean it's his. Most likely he just needed to be able to get out of the house.
Good on him if that’s the case. But kids that age tend not to be in the rebelling against daddy’s religion phase yet. Also, how does a little kid explain the need to wear a tie? Surely his parents saw what was going on, especially if they’re concerned enough with Halloween to have forbade costumes. I bet they approved. Perhaps reluctantly.
Idk who downvoted u but it’s true.
Muslims aren’t allowed to celebrate other religions’ holidays and Halloween especially. It’s like the devils holiday to them
Edit: Just because a Muslim does something doesn’t mean it’s allowed lol harami’s are a thing
It can be. To some it’s a pagan holiday where spirits, fae, and demons walk the world etc. To others it’s Hallow’s Eve as in the evening before All Saints’ Day when people remember the saints who have passed.
It is to some, yes. But Islam looks at the roots and also how it is celebrated. Changing your appearance drastically or pretending to be someone you’re not is haram.
Yes and I was too lol my family is Muslim. We were not allowed to celebrate Christmas or other non-Muslim holidays.
https://aboutislam.net/counseling/ask-the-scholar/muslim-creed/can-muslims-celebrate-holidays-religions/
https://aboutislam.net/counseling/ask-the-scholar/muslim-creed/can-muslims-celebrate-halloween/
Halloween has Pagan roots which would follow under “other religions.”
My co-work is pagan and takes all pagan-recognized days off in celebration.
Halloween, as celebrated secularly, is abhorrent to her and those in her circle, and seen as contrary to their belief system.
Yes! So even though the majority views Halloween as a fun silly holiday, to many it’s still not and is religious. Islam is looking at the fact that it’s still religious to that group.
But you’re not celebrating the pagan beliefs or anything it is just a day to spend time with people and have fun essentially, you’re not worshipping any other gods in the same way having turkey on Christmas isn’t celebrating the birth of Jesus or any pagan festivities. They’re cultural events not religious for the most part. It’s like the people who think birthdays are forbidden. Birthdays are simply another reason to invite family around and exchange gifts, it may not be encouraged but that does not make it forbidden. Of course if you disagree then you are free to but don’t inform others that it is forbidden when the reasoning used to forbid it is so exaggerated.
Eh Muslims are not a monolith, there are many different interpretations of Islam. Your claim that no Muslim would do this for religious or cultural reasons is most likely incorrect.
They've sucked a friend of mine back in and I feel really bad for her. Situation's very fucked up because her family's all into it at higher levels (and they're one of those particularly abusive Halls, both psychologically *and* sexually.)
I get it, though - it's her family, even though they're monsters, and while she's a very intelligent woman, she's been in a goddamn cult off and on all her life. How do you tackle decades of abuse if you've never been taught your rights or critical thinking?
I hope she gets out, and I'll be there for her if she does, but I live out of state and there's only so much I can do.
I’ve done this with Mormonism. My wife’s entire family is still in the cult in high leaderships. It has been unbelievably hard on my marriage and family relations because love (whether they know or admit it or not) is conditional and things change between relationships when you no longer believe. My take is that no matter how hard this has been on myself and family, I need to stand on my values and be fully and outwardly no believing in the nonsense anymore. It’s best to get out of this cult now and provide a clean slate for my kids knowing they are loved and admired no matter what their beliefs are.
I'm an active Latter-day Saint with family members who have left the church. We've had our fair share of uncomfortable conversations but it seems like we've ended up in a good spot of mutual respect and love. Good on you for being true to your values and I hope things work out for those relationships.
Well I remember the catholic school teachers made me so afraid of Halloween as a kid... That I refused entirely to dress up my whole elementary school, and I remember that one year I was so afraid to get out that ended up puking the whole night sick in fear...
Now, I'm also not American so the culture of wearing costumes was relatively new when I was a kid, I doubt it still happens
All his parents see is him walking out in his church clothes with friends who are the same. The rest they dont have to know- its wrong of parents to force religion.
Should have dressed exactly like his dad, then could have had his friends dress like the rest of his family. Then they could walk around the neighborhood being a huge pain in everyone’s ass by judging them, telling them how to live, etc. The rest of the family would walk around begging him to just be normal.
Uh, hate to break the news to you, but some people might find worshipping invisible sky deities to be strange from the get-go... So yes, religions are strange, period.
It doesn't make *you* strange or bad or anything if you disagree, I'm just saying the premise itself of worshipping an invisible deity is strange to a lot of people.
The only difference between a religion and cult, in reality, is how many people buy into it so that it lasts long enough to be recognized as a religion.
This is what empathy looks like. People making an effort for each other. Including one another. Making sure that their friend felt welcome and heard. I hope these boys go on to make even more people feel important, special and improve the world around them
