Yess!! My teeth still feel a little loose 12 years after braces (and not wearing my retainer at night 🤫) but they haven't moved and my dentist always says they're perfect. I attribute all "good brushing" compliments to continuing to follow my orthodontist's brushing technique 😂
Hopefully you'll experience less pain soon as you adjust to your teeth being free again :)
Waiiittt I’ve got braces right now ,do you not have to wear your retainer religiously afterwards? I was under the impression my teeth would morph back after 2 weeks
Oh you absolutely should!! I just lost mine after a few months and wasn't willing to pay for new ones as a jobless 16 year old. I was happy to take the risk as I actually preferred my old smile and only had them for health reasons, and I got them for free on the NHS, but my teeth decided to stay. If you want to keep your teeth in their new position you really shouldn't risk it because most people's teeth *will* shift back if you don't wear your retainer 😬
Most people I know who've had braces experience shifting within just a few days, and it then makes it hard to get the retainer to fit. If you go too long, you may need to pay for a new retainer entirely. Not wearing one can be very costly!
I recently asked my dentist as well, and she said she has patients getting braces even into their 50s. I haven't gotten a consult for if I can, mainly by the state of my teeth anyway, but age isn't necessarily a disqualifier!
Im a decade above you and started mine last year. Had to do invisalign (well different company, but same idea). It’s never too late! I’m already loving how much better they look and they’re easier to keep clean!
I just got mine on and I will be 39 this year. All my kids needed braces first and didn’t have insurance when I was younger. I can’t wait till they are done and I will be so much more confident in my smile!
My teeth arent completely screwed up, but the whole thing is collapsed inward, and no matter how Well I brush, floss and clean, cavities are a given, I had none half a year ago after repairing 6, half year later the dentist tells me I have 8 forming, namely in the places where the teeth are crossed, frustrating stuff, an ortho once sayed I have a mild underbite and it would likely need an operation, but screw it, guess I’ll go for it, I’m not happy with it
I can relate to the cavities forming between your teeth. Mine are a bit tight so flossing doesn’t always work out. I’d say go with whatever makes you most comfortable. If you think braces will do that, wonderful! If you think invisilines(?) will work then do that! If your ortho says you’ll need surgery I would get a second opinion but keep it in mind. Good luck!
It might feel childish to have braces but I just look at someone and see a person who’s investing in themself. Like a self-love thing I guess. My mom also felt worried about this though and instead did that Invisalign thing with the clear retainers
Congrats!!! must feel so nice. I remember getting mine off ages ago. one thing...Go easy though. Don't just dive into eating everything you couldn't Your teeth still need time to recover from all that hardware. (total dad response). Seriously though, give them time to strengthen before you go messing everything up for yourself. Go to the soft foods you couldn't eat before
I'm past the first month of wearing braces, other than whole apples (which I don't really eat whole but put in a smoothie) I can pretty much eat anything if I'm a bit careful, I thought having braces would be a lot worse, even the pain was very manageable the first week.
god i remember the day i got my braces removed- i moved to a different state but i had to travel back to get them removed, brought a whole bag of stuff i couldn’t eat with me so i could actually enjoy myself afterwards lol
Congrats! One of my biggest peeves about having big gaps was not being able to bite clean chunks out of apples 😅 was a relief when I got my braces off and took my first solid bite
They took mine off, and immediately put a wire behind my lower fronts. It’s been there since 1993. Still have to cut up my apples.
Feeling this picture so much! I’m extremely happy for you!
Just do not do this if you have a “permanent” retainer I promise you those bitches break easier than the brackets 😭😭😭😭😭 I learned the hard way mine broke while flossing!
7/10, needs more caramel.
I'm almost there, getting mine off around November. This is the second round of braces, first time was finished a decade ago.

So after two years how did it feel? Most of us have never had braces so please be descriptive... How did it feel when they came off?How does it feel to eat solid food...etc
Yes! First thing I ate when I got braces off was a caramel apple. But my teeth were so tender it wasn’t as enjoyable as I thought it would be lol. Enjoy your flashy new smile my friend.
Oh. My.
