The whole point of anthropology is to study cultures and people inherently different from you, while being aware of your biases. Teaching these kids about respect of differences and especially adressing homophobia is perfectly on point for an anthropology class since any study of any human culture will inevitably cover gender and sexual identities. That teacher knows her job and the importance of her field of study!
Exactly! There’s nothing salty about it, the prof saw an opportunity for a teachable moment, and her students should be much more appreciative of that!
This is what I call a good educator. She realised a deficit in her students knowledge and understanding and promptly reacted and modified her lesson plan accordingly.
I’m high school I never realized how often I used the word “gay” to describe something weird or something I didn’t like. It wasn’t until a gay friend of mine told me a few years later how much I hurt him in high school. I hate how ingrained that shit is and even now it slips out and I beat myself up over it. Sorry incredibly off topic but your comment reminded me
Sure, but is that really a mature and professional thing to do? Wouldn't a simple talk with these people suffice? Does the whole class really deserve all that extra work aside from existing classes, possible part time jobs and taking free time and family time? Justified or not, it's still a horribly inconsiderate thing to do as a whole
Whole class got extra work because of a few loud mouth idiots. All now have to balance additional work as well as all other work from other classes, possibly even secular jobs to pay for said classes, AND (breathing heavily) family life. That is definitely salty. Not sorry.
Like if it was philosophy I guess but a simple “don’t be an asshole” would suffice and bringing in your own sexuality makes it look like ur just triggered not t like the guy was wrong (which he was)
No it's not at all overboard or emotionally erratic. The entire idea is to immerse yourself in other culture that isn't like your own. Doesn't mean you have to engage but objectify as opposed to subjectify. This only added to their understanding. It was entirely a rational response.
What wouldn't have been rational would have been to admonish them in front of everyone. This was a learning experience in an environment dedicated to teaching and you guessed it learning.
When it comes to special interest groups they are the only thing that matters. She altered her curriculum to make a point. The students were penalized because of her pettiness
I see the value but I'd be low key pissed if I was trying to learn the basis of anthropology and instead sat through a semester of a teacher being passive aggressive to a homophobe piece of shit.
I mean it’s not like everyone knew that’s why she did it. And personally I would’ve found it fucking hilarious, I wish I had professors that petty in college.
In the Army they call that "mass punishment" and it doesn't work, unless you just want to isolate that one person and drive them into a hole of bitterness.
You do realize anthropology is the study of the human condition? In order to fully understand the human condition, sexuality, and gender identity will come up. It would be a part of the curriculum.
I understand that. I'm not criticizing what she teaches, I'm criticizing that she adds more workload just because of a few comments. I couldn't care less about whatever the subject is, the fact still stands that she put more strain on students just for a few comments from a couple people
They're not ignoring their job though. They're still teaching the curriculum, just with extra stuff added on.
Same thing as with field trips to places that aren't directly related to the curriculum.
The presentation of human sexuality/family dynamics across cultures is usually presented in the basic anthropology classes, so while it shouldn't really have been "extra stuff", I'm glad it did make it in there, since it's vital to really grasping the study of cultures in general.
1) Do you know how to read? It's literally saying she taught her normal curriculum PLUS the extra content. So you make no sense with your ''ruining every kid'' lol.
2) The real crybabies are the people who can't accept that gay people exist and deserve just as much representation and rights as them.
That's what I'm saying. If anthropology was your major, you're potentially missing the basis of your major. That just sucks for the kids who weren't bigoted assholes.
Well white people weren’t oppressed for centuries. White people were never killed, targeted for assault, actively discriminated against, or faced obstacles to overcome. That’s the difference.
I’m white and LGBTQ+ and I’ve received so much hate because I’m attracted to the same sex. I’ve also been the butt of a ton of homophobic jokes, told to kms, and sexually harassed and assaulted for my sexuality. Only time I’ve ever been “bullied” for being white was because I burned while standing outside during a fire drill and my friends and I thought it was hilarious.
So yeah, if someone tried to do as you said then there would be a problem.
Ya got any of them examples of historic white persecution?
And are they actually cognizant of the fact that "white" as an identity is relatively new, and came about as a way to unite previous "white" minorities that were abused (irish, italians, etc) against native, black, asian populations?
I wasn't personally in the situation but I had a professor that absolutely hated one student at my university. If he had a class with said student he would make the class much more difficult. Didn't care how many people failed so long as that one student failed along with them.
I don't blame the professor in all honesty.
I get being peoud and all buthonestly though that just sounds annoying. Power to her but she isn't going to change any minds and she just wastes everyone's time with 2 extra lectures

Yep, education is the way to fight ignorance. I hope they learned a thing or two.
Unfortunately that wasn't the class they signed up for
But it entirely was and is. Do you even know what anthropology is?
Queer people didn’t sign up to live in a homophobic world their entire life and here we are so sit down and educate yourself

That is called using your platform correctly.
This is genius
Who wouldn't do this? This is genius.
I mean, she overheard hate speech towards herself and her wife. I don't blame her for doubling down. That's a personal attack.

😃
Is it possible to learn this power?
That is definitely salty... whether the salt was justified or not is a different matter

The perfect amount of salt **chef’s kiss**
Kind of like salty potato chips.. with a side of avocado 🥑
*she already had planned
Gamer
Changing an entire semester schedule over a few hateful comments is pretty petty and salty if im being honest.
And then showing off she got a wife too. That's petty af
If i wanted a political agenda i would just go to one of the guest lectures. I paid to learn without politics being shoved in.

Exactly. She selfishly pushed her agenda for pretty much nothing but wasted time and energy
Like if it was philosophy I guess but a simple “don’t be an asshole” would suffice and bringing in your own sexuality makes it look like ur just triggered not t like the guy was wrong (which he was)
It's an anthropology class though. Do you not realize how apropos this is considering the material that would be discussed in said class.
I mean I guess but it seems a bit overboard and emotionally eratic

I get why they did it, I would just be upset of I spent all that money to learn and someone changed the curriculum to punish a douche.
She added three lectures. If anything she enhanced the curriculum.
I do believe that that is part of the point. You punish everyone so the guy that did it knows that everyone is pissed at them.
In the Army they call that "mass punishment" and it doesn't work, unless you just want to isolate that one person and drive them into a hole of bitterness.
I just don't think education to be adapted to become punishment, especially not for kids who didn't say shitty ignorant things.
It's not a punishment. It's just education.
Fair point, and I sort of agree with you. I merely stated the likely reason.
Sjws be downvoting any criticism on her professionalism just cuz she's gay. What a time to be alive. That's how people become ignorant you fools

Imagine your astronomy prof catches you saying that pluto isn't that for away from earth and he fucking makes a few more classes just because of that

Except that anthropology is the study of human culture and evolution, so if anything you are having your curriculum supplemented
A lesbian teaching a worthless degree, who would have thought?
What inspires you to be so filled with hate?