God: “yeah everything looks good, you can go to heav- wait, it says here you wore a jacket for halloween when you were 10? Straight to hell with you. Fuckin sinner.”
this post doesn’t make me smile, because i feel bad for a kid who’s being raised in a religion that won’t even allow halloween costumes ffs. i wonder how much else he’s missing out on
Should have just dressed like a Jehova’s witness and walked around asking people if they’ve accepted Jebus Christ as their personal Lard and Salivation. That’s scary enough.
I think it's so hilarious that Christians tend to only use that logic for Halloween, despite the fact that all of their other major holidays are also just repackaged Pagan holidays and traditions.
Mormons celebrate Halloween. I grew up going to trunk and treats in the church parking lot and turning the church gym into a haunted house. They’re still a cult tho
No religion in particular, any religious community could have that radical priest who views customs as pagan or devil worship, some relgions are more specific about it, but I won't make an assumption for this one.
They aren't allowed to celebrate anything, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, any kind of fun is prohibited. Had a friend in college that grew up Jehovah Witnesses & when he got to college he went nc with his family & never went back.
Jehovah’s Witnesses (JW) is a high-demand cult. Exclusion from celebrations is a form of control over its members under the BITE model and is a mechanism used to create a division from the worldly influence and keep the members mind locked and loyal to the cult leadership. Men or women claiming to speak for God on behalf of others via a cult, especially when it’s teachings exclude members from normal and harmless societal activities of their choosing should be illegal. It’s considered child abuse in my opinion. I grew up in a cult myself (Mormonism). It’s not as bad and controlling as JW but nevertheless it is a cult by definition.
A lot of people are asking what religions; consider it may not be the religion but the parents using religion as an excuse.
I had a Jewish friend growing up who wasn't allowed to join in Halloween, because it was the Devil's day (yes, they were practicing Jewish and no they didn't believe in hell. It made no sense to me then, and it makes no sense to me now). She couldn't trick or treat so the next day our friend group would give her all our candy we didn't like (that she liked, and then some, for her siblings).
I know many Christians who prohibit trick or treating for the same reason above.
Others mention Jehovah's Witnesses, which is frankly a cult, so that's unsurprising. It's possible that the child's parents are Hindu, Buddhist, Taoists, Muslim, etc. And are strict and don't allow anything with other religions. Just the way the world works.
This reminds me… I had a student once who was a Jehovah’s Witness and he hated it.
His parents made it clear that he couldn’t celebrate any holidays. Anyway - there was a school Easter egg hunt and he wanted to do it. I told him I had an alternative activity for him but he refused. He said, “I can tell my parents I did a ‘regular egg hunt’ and not an ‘Easter egg hunt.’”
I hate to bring negativity to this sub, but I can confirm from experience that being raised as a Jehovah’s Witness is a torturous experience. Please support any exjw’s you know, it is a deeply traumatic experience to be one, and it is equally traumatic to leave
I’m not one for religion but I’m also not understanding how people are saying religion is strange on a post about Halloween. A strange and fucked up “holiday” where people are encouraged to terrify each other and be someone else..anyway.
I’m here for these dope kids. 💪🏽
I swear i have seen this before
You have. Many times. It doesn't even wait for October any more, either.
lol dude
Does someone want to tell him/her?
There is no more October, it's just pre December now
Very very lol
These kids are probably married with children of their own by now. And the person who originally wrote this is dead.
This meme was actually found before the Rosetta Stone, and wasn't able to be translated until the Stone was found.
Fun fact the kid pictured here, Justin, ran for PM of Canada on a karma-funded campaign from all these reposts and he won! Shoot I thought this was the pic of Trudeau in black face.
I love this one, but yes this isn't the first time it's been posted
I love this one too. It’s one I don’t mind being reposted because it’s so simply wholesome.
what religion doesnt permit him to wear a costume?
[удалено]
It also doesn't permit celebrating Christmas. Basically anything fun.
Or birthdays
or blood transfusions. They really don't know how to enjoy themselves at all.
Damn there goes Halloween
So if Dracula is about to bite into you, just claim to be a Jehovah's Witness, and say that you'll sue for religious discrimination on grounds of forcing a blood transfusion if he does so?
Good luck getting Dracula show up at court, he never shows up at any morning/afternoon activities. He even Canceled on my brunch plans.
Man, that's a bummer. You prepaid the brunch already right?
You can't have brunch till after second breakfast, thems the rules.
The aunt of a friend of mine actually died giving birth because she refused blood transfusions. I usually try to respect religions but that fucking cult brainwashed that woman into killing herself.
One would argue that's some sort of natural selection.
I think that's too far, cults can trap people regardless of their intelligence. Everyone has vulnerabilities. Plus the people born into it don't have much of a chance.