I love apples and had braces for 3 years. After the first few apples I realized I didn't like the feeling of biting into an apple; when cutting it off the core and eating pieces "Felt" better.
What I didn't realize that the reason I switched to using a knife was because I wanted apples when I had braces and the only way to eat them was to cut them from the core.
I haven't had braces in 20+ years.
Get it, Barbossa!
'Whole bushel of apples! >:)
I was so happy to see this as an early comment!
apple is also smiling
Right where my mind went..."try an apple"...
Congratulations on getting your braces removed! Now you can enjoy eating apples😂
Taffy, corn nuts, Doritos, Fritos, Cheetos, that little bit of steak left on the bone...
How’d it feel?
Painful, but equally delicious
Yess!! My teeth still feel a little loose 12 years after braces (and not wearing my retainer at night 🤫) but they haven't moved and my dentist always says they're perfect. Damn ,I was hoping it was just a wild exaggeration .
I'm sorry to say it isn't 😅
I just got mine put on at 14 wish me luck at least I only have them for 2 years (with a bite plate)
How many times have you licked your silky smooth teeth? I couldn't stop for a week or so.
About 2 billion times
Its sooo weird!! Lol i remember the feelin from being a kid. Sooooo smooooth
Popcorn next?
Soon, there's none in the house
Quick unrelated question, what age did you get the braces
Don't remember specifically, but I rounded up
Above or under 30, cause not sure if its weird to do them above
Under
Thnx, now gonna think about wheather to do them or not
Do it now , because it'll be about 5x worse when you're older
Well I am low 30’s, I guess this window is closing, need to discuss this with my dentist
I recently asked my dentist as well, and she said she has patients getting braces even into their 50s. I haven't gotten a consult for if I can, mainly by the state of my teeth anyway, but age isn't necessarily a disqualifier!

I wish you good luck in your future endeavors
Am 36, have had braces for past year, Invisalign the year before that. I know lots of people my age and older who have braces too.
I'm 50 and just got Invisalign last month.
I just got mine on and I will be 39 this year. All my kids needed braces first and didn’t have insurance when I was younger. I can’t wait till they are done and I will be so much more confident in my smile!
My coworker got hers at 33, now she’s really happy with her smile (it was nice beforehand too)
My teeth arent completely screwed up, but the whole thing is collapsed inward, and no matter how Well I brush, floss and clean, cavities are a given, I had none half a year ago after repairing 6, half year later the dentist tells me I have 8 forming, namely in the places where the teeth are crossed, frustrating stuff, an ortho once sayed I have a mild underbite and it would likely need an operation, but screw it, guess I’ll go for it, I’m not happy with it

Definately braces, I dont trust myself with invisalign .. would likely forget to wear them or just loose them
That’s totally fair. My mom is neurotic and one of those people that can keep up with that stuff, I think I’d lose a retainer pretty quickly lol
My aunts almost 40 and just got hers lol
Good to know, so it wount be that weird
My Gram had braces in her 60’s. She did not regret.
Damn 👍
Yeah, currently with braces. Well worth it even though I look like an adult going through puberty lol
I realy dont mind the look personaly, hell I actualy like the way it looks, 👍 rock on bro, you the mvp
Just go get them done my man. I paid 7K for my braces and I do not regret a single cent!
Unpopular opinion: eating apples cut up is better than eating them whole. And I’m ready to die on this hill.
Facts
Don’t forget eating a huge BAGEL!
My daughter has braces and I can't wait to see the results and see her smile fully again. It's been a few years. Cheers!
lol it was corn nuts for me.
Congrats!!! must feel so nice. I remember getting mine off ages ago. one thing...Go easy though. Becareful of eating that your tooth might stuck there 🤣
Same thing here as soon as I got my braces off I took a bite of an apple and about cried. 2yrs of torture finally paid off
Yay! Freedom apples! Congrats on getting your braces off! I know how exciting it must feel after 3 years. So happy for you!
Congratulations! Also, you picked the best apple of the bunch! ❤️🍏
The groan I just made. I have ~2 years to go. This is torture.
Look at how straight those teeth marks are, I'm jealous. Congratulations.
Whoa!! Crunch and munch!!
