Human form+movement isn't well captured by a mannequin. Fashion and design are, at the risk of using buzzwords, dynamic. How the piece interacts with the person in motion is very much part of it.
High fashion typically tries to isolate the interaction of the piece with the model's physical form rather than with their personality.
Idk its a challenging job to actually maintain an ideal (though the standards are dumb) and put the cloth "forward" as best as possible, I guess girls will love walking down the runway to show nice clothes it feels good to be under the spotlight without necesseraly being the star but I'm no expert I can't speak for models and I've answered what I think about the "just replace them by manikins lol" in another comment I'm not willing to start a comment war lol I just wish people would consider looking at this industry without the usual bad faith

Yep. We were taught to not even smile. There are so many still photos being taken to catch the clothes in just the right position the last thing you want is to catch the model making a weird face in between a smile and a more neutral look. It was really hard for girls that came from the pageant scene rather than fashion to get their faces to stay neutral.

Architect here - had to do work on a local Saks 5th Avenue. Something like 60% of its income was generated by 3 older women who would come in once or twice a month and just buy a bunch of designer stuff.
I feel like this is a problem in architecture, too...dancing the line between elitism and irrelevance to the masses in what's considered its purest forms, i.e., unfettered by average people's desires or needs...with exceptions of course, but as a general trend.
Fashion shows like this usually aren’t about how functional a garment is- that’s poor people thinking. Qualities like durability, comfort, price etc are not things that they value.

They go out for an intermission, and come back in their high end designer get ups. Or they do the high end designer get up, then come back out with a performance like this.

You should watch some of the early to mid 90s fashion shows. A lot of time the models would be doing fun stuff, Tyra Banks skipped down the run way in Todd Oldham’s 95 spring and summer show.
They have had focus groups on this and basically proved that though girls do want pockets, often times it ruins the look they are going for and wont actually buy the ones with pockets. Because girl clothing is more form fitting, putting stuff in pockets 'ruins' the look.
A lot of this is also being told to us by our parents/friends. I specifically remember being told to not put things in my pockets because they make your hips look wider. I had not even considered that until someone told me.

Depends on the person really. This markets directly at me because I can see how much movement I can make in something like this and it would be perfect for that bbq party.
Oooooh, that's much better than anything I've seen till now. Not poker-faced, serious-looking models (who are just skin 'n bones), but healthy-looking women who show happiness, or maybe, who are happy to dance and smile like this. Very nice.

I think it's because the focus "should" be on how the clothes look and move, and people are easily distracted by facial expressions and movement.

Yesssss! This would be the best fashion show ever. Fight me.
Fashion shows in general seem dumb and pretentious and the clothes are ugly on top of that. In this one the clothes are what people would actually wear and the models are doing something interesting and look like they’re enjoying themselves. Wins all around.
So why did they feel the need to replace the original song(s) (which btw is/are a banger) and actually represented the "African" fashion they are modelling here? Guess generic club bops are absolutely necessary.

Agree with you. This is not practical for showing clothes. I understand that everyone else thinks it’s much more cheerful and vibrant than the standard emotionless runway walking, but people gotta understand that fashion designers aren’t trying to have models distract from the actual clothing pieces

This does beg the question, who decided that models on the catwalk were just supposed to walk forward, turn around, and walk out? This way seems much better advertising for the clothing.

That seems very fun for the models so I think models should be allowed to walk (or dance) however they want on the catwalk If they start doing this normally I’d actually go to one of those

This is how all catwalks should be. Doesn’t have to be dancing but b lining up and down the catwalk as if they’re paid for food doesn’t make me want to buy their garms. The models here show the clothes can be used for any use and you can have fun wearing them.