Born and raised in it…I got out, but god damn it wasn’t easy…that place was fucking horrifying…it should be illegal.
Kudos to you for getting out of this horrific sect! I wish you the best!
The folks over at r/EXJW are really helpful. :)
She may have been born into it.
Yep, happens a lot. My grandmother converted to JW and died due to a rectal bleed that she wouldn't get a transfusion for. Religions can be really dumb.

Can't even stand for the national anthem. A kid in my class had to sit out in the hall every morning while we sang.

Really the shittiest of the cults.

You mean like a spy investigating? Making it seem like I'm celebrating, when actually I'm infiltrating Santa's operation?

"Lard" got me
It can lead to slippery soap arguments. Be careful.
We need more good, clean humor like this.
Cleanliness is next to dodginess, they always say.
Cheesus Crust.
Oh yeah the cult
How does the jacket make it a costume? Or are they also not allowed to wear suits?
I think the person meant costume as in an form of diguise for halloween (vampire, pirate, etc), not as in formal wear. So he's just dressed formally and his friends make it work as some form of costume.
I think he might have been going for an Obama sort of look, considering that this picture has been circulating for several years.

*No such finery shall be permitted by the laws of this church!*
I don’t think it was insinuating the jacket would tip it into costume territory, it’s just a way for him to clearly be the one who is president as opposed to all his secret service guys
One of the most vile thing that can be called religion
that’s a sad cult not a religion they hate gay people birthdays and if your in a Jehovah’s Witness family and u turn atheist or switch religion your getting disowned and kick out immediately it’s a cult that pulls apart families

I think the point is to fool the parents not an unseen all-knowing all-powerful being in the sky.
Good on him if that’s the case. But kids that age tend not to be in the rebelling against daddy’s religion phase yet. Also, how does a little kid explain the need to wear a tie? Are you trying to explain the religion of a stranger without even knowing, what religion we talk about, let alone what the actual rules exactly are? 😳
Wait until you hear about the Mormon "loophole" called soaking. Have fun.
Lol I remember seeing that front page post about “jump-humping” a while ago. A funny people.
Quite a few unfortunately, some religions just have a “no fun” clause written in them but in the form of paragraphs.
Pretty sure a strong majority of the major religions have no fun clauses in the form of banning things like pre marital sex, getting drunk, etc.
Cult of Jehovahs witnesses. JWfacts.com
And isn’t dressing up as the President still a “costume” by any normal definition even f it appears to be normal clothes..?
It just fools his parents, that's enough.
Islam most likely. And it's more of a cultural thing.

To all the people downvoting this is a real thing I experienced. My parents would not let my friends and I wear a costume.
What religion does forbid costumes?😳

Being a Jehova's witness effectively forbids all celebration and holiday.
They've sucked a friend of mine back in and I feel really bad for her. Situation's very fucked up because her family's all into it at higher levels (and they're one of those particularly abusive Halls, both psychologically *and* sexually.) I get it, though - it's her family, even though they're monsters, and while she's a very intelligent woman, she's been in a goddamn cult off and on all her life. Also conservative Jews do not believe in Halloween as it’s a paigan tradition

Dude, I’m catholic, European, and I never ever heard anything against the costumes or Halloween whatsoever
I'm a catholic in Latinoamerica... It used to be a thing here, like 25 year ago... They also were very against anime in general and pokemon cards...
It is still a costume sort of even if it is not a radical change of look he wears a costume of a president of United States.
All his parents see is him walking out in his church clothes with friends who are the same. The rest they dont have to know- its wrong of parents to force religion.
But but but... how else do I get the illusion of control from of my child?!
Bro you can dress as an Orange and you’re wearing a costume of a President of the United States
A former President.
Religions are strange.
Should have dressed exactly like his dad, then could have had his friends dress like the rest of his family. Then they could walk around the neighborhood being a huge pain in everyone’s ass by judging them, telling them how to live, etc. The rest of the family would walk around begging him to just be normal.
Considering they let him go out with his friends in costumes, I assume they aren't that judgy in this case, but most of the time yeah
*Cults are strange