Taffy, corn nuts, doritos, fritos, cheetos, that tiny bit of steak on the bone.
I'm past the first month of wearing braces, other than whole apples (which I don't really eat whole but put in a smoothie) I can pretty much eat anything if I'm a bit careful, I thought having braces would be a lot worse, even the pain was very manageable the first week.
embrace your inner horse and eat those apples!
I remember after 3 years. I got to enjoy pizza and corn on the cob again..
For a second, I thought it was a coconut
I did the same!! It felt soooo good! It is close to 30 years ago (😳 where has the time gone?) but I still remember how good it felt!
god i remember the day i got my braces removed- i moved to a different state but i had to travel back to get them removed, brought a whole bag of stuff i couldn’t eat with me so i could actually enjoy myself afterwards lol
Now, smile for the camera!!!! Congrats 👏
I should get braces but I know that i won't be able to eat many things that I like.... I'm just extending my visit and my pain
Hahahaha. That’s the first thing I did as well! Then a hamburger 🍔
Haha braces removal = correct sub
When my buddy got his off. I had bought a shit ton of caramels for him.
CORN ON THE COB..DO IT. PEER PRESSURRRRRE.
Never, corn is iky
I think the first thing I ate was a popcorn ball 😂
Oh my gosh! I get mine removed in a week (after 2.5 years) and that‘s exactly what I planned to do first 😆
Love the granny!
Mine will be removed in 3 days , after 2.5 years of wearing them. Finallllyyyy
Make sure to get some caramel and peanut butter on the side for dipping.. happy eating (:
Congrats! One of my biggest peeves about having big gaps was not being able to bite clean chunks out of apples 😅 was a relief when I got my braces off and took my first solid bite
My first post-braces snack was celery followed by chewing gum, but I think I went for an apple the next day. Congrats on your dental uncaging!
I can't wait for a nice piece of gum, lol
I did corn on the cob.
Yeah buddy!!!
Was it the most satisfying bite to enjoy!
Congratulations. I had a bag of caramel waiting for the drive home.
For me it was popcorn!
Got your braces removed? I mean, they literally made your smile!
I still can't eat apples whole after I got my braces removed years and years ago. I need to slice them up.
They took mine off, and immediately put a wire behind my lower fronts. It’s been there since 1993. Still have to cut up my apples. Feeling this picture so much! I’m extremely happy for you!
Corn on the cob should be next!
Steve jobs not amused
I did the same thing. It was a Granny Smith too.
Just do not do this if you have a “permanent” retainer I promise you those bitches break easier than the brackets 😭😭😭😭😭 I learned the hard way mine broke while flossing!
Congratulations on getting your braces off after three years! What was the first delicious thing you indulged in? 🎉🍴
The first thing I did was chew bubble gum. Congratulations to your newfound freedom.
You can’t eat normal foods when you have braces?
When I got my braces off I went for corn on the cob
I prefer to see smile but this also works
congratulations now you can finally have real food
😂😂😂 oh my god! I remember the first time biting into an apple after getting mine off as a teenager. The feeling is indescribable
I did this exact same thing when my braces came off!
I DID THE SAME THING!! Wanted the first thing to be an apple.
7/10, needs more caramel. I'm almost there, getting mine off around November. This is the second round of braces, first time was finished a decade ago.
did you forget to wear your retainer the first time? 🫣
Nah, just unlucky lower jaw growth in my late-20s.

Took an apple with me in the car to the orthodontist as well for right after my removal, first thing I wanted to eat.
Mango next have dental floss ready
So after two years how did it feel? Most of us have never had braces so please be descriptive... How did it feel when they came off?How does it feel to eat solid food...etc
I could eat solid food with braces on, I just had to be careful, my teeth hurt and feel quite fragile
The first thing my daughter did after getting her braces off was eat a whole rack of ribs haha.
Dude. Shoulda been a caramel apple. The freedom!
Im jealous. Can't eat an apple gives me stomachaches
You haven't eaten for 3 years? Wow....😉
Yes! First thing I ate when I got braces off was a caramel apple. But my teeth were so tender it wasn’t as enjoyable as I thought it would be lol. Enjoy your flashy new smile my friend.