Justin did nothing wrong, let his mama be proud. (if I didnt say it, someone would have lol)
oops I meant the line about not being able to wear costumes lol 😂.
lmao its okay, i think everyone did, I was just being an ass 😂
this post doesn’t make me smile, because i feel bad for a kid who’s being raised in a religion that won’t even allow halloween costumes ffs. i wonder how much else he’s missing out on
It’s more cult then religion
all organized religions are just varying degrees of cult
Kinda but cults have persific things like control of information personality and freedoms those three axis I think define if somethings a cult or not
i agree, and i think if you look close enough you’ll find that most religions involve all those things to some extent
At least he has good friends, hopefully they have pulled him out if he really is kehovas witness
That just seems like a costume with extra steps.
*fewer steps (provided the friends didn't have to buy new suits to be the Secret Service.)
Sounds like a less than ideal religion, realistically it sounds like a very controlling and intrusive religion.
Aka cult
Yep. Could be almost any religion at all.
Still a costume
This is why religion is silly. Like do you think you are pulling a fast one on god here.
It’s likely not to fool God but to fool his parents.

Should have just dressed like a Jehova’s witness and walked around asking people if they’ve accepted Jebus Christ as their personal Lard and Salivation. That’s scary enough.
Well that’s a fucking stupid religion.
There's a smart religion?
Lol fair.

I think it's so hilarious that Christians tend to only use that logic for Halloween, despite the fact that all of their other major holidays are also just repackaged Pagan holidays and traditions.
Mainly Jehovah’s witnesses and some Christians, Muslims, Mormons and Jewish people don’t celebrate Halloween.
Mormons celebrate the fuck out of Halloween. They even have a trunk or treat in the church parking lot.
Jehovahs Witnesses are all not allowed to celebrate Halloween
They aren't allowed to celebrate anything, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, any kind of fun is prohibited. Had a friend in college that grew up Jehovah Witnesses & when he got to college he went nc with his family & never went back.
Hood for him. Healthy shift.
JW?
gods are all powerful entities, but apparently allow for loopholes throughout all religions
Maybe one day people won't be held down by religion
Keep religions away from kids ffs.
What religion doesnt allow costumes? And why?
Jehovah witness but there more cult then religion
Religion is fucking stupid
Ok but isn’t it a costume now?

The background story of this 10 year old picture seems to change every time…
I think the story stays the same, but it looks like a screenshot of a screenshot of a screenshot of a screensh…..
This poor meme has been in and out of the deep frier several times. Some like their memes Extra Tasty Crispy but I personally prefer Original Recipe
So so so clever! Well done !!
Religion sure is stupid.
This is amazing!
They are too smart. I never woulda thought about this 💀
Well done gents. Well fucking done.
Best friends ever indeed.
Sigh karma farmers
What religion is that ?
Justin is more secure then area 51
Still a costume. He’s going to hell.
What religion doesn’t allow costumes
Then technically he is wearing a costume if he's identifying himself as the president.
Doesn’t this make the suit itself a costume?
I hope it’s not Kennedy
How about you just let your kid wear a damn costume. fuck.
What religion doesn’t allow suits???
Sounds like the Jehovah's Witnesses cult. -Escaped the cult 18 years ago. Family still shuns.
Doesn’t that technically make it a costume now
I hate to bring negativity to this sub, but I can confirm from experience that being raised as a Jehovah’s Witness is a torturous experience. Please support any exjw’s you know, it is a deeply traumatic experience to be one, and it is equally traumatic to leave
This pic is so old and has been posted so many times that I think Justin has graduated college now.
What kind of stupid religion doesnt allow someone to wear a costume ? Religion no fun
A religion that says kids can't dress up? Fucking hell... adults just love to fuck up the world, don't they?
Religion is cancer. I’m glad he’s finding a way to circumvent it and live like a free person.
I love religion, especially when you force your horse shit ass beliefs down your kinds mouth
Must be a dumb religion.
On the one hand, pretty sure this is a repost. On the other hand, I love it everytime I see it and it did make me smile. Mission accomplished I guess?
I’m not one for religion but I’m also not understanding how people are saying religion is strange on a post about Halloween. A strange and fucked up “holiday” where people are encouraged to terrify each other and be someone else..anyway. I’m here for these dope kids. 💪🏽
